Jan '20 - Week 2 Low Carb Bootcamp - How did you do?

We've already seen some fab results, especially from those who started early. We do expect a big variation in the first weigh in. Some of you will have lost several pounds, some a more modest loss. Others won't have lost anything yet either because some healing is needed before weight loss begins in earnest, or because they didn't quite manage to stick to the rules during the first week.

So please check in with us to reflect on how your first week has gone. Try not to compare yourself to others because weight loss is a very individual thing. If you have any concerns about your progress then please do ask. We have had thousands of people through Bootcamp so make use of that collective experience.

Add your weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or tag the rather wonderful ShagMeRiggins with your weigh-in if you can't access the spreadsheet yourself. If you're only just starting then please tag the very lovely AthelstaneTheUnready to be added to the spreadsheet. And to anybody that suspected they couldn't lose weight while eating lots of lovely food, and without feeling hungry... I hope you enjoyed being proved wrong!

Thank you stungun Flowers for taking the time to write that all down, it makes absolute sense, I feel slimmer, am drinking loads and not needing to wee that much (sorry if TMI). It gives me added encouragement
to KOKO , it really helps me when it is explained so clearly as I can have a conversation with myself when it feels like its not shifting .
Thanks Sayrra for explaining it's not a stall - just impatience on my part.

MillennialPink · 23/01/2020 16:04

Anyone else feel absolutely shattered after any exercise? I've always had loads of stamina in the gym, running, zumba etc despite being a couple of stone overweight. Since starting on the lo-carb my usual exercise class in the morning is leaving me absolutely wiped out for the rest of the day. Wonder how long it will take for my body to adjust. I did Lo Carb about 10 years ago and kept the weight off for 2 years so I know this is the best regime for me but I could happily go back to bed at lunchtime.

CheddarGorgeous · 23/01/2020 16:12

Hi @MillenialPink, I'm the opposite, lots of water and no alcohol means I'm sleeping better and my energy levels are good.

Might you be run down for other reasons? And it is gloomy January after all.

whitershadeofpale · 23/01/2020 16:24

I had a bit of a lucky escape earlier. I was going out for a work lunch, had checked out the menu and decided what I was having only for it to be changed at the last minute to going for a curry! I had duck shashlick (I didn't eat all of the onion), raita and sag paneer, which I hope was ok?

Avoided booze as a few people were doing dry January and stuck to sparkling water.

MillennialPink · 23/01/2020 16:29

CheddarGorgeous. I don't think I'm run down for any other reason. I DO my work out just fine, but then by the time I get home I'm too tired to do anything else whereas in the past I'd have MORE energy after a run or a workout. I think it must have been all the carbs I used to eat that were giving me so much stamina, which is a bit of a pain. I thought I was fit - but it turns out I was just running on pasta!

Rshard · 23/01/2020 16:59

Pleasantly surprised by the lunch offerings at uni today, lots of low carb options including cheese board, deli meats and salad leaves. Successfully avoided the constant supply of sweet treats too!

waspfig · 23/01/2020 17:00

@venusandmars
Yes great idea to just leave the batter. Steamed fish has got to be better than dried out fried fish.

@stuntnun unfortunately it's a tiny rural chip shop - definitely no chicken on offer!

I have purchased another celeriac so will make celeriac chips and green veg to go with my fish. I am determined to stick with it.

Mimosa1 · 23/01/2020 17:18

Hi @sayrra probably too much as I have several cups of tea a day. I've swapped over to decaf and experimenting with herbal teas so going to find something I like better. I've also bought some Lactofree milk as that seems to have fewer carbs.

CheddarGorgeous · 23/01/2020 18:10

@MillenialPink I thought the carbs = energy was a myth for anything other than long distance / endurance but I'm happy to be corrected.

I know we're supposed to eat real food on LCBC but have you tried a protein shake made with natural yoghurt after a workout?

prettybird · 23/01/2020 18:58

TheClitterati - I wouldn't go as far as to say I was playing rugby GrinBlush Despite the fact that ds who is very good has been playing since he was just turned 5 (he's now 19 and away at Uni in his 2nd year), I've never even thrown a rugby ball! Shock I'm very good at the theory of it, having taken so many pictures of him over the years (and he's hyper-critical of his technique) and know the laws well, having watched him progress through the Age Grade Law Variations and dh is also a qualified referee Wink

But perhaps I shouldn't be trying to spin pass (ds is a scrum half so that's a skill he's learnt well) before I've learnt simply to catch and pass the call Hmm

No real contact so no bruising. Sore triceps and biceps though from one of the drills we were doing.

MillenialPink - once you're ketogenically adapted, you should find you have plenty of energy. I do a Jillian Michaels DVD (Ripped or The Shred), fasted, most week day mornings - and the day I don't, I'm cycling 3.5 miles, climbing 4 flights of stairs and then doing a Pilates class followed by coffee and cycling home - all while following 16-8 (so no breakfast and o my have something to eat when I get home).

Stick with it and I'm sure your energy will return. Are you having plenty of water?

venusandmars · 23/01/2020 19:32

NSV
At one time my blood pressure was 210/125

Meds helped to bring it down, but now I'm med free and look at these readings...

