January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

BIWI · 14/01/2019 00:59

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

@Methemummy there's supposed to be a lot of protein and fat Grin

What are you worried about?

If you're really bothered about the macros, then you could use something like MFP to log everything - I can't be bothered!

Do you actually know how many grams of protein are in the foods you're eating? Or are you just assuming it's high protein because you're eating a lot of meat/fish?

this will give you a better idea

But as a rough guide, the fattier the meat you're eating, the lower the protein content. For example, in 100g chicken thigh there are 24g protein. In 100g chicken breast, there's 31g protein.

Laska They are perfect for hitting the spot when something savoury is required. I don't think they contain carbs but they are 'processed' and it's quite difficult to eat more than 3 or 4

ElasticFirecracker · 15/01/2019 18:43

Felt better this afternoon, but now feel terrible and as well as feeling generally awful have terrible nausea now. Will not bechav

Laska2Meryls · 15/01/2019 18:44

batshittery I was only joking.. they are moreish , but i reckon i couldn't eat that many due to the salt .. yum though.. goes off to make another

SheldonTheWonderShlong · 15/01/2019 18:50

Thanks for the baby bel link. Will give them a whirl tomorrow

Laska2Meryls · 15/01/2019 18:50

.. and the expense of course......
I just cut them in half to make 2 discs and it took 40 secs.. did them in silicon micro poached egg molds..

That is it though.. no more for tonight ..

Methemummy · 15/01/2019 19:00

@biwi probably didn’t phrase it right as I know it’s a lot of protein and fat 😜

I think it’s just I have Been logging on mfp and my protein intake is higher than the macro I calculated. Your probably right and best not worry about that.

nowlook · 15/01/2019 19:19

Good day today! Ended up with:
B: FF Greek yoghurt
L: Left-over ratatouille with hard-boiled eggs
D: Broccoli, green beans, garlic mushrooms, chicken and some relatively posh mayo with no carbs (DH cooked again- I'd live on tuna mayo otherwise)
Snacks were cheddar and celery. 3ltrs of water and tea with unsweetened almond milk.

Not at all hungry, but did have a moment when the DC returned from school arguing about nonsense: could've fancied a glass of wine then, but don't have any in (it's the only way with me!).

Haworthia · 15/01/2019 19:26

My three year old is being an absolute horror this evening. This is the sort of thing that has me reaching for the sugar/booze, but I’m holding strong 💪

BIWI · 15/01/2019 19:28

I'm impressed!

Today is day 9 for me of no alcohol and it's been much easier than I thought. Although tonight I would like a G&T for some reason!

But as DH is also doing it, we're keeping each other on the straight and narrow, which is just as well Grin

Really enjoying my food at the moment. Bought myself an omelette maker today, or prodicsd better omelettes that I expected.

MrsKoala · 15/01/2019 19:32

It's been a trying day but the food has been good I think. I woke at 3am feeling like I had a hangover, really dehydrated, desperate for a pee and a foul taste in my mouth. Got up at 6 and had a ginger and lemon tea and it seemed to sort me out. Drinking and pissing constantly (which is really unusual for me) so I keep feeling surprised that i'm busting to go - the physio I had after the birth of ds1 told me off for not drinking or going enough, as its really bad for the pelvic floor apparently. So this may be a hidden benefit of the diet I hadn't considered. Grin

B - 3 spinach and cream cheese soufflé muffins
L - (Whetherspoons) 14oz (fatty) rump steak with a large salad and loads of mayo.
D - Curry mince pork, on a steam bag of veg rice and topped with 2 fried eggs

As a recommendation the steam veg bags from Iceland are really not bad and very convenient.

prettybird · 15/01/2019 19:32

My willpower is having to work hard at the moment. With all the shenanigans going on at WM, a G&T Gin would make the evening much more tolerable Grin But I will resist Halo

MrsKoala · 15/01/2019 19:35

Sorry forgot to post the link groceries.iceland.co.uk/iceland-4-multi-greens-rice-steam-bags-600g/p/68854

I had my dinner at 6.30 today which was so much better. I will have a chunk of stilton later and a licorice tea before bed.

