Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - already a month!

Morning all.

Here's the Spreadsheet

The link should open on the rules rather than just the spreadsheet because I rather think some of you need a reminder!

@Dia12 - you asked about water. Do you not know how much you should be drinking? If you don't know, then that tells me that you haven't read (or remembered) the rules!

Seriously - drinking the water is really important. That's why it's one of the rules.

So we're in week 4 - remember, this one has a reputation (along with its evil twin week 3) for being a week where weight loss is limited or even unlikely. Don't despair if you don't see any loss this week. As long as you're following the rules, you will be fine.

And remember - it's not all about the scales! Take your measurements, or try on something that was too tight a month ago, and you'll get a much more realistic idea about your progress.

I'm away for the next three days, visiting my best friend, so don't really know a) what's going to happen on the food front and b) how often I'll be able to post. I should have wifi on the train, but after that - who knows! I'm travelling first class though, so looking forward to my fried breakfast this morning.

I hope you all have a very good week.

@venusandmars I started to read that as your proposed lunch menu and was a bit Confused at half an avocado as a starter Grin

(the real lunch menu sounds delicious)

My scales are mocking me. 2lbs down overnight...contrary bastards. I was much better with water yesterday, though, so there might be something in that...

BIWI · 05/02/2019 08:04

Who would have thought it @now look, eh ... Wink

@Mimosa1 looking at the big picture is definitely the way to go. I've lost around 2 stones since October and my rate of loss is usually only a pound or two a week at the most, and sometimes none at all (or even a few pounds up!). The way I look at it is that slow loss is the best because it lets your skin adapt so it won't be so loose and it gives your body time to make a permanent change.

Haworthia · 05/02/2019 08:24

I’m up another 1.6lbs overnight. I’ve been gaining and losing the same couple of pounds for nearly two weeks. So annoying!

Rshard · 05/02/2019 08:51

i did that in the last boot camp @haworthia, so frustrating

Yesterday’s food
B - buttery scrambled eggs avo
L - Greek salad chicken
D - tuna pate, cucumber, Greek yoghurt berries

BIWI · 05/02/2019 08:54

@Haworthia

List out your food and drink for the last few days, and let's see if we can identify any issues

Nyon · 05/02/2019 08:59

You and me both, @Haworthia. Getting really fed up! I think however there’s a chance I’m not getting enough fat in so I’m attempting to up that. Frustrating though (especially when I did lose two lbs at the weekend that then rea-bloody-ppeared Monday weigh in!)

Haworthia · 05/02/2019 09:20

It could definitely be that I’m not getting enough fat @Nyon. Two litres of water is a battle I’m losing daily too. It’s ok when I’m at home, but when I’m out I don’t bother taking my water with me because I know I won’t drink it, because I don’t want to have to find a public toilet.

Yesterday’s food:

B - coffee with almond milk
L - chicken mini fillets with tikka marinade (around 2.5-3g carbs per 100g), asparagus, butter
S - few ham and cheese slices, 10g of 70% chocolate with some double cream
D - leftover roast lamb curry (made with lazy jar sauce, 5.2g carbs per 100g)

I did also have three glasses of wine on Sunday - say it isn’t that Grin

StuntNun · 05/02/2019 09:36

Haworthia it might be worth trying electrolytes in your water to improve the absorption. After the first few weeks of Bootcamp you shouldn't be needing to pee all the time anymore.

TescoValue · 05/02/2019 10:44

Week 3 for me went out the window. Definitely drank too much at centerparcs, and everyone got ill too, topped off by being snowed in and not allowed to leave the parc! So right now I'm half a lb from where I started but 4 and a half lbs from where I was this time last month. 1lb a week isn't looking too bad and is definitely the right direction. Just did a £100 food shop though so back on it with loads of fresh food to eat.

Weirdly I am always the one to get sick, but when everyone else got it I didn't. And my period was only 3 days. I wonder if it's the food!

WhatTheFronti · 05/02/2019 10:57

Hi all! I have just caught up reading thread. Have been absent since last weeks gastro (potentially food poisoning) chaos.