Sounds like everyone is doing brilliantly!
B: 2 poached eggs, avacado butter
L: salami, cambazola,cuc, dip
D: cheese and cream leeks, mushroom, sausage and pork scratchings
My ongoing lack of snacking is amazing, no more repetitive cravings, hooray for bootcamp! Still a very tired though and sleeping more than usual, hoping it’ll pass
Put a twining cold infusions mint and cucumber in my giant water bottle today, s’nice!

Doilooklikeatourist · 23/01/2020 20:00

Started the day with a smear test ( ouch ) and had my blood pressure checked too which was good ( I have no idea what it was though )

B egg mayo
L felt dreadful with sore throat and ear ache , just had hot water and lemon
D home baked ham , broccoli in a creamy cheese sauce
Still feeling crap , so breaking into Bootcamp light to have a single glass of Chardonnay

This cold is lasting forever and I’m not pleased , had 3 nosebleeds yesterday and one today

Will have at least 2 more hot lemon waters tonight , and there’s a bottle of sparkling water on the go too
I’ll wash the cold bug out of my system !

ilovecherries · 23/01/2020 20:12

Lovely. My keto itch is back! Had forgotten about this particular joy. Last time I nearly ripped my skin off. I’m covered in aveeno, taken a Benadryl, and eaten a a handful of nuts to up my carbs a little. I’ve drunk plenty. Just out interest, I did poas (we need to keep multistix in the house for DD) snd I am deep, deep purple, even after dinner.

TheClitterati · 23/01/2020 20:39

Oh crap I ate a grape!

It was just on the side for the kids and I just picked one up and put it in my mouth and ate it and I didn't even realise what I done until it was gone. The unconscious eating!!

I've also struggled with water a bit today but otherwise yeah another good day I've had a vegetarian day and I'm still waiting for my celeriac to come out of the oven so finishing off the late dinner - busy day with work and kids clubs.

TheClitterati · 23/01/2020 20:53

venus that's incredible/ you must be so so pleased to have turned your health around so dramatically!!!

Rayna37 · 23/01/2020 21:16

B: 2 egg omelette with cheese and mushrooms
Small Brie portion mid morning
L: egg & cheese mayo on spinach, tomato and cucumber with olive oil; yogurt
D: curry of chicken and lots of veg, with small portion of cauli rice.

MonaChopsis · 23/01/2020 21:36

Brunch was creamy scrambled eggs on avocado slices, dinner was an intentional fail... Went to a friends house for dinner, we were going to have spaghetti bolognese with courgetti but her kids begged for lasagne instead, so she made me lasagne with courgette slices instead of pasta, but of course it still had the white sauce, and in addition she did half pork mince half beans!! Ah well. It tasted delicious, I ate in moderation, and retained the willpower to say no to biscuits after dinner... That is a huge thing for me, as I would normally think "well I've already stuffed up, might as well have a biscuit. Or two. Or fourteen." So I'm really happy I managed to retain mental control over my intake despite falling off the wagon!!

MonaChopsis · 23/01/2020 21:37

Dinner was an unintentional fail!! Honest!

Onlyaprawn · 23/01/2020 21:56

B: Greek yoghurt
L: Caesar salad, no croutons
T: Garlic prawns/mushrooms with Greek salad

StuntNun · 23/01/2020 22:16

Millenial it can take as long as six weeks to fully adapt to this way of eating so that's likely the reason you're feeling less energetic. When we've had people training for e.g. marathons or long cycle competitions, they've sometimes had to keep using gels and/or eating something carbier such as bananas pre-race in the first few weeks. Long-term they aren't needed. The only normal form of exercise where you actually need a higher carb intake than Bootcamp provides would be explosive weight training such as snatch power lifts.

Right, that's now twice I've sat down with scrambled eggs after the kids (3 and 1) have had their lunch, and twice they've ended up standing in front of me like baby birds demanding to be fed. Like the mug I am, I generously share, having to skirt round the copious covering of salt and pepper.

Would they eat scrambled eggs if I intentionally served it up for their lunch? Would they fuck.

They really seem to like some of the low carb stuff. They went nuts for eggy muffins and both are cheese fiends. And one previous bootcamp my toddler discovered the joys of peanut butter on a spoon!! won't eat veg though

I can recommend my dinner of chicken in a mustard, leek and creme fraiche sauce, with a side of green beans and some swede. Got it for my lunch for tomorrow!! (I know swede is a touch on the carby side, but it was definitely a smallish portion)

I can also massively recommend some grated parmesan stirred into scrambled eggs.

Summery1 · 24/01/2020 00:05

Another food one:

B; eggs with mozzarella
L; salmon, hollandaise, veg.
D; veg stirfry with leftovers ham.
Snack; peanut butter with greek yogurt, 25g of 85% chocolate Blush

I'm definitely eating more than others on this thread. I exercise a good bit (2,200m swim tonight, plus I walked the dog) and I am definitely losing. Anyway I feel really good. My veg quantity and variety is massive. My energy levels are good. I'm looking forward to BC lite though.

SayrraT · 24/01/2020 07:32

Not feeling great today for some reason. Went to bed at 8pm with a headache and woke up still with it.

Been drinking plenty but might add some zero electrolytes just in case I've washed them all away.

MrsBertBibby · 24/01/2020 07:51

Morning all. Did very badly with water yesterday, woke up feeling like my tongue had turned to leather. I have lost the habit of water bottle carrying.

But still below 13 stone!
