Morning all! Very sorry for the late start. I set my alarm. Woke up. Wondered why I'd set my alarm and went straight back to sleep Blush

Anyhoo.

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

For those of us who are new, the spreadsheet is not only where you record your weight (if you want to - it's not obligatory), it's also where you'll find lots of other useful information. Look at the tabs at the bottom for the rules, a veg counter (that will work out your carb count for you if you're using it for a recipe), and lots of other resources to help you learn more about low carbing.

I'll be back to post more stuff later this morning, but for now just wanted to get the link out there.

If you're using your phone to access the thread, you will need to download the Google docs app.

MrsGareth, with the disclaimer that everyone is slightly different... I find I cannot lose weight if I'm eating cheese regularly.

This BC I am trying to keep it to no more than a piece about the size of my thumb once every other day. BUT... it doesn't appear to be a problem with goats cheese, just normal coo beastie cheese. So if you're struggling on a veggie diet and simply can't manage without, you could try going goat only?

The good news is that cheese doesn't make me gain weight, so once you've lost what you're aiming for, you might be able to eat much more again with no effect.

dotheshakeandvac · 19/10/2019 18:26

I'm really late to this bootcamp - have been away for a couple of weeks.

@AthelstaneTheUnready - really sorry, I don't seem to be able to add details to the spreadsheet. Well done on the smoking - fabulous work.

@BIWI I am a bit of a lurker here but thank you so much for these threads - they are amazing (and the new kitchen looks fab!)

I started with the Oct 2018 bootcamp, so have been doing this for almost exactly a year.

My starting weight was 277.6lbs (yes you read that right!). I'm now 215, so still have a way to go but confident I'll eventually get there.

I was a size 26, and this week walked into a 'normal' clothes shop and picked up a size 18 knowing it would fit.

Bootcamp can be life changing. For the new starters, it can feel really tough at first, but stick with it and it becomes totally normal and doable. Just keep on keeping on. Smile

MrsGarethSouthgate · 19/10/2019 18:28

@AthelstaneTheUnready

That is very sad news. Particularly as I've just forced down some deep fried halloumi (with garlic mayo and a bowl of kale roasted in olive oil with salt and paprika)!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 19/10/2019 18:31

MrsGareth, you're telling me. But that might not be your issue! See what BIWI has to say. But there's definitely a substantial minority of us who have found cheese to be a problem .

dotheshake, n'a pas de quoi! Will put you on.

Rayna37 · 19/10/2019 18:35

MrsGareth I would say be careful with portions. Can't speak for quorn but I would consider one regular gammon steak a portion not two; would have been better to add some mushrooms or spinach or courgette in there maybe. Not enough green veg from the details I've spotted. I'm hoping your pack of Gouda isn't like the one I have (400g) but a whole pack is still likely to be a lot. 200g is 8oz. Even 100g at 4oz would be quite a big portion.
Hopefully this way of eating is making you feel good though and just cutting out sugar and drinking lots of water will be a good thing. Unfortunately as a vegetarian you're going to end up eating slightly more processed food than would be ideal so just read all the packets very carefully!
Also, could your scales be broken?! that old chestnut, I know.

That's amazing! It really is life-changing.

I agree with this. My body doesn't like processed food, either for weight loss or feeling good. Low carb crisps, zero noodles, anything fake, I gain and feel crap. It's much easier for omnivores; hunk of meat/fish, FLGV, dollops of fat. Easy.

MrsGarethSouthgate · 19/10/2019 18:45

That's excellent progress @dotheshakeandvac, really well done! You must feel fantastic.

MrsGarethSouthgate · 19/10/2019 18:49

@MrsTerryPratchett I am definitely missing lentils and beans!

Tentontessie · 19/10/2019 19:06

I’m having another funny day with no appetite at all and finding it difficult to stomach anything. Have had one babybel and a pack of m and s chorizo crisps. Went in there for a meatzza but not one to be found! Very good on the drinking though, have probably done 3l.

MrsGarethSouthgate · 19/10/2019 19:10

Thank you @Rayna37, really appreciate the suggestions. Even I, lover of all things cheese, did feel that the 10 slice pack of gouda may have been a step too far Blush, I was just trying to get plenty of fat in the absence of avocado.