I weighed in on Monday at much the same weight as previous week - I'm not surprised. I kept to lchf but did not manage to eat a whole lot (no appetite at all whilst dealing with sick children) I am very pleased with myself for not straying from this WOE tho. I also had 2 x NSV in that I tried on and fit into a jacket I have had since I was 18 ( and is a large motivation for continuing) and my sons teacher commented that I looked fabulous 'these days' - made me blush (and grateful someone has noticed!!!)

I have bought a crockpot multi cooker and it is fab for lc meals ( plus doesn't heat up my kitchen!!) made and ate beef chili ( topped with lots of lovely avocado, cheese, jalapeños etc)

@MrsKoala I hope you are ok 💐Re the lump in your throat - I hope it's not but watch out it doesn't turn to quinsy (abscess). I had a bout of tonsillitis 18 months ago - turned into quinsy - I had no idea what it was, ended up being medi vac in a ambulance helicopter due to restricted airway it just escalated so quickly! Please be careful and be much more sensible than I and present early. They are seriously nasty!!!!

MrsKoala · 05/02/2019 11:10

I am off to the doctor now as it's got worse over night. No breakfast and I can hardly sip water (i'm having to spit my saliva out as I can't even swallow that - sorry tmi!!). feeling faint and my stomach is inside out empty and getting pins and needles in my hands and feet.

Notlostjustexploring · 05/02/2019 11:15

I think the food has to help. A rotten cold whipped round our house pretty much flooring everyone else, but despite the fact I'm still doing night wakings etc with 8 week old, I still felt much better than my husband and I never really felt that bad. It makes sense, sugar contributes to inflammation etc, so if your body isn't getting that, it heals faster? Also, eating all that veg can only help an immune system!!!

MrsKoala · 05/02/2019 11:16

OMG Quinsy sounds horrible. You poor thing. I'm sure mines just a bog standard viral thing. Not really sure what the dr can do tho. Thinking of making some kind of soft casserole or soup for dinner. Not sure yet.

Notlostjustexploring · 05/02/2019 11:17

MrsKoala that sounds rotten. Tonsillitis really can be quite the bugger. Hopefully you get some good antibiotics and you'll be on your feet again shortly.

MrsKoala · 05/02/2019 12:43

Thanks. She said it was pretty infected, very swollen and sore and gave me 10 days of antibiotics and some painkillers. She reckons I should be swallowing within 48 hrs and suggested a lot of ice cream in the meantime. :(

Going to try some warm chicken stock and cream.

Notlostjustexploring · 05/02/2019 12:52

If you haven't tried them, get someone to pick up some tyrozets from the chemist. No idea of carb count, but they might soothe your throat enough to get some water down you? Highly recommend them!

MrsKoala · 05/02/2019 13:07

Thanks. Mum got me some stuff called dequadin yesterday.

It's my birthday on Thursday, so that will be fun and we are having a Chinese new year party on Saturday. So I have to cook for that.

Does anyone have any good low carb Chinese recipes. I was thinking some kind of lamb braised in star anise - the only thing is my recipes all have corn flour in.

WhatTheFronti · 05/02/2019 13:10

@MrsKoala hope you're feeling well soon!

nowlook · 05/02/2019 13:32

@MrsKoala hope you're on the mend soon!

I'd have thought a Szechuan dish would be your best bet. Idea for sauce here

m0therofdragons · 05/02/2019 13:45

@MrsKoala sounds horrible. Look after yourself!

Breakfast - Greek yoghurt and blue berries
Lunch - spinach and broccoli with cream soup
Dinner - bacon and egg

ShagMeRiggins · 05/02/2019 13:57

Flowers MrsKoala

1Wildheartsease · 05/02/2019 14:01

whipped frozen cream/greek yogurt might feel good MrsKoala.

Hope you are better very soon.

1stMrsF · 05/02/2019 14:08

@MrsKoala get well soon. Tonsillitis is awful. I used to get it every winter in my 20s and early 30s but seem to have 'grown out of it'!

Was so sick of salad for lunch that I ate the school dinner thinking it wasn't too bad (beef in black bean sauce and pak choi) but the pak choi was swimming in sweet chilli and the whole thing tasted very sugary Sad
Have shepherd's pie with swede topping and added spinach for dinner
Weighloss has really levelled off on my graph, which I'm finding difficult to look. But wearing trousers today that feel curiously looser.

Rshard · 05/02/2019 14:18

Hope you feel better soon @mrskoala
