Week 4 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - time to KOKO!

Morning all

Hopefully there will be some losses to record on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness but please don't be disheartened if you didn't lose (or even see a small gain.

Weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for this. Your body is getting used to the new regime, but if you stick to it, then you should see things get moving again from next week.

If you are struggling, make sure that you are following Bootcamp rules to the letter; consider whether or not dairy is an issue for you - and if you've moved to Bootcamp Light then perhaps consider going back to Bootcamp for another week or so?

Whatever the case, don't develop a case of the fuckits and jump head first into the biscuits. That's the only way to guarantee that you will gain weight!

am ignoring that I still managed to make another mistake earlier and the last bit should have said NOT the only one feeling sad, rather than the only one not feeling said

18pagesfrontandback · 04/06/2019 14:58

sad

Shoot me now. It would be a mercy killing.

BIWI · 04/06/2019 15:04

Hmm @TheWaiting. I'm not surprised you're exhausted! And I can totally understand that trying to introduce a new/different WOE is adding to your stress levels.

But how does your DH get away with being exhausted when he's only working during the week? He isn't doing any of the childcare or taxiing or household chores or homework supervision that you're doing! You need to leave stuff for him to do at the weekend so that you get a break. And stop feeling guilty about doing stuff for yourself. You are just as important as anyone else in the household.

But how come you're only getting 10-15 minutes for lunch? That can't be right, surely?!

But how come you're only getting 10-15 minutes for lunch?

TheWaiting is a teacher, BIWI. Teachers rarely get proper lunch time. It’s dreadful.

BIWI · 04/06/2019 15:33

I know she's a teacher @ShagMeRiggins. But if I was feeling faint because I wasn't having enough time to eat, I'd have to do something about that!

Okay, finally caught up with the thread. Mammoth post and name-checks coming up.

First, of the 5lbs I “gained” based on yesterday's Weigh in, 3lbs disappeared overnight. I did nothing differently yesterday so please y’all, don’t be discouraged by these weird numbers. Just. Stick. With. It. The overall trajectory will be down.

NLisa thanks for checking in Wink

iamnotacerealkiller I can’t remember if I congratulated you, but what lovely news.

Grimbles congrats on your darling daughter.

Greebo delphiniums are a favourite, Yours are beautiful, and I’ve just asked my husband to find some cheap ones at the end of the day in London to bring home for me.

missblockbuster I was a late convert to the joys of celeriac. Resisted mightily because I didn’t like the idea of it as a substitute for potatoes. Same with cauliflower for “rice” and courgettes for “spaghetti*. I was generally against substitutions, preferring to stick with dishes that were mostly meat & two veg, but that became soooo boring. Once I realised that using those vegetables wasn’t a substitute but simply a different dish—and how fecking delicious it all was, not to mention healthier—I’ve become alarmingly evangelical about using them. Just ask my children. Hmm

TheWaiting I’ve been where you are with four young children and a husband who works long hours/is away a lot, but didn’t have the added challenge of full time work. I did volunteer a lot, but still, I absolutely understand how little time you must have for anything. 18pages gave some good advice, as did BIWI. I won’t try to talk you into KOKO, but I will ask: what types of meals will you be replacing LCHF with that will take less of your time and require less planning and preparation? Please look after yourself (as BIWI suggests). Flowers

youwanapizza fantastic result in those photos in just two weeks. A great fitting bra will easily take another 5-10lbs off. I really hope that didn’t sound insulting, I say it because today I’m working from home with no clients and am wearing my “comfy” bra instead of the terrific ones I had fitted from Bravissimo. It completely changes my silhouette, for the worse.

To everyone, when you’re ready, perhaps after achieving a particularly milestone, get a proper bra fitting and delight yourself with the results.

I also had a note here to respond to Nigella but all it says is “diet” and I have no idea what the fuck that means. Sorry Nigella. Hmm

Finally, for the poster who needed more Vitamin C for anemia, check out broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and capsicums. So sayeth Google.

Mwah! Big kisses to all you gorgeous random internet strangers.

