So here we are!

Lots of us signed up this time, so inevitably the thread will move very quickly. Please, though, take the time to read the whole thread!. Although this is a place where you can post your daily menus, or your thoughts and questions, please don't just do this, but read what other people have posted too.

A bit thank you to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready who has set up the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. Star

The Spreadsheet

If your name isn't on there, don't panic! Just add yourself to the bottom of the list. Don't worry about trying to alphabetise it - that will be sorted out for you. (And if you're on the spreadsheet but don't want to be, don't worry - if you don't post on it your name will be taken off)

Here's a brief recap of the rules:

  1. Eat three proper meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat plenty of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

The full rules are here . They're supposed to be stickied at the top of the Low Carb Bootcamp topic (along with the recipe threads), but for some reason they're stickied at the top of page 2!

Remember that after the first two weeks we can relax some of this, and move on to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can add some fruit (berries mainly), alcohol (in moderation) and nuts and seeds (again, in moderation), but the point of the strict initial phase is to help push your body into burning fat for fuel rather than carbohydrate.

And remember - if you cheat, you will only be delaying this process from happening!

Good luck to everyone. Any questions or problems, just shout! Smile

Bloody sounds fair game if he left his chicken thighs unattended :)

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/05/2019 20:51

Thanks for the mixed metaphors, Wheely, they look lovely together Grin Flowers

Have found my grip and will be exercising it daily.

BIWI · 14/05/2019 20:51

@Eatenalltheeastereggs There isn't anything on Pinterest, but there are lots of recipes stickied in the Low Carb Bootcamp topic to make it easier for people to find them.

If you really are suffering so badly from carb flu get yourself some Zero tabs by High5. . They'll really help you sort out the electrolyte imbalance

@HypatiaCade constant thirst if you're drinking a lot of water apparently means you need more salt. Are you using it on your food and in your cooking?

OP posts:
prettybird · 14/05/2019 20:54

Eatenalltheeggs - there are Boot Camp recipe threads pinned to the top of the MN BootCamp topic - now helpfully divided into "meat", "fish", "vegetarian" and "desserts and other treats" for after the first 2 weeks (can't remember the exact headings). There are some great recipe ideas Smile

BIWI · 14/05/2019 20:54

@Notlostjustexploring well, Sainsbury's sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil are a whopping 17.9g per 100g! So if you're going to use them, go easy.

BIWI · 14/05/2019 20:58

@TheWaiting - there really is no need to count carbs on Bootcamp!

There's no set limit, but the figure of 20g generally comes from the Atkins diet, where that amount is the daily limit in induction, the first two weeks of the diet.

We don't count carbs on Bootcamp because it's supposed to be for lazy arses make it easier to follow. As long as you follow the rules you will be fine. It's only if you really aren't losing that you might want to start counting.

The other issue here is that there's no one set limit that we can recommend, because everyone tolerates carbs differently. Some people can lose weight while eating a relatively high level whereas others have to keep their carbs really low.

Thanks .Athelstane. And yes, it’s now plugged in! 👍

BIWI · 14/05/2019 21:00

@Bloodybigbabybelly brilliant! I love crispy chicken skin. Fortunately no-one else does, so it's always mine Grin

Quite impressed with myself - made a mushroom risotto type thing which is lovely.

Cauliflower rice sautéed in butter with salt and shallots; removed from heat and did the same with mushrooms. Added the cauliflower back in and then combined with a splosh of cream. Having it with some chicken.

Hefzi · 14/05/2019 21:01

Veggie fistbump of solidarity, @mightywings! I found some (more) asparagus on special offer tonight, so that's breakfast tomorrow sorted. There probably is something yummier than British asparagus, but right now, I can't visualise it. Plus, the season is so short there's no time to get bored of having it at every meal with chunks of butter

BIWI · 14/05/2019 21:02

@AthelstaneTheUnready. Do I have to get The Big Stick out again?!

OP posts:
TheWaiting · 14/05/2019 21:04

Thanks BIWI! I’m going to stay away from the bars, even if they do claim to be ‘Keto friendly’. Eating the double cream felt so alien and scary when trying to lose weight. It was left over from the Keto cauliflower (which was yummy with lots of black pepper) Somehow, cooking with it felt less scary than eating it in a bowl.
Onwards and upwards tomorrow!

Youwanapizzame · 14/05/2019 21:04

Ha ha @stuntnun it wasn't a special fruit T bag. Just a standard berry tea from Aldi. Cant bear fruit tea though but my colleague started using them in cold water and I tried it. Very nice!