I am being careful with the quorn I think. I wanted to buy some burgers today to have in a lettuce bun, but the carbs were around 9g per 100g (10g for the ultimate one!), so I picked the quorn beefsteaks instead at 5.3g per 100g and will use one of these instead. The gammon steaks are very low (they are very thin which probably helps) and the frankfurters from memory are around 3g per 100g.

I've been and bought a MASSIVE bag of spinach, and will have some everyday, even if I have to shoehorn it in. I thought beansprouts and mushrooms would be quite good but I could and should have added some spinach as well.

I am going to make some broccoli and stilton (not too much though!) soup shortly, and make myself find enough room to have it for lunch next week. It will contain lots of butter and cream.

I will keep an eye on my portion control for definite, thank you. Just finished my 5th 700ml of water so far today, going for an unprecedented 6th one next! I normally get to around 3 and then lose count, so am going to keep a pen handy and draw a little mark on my hand when I refill, to keep an eye on it Blush

dotheshakeandvac · 19/10/2019 20:07

Thanks so much AthelstaneTheUnready MrsTerryPratchett and MrsGarethsouthgate. You're right - I feel so much better.

My tip for when the savoury crunchy cravings bite - Snaffling Pig pork rinds are delicious and have totally replaced crisps for me when I have the need. Much easier on the teeth than pork crackling!!

dotheshakeandvac · 19/10/2019 20:09

And @Tentontessie you're right - I've been trying to get my hands on an M&S Meatzza for about 3 months now with no success - always totally sold out!

absopugginglutely · 19/10/2019 20:28

Hi all hope you’ve all had a good hydrated day!
Just checking in:
B: Omlette buttery
L: 1 tomato, 3 slices of goats cheese, cucumber and salami slices.
D: asparagus grilled in salt and butter, egg fried cauliflower rice, also meatball ready meal with a tomatoey sauce (3.7g per 100g it said but it was quite sweet??)
And obligatory pile of broc. Deeeelicious!!

2 litres so far need third before bed.

2x cream coffees.

absopugginglutely · 19/10/2019 20:29

Aldi not also*

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/10/2019 21:06

I made a delicious LC soup tonight. Fried off some shallots and cauliflower rice in chilli oil, then added some home made chicken stock and salt and pepper. Reduced it down a bit, whizzed with a stick blender, Finished it off with a dollop of double cream. Was amazed by how good it was!

SittingontheSidelines · 19/10/2019 22:03

@dotheshakeandvac that's impressive, well done

ShagMeRiggins · 19/10/2019 22:08

So, one week of boot camp and my appetite has reduced. I remember this now from when I did the January one. I started in January but continued until about June when I went naturally into maintenance, managed to stay the same in the summer despite 3 weeks in Canada (so much walking and kayaking etc seemed to cancel out the extra food) and September came and life got stressful. Dtds struggling to settle into year 4, dh needing an op (he had it a week ago) and general exhaustion led me to bread. So much bread! I put on half a stone over 3 weeks. Anyway, I'm back on it and sticking with running too as I like how toned my tummy is starting to feel.

January: 11st 8lbs size 14
May: 9st 11lbs
October: 10st 5lbs

Boot camp Target: 9st 7lbs

Overall target: 9st 2lbs

TheHoundsofLove · 20/10/2019 06:20

I'm starting to realise this too. I did make a Quorn Tikka Masala last night, which was really lovely, but I really don't like the mince/burgers/sausages. I really miss lentils and chickpeas! The last time I tried low carbing I was a meat/fish eater and I have to say that it is massively more difficult as a vegetarian. I know it's not impossible, but I am finding no lentils/pulses to be really very limiting.

Rshard · 20/10/2019 06:32

Superb loss shakeandvac, you’ve done so well!

Glad you ended up going out cauliflower

Almahart · 20/10/2019 08:31

Well done Athelstane!!

I’ve gone off piste, have been BC since May and sort of rebelled yesterday. However, non BC food is no nicer I realise so back on it today.

Goblin87 · 20/10/2019 09:13

Nearly a week down and feeling good. I low carbed earlier in the year and lost 10lb but fell off the wagon over the holidays. I’m about a stone away from my target of 10st 7 (5ft7). Tell be your boot camp successes to keep me motivated!
