So here we are!

Lots of us signed up this time, so inevitably the thread will move very quickly. Please, though, take the time to read the whole thread!. Although this is a place where you can post your daily menus, or your thoughts and questions, please don't just do this, but read what other people have posted too.

A bit thank you to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready who has set up the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. Star

The Spreadsheet

If your name isn't on there, don't panic! Just add yourself to the bottom of the list. Don't worry about trying to alphabetise it - that will be sorted out for you. (And if you're on the spreadsheet but don't want to be, don't worry - if you don't post on it your name will be taken off)

Here's a brief recap of the rules:

  1. Eat three proper meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat plenty of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

The full rules are here . They're supposed to be stickied at the top of the Low Carb Bootcamp topic (along with the recipe threads), but for some reason they're stickied at the top of page 2!

Remember that after the first two weeks we can relax some of this, and move on to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can add some fruit (berries mainly), alcohol (in moderation) and nuts and seeds (again, in moderation), but the point of the strict initial phase is to help push your body into burning fat for fuel rather than carbohydrate.

And remember - if you cheat, you will only be delaying this process from happening!

Good luck to everyone. Any questions or problems, just shout! Smile

Yes, as always Flowers Thank you! Flowers to BIWI and Athelstone and anyone else who helps along the way.

Please could someone add me to the spreadsheet as I couldn’t get it to work? 162 lbs.

Ninkaninus · 13/05/2019 10:39

Argh sorry for misspelling/autocorrect/whatever it was! *Athelstane^

BIWI · 13/05/2019 10:43

@tootstastic you have done brilliantly!

I thought I'd share my mother's coleslaw recipe with you. She has been amused to think that her instinctive (and cash-strapped) way of eating in the 60s was fundamentally low-carb. She would make a cabbage into coleslaw on the weekend, and dinner was then omelette and coleslaw.

Anyway, coleslaw keeps well for a week (or a little longer) if you dress it with oil and vinegar (as per BIWIs suggestion), and add mayonaisse to taste at serving.

As well as cabbage and grated carrot, we also like to add finely chopped celery and a pepper - depending on size of the latter it might be one to a 6-8 servings I guess. Personally I don't like raw onion in my coleslaw, but I love it with fresh chives if I have access to them - unfortunately they don't like my current garden very much! I usually add fresh herbs if I have any, or some subset of dried parsley / basil / marjoram / thyme / tarragon if not.

I've currently got some tooth-related dodginess going on which is putting me off eating much salad. Hopefully will get some of it sorted soon!

ilovecherries · 13/05/2019 10:46

bloodybigbabybelly I started bootcamp in May 17 (the 21st, I remember it well :)) and I think I probably listed a weight of 225, but I was lying, I was heavier than that, but it was all I could bring myself to record, I was so ashamed of myself. By sticking to this, day by day, taking small consistent actions, I’m 6 stone lighter and have gone from a dress size 24 to 12. I still turn up to every bootcamp because I like the focus and support. I absolutely understand feeling embarrassed about being one of the heaviest people, (though I don’t know if you are, I haven’t looked), but there is no need for it, many of us will have been wherever you are, and are now recording much lower weights. And you can too :).

tootstastic · 13/05/2019 10:46

Thanks @BIWI, I couldn't have done it without you though. I've been dieting since I was 14 and this is the first time I feel like I've found a long term woe that works for me. You should write a book!

tootstastic · 13/05/2019 10:54

@Bloodybigbabybelly, I'm with @ilovecherries, I was also one of the heaviest on the spreadsheet (still am) when I joined in Oct, but we have to start somewhere and there is no judgement here. I felt so rubbish about myself, but was so inspired by people like @ilovecherries and others who'd lost loads, I hoped that could be me and I've just joined each bootcamp a little bit lighter than the one before. If you just keep going, you'll get there, I promise.

Heartyhooker · 13/05/2019 11:03

@tootstastic you were one of the people who inspired me to start this as I was 18at 2lb seven weeks ago and 10lb down already. Practicality did laps of the living room when I was too full to snack when binge watching alone! ( this never happened before)

Bloodybigbabybelly · 13/05/2019 11:06

@ilovecherries and @tootstastic ty you have both done amazingly. It is good to know it can be done. I just need to figure out how to manage 4.5 litres of water Confused Grin

tootstastic · 13/05/2019 11:06

Aww that's lovely to hear @Heartyhooker and huge well done on the 10lbs, that's a brilliant start! The not hungry thing comes as a shock, doesn't it. Good luck with it, I'll keep an eye on your progress.

tootstastic · 13/05/2019 11:07

@Bloodybigbabybelly yes the water is still a challenge for me, even now. Some days I manage it, others I don't.

