I love this week - when we find out how much people have lost, and all those of you who haven't really believed it will work are proved wrong!

Here's the spreadsheet

I hope that the scales have been kind to you, or that your measurements have gone down and your clothes are feeling looser!

I look forward to hearing about everyone's progress.

Here's to a great week 2 as well

I've eaten loads of celeriac and it never has a negative effect Smile

Haworthia · 21/01/2019 20:35

I’ve felt good today, and have once found myself staring at biscuits longingly. That’s progress, right? Wink

Rshard · 21/01/2019 20:40

I’m really enjoying the board being so busy, lots of positivity and meal ideas.

B - scrambled eggs avo
L - Greek salad chicken mayo
D - bacon and eggs

Might lay off the eggs tomorrow but they were a quick and convenient option tonight.

Mimosa1 · 21/01/2019 20:49

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the poster who posted about lactose free milk. It tastes exactly the same and my sacred cups of tea are safe! I've been having almond milk in my coffee at work and that's been fine but I neeeed a milky tea in the mornings.

For those of you who occasionally fancy a takeout on this woe, and live near a Chilango, I've just had a Chilango low carb box, delivered by Deliveroo. I recommend it - I had guacamole, salads, salsa and chicken. The portion size is a bit small but it's really delicious.

I worked out my BMI today and just let's say I've got a way to go but I feel in the zone. I love all the inspiration and ideas from this thread. Thanks all, especially @BIWI and @AthelstaneTheUnready

Doilooklikeatourist · 21/01/2019 21:00

Feeling a bit hungry this evening , and I’m not sure why
Having a lemon and ginger tea, see if that helps
B 2poached eggs , grilled bacon and avocado with olive oil
L celery sticks , cheddar and olives
D pork in coconut and ginger ( delicious , it’s on the recipes on here ) stir fried spinach , broccoli , cauli and mushrooms with some of the bare naked noodles
Had a nice day ✅

LostaraYil · 21/01/2019 21:06

Congratulations on all your losses and than you all for the support an ideas! I have lost 2.5lb, which is amazing for me. Today I could also feel the appetite suppressant effect kicking in, I had to force myself to eat some lunch and could only manage a few bites.

B - creamy coffee
L - salad and ham (didn't eat much of it so I had a small snack after work)
Snack - cheese and pickled cucumber
D - sausages and salad
I already don't have breakfast apart from the coffee, and I'm kind of tempted to stop having lunch as well until I get home (between 4 and 5pm). Is it too early to drop lunch at this point and is it too long a gap without eating?

Collectorofcookbooks · 21/01/2019 21:12

Had my first cauliflower rice tonight - a revelation!

Plus, DH managed to lay his hands on a celeriac. Just need to figure out what to do with the bugger now.

BIWI · 21/01/2019 21:23

@nowlook

Lots of fat today, might need to scale back tomorrow!

No don't! Fat is good!

@Cheeseandapple

B - almond porridge (made with ground almond & coconut milk).

Er - no nuts in the first two weeks of Bootcamp! (Or are you veggie? Can't remember - apologies if you are and I've forgotten). Also, did you not see the carb count of coconut milk that I posted yesterday? That is likely to have been a very carby breakfast.

@TescoValue Sainsbury's website shows celeriac at 2.2g carbs per 100g

@Doilooklikeatourist - if you're hungry then it's a sign you haven't been earring enough, and/or enough fat.

@LostaraYil Where's your breakfast? Why aren't you eating it? Yes, it's too long at this stage to go without eating!

@Collectorofcookbooks go and have a look at the recipe threads - there are lots of recipes there for celeriac

3lb off for me this week. Not amazing but I was very good over Xmas, running every day and managed to not pile on any pounds so not so many to lose iyswim?

I am away from weds - tues with hotel stay, big dinners etc so will be a challenge. I shall do my best and not beat myself up if I don't lose much.

Cheese and marmite bites sound A M A Z I N G!!!!

Well done to all the losers but also to everyone just trying to give it a go, keep on track - the results will come, some faster, some slower. We are all on our own journeys Smile

Someone mentioned Jillian Michaels - I've done lots of her shred workouts and they are a great length - not too much time to have to invest but enough to make a difference. I'm currently doing Pilates at 6am and the sculpting nature of it fits well with LCHF I think. Def helps to feel the difference.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 21/01/2019 21:41

2ish, nearly 3lbs off in my first week, happy with that. Had a not perfect weekend as it was DHs birthday and now I'm alone at home with the kids until Saturday, got to try to make myself eat well, I'm not great when only cooking for myself, and the kids who are v picky.
Think people were talking about carb counts in milk, Aldi own brand uht soya is virtually free of carbs I think, less than 0.5 per 100grams. I find it's better in coffee and tea.
Aim for this week, drink more water. I would love to get down to under 130lbs, I'm
very short and very heavy round the waist and hips, would like to lose some of that, think it might help with my back pain
Although exercise is going to be tricky this week as I can't get out for a run till Saturday now.

Cheeseandapple · 21/01/2019 21:43

@BIWI argh! I would have read your coconut post because I'm trying to read each post through the day but it must not have gone in. I am vegetarian (phew 😅). I actually didn't enjoy the porridge all that much but might try again with a different liquid. I bought soya milk today- does anyone know if that would be any good? I'll try it later this week and report back for anyone tired of eggy breakfast. I put a few cardamom pods in and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Felt very luxurious!

BIWI · 21/01/2019 21:58

Here's the post about plant-based milks: @Cheeseandapple

Re non-dairy milks, thought it might be helpful to give you some carb counts.

