Jan '20 - Week 2 Low Carb Bootcamp - How did you do?

StuntNun · 20/01/2020 05:22

We've already seen some fab results, especially from those who started early. We do expect a big variation in the first weigh in. Some of you will have lost several pounds, some a more modest loss. Others won't have lost anything yet either because some healing is needed before weight loss begins in earnest, or because they didn't quite manage to stick to the rules during the first week.

So please check in with us to reflect on how your first week has gone. Try not to compare yourself to others because weight loss is a very individual thing. If you have any concerns about your progress then please do ask. We have had thousands of people through Bootcamp so make use of that collective experience.

Add your weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or tag the rather wonderful ShagMeRiggins with your weigh-in if you can't access the spreadsheet yourself. If you're only just starting then please tag the very lovely AthelstaneTheUnready to be added to the spreadsheet. And to anybody that suspected they couldn't lose weight while eating lots of lovely food, and without feeling hungry... I hope you enjoyed being proved wrong!

Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well sayyra, feel better soon.

CheddarGorgeous · 24/01/2020 08:11

Checking in

B - 2 boiled eggs with butter
L - not sure yet, probably some salad. I'm working from home so don't need to plan
D - going out to a posh burger bar for my dad's birthday. I guess I can have a burger no bun and salad. Not going to lie - there may be a tiny bit of alcohol but equally I might stick to non-alcoholic beer.

Also going for a swim at lunchtime. I did 50 lengths last week so if I have time I'll aim for 64 (a mile).

AthelstaneTheUnready · 24/01/2020 10:07

Just about over the Villainous Egg on Tuesday.

Feeling some more NSVs (this is not showing on the scales yet)

  • can definitely feel a bit of hip bone now
  • hardly muffining over jeans at all (they are the fat jeans, to be fair)
  • healing - had forgotten about this - healing much quicker as in, have a burn from the fire that has near disappeared in two days bar some shiny skin, instead of remaining a red weal for a week or more
  • SO much less anxious at work - able to get stuff done rather than fretting I'm not capable and so not starting

Today's food will be

B: just coffee, I'm not entirely over Egg yet
L: last of the beef stew with veg
D: a version of Notlost's chicken - have remains of a roast chicken and some leeks and mustard, will get some mushrooms and cream/creme fraiche later today

KondoKonvert · 24/01/2020 10:17

I can feel a cold brewing and I'm hoping this magical WOE can stave it off. I've got a party to go to tomorrow and I want to be fightin' fit!

Today's plan:

B: butter coffee (at a Scots' language assembly at school today)
L: leftover crispy skinned duck with fried cabbage and butter
D: ribeye steaks with garlic butter, flat mushrooms, rocket and Caesar dressing

Notwatchingtvtoday · 24/01/2020 10:38

Morning all,
At last a shift on the scales and 1 lb off, thank you for the encouragement to KOKO and to trust it works. Have been to the gym and drunk loads of water already, have switched my morning tea to a cup of boiled water and bizarrely can’t really tell the difference first thing.

Today
B Total Greek yogurt
L scrambled eggs and avocado
D a low carb curry of some kind, will get my thinking head on

TheClitterati · 24/01/2020 11:09

This morning I have noticed, for the first time, a lowering of the pain I am getting from tendonitis.

My way into the bootcamp was looking to adapt an anti-inflammatory diet - I had pretty much given up hope of ever losing weight so that is a lovely bonus - it was a reduction in tendonitis and injured knee pain that is my real motivation.

I've been keeping self recods for pain which has been at around 7 (archilles) & 6 (shoulder) for months. But today, for the first time its more like 5 & 4 so a real improvement.

I also had a really lovely swim this morning and I got into the swimming bliss "zone" for the first time in months - while I have been back in the pool for a couple of weeks, usually I am limited by shoulder pain so that is another leap forward.

