So here we are!

Lots of us signed up this time, so inevitably the thread will move very quickly. Please, though, take the time to read the whole thread!. Although this is a place where you can post your daily menus, or your thoughts and questions, please don't just do this, but read what other people have posted too.

A bit thank you to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready who has set up the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. Star

The Spreadsheet

If your name isn't on there, don't panic! Just add yourself to the bottom of the list. Don't worry about trying to alphabetise it - that will be sorted out for you. (And if you're on the spreadsheet but don't want to be, don't worry - if you don't post on it your name will be taken off)

Here's a brief recap of the rules:

  1. Eat three proper meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat plenty of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

The full rules are here . They're supposed to be stickied at the top of the Low Carb Bootcamp topic (along with the recipe threads), but for some reason they're stickied at the top of page 2!

Remember that after the first two weeks we can relax some of this, and move on to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can add some fruit (berries mainly), alcohol (in moderation) and nuts and seeds (again, in moderation), but the point of the strict initial phase is to help push your body into burning fat for fuel rather than carbohydrate.

And remember - if you cheat, you will only be delaying this process from happening!

Good luck to everyone. Any questions or problems, just shout! Smile

@MightyWings - I see, catching up with other posts, that you are a veggie, so sorry for taking you to task about the nuts and Quorn! Blush

@Youcantscaremeihavechildren ow, ow, ow! Hope you make a swift recovery and that you've not badly damaged anything.

Re your mum's scales - really don't bother. Everyone's scales are different so it's much better to weigh always on the same ones. It's the change you're really interested in.

Lunch was a large 3 egg omelette with mushrooms, bacon, chorizo, cheddar and Parmesan Shockit was very good!

So dinner was lighter of courgetti and mushrooms with a bit of double cream and garlic.

Wine is featuring heavily in my thoughts. When I resist wine I want to snack! Trying to ignore both thoughts as I'm not hungry!

Almahart · 14/05/2019 19:28

I had a very boot camp day

Breakfast was Boursin wrapped in ham with cucumber

Lunch was spinach soup with cheese

Dinner will be cauliflower cheese made with cream and a couple of sausages

Heartyhooker · 14/05/2019 19:30

@Youcantscaremeihavechildren, hope bumps are subsiding a little now.
B f2f Greek yoghurt
L asparagus, boiled eggs and halumi with melted butter
T Bolognese and roast cauliflower and creamy coffee.
Managing my 4.5 lit res of water though am counting my butter mint tea.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 14/05/2019 19:33

Thanks all. My hands are stinging like a bastard and I can't bend my knee, but hey. More annoyed this will put paid to my ideas of doing workouts in the mornings, including yoga..
Im going to ignore her scales then, I had drunks lots of water and peed it out
I'm hoping this time round I can stick to the WOE properly, with no slip ups and finally lose the last half stone I keep hanging on to. I don't have much to lose by numbers but I'm very short and although a healthy bmi, just, I really can feel there's load of fat round my middle. Hoping my skin will improve too, it usually does. Not looking forward to the mad periods though, I kept getting them one after the other last time.

StuntNun · 14/05/2019 19:37

TheWaiting how about olives, hard-boiled eggs, cheese as snacks?

IStillMissBlockbuster · 14/05/2019 19:40

Hello everyone. I am starting off ok. Avoiding the office biscuits - of which there are always tempting biscuits available nearby all the time. Has previously been impossible for me but not really hard this time thankfully! So far anyway.

So breakfast egg cup things. Not the best, probably need more cheese or some chorizo or something for flavour.

My lunch salad is shit. I really have never liked salad Grin I don't know why I thought this time would be different! I am therefore not eating all of it, so i'm going to add a chicken leg to it.

Dinner is yumtastic. Chicken veg traybake plus a side of aubergine parmigiana. I have to go out for dinner both tomorrow and friday which is a tough one. I imagine I can have steak and veg for at least one.

prettybird · 14/05/2019 19:48

I'm having my family favourite home made pork burgers ( not so secret ingredient to make them special: worcestershire sauce Wink) for supper tonight as ds is now home from Uni and loves them.

While I'm trying to lose weight, he is desperately trying to put weight on Confused It's not fair Wink

Dh and ds will have chips and I'll have mange touts and salad.

Eatenalltheeastereggs · 14/05/2019 19:51

Seems I’m not alone in teepering into Type 2! I finally succumbed to the statins which reduced my cholesterol from 7 to 3.5 in a month to my Drs delight. She’s been suggesting it might be a good idea for a few years but I’ve always said I’ll just get my weight down but haven’t. I’ve also read some books on how high cholesterol ain’t a bad thing but caved when my DSis had a stroke last year and my brother had one the year before (skinny as a rake too). I really really need to get healthier!