PushkarKali · 13/05/2019 11:12

Sorry to be a pain - I'm trying to add myself to the spreadsheet and it's saying that it is protected, and to contact the owner to remove protection. Help please!

bluelefant · 13/05/2019 11:15

Hi everyone!
Glad to be back 😊
I managed to lose 3lbs BB and happy with that.
Funny how this is so psychological.Last night all of the sudden I felt the need to eat chocolate 🍫 even though I had nothing sweet for weeks as I knew I will have to be very strict for the next couple of weeks!
Also had peanuts-and more than recommended amount.A bit annoyed with myself and it just tells me BC just came at perfect time for me.
Going on holiday to see family over the upcoming half term and I hope I can keep to this as much as possible(although MIL will be cooking so might be tricky 😬)

tanya1986 · 13/05/2019 11:17

Thanks BiWi.
Hi all, good luck. Just weighed in at 9st 13lbs slowly started last week to adjust to eating so many meals in one day and lost 3 lbs 😁 I'm very anemic low vit d etc so what would be the best veg etc to eat regular. I only just started eating veg as I dont really like it, but alot I have never tried and just assumed I didn't like. I'm also a massive latte addict and have managed to drop the amount a day and deunk coffee instead. I do drink water but in phases. Well done to the people who have lost so Much weight I really hope I can be thin again. I'm all belly (apple shape I think) I bloat all the time. Sorry for rambling

Good luck all 😁

Eatenalltheeastereggs · 13/05/2019 11:23

Hiya - can i be added to the spreadsheet please? I just tried adding my name immediately underneath the last name on the list but got a prompt saying I couldn't edit the cell and to contact the spreadsheet owner.

Am teepering under the diabetic threshhold for Type 2 (6.8 when the criteria for diagnosis is 7!) and am the heaviest I've ever been. Lost a stone and a half doing the Blood Sugar Diet last year and then got diagnosed with gallstones and am waiting on having my gallbladder removed. Reading up on it I appear to have brought it upon myself by losing weight too quickly. Type 2 wins out in this battle though and I need to seriously stick with it and get weight off quickly. I hold it all round my middle.

Current weight is 14.3 and I would like to get down to 10st 6 but realise that this won't be doable in 10 weeks so my 1st goal is 12st 10. If you want to shorten my name to EatenAll then feel free!

Breakfast so far: 2 scrambled egg with a dollop of Philadelphia folded in and butter

Heartyhooker · 13/05/2019 11:31

@tanya1986 I'm pretty sure mushrooms are high in vitD and that red meat and eggs are the best sources of iron. Or at least the easiest to absorb. Most veg tastes better with butter or bacon

devoncreamtea · 13/05/2019 11:39

Hello everyone,
Looking forward to boot camp! Downloaded app, so on the sof now. Weighed in at 11st 7 this morning.
Had a stressful morning as a tree branch fell on my car and shattered the rear window! Feel a bit wobbly now, but I have not used it as an excuse not to start, which was very tempting!
Had scrambled eggs made with a splash of cream, half avocado and a big mushroom for breakfast. Will have tuna or other fish and salad for lunch and something meat n veg for tea. Attempting water drinking, but 3litres is so much water...!

Off to stick bin bags over my window now until it gets repaired on Wednesday. Hope everyone has a good first day.

Nyon · 13/05/2019 11:59

Note of caution re colesaw seen, @BIWI but mine is homemade so not too bad 👍🏻

AthelstaneTheUnready · 13/05/2019 12:09

All your spreadsheet requests are granted Grin

AthelstaneTheUnready · 13/05/2019 12:12

Just to explain - column D in the spreadsheet is where you record your weight as of today (or whenever you start).

Column C is only there so that those who started early, or did previous Bootcamps, can record the total progress they've made since they began.

If you just want to record progress as of today, then put your weight in Column D and I'll autofill column C so that your calculations make sense!

Rayna37 · 13/05/2019 12:43

Solidarity with everyone making endless loo trips. I know drinking more water works though, it's one of the main things I drop when I'm not actively bootcamping and you can soon see the difference.

B: 2 eggs scrambled with butter (work day default choice)
snack of olives
L: Mozzarella with a bit of pesto and big salad of romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumber, lots of oil. I've given up making dressing, found I'm just as happy with oil and no need to faff with the vinegar and mustard I used to add. Had forgotten how nice the good buffalo mozzarella is! Following with some Yeo Valley kefir yogurt, won't buy again as it's way too carby (6.4g) but I made a batch of my own yogurt should last the rest of the week.
D: salmon, green veg (possibly green beans, leeks, asparagus).

Ninkaninus · 13/05/2019 12:50

Had a good lunch - omelette with courgette, mushroom, spring onion, one slice of ham cut up (we only had two eggs for the two of us so I added that in for a little more protein), little bit of cheddar, plus lots of parsley. He had his on a piece of toast, I had mine on it’s own.

I feel positive now and ready to get things done today!

RightYesButNo · 13/05/2019 12:57

Er, does anyone else have a headache? Could this just be from cutting out the carbs and sugar? I know I was pretty much living on carbs before, so it’s a big change.

Ninkaninus · 13/05/2019 12:59

Headache will be carb flu. Withdrawals, basically.

Drink more water, and also a cup of bovril or bouillon will help.