I am also craving a glass of wine now tho. At least the plumber came to fix the heating today, which I think has helped with craving stodgy food.

Rshard · 15/01/2019 19:41

I’ve popped some of those tuna pots in my online shop, thanks venusandmars

Today I’ve eaten
B - scrambled eggs, salmon, avocado
L - hm Greek salad, hm coleslaw, chicken
D - bolognaise, broccoli

MissMacaron · 15/01/2019 19:43

Hello, just catching up with everyone after my day one (and saving A LOT of recipe ideas!).

B: Green tea
L: omelette with mushroom and tomato
D: tuna steak with a lot of roasted veg and some cauliflower rice

So far so good. No cravings yet, but that may be because of a very heavy sweet/pudding/chocolate weekend which I’m happy to leave in the past (oops!).

Laska2Meryls · 15/01/2019 19:46

Ok its almost an hour after eating the microwaved baby bels and I am regretting it . They were just far, far too salty and i'm now feeling a bit yuk , despite chugging even more water (I must be well over 4l today now) ..

I wont be doing those again..

BIWI · 15/01/2019 19:57

@MissMacaron - where is your breakfast?! Tea doesn't count as food!

OP posts:
ChangoMutney · 15/01/2019 20:11

Checking in, I know I’ll stick to it better if I do

b. Buttery scrambled egg, buttery mushrooms
L. Roast beef salad
d. Baked pork loin with butter, green rice steam bag from Iceland (broccoli, kale, courgette, seaweed) carbs per bag 3g, mixed the buttery sauce into the greens was delish.

I’m craving something sweet, but pushing through.

Cheeseandapple · 15/01/2019 20:22

@BIWI you're right! I need to be a bit more creative... on that note I tried the bare naked noodles in stir fry tonight. Delicious!

Managed a run - first in absolutely years. Still finding the 4-7 sugar pangs hard and I stupidly went to sainsburys in this time - they do that thing of pumping the smell of 'bakery' by the entrance - & then found 2 ferrero rocher (how do you spell that!?), which is the kind of thing I scoff so quickly I convince myself it doesn't count but managed to remember KOKO before I'd got the wrapping off 😅 Ended up having quite a late lunch of chilli and cauli leftovers with cheese and yog but have still managed three meals with cheesy snack between B and L.

I'm loving reading this thread through the day. Well done everyone! 🙌🏻

CassieStuart · 15/01/2019 20:36

Almost made it through day 2. Sitting here watching the goings on in parliament and must admit it would be lovely to have a nice glass of wine whilst I did! Trying not to mix this craving up with actually being genuinely hungry.

For dinner this evening I had two low carb sausages, cauliflower mash (with lots of butter) and also some butter fried mushrooms and runner beans. Very tasty.

BIWI · 15/01/2019 20:38

Yes @CassieStuart it's a difficult watch isn't it, without a glass in hand!

OP posts:
CassieStuart · 15/01/2019 20:56

@BIWI at least without a glass in my hand I am free to hide behind my hands!

Threeminis · 15/01/2019 21:01

@Condamine
I have a huge 2.5l bottle. I fill it in the morning, I don't actually take it to work but I only work 10-3:35. I make sure I have finished it by the end of the day - anything else is a bonus

I was so sure I posted earlier but I've either missed it as I was scrolling through or forgotten to actually hit post.

Food today

B - fried baby sweet corn, coffee with cream
L - broccoli and cauliflower soup with grated cheese mixed through
D - bacon, mushroom and cheese omelette

Have just refilled my big water bottle so definitely enough water today.

On another note, has anyone ever come across any fitness 'dvd's' on Netflix/sky/amazon?? We have streamlined our dvd collection chucked them all

prettybird · 15/01/2019 21:02

I have managed to resist a large G&T Grin: an watching in horrified fascination Confused

Dh has very kindly opened himself a bottle of rosé as he knows I'm not keen on rosé Grin