So today:
B: whole avocado, feta, salad leaves, cherry tomatoes, Iceland cheesy coleslaw (3.4g carb per 100g), 6 slices of Milano salmi
L: a Broghie (spotted today in Iceland 4g carb per Broghie) Cheese coleslaw, 2 slices salami and Philadelphia Light cream cheese
D: salad leaves, feta, cherry toms, prawns & mayo
2.1l of water so far
Snacks: coffee with milk ( in Costa, tried it black but couldn’t drink it - left half because even with milk it tasted too strong without my usual half a teaspoon of sugar)
Not too bad. I can barely climb the stairs though and know I’ll be in bed by 10 because I always suffer badly from carb flu and it takes AGES to go away for me. I also tend to get mega cramp in my calves on lo carb but I’m aiming to have an avocado everyday and loads of spinach too. Also adding salt to as much as I can.
Thanks again BIWI for all your hard work! Is there a Mumsnet Bootcamp Pinterest board for the recipes? Or would that maybe compromise anonymity and all that jazz??

NLisa · 14/05/2019 19:53

I had a good day today regarding food. I had 2 litres of water but I am still thirsty so I need to up the water tomorrow.

B: scrambled eggs with sausage
L: spinach salad with green veg and chicken breast.
D: sausage with swede mash

TheWaiting · 14/05/2019 19:57

Thank you, StuntNun, I’ve just picked up some olives and feta cheese. 👍

Quick question: I’m still very full after the snack of Keto bar and double cream. Should I still eat dinner of chicken salad?

HypatiaCade · 14/05/2019 19:58

Youcantscaremeihavechildren - Ouch, you poor thing! Hope you feel better soon.

Feeling very virtuous today:
B: Fried ham and mushrooms and scrambled eggs
L: Leaf salad with tuna, mayonnaise, boiled egg, halloumi
D: Chicken & Avocado with bacon on cauliflower rice

Drinking has been really easy today, I've felt really thirsty all day. Is that part of the carb/sugar withdrawal? Or have I just been misinterpreting early thirsty signals and snacking on junk with a cup or tea up until now?!

Notlostjustexploring · 14/05/2019 19:59

My lunch salad is shit. I really have never liked salad

"Traditional salad" I agree is a bit shit. Who wants to chew on a lettuce leaf?

A salad done the low carb way can be a thing of beauty. Loads of crumbly feta, avocado, crispy bacon, loads of lovely thick creamy Caesar dressing, sliced olives. I love low carb salads. My salads are now EPIC and are subject to much lunchtime envy.

Asparagus and prosciutto works well in the egg cups. So do sun dried tomatoes (only a wee bit, just enough for flavouring, maybe 3 for an entire batch...?) Or are the sun dried tomatoes a complete no on bootcamp? Awaits BIWI judgement....

TheWaiting · 14/05/2019 20:02

Can someone have a quick look and say if this balance is ok or too skewed?
Is 39g of carbs too high? In my head it should be 20g but I’m not sure where I read that.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 14/05/2019 20:09

Thanks, I definitely need to put more effort in to my salads. I am a difficult one though as I don't like Avocado. Sacrilege in know!

TheWaiting · 14/05/2019 20:13

Ha IStillMissBlockbuster, I feel the same because I can’t eat eggs! Grin

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 14/05/2019 20:14

I couldn't finish my dinner. That NEVER happens to me. Shock

I'm going to have the left asparagus tomorrow - as "soldiers" to dip in soft-boiled eggs. Grin

RocketPockets · 14/05/2019 20:25

So we got invited to a BBQ, I picked up some 97% heck sausages and some chicken to have! Delicious!
Also had a lovely salad, spinach, watercress, spring onions & peppers.
Have almost hit my target with water as well Smile

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/05/2019 20:42

Well I have made a disastrous start to BC. Whatever the opposite to BC is, that's what I've had. Everything off BIWI's naughty list. Except the vegetables. unless you count an entire jar of branston

Need a serious word with myself about childish, rebellious reactions to the word 'no'.

Sigh. Onwards and upwards. Starting again tonight, have sunk all the water and there is no more bread, alcohol, crisps, or pastry in the house. Except the ones still resting in my stomach.

Bah.

WheelyCote · 14/05/2019 20:42

Hope everyones getting on ok! I

For tea i had a courgette spirospaghetti in creme fraiche gatlic and chilli sauce with chopped bacon (meant to be pancetta) and prawns with some left over salady rocket

I made the same sauce then seperated some for wheelyteens and added linguine for them and in my portion mixed in the spirocourgette. Worked alright.

You can add chicken instead of prawns.

Creme fraiche was 5.9g carb and 18.9g fat.

The courgettespiro worked really well and just used something that looked like a small cone with a serated edge. Only a couple of quid from tesco.

Thinking of doing the courgette spiro thing again tomorrow but will mix with sacla pesto, thats in the cupboard. Fingers crossed its low carb enough

Bloodybigbabybelly · 14/05/2019 20:43

Is it wrong that I stole all of the skin off of my husband's chicken thighs Blush I told him it's because he's not on a diet Grin
Just guzzled the last of my 4.5 litres of water, I feel all swooshy.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/05/2019 20:43

Waiting, that looks pretty darned excellent to me! You might want to up the protein and down the carbs a bit. And charge your phone.

WheelyCote · 14/05/2019 20:46

Athelstane dont be too hard on yourself! Your usually so on it...this blip just means your human.
Get back on that horse and knock it out the park now!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 14/05/2019 20:47

Baby, that is the BEST bit of chicken - will do wonders for your skin. Put him on a diet and you'd be fighting over it, so best he has a potato, and you have the skin. Halo
