January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

@AthelstaneTheUnread

I did the same yesterday with and end of the isle offer on 4 bar packs of various chocolate bars. even picked one up but none ended up in my trolly.

Must stay strong. Hubby away monday-wednesday night, must control myself then. May console myself with shear quantity :)

Unfortunately it my birthday too next week and im eating out twice in two days. I have looked at the menus though so am prepared. looks like i will be eating a lot of steaks and salads.

BIWI · 19/01/2019 18:58

@UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea we'll know if you've gone anywhere near that artisan gin ... Grin

That recipe looks fine, but as @nowlook says, swap the onions for shallots and the carb count will be even lower

@nowlook - it's only American recipes that talk about net carbs, because they include fibre in their carb counts. If it's a UK recipe, the carb count is the carb count

@MrsTerryPratcett yes, it will improve. I had a difficult time at the gym today as well - just had no energy. But you'll get your mojo back soon!

Trying to think of some nice low carb accompaniments to a baked Camembert.

How about some keto nachos? www.ditchthecarbs.com/fat-head-nachos/

venusandmars · 19/01/2019 19:29

@anniekenney I think that during the first 2 weeks of BC we're not allowed almond flour. I learned my lesson on that one by being the first person to get beaten by BIWI's big stick Grin

@whatthreewords lovely to see you. I'm a newbie on BootCamp so it's nice to see a familiar face. Hope you and your lovely girls are well. Do you still live in the same City?

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 19/01/2019 19:38

Stopping off at Stratford Westfield on our way home for tea, all the kids want is MacDonalds...what on earth am I going to eat!? Salad...?

nowlook · 19/01/2019 19:55

Couple of plain hamburgers and ditch the bread? Plus salad.

Garlic chilli prawns with spinach and mayo for lunch.
Beautiful pork belly with creamed cabbage and broccoli for supper. Mmmm crackling!

Need to get out of my Greek yoghurt breakfast rut though!

Lost5stone · 19/01/2019 20:00

Sooo many good sounding meals today!

For me:
B: Cream cheese pancakes and bacon
L: left over curry
D: Bolognese with cauli mash
E:10k run

AandL · 19/01/2019 20:02

@WhatThreeWords you sound quite the chef, delicious menu, your lucky guests!

@Haworthia Crisped slices of chorizo? garlic mushrooms sound great too, I did roast chunks of courgette too.

@newlook net carbs are only applicable in U.S asfaik so it is 7g.

Good day here,I actually didn't fit in 3 meals, did late breakfast, tore up the tm at the gym! creamy coffee after , then dinner out at 5.30. It went well, I didn't have any of the fries or shoestring onions fries for the table, or a beer!
I did have buffalo chicken wings, which were nicely crisps so may have been dusted in flour, and all the sauces tasted sweetened, even the aioli! Main was a make your own burger in a bowl so I has mixed green, beef burger, herbed goats cheese, spinach, olives, dill pickle, hb egg and ranch dressing. Very tasty. Brought kids to Gino's for ice-cream after and resisted offers of tastes.
Home now with herbal tea & Luther. I'm hoping, despite meal out I will see a slight loss tomorrow...

BIWI · 19/01/2019 20:05

@Threeminis I'm wondering how you got on at the Chinese last night?!

Haworthia · 19/01/2019 20:12

@Youcantscaremeihavechildren There are so many eateries at Westfield - just because the kids want McDonalds (mine are the same!) it doesn’t mean you have to follow. That eating area downstairs won’t be great for low carb, but you could bring their food up to the larger food court and get yourself some chicken thighs and salad from Nando’s. That’s what I’d do anyway Grin

AnnieKenney · 19/01/2019 20:13

My apologies but you can swap the almond flour for 4 tbsp coconut flour.

TescoValue · 19/01/2019 20:14

@Haworthia probably too late now, but we have sausages (if you have any lower carb ones) or home made meatballs with our dippy cheese!

KiteMarked · 19/01/2019 20:17

Carb flu. Ugh ugh ugh

nowlook · 19/01/2019 20:19

@AandL I wonder how many carbs in Luther...

AandL · 19/01/2019 20:21

All the muscles....high protein, low fat delicious....

MrsTerryPratcett · 19/01/2019 20:28

Luther is low day so you'd have to dip in butter.

fat dammit

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/01/2019 20:54

Was feeling a bit rough , but the thought of Luther and melted butter has perked me up a bit ❤️
Felt very tired then realised when I looked at my pruny fingers that I’d not had any water today , so I’m glugging a 2 litre bottle of sparkling water now
Today’s food
B sausages and mushrooms
L smoked salmon , hardboiled egg with salad and mayo
D chicken breast with cream sauce , cauli rice and lots of broccoli
Looking at DH chomping through a slice of chocolate cake and knowing there’s only 99 days to our holiday
#bikinibody

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 19/01/2019 21:02

@haworthia thanks, found there was a Greek place near maccy D's, got souvlaki and grilled vegetables, plus feta dip. Was actually alright. DH has just bought a massive bag of crisps for home though...reckon I might make some cheese crisps.

ChangoMutney · 19/01/2019 21:52

I’m cheating, I really fancied a glass of wine so I made myself a Seedlip and slimline tonic. I know we’re not supposed to be having sweeteners but it’s much better than booze. Not sure what else I could have with Seedlip, I don’t fancy soda water.

WhatTheFronti · 20/01/2019 06:18

Hi all.

Brunch out this morning went ok. Managed to order sides to compile a meal of my own much to the waitresses annoyance. I felt a bit silly - hate being a pain but it was worth it

B- haloumi, smashed avo & bacon. 2 x green tea
L - cheese, Jamon & grilled asparagus
D - roast chicken and broccoli and green beans ( carrot and roasties for rest fam)

Plan on a home made almond milk iced latte with whipped cream for dessert. It's been a long week (one more week of school holds....not counting....)

Rshard · 20/01/2019 06:54

Checking in late with yesterday’s food
B - scrambled eggs, half an avo (gave the other half to dh - kind aren’t I?)
L - massive salad, mayo tuna/basil pot ( lovely, thanks for the recommendation)
D fajita chicken salad

Busy day today as dd is swimming twice as usual but also starting to coach as part of her DoE but planning to do a roast chicken at some point. Have got low carb sausages for breakfast, dh and dd due back from her morning swimming at 9.30

Hope everyone has a great day

WhatThreeWords · 20/01/2019 07:49

Good morning. I have scraps of leftover salmon and kale and was considering that for breakfast but not sure I can face it!

@venusandmars yes I am still here! A lot A LOT has happened. Got a great new job though! How are you?

Coffee! I tried bulletproof but not getting on so well with it. I have added cinnamon which makes it slightly better but really not enjoying it. I used to love my lattes... what do I do?

  • I don’t enjoy cream in coffee
  • can I have a longer coffee and then just a wee bit of milk?
  • I have some unsweetened almond milk@whatthefronti how do I make an iced latte?

Basically - can I replicate a latte to any extent?! Or should I just not bother

Is there a view on taking psyllium husks to maintain fibre intake? I listened to an interesting debate on the Radio 4 Food Programme about Low Carb Diets and the lack of fibre was brought up as an issue.

nowlook · 20/01/2019 08:03

@WhatThreeWords I'm not a coffee drinker, but some people have been using lactose-free whole milk, which has lower carbs and is (apparently) closest to the real thing.

I'm managing with unsweetened almond milk in my tea and it's OK...just the colour takes some getting used to!

Not sure I could face salmon for breakfast, either...that's why I'm stuck in a cycle of Greek yoghurt.