So I am really feeling so uplifted and positive today. Childfree weekend ahead so eating will be fine & I might even manage some batch cooking for next week. I also plan on some yoga & swimming/steam/sauna and maybe a spot of DIY.

Creamy coffee
Breakfast - eggs and spinach cooked in butter
Lunch - Cauli/veg/bone broth/cheese soup
Dinner - pulled pork and veg
Oodles of herbal tea & water

Rayna37 · 24/01/2020 11:27

Lovely swim first thing, so lovely I didn't mind at all that the girl who swam twice a fast as me for half an hour then got out and turned out to be 5-6 months pregnant!

Cheddar watch the alcohol free beer, I had one last weekend and it was about 15g carbs per 330ml can which isn't too bad, but they will vary a lot. Not sure how that compares to a glass of wine actually!

HouseTornado · 24/01/2020 13:15

Quick check in between classes to log meals:

BF: Scrambled eggs with lots of butter
L: Beef and spinach salad, lots of mayo
D: Chicken and spinach curry with lots of cream

Mimosa1 · 24/01/2020 13:40

@cheddar that's an amazing swimming distance well done !

@clitterati amazing news on the tendinitis front.

I've fallen spectacularly off the wagon last night - a combo of hunger and emotional eating but I've drawn a line under it and coming back to post instead.

Onwards.

1stMrsF · 24/01/2020 13:47

Checking in
B - creamy coffee
L - Beef in black bean sauce (not ideal but best of choices in the canteen), stir-fried veg
D - Going to the pub so it will be steak probably unless they have something suitable on the daily specials.
water, water, water!

HouseTornado · 24/01/2020 13:47

FFS, I just had an AF Becks Blue before realising it was 10.1g.

StuntNun - please reassure me just this one thing won't derail an otherwise perfect LC week?

I guess Monday's weigh in will give me the answer...so annoyed with myself!

venusandmars · 24/01/2020 13:49

Any of my fellow Scots got a low carb haggis recipe? vegetarians look away now I'm thinking of trying to make my own with liver, heart, a small amount of oatmeal, lard, nutmeg, cayenne, and lots of black pepper. Served with neeps (swede) and cauliflower mash. Don't think I'll be adding lung or stomach!

StuntNun · 24/01/2020 14:02

Summery I eat loads and have always had a big appetite, e.g. four eggs scrambled for breakfast. I think it's unwise to compare against other people as it's impossible to judge relative portion sizes just from a simple list.

Rayna wine is much lower carb than beer but it's the empty calories from alcohol that are the problem plus fat burning stops until the alcohol calories are used up.

Well done for getting back on track Mimosa.

10.1g of carbs is a lot for one beer Tornado but shouldn't be too bad a slip-up so long as the rest of your day is low carb. Remember that first phase Atkins diet is 20g in total per day so use that to judge.

I've never tried to make my own haggis Venus but I do have it occasionally with neep mash when I can get a decent one which isn't very often as I live in the South of England and there's real rubbish passed off as haggis round here.

HouseTornado · 24/01/2020 14:11

Thanks, StuntNun - everything else is spot on.

I've given up drinking but had a v sudden urge! I figured an AF beer was better than wine and/or falling off both wagons...

BrassicaBabe · 24/01/2020 14:31

Phew! It's taken me 2 days to catch-up. Some lovely stories and amazing losses!!

I'm not starting again but I'm not posting a weight for this week. Last week I was away with work and was super strict with food (my homemade coleslaw lasted for 3 days without a fridge!) but I only lost 1lb. I think that because I was relying on babybel, pork scratchings and pepperami my fat wasn't high enough? Then Friday to Tuesday I was in Sweden (v cold!) where the food was out in front of me. Bread and bread! The wine however was not forced down me Sad

So I've been super strict since getting home. I'm planning on being super strict all weekend. Wish me luck!! If I manage it I'm on target to post a better loss on Monday.