Based on Plenish (which uses the fewest possible ingredients)

Organic Almond = 0.4g carbs per 100ml
Organic Cashew = 1.1g carbs per 100ml
Organic Coconut = 11.2g carbs per 100ml according to Sainsbury's website, but 7.9g according to their own website (shock)

Alpro:

Soy milk = 2.5g per 100ml (fresh - 3.0g if you buy UHT)
Coconut milk = 2.7g per 100ml (fresh)
Rice milk = 9.5g per 100ml(UHT)
Oat milk = 6.8g per 100m (UHT)

Compare this with dairy milk:

Sainsbury's organic whole milk = 4.5g per 100ml
Sainsbury's organic semi-skimmed = 4.6g per 100ml
Sainsbury's organic skimmed = 5.0g per 100ml

The other moral of this story - don't assume that plant-based milks are better than dairy milk from the point of view of their carb count

DH brought back those Japanese ice cream balls tonight I smelled one.

The good thing about this WOE is that I feel like cheating just ruins the whole thing, which means no cheating. Which is, in fact, easier in a way.

StuntNun · 22/01/2019 06:47

Collector celeriac makes amazing mash. I use it to make low carb cottage pie.

WhatThreeWords · 22/01/2019 06:50

Forgot to post yesterday
B: leftover endive gratin
L: Leftover slow cooker beef brisket, with salad
D: instant pot chicken thighs, roast peppers, courgette, cauliflower, kale
E: yoga

Having just a dash of milk in 1 coffee a day. The water drinking is making such a difference. But my sleep isn’t good.

This was my first time cooking in an Instant Pot and it was really amazing! Perfect chicken thighs. So moist and tummy. Sauté in the pot for maybe 5 minutes, lid on, pressure built over a couple of mins and then they took 12 minutes to fully cook!

ChangoMutney · 22/01/2019 07:54

I’m 8lbs down, which is amazing. I’m sorry that I posted my loss a couple of days early, I wasn’t thinking properly.

Last night cooked a roasted chicken with carrots, wilted spinach and celeriac wedges which I’d rubbed coconut oil and Spanish seasoning into. Dh and DS are fairly unadventurous but DH loved both the spinach and the celeriac and DD said it was the best meal she’s had in ages. I’m so chuffed.

Thank you so much for all your hard work @BIWI. Have you seen The Magic Pill documentary on Netflix? About low carb, slightly more paleo but really interesting.

AandL · 22/01/2019 08:20

Thanks for poster upthread for the bacon & halloumi suggestion. I had delicous breakfast salad! Herb salad with crispy fried lardons and halloumi with my fancy evoo and red wine vinegar.

AandL · 22/01/2019 08:23

I love my IP @WhatThreeWords if you google Amy & Jacky instant pot their site is fab.

Doilooklikeatourist · 22/01/2019 08:26

Planning on making some coleslaw, usually it’s the basic white cabbage , carrot and onion , does celeriac discolour ?
My low carb thinking is add that , maybe some grated swede and broccoli stalk ?

Going out for lunch with some friends today , there’s no menu online but I think it’s a wrap , pizza and salndwich place ( Coaltown Coffee in Ammanford for anyone local 😀)

Rshard · 22/01/2019 08:26

I took a screenshot of that recipe @AandL, going to make it for lunch when I work from home

WhatTheFronti · 22/01/2019 08:27

A Good day. The scales were kind and are now heading in the right direction again this morning!
B - herbed cream cheese, proscuttio, avo and rocket parcels
L- BBQ chicken & salad (mixed leaves, cheddar, avo) with ff mayo
D - beef burger patties (2), pepper cream sauce and large serve of broccoli (topped with butter) (DH had mashed sweet potatoes too)

Had 3 coffee w almond milk, and some olives for snacks. + 4lt water

BIWI · 22/01/2019 08:45

@Doilooklikeatourist you can make 'ordinary' coleslaw on this WOE. There's a recipe on one of the recipe threads.

Off the top of my head, can't remember exact quantities, but I would use:

  • about a quarter of a small white cabbage, finely sliced (the food processor does this best!)
  • - half a carrot, finely grated
  • up to half a shallot, finely grated (amount is up to you, depending on how 'oniony' you want it, bearing in mind that it's raw!)

Mix all this together, and season with black pepper and sea salt, then give it a good drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and a splash of white wine vinegar (essentially a vinaigrette dressing). Stir and leave for about an hour or so. Then just before you're serving stir in a generous dollop (technical term) of full fat mayonnaise.

This will make easily enough for 2-3 people.

I've never tried using celeriac, but it does make a fine salad that's very traditionally French - celeriac remoulade

Here's a Nigel Slater recipe for it

BIWI · 22/01/2019 08:49

... and looking at their website, they look like the kind of place that would really care about their customers - I'd be tempted to call in advance and ask if they can do you a salad or something? Or when you arrive to ask them then.

Doilooklikeatourist · 22/01/2019 08:49

Thanks @BIWI
The shallots I’ve got are so amall !
I’ll have a look on the recipe thread for more inspiration
I like raw beetroot grated in , but that’s on the red zone in the veg chart !

BIWI · 22/01/2019 08:58

Yes - round shallots are a pain! That's why I always look out for the echallion (or banana) ones!. Top tip - if you soak them in boiling water for 30 seconds or so it's supposed to make them easier to peel

(And by the way, what a lovely part of the world you live in! I had a holiday around there a few years ago, can't remember the name of the place, but it wasn't far from Llandeilo. Beautiful!)