TheWaiting · 04/06/2019 16:57

Thank you so much everyone for your understanding and not just telling me to pull myself together!
@BIWI, DH is often out the country so after a red eye back from the US on a Friday night he’s often shattered Sat am. However, tbf, he does his bit ferrying them to their various clubs.
My lunch break is 45min but I hold a club one day a week for 30mins, I’m on lunch duty one day then a catch up class on another so on 3 days out of 5, it’s a 15min break which often ends up as 5-10mins once everything else is sorted. Nothing on the other 2 but both are practical afternoons so 15min prep which leaves me a nice long 30mins on those days (unless something else turns up which is usually does on at least one of them as I head of year) leaving so early after getting all 4 up and out means I grab a yoghurt at my desk around 8.15. I really don’t want this to sound woe is me. I have a lot in life to be thankful for. I’m just exhausted.

I’ve decided not to throw in the towel but I won’t manage to completely keep up. I’m looking to drop down to p/t in the autumn and DH should be home more by September too so hopefully I can keep on a reduced carb WOE then maybe pick up the Oct boot camp if that’s ok?
Good luck everyone. Smile I’ll try to check in every now and then.

TheWaiting · 04/06/2019 17:00

p.s In answer to what to teachers do to get around feeling faint; we have copious amounts of tea/coffee and biscuits in our staff rooms and classrooms that we all practically live on during term time. Grin

prettybird · 04/06/2019 17:22

Glad you're still going to keep in touch with Boot Camp TheWaiting

FWIW: I remember the primary school teachers (especially the head, the depute head and two principal teachers who formed the SMT) at ds' old primary often only got 10 minutes to eat after school finished at 3.15 Shock This was because they would be on playground duty and/or meetings at lunch time and breaks. (At least the janitor covered the before school period Shock). You have my respect Flowers

I'm not so aware of what the secondary teachers had to do: although I do know the depute heads were often out of the school with their walkie talkies monitoring the pupils' behaviour in the near by shops (ironically, as much to protect the young people from trouble makers as to make sure they weren't smoking/acting unsocially) - so heaven know when they managed to eat! Shock

The good news is that if you can get into the swing of things and become fat adapted, your body will learn to "dine in" Wink and use your own fat for energy Grin

NigellaAwesome · 04/06/2019 17:36

Shagmeriggins sorry I wasn't more specific, was getting late & tired last night. I have to do a week of low fat & low sugar. Low sugar & low carb I can cope with, as that's what I'm doing now, but low fat? There are 3 options to choose from.

Below is the best diet option I have chosen which doesn't involve cans of weight watchers soups bleurgh

Breakfast - small bowl of cereal or 1 slice toast & scraping of low fat spread. No can do. I can perhaps replace with berries & low fat plain yoghurt.

Lunch: 1 slice bread nope, 50g lean meat or fish or 30g low fat cheese or 2 eggs (not fried) and green salad, no dressing. Ok, I could manage that without the bread, but will miss mayo.

Dinner: 50g lean meat or fish or 30g low fat cheese or 2 eggs (not fried), plus 1 small potato or 2 tbs pasta or rice or 1 slice of bread. I have negotiated with the dietician that I can replace the small potato with celeriac or sweet potato. Green vegetables (no butter or dressing).

200ml milk (will replace with almond milk) a day and 4 pints of water.

This is supposed to work out at 1200 kcal, 88g protein, and 175g carbs which is way higher than I am comfortable with. The dietician kept saying that you have to have carbs, because it protects the protein.

I suppose it is only for a week to begin with, but post op it is likely to be much the same

Nameusernameuser · 04/06/2019 17:38

Just been to M&S and picked this up for mine and DPs dinner. The magazine was £6 and I didn't notice until we'd driven off. £6 !!!!!! It does look more like a cookbook inside than a magazine with lots of sciency things behind low carbing. If there's any good recipes I'll post pictures on the recipe thread, hopefully the whole of bootcamp can get it's £6 worth Grin

Week 4 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - time to KOKO!
Nameusernameuser · 04/06/2019 17:41

@NigellaAwesome that's similar to the diet my father is on after some very very serious gallbladder surgery. Eating fat landed him straight back in surgery, he was low carb lover but now says that's what nearly killed him off! He was more strict with keto but really struggled to reintroduce carbs. Look after yourself Flowers

BIWI · 04/06/2019 18:21

@NigellaAwesome have a look at the Fast 800 book. It's low calorie but based on being low carb. Dr Michael Moseley (who write it) also recommends full fat stuff.

