January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

I never really have a proper answer to that!

Yes, I suppose it does, but make sure you're getting the quantity overall. Try not to rely on too much of it coming from sweetly flavoured liquid though. Remember we're all about avoiding sweet stuff here.

Is coconut milk an alternative to cream on bootcamp? Thanks Smile

Laska2Meryls · 15/01/2019 15:10

Thanks BIWI I only have peppermint tea ( I hate the fruit ones) I am glugging water also though

venusandmars · 15/01/2019 15:14

MrsTerryPratcett I got this tuna from our local supermarket tuna with olive oil and basil It was great on my salad, especially with added mayonnaise! There are several in the range, but you need to read carefully because some (like the basil one, or the coriander and cumin one) are 0.1g carb, and others have added sugar and are 10g carb (salmon and sweet chilli).

I've got my fingers crossed that it doesn't get ruled out by BIWI, couldn't deal with that 2 days in a row Wink Grin

MrsTerryPratcett · 15/01/2019 15:19

That looks good venusandmars

I'm on a warning because of the electrolytes so I'm not eating it if BIWI says "no". Grin

I did make the egg muffins and had two for breakfast. Very very good.

TescoValue · 15/01/2019 15:20

@1Wildheartsease waft about Grin

@BIWI I completely get what you're saying about saying NO to partners. Have made it really clear to my partner what I can and can't eat, don't want looks of judgment for the amount of fat I'm eating etc. I'm still cooking carbs for him and whenever he cooks he knows what I can have. He has Crohn's disease and there's a whole subreddit (I know not official information) about people with the disease feeling 1000X better on LCHF. Trying to get him on board.

BIWI · 15/01/2019 15:26

@venusandmars - sorry again Grin

Those tuna things look absolutely fine. But as you quite rightly say, it's always a good idea to check the label - so many things have hidden or added sugar

Going ok today, but think I might be eating too much cheese?

I've eaten a whole Boursin myself since yesterday morning - used it in two breakfasts (mixed with egg) and then ate the rest of it as a snack this afternoon. @BIWI is this too much dairy?

I'm a bit of a coffee addict so reducing my 6-7 a day down. Had 3 cups today all with double cream, which I intend to reduce to two tomorrow and every day going forward.

Otherwise, lovely lunch of boiled egg, cooked chicken, salad of tomatoes cucumber and avocado covered in oil, dash of red wine vinegar and big pile of mayo on the side.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 15/01/2019 15:45

You're on, Frogs Grin

I would like to waft about too, she said wistfully.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 15/01/2019 16:24

@BIWI you are very straight talking, I appreciate that.

Re my water intake, I'm drinking about 2.5-3 litres a day, depending on how much I'm exercising, in a mixture of straight forward water and herbal teas.

BIWI · 15/01/2019 16:35

@CassieStuart

Yes, sadly, you can eat too much cheese!

Atkins (in the first edition of The New Diet Revolution) recommended that you keep to 75-100g cheese - 3-4oz - a day.

It's also possible that you may not tolerate dairy well - lots of people can't - but the only way to find out is to experiment. See how you get on and if you're not losing as much as think you should be, then cut out cheese, milk and cream. Butter is OK.

BIWI · 15/01/2019 16:37

@UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea. Yes, I am. It's meant with good intentions though! There's no point me sympathising with you, and saying 'never mind hun, tomorrow is another day' because low carbing doesn't work like that!

The water consumption sounds perfect. Smile

Lol at exploding baby bels. I'm interested if anyone can shed any further light on timings 😀

venusandmars I have some of those infusions in the cupboard! I really like them and completely forgot they were low carb. Really nice with baby gem/cos lettuce.

Haworthia · 15/01/2019 17:05

I perfected the crunchy microwaved Babybel trick about three years ago. Can’t remember how long I nuked them for now. Around the time I was going mad for them, I caught a nasty gastro bug and haven’t been able to face them since, even though there’s absolutely no connection!

BIWI · 15/01/2019 17:08

Here you go: Babybel cheese crisps

@BIWI Agree, let's keep this a hun-free zone!

Busy day here, prepping lots of lunches and food shopping, hoping I've got it all right! I have just made a massive cauliflower crust quiche, which will be lunches for the next week, plus made lasagne, did it with the double cream and cheese sauce (did a separate one for me with aubergine instead of pasta) but the kids turned their noses up, think it was just too oily..will wait and see what DH says..
I am full though but I don't think I've had enough water, I've just been rushing all over so barely stopped. Will try to drink more now, liking some of the tips above.
B. Boiled eggs and spinach
L. Bacon, spinach, avocado
D. Aubergine lasagne, prob too many toms in the sauce as made it last week but added leeks and courgettes to bulk it out.
I did snack though, had a spoon of clotted cream, a couple of cocktail sausages and some pate...Blush

Batshittery · 15/01/2019 18:01

Hello all.
I'm a long term boot camper but have been awol for the past year and I am returning under a name change.

It always makes me smile to see BIWI wielding her stick in the first couple of days Grin

I can highly recommend exploding babybels. They are a revelation.

I am starting tomorrow and wish everyone good luck Thanks

LostaraYil · 15/01/2019 18:01

Checking in, day 2.
B: coffee with double cream
L: some roast veg, feta and a bit of beef
D: Just about to make spag bol to feed 2 teenage boys, I'll just have sauce without the pasta.
Shit day at work and could really do with something sweet or some wine, but I know it's a slippery slope and this is exactly why I need the accountability!

LostaraYil · 15/01/2019 18:03

Shamelessly adding babybels to my shopping list!

BIWI · 15/01/2019 18:04

@LostaraYil Where's your breakfast?! Rule 1 - you must eat three meals a day.

. Love the new name Grin

Methemummy · 15/01/2019 18:12

Day 2 check in.

B: 1x egg with flat mushroom & roasted tomato
L: ham roll up as busy with work and not hungry
D: duck Breast with spinach cooked in butter & garlic.

Just looking at my meals ahead and worried there’s a lot of protein & fat. How do you balance this t ensure you are eating enough fat?

Laska2Meryls · 15/01/2019 18:25

Oh.My. Crunchy Babybels.. I just tried it .. 1.30 in my micro

How many of these can we eat in a day ? (they are salty though , probably not too many would be a good idea)
