Jan '20 - Week 2 Low Carb Bootcamp - How did you do?

StuntNun · 20/01/2020 05:22

We've already seen some fab results, especially from those who started early. We do expect a big variation in the first weigh in. Some of you will have lost several pounds, some a more modest loss. Others won't have lost anything yet either because some healing is needed before weight loss begins in earnest, or because they didn't quite manage to stick to the rules during the first week.

So please check in with us to reflect on how your first week has gone. Try not to compare yourself to others because weight loss is a very individual thing. If you have any concerns about your progress then please do ask. We have had thousands of people through Bootcamp so make use of that collective experience.

Add your weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or tag the rather wonderful ShagMeRiggins with your weigh-in if you can't access the spreadsheet yourself. If you're only just starting then please tag the very lovely AthelstaneTheUnready to be added to the spreadsheet. And to anybody that suspected they couldn't lose weight while eating lots of lovely food, and without feeling hungry... I hope you enjoyed being proved wrong!

Riggins I'd been wondering where you were and hoping all ok. Bloody hell!Confused

To add to the swimming chat, I often get the pool to myself in the morning and so when there are no distractions I sometimes count lengths, so I know I currently do 40 lengths of the 18m pool in 30 mins as I said, VERY slow I much prefer to just get in and let my mind wander though.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 24/01/2020 18:45

Not me, Shag, must be some other helpful soul out there so thank you whoever Flowers

As for husbands, just put it in the bin. No-one needs that shit.

StuntNun · 24/01/2020 19:10

Top tip for counting lengths when swimming is to only count alternate lengths when you're at the far end of the pool, so 1, 3, 5 etc. No idea why it works but it does. Maybe something to do with having to remember what number you're on for two lengths instead of one.

My swimming pool is pretty much 5000 steps from home. So I walk there and back, meaning I've done my steps for the day. I reckon that means that I don't have to 'work' and I can potter up and down in the warm water, relax in the steam room, daydream in the jacuzzi...

Notwatchingtvtoday · 24/01/2020 20:38

ShagMeRiggins Oh no it was me , apologies StuntNun and laugh away

To the poster who keeps calling StuntNun Stungun, thank you. I laugh every time. (Unless you’re dyslexic in which case I don’t laugh at all blush.)

Rayna37 · 24/01/2020 20:48

Remembered my hard boiled eggs to eat at my desk after swimming which was nice, had with some celery salt and a bit of cheese.
Lunch was tuna mayo salad and then yogurt
Tonight's dinner has been great, possibly some sneaky carbs- half a stuffed pheasant breast joint with the last of the Christmas red cabbage, roasted broccoli and some kale.

Out tomorrow night which may present some challenges!

TheClitterati · 24/01/2020 21:14

@Rayna37 you've got me singing the Anne of Cleves song from SIX

"Bring me some pheasant, keep it on the bone"

Doilooklikeatourist · 24/01/2020 21:51

I don’t swim very often ( unless I’m on holiday , swimming in a lovely sea ) and I can’t count lengths , as every time I get to length 13 , I somehow get a mouthful of water and nearly drown ( that might be a bit of an exaggeration )
B mushrooms and fried eggs in olive oil and butter
L creamy broccoli soup
D salmon , avo , salad leaves , cucumber and mayo

Looking forward to Bootcamp light next week ,
does anyone have a link to the low carb granola?
I don’t know which recipe thread it would be on , thanks 😊

Rayna37 · 24/01/2020 22:03

TheClit GrinI'm actually thinking it was pretty small and maybe pigeon or partridge and I've got my p- game birds mixed up. It was a ready made thing I bought reduced in Waitrose and froze a while back! Nice though.

MrsBertBibby · 24/01/2020 22:23

Shout if you need any info Riggins, as family law is what I do.

MrsBertBibby · 24/01/2020 22:26

My appetite has left town. I should be hungry after the gym but nope.

I need to fetch salad to work. The kitchen mings and the fridge is awful but our promised refurb never happens.

Summery1 · 24/01/2020 22:35

B: eggs, spinach, tomatoes & mushrooms. Creamy coffee. It was yum.
L: HM soup. - broccoli and cauliflower and blue cheese.
D: chicken and veg (aubergine, courgette, broccoli, peppers, celery, leek)
Snack: Greek yogurt with dollop of peanut butter. (Twice Blush).
25g of 85% chocolate

I was really craving a treat hence the extra peanut butter. Still. It could have been worse.

Doilooklikeatourist · 24/01/2020 22:36

Just read and caught up ( should have done that before I posted ! )
Holy cow @ShagMeRiggins, what do you want?

HouseTornado · 25/01/2020 06:42

Morning all.

Quick panic weigh - looks like 2 pounds off! Was worried the AF beer I had yesterday ruined everything, so fingers crossed all is well.

Food today:

BF: Cauliflower cheesy egg muffins (made a batch last night...incredible, perfect snack/packed lunch item).

L: left over chicken curry, avocado.
D: Brussel sprouts with butter and parmesan - could eat that all day.

3l water, coffee.

Happy Saturday everyone.

BrassicaBabe · 25/01/2020 08:01

I think "headfuck" under plays matters somewhat shagme. Hope you find the answer easily. x

I've just had a wine free Friday! That NEVER happens. I think finally I've hit a point where I want to lose weight more than I want a glass of wine. It was extra torture because the Tesco delivery dropped wine off at the door! I did end up going to bed early though Hmm

As a long term BC'er and being frustrated by work and holiday travel weight gain (10.6 up to 10.12 in a week Shock) I've egg fasted for 3 days and gone from 10.12 to 10.5 which I'm relieved about. Hope to manage another egg fast today before moving to something more moderate tomorrow. I've got a duck in the freezer that the whole family will enjoy as a roast dinner.