Mid aim: get to 10.3
Final goal: 9.10

BrassicaBabe · 24/01/2020 15:05

Oh and I joined a couple of FB keto groups. Pretty bored already of all of the carb alternatives, bread, cakes, cakes and cakes Hmm

CheddarGorgeous · 24/01/2020 15:36

Great news @TheClitterati.

Made it the full mile in the pool. It's the only sport I'm in any way talented at. I can't run for toffee and have forced myself up to 3k on the treadmill, disliking it all.

Might have to stick to water tonight if I can't find a AF beer alternative...

TheClitterati · 24/01/2020 15:55

a mile in the pool is a great swim Cheddar
I used to be able to do that - probably on half a km now. I always have a problem with counting lengths as I get relaxed and loose track & then get anxious about the numbers which I don't like. So now, when I'm on form, I try and swim solidly for 30 min - which used to be 1km. but I'm a bit slower at the moment. But hopefully I'll be back at that 1km ish mark before too long.

MasterFlamingo · 24/01/2020 15:59

Lovely to hear about all the swimming going on today. Well done on the mile Cheddar I went for a dip this morning and swam for about an hour. I didn't count lengths but I did feel great afterwards and much less self-conscious than I usually do in my swimmers.

So far today I've eaten an avocado for breakfast, salmon and FLGV for lunch and I'm planning an aubergine bake for dinner.

Hope everyone has a good weekend ahead and manages to stay on plan.

ShagMeRiggins · 24/01/2020 16:57

CheddarGorgeous you’d probably be better off with a vodka/tonic or gin & slim—both zero carbs—than non-alcoholic beer (8g per 100g) in terms of carb count. Even a glass of wine would be only 2-3g.

Not that I’m encouraging you to drink alcohol!

waspfig · 24/01/2020 17:07

Not too bad today considering I was at a friends for lunch. Tucked into cooked meats, cheese, olives - she even had rollitos! I did have two slices of tomato that had a tiny coating of balsamic so not perfect. Avoided Spanish omelette, bread, and two types of cake! I'm pretty proud of that as I would definitely have scoffed that last week.

B scrambled eggs and avocado
L meats, cheese
D homemade butter chicken and saag paneer no bread

Only 2L water but also 2 teas and 2 herbal teas

Keep strong this weekend everyone, it will worth it in the long run!

ShagMeRiggins · 24/01/2020 17:37

Luck to Brassica

To the poster who keeps calling StuntNun Stungun, thank you. I laugh every time. (Unless you’re dyslexic in which case I don’t laugh at all Blush.)

As for the poster whose children wouldn’t eat scrambled eggs if served (Clitterati ?) that made me laugh outright.

Can’t believe I haven’t been on the thread since Monday but rest assured those who wanted weights added to spreadsheet that I read the whole thread and did my best. I think Athelstane beat me to most of the punches (and sorry about your bad egg).

I lost 2lbs last week by the way. It had been 4lbs down on the Friday so I must be wary of weekends when husband comes home and takes over cooking.

In other news, he wants to stop our ‘separation’ and build our future together. What a headfuck marriage life is sometimes.

But I won’t let any of this, nor the three Hormoaners in my home, derail me.

Water water water and KOKO y’all!

TerpsichoreanMuse · 24/01/2020 18:04

Mushroom & cheese omelette and salad for lunch. Dinner will be calf's liver and something, maybe celeriac chips and greens.

Have had a horrible cold the last few days but feeling a bit better this morning.

MrsBertBibby · 24/01/2020 18:15

Bloody hell Shagme, a headfuck indeed.

Harveywoo · 24/01/2020 18:19

Evening all, checking in before I go out
B: ff cottage cheese on avacado with a dab of taramasalata and coriander. Odd breakfast but totally worked
L: fatty pork with courgettes and mayo
D: no.3 birthday meal at the pub, will be butterfly chicken, garlic butter and veg. There will however be gin (for the only time in this first two weeks of bootcamp , honest) going to try it with soda and lime instead of slimline tonic
Happy weekend all!
