Week 3 - Sumer 19 Low Carb Bootcamp - Bootcamp Light?

BIWI · 27/05/2019 08:09

Morning all. Today sees the start of week 3, which is when you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means you can now introduce some fruit, some nuts and seeds and alcohol in moderation.

Note the bold formatting!

However you don't have to move on to Bootcamp Light if you don't want to. If it's working for you, then by all means stay on Bootcamp. Some people choose to do Bootcamp during the week but take a more relaxed approach at the weekend.

Here are carb counts for fruit - you can see that most of them are pretty high. These are taken from Sainsbury's website and show the amount of carbs per 100g:

Canteloupe melon 4
Raspberries 4.6
Blackberries 5.1
Galia/Honeydew melon 5.3
Passion fruit 5.8
Strawberries 6.1
Watermelon 6.8
Peach 7.5
Plums 8.8
Papaya 8.8
Nectarine 9
Blueberries 9.1
Pineapple 10.1
Kiwi 11
Apples 11.8
Mango 14.1
Lychees 14.3
Grapes 17
Pomegranate seeds 18.7
Banana 23.2

When it comes to nuts and seeds, these too vary widely:

Brazils 3.1
Walnuts 3.3
Pine nuts 4 (but beware - toasted pine nuts are 10)
Macadamias 5.3
Pecans 5.8
Desiccated coconut (technically a fruit!) 6.4
Almonds 6.9 (smoked almonds are 7.7)
Monkey nuts 9.3
Peanuts (salted) 10.9
Fresh coconut (from the chilled cabinet) 15.2
Cashews 18.1

(These carb counts for either salted or unsalted)

Seeds:

Sesame 0.9
Poppy 4.7
Chia 8.6
Pumpkin 15.2
Sunflower 16.4

As far as alcohol is concerned, the best drinks are clear spirits (gin/vodka/whisky/rum) but you need to be careful what mixer you're using. Soda is by far the best option, but if you want something else, you'll need to go down the artificial sweetener route to keep the carbs low.

Dry white wine and Champagne are OK, and red wine. Avoid beer and cider.

@Youwanapizzame do you mean 18.4 stone and 15 stone? Something isn't right there!

prettybird · 02/06/2019 13:29

The red cabbage was probably cooked with brown sugar Hmm

MrsFionaCharming · 02/06/2019 13:45

Yep, had one mouthful and left the rest, but it was very disappointing.

Youwanapizzame · 02/06/2019 13:50

Nameuser yes STONES....

I'm going to try mums scales today...

Youwanapizzame · 02/06/2019 13:52

It's not the number I'm that bothered about but I'd really like to k no ow what I've lost altogether....

EatenAlltheEasterEggs · 02/06/2019 14:35

Congratulations IamnotaCerealKiller.

I long for reaching the weight I was when I was full term with both my children! Hopefully I'll have made it by the end of Bootcamp Smile

Nameusernameuser · 02/06/2019 14:51

Pizza even if your scales are wrong, just go from whatever your start weight was to where you are now, that should at least show you the lbs lost!

tootstastic · 02/06/2019 15:18

@m0therofdragons Time to treat yourself to a new outfit I think, not so guys hit on you, but so you feel a million dollars when you go out, rather than uncomfortable and unfashionable. It's how you felt that will have affected your energy, making you less approachable....not you being unattractive! I hear these personal shopper experiences in dept stores are good if you're in a bit of a style rut and they're free, you only pay for the clothes you buy.

Im still v tired, but hangover gone and gym sessions nailed and looking forward to a nice roast lamb dinner cooked by DH. Going to spend the rest of the day with my feet up catching up on crap tv...bliss!

Youwanapizzame · 02/06/2019 16:33

Nameuser but I don't think I can rely on them being at all accurate.... sigh...

blackteaplease · 02/06/2019 16:45

@youwannapizzame if you don't have scales you can rely on the best thing to do is take your measurements to record inch/cm loss rather than lbs. You'll still end up with the same result.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 02/06/2019 17:05

Hello hello, just checking in. Done the weekly low carb shop. Bought two packs of Barenaked noodles, hoping that they'll be good enough to have with Bolognese sauce for a couple of evenings. Am about to make a crustless quiche for lunches and parmesan chicken with homemade aioli for dinner today. I am knackered from gardening today and yesterday. Think my loss will stay at 1lb this week, but then I never feel the diet so far so you never know i guess.