Notwatchingtvtoday · 25/01/2020 09:44

Have been thinking of you Shagmeriggins hope you can find some peace in the turbulence you must be going through Flowers.

After the stall I am now another 1 lb down, so that’s 2lb so far this week, hoping that it stays off for Monday’s weigh in. I made a Thai green curry last night, which went down well and there is enough left over for tonight 😀 , I’m working today, so always much easier if I have prepped before hand.

B total Greek yogurt, Tsp Linwood, Tsp cream, Tsp of frozen crumbed raspberries , 2 coffees each with tsp of double cream
L buttery scrambled eggs with avocado (did not have yesterday as we ran out of eggs)
D Thai green curry with FLGV

3 litres of water

Low carb granola recipe from Tim Noakes's Real Meal Revolution. I haven't tried it myself so can't attest to how good it is.

Confession time. Friday night pub fail. Two medium glasses of white wine, a few of the chips that came with my burger. An onion ring and a bit of the bun.

Am resigned to to consequences. Back on it today. Been to an exercise class and walked the dog.

B - sausage, egg, tomato, mushroom
L - ham salad
D - steak and green vegetables

I tried on my target weight clothes this morning and they're still off limits but a tiny bit less off limits than two weeks ago.

BIWI · 25/01/2020 10:33

@Doilooklikeatourist

Here you go! (It's on the vegetarian recipe thread I think, but also on the original, general thread)

Rose Elliott's Low Carb Granola

I made it with slightly different quantities, (see below for what I used) so not exactly sure what the carb count would be, but it seems low (according to the counts in the book anyway)

RECIPE BY ROSE ELLIOT
Makes 8 servings at 4.4g net carbs per serving

INGREDIENTS

55g unsweetened desiccated coconut
85g chopped brazil nuts
85g chopped walnuts
85g chopped almonds
85g sunflower seeds

I had a 100g packet of all these nuts/seeds so just used the whole packet, and then whacked in a bit more coconut too

115g melted butter *
1 tsp of cinnamon
I used slightly less than a flat teaspoon, as I'm not greatly fond of cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla extract
Some stevia to sweeten
I used vanilla bean paste instead of vanilla extra and stevia - it contains sugar, so stevia isn't necessary, (as well as being artificial). I used probably a tablespoon of this

85g flax seeds I upped this to match the weights of nuts/seeds, so used 100g

  • vegans can use coconut oil instead of butter

METHOD

  1. Preheat oven to 180C.
  2. Put the coconut, brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds and sunflower seeds into a large bowl. Add the melted butter, cinnamon and vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract & stevia if you're using this) and mix together.
  3. Transfer to a baking sheet/tray and bake in the oven for approx. 10-12 mins, stirring a few times, until golden brown . Keep an eye on it though as it'll burn easily.
  4. Remove from the oven and immediately tip into a bowl, to prevent the mixture continuing to cook on the hot baking sheet, and stir in the flax seeds.
  5. Once it's completely cold transfer the mixture to a storage container.
BIWI · 25/01/2020 10:36

FYI - it's not net carbs - not sure why that slipped in Confused

And a serving is 55g.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 25/01/2020 10:41

oh oh oh!

The two things making me look like a foul-tempered middle-aged woman I am have suddenly improved this morning!

My jawline is back, and my naso-labial folds are much less pronounced.

I actually look better! Not just, skin's-ok-shame-about-the-face, but better!

Praise Be to BIWI and StuntNun.

Cheddar, Beware the wine. I am staying teetotal even on BC lite, since even one glass gains me a couple of pounds, which I then spend the next week losing. Then put it on again next weekend with a glass or two, and spend the week losing it.

After about 4 weeks I'm thinking 'what was the point of this again? here, have a potato'.

Some people can manage to continue losing, but not everyone.

MrsBertBibby · 25/01/2020 10:49

I have been able to lose whilst still drinking but I find white wine tastes like syrup on low carb. So if drinking I treat it like cordial : bit of wine and top up with soda water. You could probably do stylish things with cucumber or mint or some such. Longer drink so less booze intake, much more pleasant to the taste as the sickly sweet is gone, and more water going down.

Also alternate each drink with a glass of water.

BrassicaBabe · 25/01/2020 10:55

since even one glass gains me a couple of pounds, which I then spend the next week losing. Then put it on again next weekend with a glass or two, and spend the week losing it. Me too!

I'm an all or nothing girl I think. If I open the bottle I want at least 3/4 of it. Trying to steer clear for as long as possible.

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/01/2020 11:36

Thanks @BIWI , I remember making it before and I’m looking forward to a bit of a crunch with my breakfast next week , as I’m getting a little bored of eggs

Re alcohol. I’m an if it’s there I’ll drink it person , I now have 187 ml bottles of wine , which is 1/4 of a bottle and can stretch to 2 glasses
I’m going to try topping up with sparkling water and ice

@Athelstane, I’m a foul-tempered middle age woman too , but my face is looking a bit more heart shaped again , not moon shaped as I was 2 weeks ago !

SayrraT · 25/01/2020 11:50

Argh! Family coming over today, why did I not start hiding stuff in cupboards last week Grin

Weighed today as I'm planning using today's weight for Monday weigh in Wink got low Carb dinner options planned but I'll probably drink something as I got some gin for my birthday. Not planning on going wild.

While tidying hiding I absentmindedly put a wine gum in my mouth Shock I sucked it for a bit while I decided what to do Grin Then I spat it out and put it in the bin Smile