There are some lovely recipes in the book that may fit your plan.

Also, if it's any comfort, Dr Charles Clark, who wrote The High Protein Diet (more about low carbing to be honest) suggested a slice of wholemeal toast per day.

Glad you’re going to hang around thewaiting

shag you always make me laugh!

Enjoy the meatzza nameuser, I liked it - perfect for a treat as a pp (sorry can’t remember who) said

ShagMeRiggins · 04/06/2019 18:59

you have to have carbs, because it protects the protein ... from what? Confused

Well done you for negotiating the celeriac Grin and quite obviously the most important thing is for your surgery to go well and for you to recover as quickly as possible. There are worse things than being on a low sugar, low fat diet for a short period of time; as my dad would say, “It’s better than a sharp stick in the eye!” #dadjokes

ShagMeRiggins · 04/06/2019 19:12

Nigella I wanted to clarify that it wasn’t you who caused my confusion, it was me! As I caught up on the thread I made little notes (username and a prompt for myself) for those posts I wanted to reply to. For your post I wrote “Nigella, Diet” and it was only when I started to write my reply that I realised I had not given myself information to remember what your original post was about and what I wanted to say. And searching for it was out of the question on my phone.

Anyway, that is a stupidly long-winded way to tell you that under no circumstances was I suggesting “no idea what the fuck that meant” was a snidey-pants remark about your post.

I pride myself on not being rude unintentionally. Heh heh. Smile

Your post was crystal clear. Your post was Swarovski. Your post was practically FL/IF diamond. Mwah!

Youwanapizzame · 04/06/2019 19:28

Ha ha @shagmeriggins. That IS my best bravissimo bra!!! 😂🤣🤣😂 maybe it's time for another visit lol

Yes I was going to as what are we protecting the poor protein from???

Youwanapizzame · 04/06/2019 19:38

Ooooh I'm right looking forward to my dinner tonight. We had gammon yesterday which I didn't really like. It was a bit salty (I'm a massive salt fan too!!!) So tonight I've made a cheese sauce with sour cream mozzarella and cheddar added chopped gammon and leftover courgette and mushrooms then combined with cooked cauliflower topped in a dish topped with parmesan and it's in thoven.... it's all brown and crunchy delicious looking. And enough for 2 days! Yummers

18pagesfrontandback · 04/06/2019 19:44

shagmeriggins screen shots are your friend for remembering posts if you’re on a mob Wink

That meatzza and those jalapeño things look good! I did try to find the meatzza in a decent sized M&S while we were away, but alas, no joy. I remembered a boot-camper posting whereabouts they are stocked in the shop but couldn’t remember where that was Grin Dd was most unimpressed with my ‘just one more lap, maybe they’re with the desserts?...’

prettybird · 04/06/2019 20:02

If you're on the app, you can switch between your draft message and back to the thread and work your way up/down the posts (as appropriate).

You do however have to remember to save periodically, just in case the app/your phone crashes while you are doing so and/or it claims to have posted but actually hasn't and instead had disappeared off in to tend ether Hmm

blackteaplease · 04/06/2019 20:14

If you are on the mobile site you can use the find on page function on your browser to search as well. That's very handy on the recipe threads.

ShagMeRiggins · 04/06/2019 20:21

That IS my best bravissimo bra!!!

Oh. Fuuuuuck. Soooo sorry for my comment, pizzame. BlushBlushBlush

ShagMeRiggins · 04/06/2019 20:32

screen shots are your friend for remembering posts

Geez, why did I not think of that? I am a Screen Shot semi Luddite Warrior and it never occurred to me. I always make handwritten notes. Hmm

prettybird and blacktea I genuinely appreciate the App advice, but I loathe the App. Not because it’s a bad one, but because I am wedded to my Mumsnet layout from when I joined six thousand years ago, when all this were fields...

WATER! WATER! WATER!

ShagMeRiggins · 04/06/2019 20:32

blacktea just read again and you were talking about the mobile site, not the App. Will have a look, cheers.

Rshard · 04/06/2019 20:34

The meatzza are with the meat rather than the pizzas 18pages, in a little foil tray. I was looking for something packaged like their pizzas......