Ninkaninus · 02/06/2019 17:20

pizza your scales will still be measuring pounds correctly.

So you can just change your starting weight on the spreadsheet to 100, take off however many lbs you’re supposed to have lost in the first two weigh-ins, and then continue taking pounds off every week according to whatever loss shows on your scales weekly. There’s no need to give up recording it.

Or, buy a new set of scales and problem solved once and for all!

Ninkaninus · 02/06/2019 17:22

Just out of interest are you weighing yourself on a carpeted surface? Because that’s not going to be reliable.

m0therofdragons · 02/06/2019 17:31

@Summery1 friends weren't flirting (both married) but men coming up saying they're beautiful... I mean gross men I wouldn't look at in a million years with teeth missing etc (it was a rough pub ).

@NigellaAwesome I guess men did come up to me in my 20s but I'm late 30s now. I never dated the men from clubs and dh only ever enters a club if he's with me and dragged there. It's so stupid. Over it now. Thank you for letting me vent!

Everyone should see Aladdin - it's fab!

BIWI · 02/06/2019 17:42

@m0therofdragons - I reckon it's because you looked obviously too far out of their league. You should see it as a compliment Grin

 thanks @BIWI Grin

MrsBertBibby · 02/06/2019 18:27

Blokes have never come up to me in bars since I left my teens behind. I'm a decent looking woman (well, especially when I was younger, not so much now at 50!) I reckon they can tell a woman with some basic self-esteem when they see her. Drives me fucking nuts when women who I am with give them the time of day.

Today, the boy made choc chip cookies. Not so much as a lick of a spoon passed my lips.

Heartyhooker · 02/06/2019 18:45

Finding today mentally tough and feeling a bit jittery, telling myself it's just my body releasing toxins as it breaks down those pesky fat cells but have only just avoided the Yorkshire pudding ds2 left. I have been deliberately making less so none spare and it is most inconsiderate of him to leave some, they have been turning out perfectly since I started this WOE.

L bacon and coconut flour pancakes
T beef brisket with enroll cabbage and mushrooms

I did eat a small bag of skinny popcorn whilst being disappointed at Spurs last night and left the wine in the fridge, but at 9.7 g of carbs shouldn't have knocked we too far out

Summery1 · 02/06/2019 18:45

Mother, I think BiWi has it.

BIWI · 02/06/2019 19:40

I don't think I've ever been hit on, tbh. And at nearly 60 suspect it's not going to happen any time now! (For which I'm very, very grateful).

I've been mostly lurking but doing well so far - started a week late, down 8lbs from 14 stone. But: I think I've developed gastritis and it's really sore. I had acid reflux a few days ago and that's stopped but have this burning pain in my upper stomach now. I want to keep on with this woe because I'm really losing weight and my appetite has disappeared. Any guesses what's going on? Advice?

TheWayOfTheWorld · 02/06/2019 20:07

@AthelstaneTheUnready - ahead of tomorrow's weigh in could you please put in 157lbs in column C against my name? I started a couple of weeks early so it would be v motivating to see that as my starting number Thanks

AthelstaneTheUnready · 02/06/2019 20:24

c'est fait! TWOTW

namechange, I can't help with causes I'm afraid, but the old wives cure really does work on the odd occasion I've needed it - glug back a couple of tablespoons of vinegar (quickly!). Then rinse your mouth with some water since the acid's not great to leave hanging around your teeth.

Cures me within about 20 seconds.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 02/06/2019 20:29

Merci beaucoup @AthelstaneTheUnready Thanks

@m0therofdragons you are clearly way out of their league, they sound quite grim!

namechange5575 · 02/06/2019 20:39

Athelstane - a slurp of white wine vinegar was actually quite tasty! That was a leap of faith, I usually use bicarbonate of soda with acid reflux. Well, my stomach feels better, not normal but better. Thanks. Any other tips also welcome.
