Week 3 - Sumer 19 Low Carb Bootcamp - Bootcamp Light?

BIWI · 27/05/2019 08:09

Morning all. Today sees the start of week 3, which is when you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means you can now introduce some fruit, some nuts and seeds and alcohol in moderation.

Note the bold formatting!

However you don't have to move on to Bootcamp Light if you don't want to. If it's working for you, then by all means stay on Bootcamp. Some people choose to do Bootcamp during the week but take a more relaxed approach at the weekend.

Here are carb counts for fruit - you can see that most of them are pretty high. These are taken from Sainsbury's website and show the amount of carbs per 100g:

Canteloupe melon 4
Raspberries 4.6
Blackberries 5.1
Galia/Honeydew melon 5.3
Passion fruit 5.8
Strawberries 6.1
Watermelon 6.8
Peach 7.5
Plums 8.8
Papaya 8.8
Nectarine 9
Blueberries 9.1
Pineapple 10.1
Kiwi 11
Apples 11.8
Mango 14.1
Lychees 14.3
Grapes 17
Pomegranate seeds 18.7
Banana 23.2

When it comes to nuts and seeds, these too vary widely:

Brazils 3.1
Walnuts 3.3
Pine nuts 4 (but beware - toasted pine nuts are 10)
Macadamias 5.3
Pecans 5.8
Desiccated coconut (technically a fruit!) 6.4
Almonds 6.9 (smoked almonds are 7.7)
Monkey nuts 9.3
Peanuts (salted) 10.9
Fresh coconut (from the chilled cabinet) 15.2
Cashews 18.1

(These carb counts for either salted or unsalted)

Seeds:

Sesame 0.9
Poppy 4.7
Chia 8.6
Pumpkin 15.2
Sunflower 16.4

As far as alcohol is concerned, the best drinks are clear spirits (gin/vodka/whisky/rum) but you need to be careful what mixer you're using. Soda is by far the best option, but if you want something else, you'll need to go down the artificial sweetener route to keep the carbs low.

Dry white wine and Champagne are OK, and red wine. Avoid beer and cider.

Well done everyone! I'm 2.8lb down since last Monday. That's 10.6lb altogether! Someone even asked me if I'd lost weight yesterday.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 27/05/2019 09:14

I was 3lbs down by yesterday morning, but they're all back on again today! I didn't even eat 3lbs worth of food yesterday. Hmm I did drink most of my water late in the day for me though, so perhaps that... perhaps just one of the unknown factors.

Am sure it will vanish again fairly soon, especially as I have a day of digging ahead of me.

venusandmars · 27/05/2019 09:16

0.9lb down, which is fine (after a humungous steak last night so probably too much protein and not enough fat), although it is a lb up on where I've been during the week. I'm very close to target though so little fluctuations make a big difference.

I'll be sticking mostly to BC although I'm away for a couple of days and have a hectic weekend where some of the meals are a bit beyond my control. I will just make the best choices I can, and at least all the arrangements involve travelling and driving so there's no alcohol temptation in there. I'll probably add in some fasting, although when I'm away the breakfast is probably the one thing I can guarantee to be LCHF.

B - sausages, cheese
L - avocado, salad, mayonnaise
D - veg curry

prettybird · 27/05/2019 09:17

Because of last week's required but minimised wine consumption, I'm going to stay on full Boot Camp for another week. Smile

m0therofdragons · 27/05/2019 09:17

Hi @BIWI massive fall from the wagon for many reasons. I think I needed a week off as been strictly following this woe since January boot camp. I've gone full on carbs and yesterday couldn't stop myself eating all day. It has been really out of character.

I'm near target and received lots of nsv as people start noticing and this seems to have triggered self sabotage. But I really want to get under the 10 stone mark so I'm back and focused this week. I can do this!

I'm 3lbs on so this is salvageable.

Well done everyone with losses!

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 27/05/2019 09:29

Morning all, I've been a bit lax at posting or checking in the last few days.
I've stayed the same, although in the week was 3lbs down, haven't had a good weekend. No exercise due to rubbish knee and it's the end of a very hard term, so I pretty much fell into a vat of G and T... Will do better, going to stick to proper bootcamp during the week as much as possible, maybe some mornings I'll fast.
Off to a barbecue today with some complete strangers, they live in the village and we have children the same age, who have hit it off.. So they invited us round today. No idea what the food will be, fingers crossed I can find something.

VeryLittleOwl · 27/05/2019 09:40

+1lb after yesterday's attempt to stablize my stomach by eating some more carby vegetables and lentil soup. I use the Libra app and weigh every morning so it creates a trend line and last week's weights went:
Monday 20th - 11st 5
Tues - 11st 4
Wed - 11st 3
Thur - 11st 4
Fri - 11st 4
Sat - 11st 4
Sun - 11st 4
Today - 11st 6!

  • so I can definitely see clear cause and effect!

Given it was PMT week and I'd normally have gained 2 or 3 pounds, I'm not unhappy about that and I'm going to stay on full bootcamp and just hope that my stomach settles down eventually.

SayrraT · 27/05/2019 09:46

Morning everyone Grin

That's me just officially starting my week 1 so posting planned food for today.

B: coffee with cream, two boiled eggs
L: tuna mayo with Lettuce cups, ff Greek yog, bit of cheese
D: chicken curry with cauliflower rice

IStillMissBlockbuster · 27/05/2019 09:51

Is dairylee ok for a snack?