OMG I couldn't finish my dinner either. We had a version of cauli/broccoli cheese with cod and mine had prawns. With roasted veg. Got more for tomorrow :)

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/05/2019 21:06

Evening, BIWI, had a good day? Smile

Youwanapizzame · 14/05/2019 21:12

Of I did slightly mess up but I blame the husbot and the toddler's and the people who make pork pie pastry so tasty.... thank God I realised after only a small bit.... 😱😖

prettybird · 14/05/2019 21:43

Athelstane - I'm not admitting how far off the wagon I fell Blush

But we can both get back on together Smile

I might even weigh myself tomorrow Shock am still in denial as to how much of the progress I had made has been undone Blush

HypatiaCade · 14/05/2019 22:01

BIWI - I have been adding a bit of salt, but possibly not enough. I haven't been thirsty to the point of drinking excessively, just enough to drink what I'm aiming for. Usually I struggle to drink much water at all, but it's been easy today, because my thirst has prompted me, IYSWIM.

SummerSazz · 14/05/2019 22:13

I've made it back into the room!!!

So, was down to 11.2 last boot camp completely failed on BBC losses and last thurs was still 11.2 😇. However had a weekend away which was a blast and was plied with carbs so weighed in yesterday at 11.7 😮😮😮 (+5!!!) 😮😮😮

Today was down to 11.3 so I am taking that as my start weight and want to get to 10.7 which is within 'normal' 🤔 BMI. I have holidays starting in June so the focus is on 👙

Welcome to all newbies - it's a fab woe and I've lost 1 stone 2 since New Year and kept it off despite not always being 100% strict but making up with fasting and water to balance out the indiscretions. I do Pilates, running and swimming and a fair amount of walking to try and keep toned whilst losing weight but it really is more about the food and no carb creep.....

Fasted till 1pm
Beef & horseradish salad with homemade coleslaw for lunch
Salami snack
BBQ (chicken kebab and burger) with wild garlic mayo and salad

Aiming for 18:6 fasting this week for eliminating the weekend transgressions a new downward kickstart

m0therofdragons · 14/05/2019 22:31

Had a lovely omelette with lettuce and creamy dressing. Have avoided a binge (too tired to walk to the kitchen). Really looking forward to seeing results from week one - my lack of patience has continued! One minute I'm all "yay, I've lost 1st 7lbs" then I switch to "why haven't I lost more?"

Looking forward to berries in 2 weeks!

ChippingInLowCarbing · 14/05/2019 22:34

BIWI she was pure bloody evil wasn’t she! Some of the others I’ve seen since haven’t been any better, but some of them are lovely. One chatted ‘off the record’ for ages because her son had just been diagnosed and she wanted to know how I’d done it without meds. So I told her about MN, Bootcamp and Briffa. I ordered another Briffa book and took it down to her. We emailed for quite a while and her son got his back within normal. She still had to parrot the bollocks the NHS was saying (3 Carby meals a day) and she wasn’t allowed to suggest or promote low Madness.

felippertyfeck · 14/05/2019 22:37

Today hasn’t turned out as planned! B. 1 Avocado L. 2 x pickled eggs straight from the jar !! D. 1 x Avocado and a few olives. Now sat in bead reading all the posts about your lovely meals and tummy gurgling ! Must do better tomorrow :) Also just managed 3 litres of water, quite hard to drink so much. I don’t know how I’m going to manage 4 litres without living in the toilet! Day three here we come

BIWI · 14/05/2019 22:40

Hopefully @felippertfeck you'll be better organised for tomorrow, so will be able to be eat a bit more than that?!

athelstane

...Need a serious word with myself about childish, rebellious reactions to the word 'no'

Errr...let’s just say you’re not alone!

I always think about the bic pen story. Bic pens are crap, no one likes them, you haven’t used one in over a decade - you’d rather write with your own blood. You’re told you’re never allowed to use one again.

What’s the ONLY thing you really want?

🙄😬

I find ‘I’m not having that now/today’ and not thinking too far ahead helps a bit.

Tomorrow is another day, put your Carby Twat behaviour behind you and low carb on 😊

MrsBertBibby · 14/05/2019 23:03

B : bits of gruyere and a couple of those quorn roast chicken fillets (1.9g/100, iirc)
L : Edam slices rolled around a little coleslaw for the crunch
D : omelette with spinach, shallot, mushies and goats cheese.

Quite a lot of water and black earl grey.

The bastards in my office have taken to leaving a box of biscuits open on a desk all day. FFS. Also, toasters just shouldn't be allowed.
