January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

BIWI · 14/01/2019 00:59

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

@Threeminis - I'm a bit concerned about the lack of protein (and probably fat) in your menus!

OP posts:
Threeminis · 15/01/2019 21:21

I did wonder about the protein. Had planned on chicken thighs tonight but they hadn't defrosted properly.
Fat wise, the sweet corn and omelette was fried in butter.
What else can I do to add in more fat?

BIWI · 15/01/2019 21:23

Fatty cuts of meat (the chicken thighs would have been perfect!)

Veg sautéed in butter/oil, or butter on hot veg when you serve it, oily salad dressings, mayonnaise (full fat obviously), and cream/cheese sauces.

Threeminis · 15/01/2019 21:25

Ok, noted.
Have salad for tomorrow, to go with the thighs.. I'll roast them in butter and chuck a load of mayo on the salad.

Doilooklikeatourist · 15/01/2019 21:38

We had chicken thighs tonight
Yummy lovely crispy chicken skin ❤️
With stir fried cabbage , mushrooms, courgette ,teeny bit of onion and carrot ( I put most of the carrot on DH plate )
I really wanted a glass of wine , but I’m doing dry January , as is DH , and I can’t let him do better than me

whatsthestory123 · 15/01/2019 21:45

Threeminis · 15/01/2019 21:50

I'm so jealous @Doilooklikeatourist

SheldonTheWonderShlong · 15/01/2019 21:52

Spinach and cream cheese souffle muffins sound nice. Is there a recipe somewhere?

skinnyamericano · 15/01/2019 22:04

Hi everyone. I lurked on the pre-Christmas boot camp and lost nearly 1 stone, then managed to put 6lbs back on over the holidays.

Thought I’d come out of hiding this time, to make myself more accountable.

B black coffee 🤭 (I know, I know)
L lettuce, tuna mayo, olives, avocado
D Spanish chicken, broccoli, courgettes fried in olive oil

I still find it really hard to get into eating fat, and I don’t think I will ever stop craving cake.... but this WOE works for me to control weight as well as feeling pretty good. I’m managing to run lots this time too, which I felt too awful to do last time.

So, thanks BIWI and all the other organisers - really appreciate your time and support.

Mandelinka · 15/01/2019 22:12

Just chilling in my bed and catching up on everyone‘s progress.

B: 1/2L green tea (week 3/4 for me so no bfast)
L: stir fry with pork, mushrooms and courgette, creme fresh
D: mixed salad, burger, tspoon of peanut butter, slice of cheddar

W: cca 2.5 L ( mainly green or mint tea really as tap water feels cold on my sensitive teeth ), 1 black coffee, 1 tea with milk

I’ve been copy/pasting ideas and recipes into my notes on my phone for quick access. Forgot about baby bells, remember from previous BC’s other types of cheese can be ‘exploded’ as well.

Mandelinka · 15/01/2019 22:15

I think I’m experiencing keto itch, had it in the past, it usually appears either on my stomach or under arms. This time it looks more like mosquito bites tho, but I’m quite sure there is no insect crawling about...Confused

bella1426 · 15/01/2019 22:22

Can we have almond milk?

BIWI · 15/01/2019 22:36

Yes you can have almond milk - just make sure you don't buy a sweetened one

Things went a bit crazy tonight and I didn't get a proper dinner.

I've had 2 celery sticks slathered in cream cheese, and 2 with peanut butter. I've had about a handful of almonds.

Still peckish, what can I eat that's quick and easy?

WillYouDoTheFandango · 15/01/2019 22:42

Which peanut butter is Keto friendly kite?

You could have an omelette?

KiteMarked · 15/01/2019 22:49

I ate the whole nut peanut butter that Lidl sells. No sugar, just a bit of salt added.

I've had 5 eggs today... omelette doesn't appeal at the mo! :)

tootstastic · 15/01/2019 22:51

Ooh this thread is fast! Well done to all the new starters, it's hard to get your head around at first, but you will get used to it. And not snacking definitely gets easier once you get out of the habit and your appetite reduces. I do still struggle to drink as much water as I should though.

I used to get awful carb itch in my cleavage where my bras sit, but that seems to have mostly gone now.

I'm feeling happier today after feeling very hormonal and a bit teary yesterday. TOTM won't have helped either. Thanks to all the lovely Bootcampers who were there to give me a boost when I needed it. I am KOKO and intend to hang around until all the excess weight is off, so I may be here for a while! 36.2 lbs down, 94.8 lbs to go.

For a bit of fun, I found this website earlier...apparently I've lost the equivalent of a mid-sized microwave.

Haworthia · 15/01/2019 23:23

Peanut butter isn’t low carb. Which is a tragedy, because I love it so, but there you go!

Gammeldragz · 15/01/2019 23:26

Peanut butter isn't low carb? It's my go to snack! I thought 5% was fairly low for something you only have a spoonful of.

KiteMarked · 15/01/2019 23:29

Really? Drat, drat, drat.

I love it too. However, I do tend to eat it on toast or with apples, so I won't have the opportunity to eat it as much now anyway.

Are there any nut or seed butters that are low carb?

Haworthia · 15/01/2019 23:34

You’re not really supposed to go near nuts and seeds during the first week of bootcamp. If you move to bootcamp lite, then some nuts and seeds are allowed, but only in very small quantities. It’s easy to overdo it as well, because they’re so moreish.

I’ll let @BIWI explain it better Grin

What do you mean by 5%, Gammeldragz?

Haworthia · 15/01/2019 23:35

First TWO weeks of bootcamp, not first week!

KiteMarked · 15/01/2019 23:39

I remember now - I read the bit about vegetarians being allowed nuts & seeds and got muddled. I'm not veggie though I don't eat a lot of meat.

That's fine, I'll leave it until later.

Notlostjustexploring · 15/01/2019 23:51

tootstastic thanks for sharing that website. I like a good visualisation. Looks like I'm trying to lose an elephant penis worth of weight over the course of the year!! And well done for getting rid of a microwave!!!

Speaking of microwaves, thank you to whomever it was, lost track of who, for the baby Bel in the microwave. They are fantastic!!! Think I'll have them for breakfast tomorrow. Would spreading them with cream cheese be a step too far do we think?