MumbleLumble · 27/05/2019 09:59

I found a really great pizza recipe from Joe wicks the body coach. Put raw chicken breasts and parmasan into a food processor until it forms a dough, then spread thinly onto a baking tray and out in the oven for 10 mins. Add your toppings and return to the oven again. I'm going to give it a go this week. I'm really missing pizza!

devoncreamtea · 27/05/2019 09:59

Hmmm
I have sts. Never mind. I think my arms are thinner...!!!! I have spent the fortnight trapped in meeting hell hungry and thirsty etc. Will carry on with boot camp proper. Well done all! Flowers

TheWaiting · 27/05/2019 10:15

Morning everyone. 1lb down here for the week which I’m happy with considering my lapse on Friday. I’m going to stay on the first 2wk plan if that’s ok because I don’t feel ready to move onto BCL.
Good luck everyone for week 3!

prettybird · 27/05/2019 10:19

PushkarKali I've made (and like) fathead pizza base Smile Make sure to use block mozzarella and not mozzarella balls in liquid which are too moist. I prefer it to the pizza bases made from cauliflower.

Burnshersmurfs · 27/05/2019 10:27

Motherofdragons- me too. We started around the same time, and (I think) are hovering around the same weight now. I’ve had a dreadful week, and have fallen off the wagon terribly. Does anyone have any good tips for countering the effects of over tiredness and totm?

PushkarKali · 27/05/2019 10:32

Brill, thanks @prettybird. I’m on a mission to make the perfect pizza now!

prettybird · 27/05/2019 10:34

Bake it for longer than you think: I still found it went a bit soggy compared to the very good Italian pizza that I am used to Hmm. But still very tasty!

m0therofdragons · 27/05/2019 10:35

@Burnshersmurfs I'm 10st 3lb (was 10st last Monday). 5'5" tall. I really want to be 9st 4lbs but under 10 is my aim. We're going to Canada for 3 weeks so I want some wiggle room Grin

BIWI · 27/05/2019 10:36

@IStillMissBlockbuster

A couple of things - by now you shouldn't be feeling hungry between meals, so there should be no need to snack. Are you feeling hungry, or is snacking just a habit? And if you are feeling hungry, then this is a sign that you're not eating enough fat.

Second thing - Dairylea is a highly processed product. These are its ingredients:

Skimmed Milk (Water, Skimmed Milk Powder), Cheese, Milk Fat, Whey Powder (from Milk), Inulin, Milk Protein, Skimmed Milk Powder, Emulsifying Salts (Triphosphate, Polyphosphates), Calcium Phosphate, Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid)

And it's 4.7g carb per 100g so not really a good choice.

If you are hungry and want to snack on some cheese, a chunk of ordinary cheddar would be a much better choice.

Morning. I have weighed myself but going to double check on my mums scales later. Not quite sure mine are accurate.

Got a poorly child. One of the girls was complaining Saturday about being hot and she had a raging temperature since. We were supposed to have a couple of friends over yesterday but cancelled as didn't want to expose their toddlers. So we had a quiet day in. At least I've done quite a bit of housework. Looks like the same an for today. Fiddlesticks . What a way to spoil the Bank holiday.

B - bacon
L - salad and prawn cocktail
D- leftover curry- mixed tikka and spinach paneer yum

TheWayOfTheWorld · 27/05/2019 10:42

Well done to all you losers!

I am up 1.2lbs overnight so instead of a 0.6lb loss I have a 0.6lb gain.

This was week 5 for me and luckily I had given myself a talking to earlier in the week when the scales weren't moving and pointed out to myself how my clothes were fitting better, I was feeling less hungry so on and so forth. I reckon my body knows Monday is weigh in day and decides to cling on to whatever it can... Stuck to plan over the weekend (despite the rest of the family having waffles etc). MIL is wonderful and provides a very LCHF friendly lunch yesterday - ham, salad, cheese, eggs, avocado, mayo did me brilliantly.

Cream cheese pancakes for breakfast this morning . Probably will have left over pulled pork with salad for lunch.

I have also taken some pictures to monitor progress. Pair of size 12 cream cropped trousers which "fit" but I would like them to have a bit of give in them and a size 10 dress that I would like to fit less snuggly when I go on holiday in a couple of weeks.

@PushkarKali I've made fathead dough quite a lot - I leave out the egg now, makes it less sticky and I can't really notice the difference in taste of texture.

@prettybird you don't like mushrooms?! I pretty much live on mushrooms fried in butter 😋

@AthelstaneTheUnready are you me? Reckon our scales are conspiring against us Hmm

I've lost 7lbs! Woohoo! It was my week 1, but dont think I've ever lost that much before, even in the first week, i was eating loads of carbs and rubbish before though!

Love this woe! Thanks BIWI Smile

BIWI · 27/05/2019 10:45

I really, also, ought to post the, by now, obligatory warning about weeks 3 and 4!

Be aware that it's very, very common for weight loss to slow down or stop altogether in these two weeks.

If this happens to you, don't panic! Just keep on keeping on and things will get going again from week 5 onwards.

Checking in!

Lost 4lb by Thursday, but have put 2lb back on. Looking at what I’ve been eating, I think I need to look at portion control.

Aiming for the next 2lb this week.

BIWI · 27/05/2019 10:53

Brilliant @starsky22! Star

motherofdragons yes- wriggle room is what I’m chasing too- I’d like to be around 9.7. Don’t know what is the matter with me, but I’m going to get my s**t together this week. Canada is lovely at this time of year, and plenty of good, healthy eating available!
