Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - we start our last month

Morning all!

Hopefully last week's wobble with the spreadsheet has been overcome:

Here it is

And hope there aren't too many wobbles on the LCHF front either!

It's an absolutely gorgeous day here, and seems like all of this week is going to be glorious. (Well, Darn Sarf it is anyway!)

I hope that you all have a good day food-wise too. Somehow it always seems easier when it's salad/barbecue weather, to stay on the low carb track.

Good look and here's to another successful week Flowers

Thanks ragz for the electrolyte info

That’s fab, well done m0ther

prettybird · 28/06/2018 13:27

The thing to remember about this WoE is that, after the initial "whoosh", weight loss of an average of one to two pounds a week less if you are close to target is normal Smile

This means that some weeks (or even months Shock) there will be no/barely any movement on the scales and then they'll start moving again. It's oy when you look back over the period that you see the continued trajectory.

I stalled for two months at the start of this year, fell off the wagon I blame my birthday and baking myself a fabulous cake Blush (The fact that I'd fallen off well before my birthday is a minor detail Wink) for 6 weeks before getting back on the wagon and into this Boot Camp.

I'm now well below my "stall weight" - having lost what I put on while I was off/running after the wagon Blush and then some more Smile So I am confident that by KOKO, I will continue on downwards Grin

abbey44 · 28/06/2018 17:52

I've been on this WOE for long enough (since last September properly) to know that it IS a WOE and not a diet, and that it works, but oh, it's so frustrating when that long-term stall happens. Over this BC I've bounced round the same four pounds, often with seemingly no logic, and I'm just a few pounds (two today, to be exact) away from the next stone number down. So close.... I'm obviously not alone, so the encouragement to KOKO is helping, but I wish those bloody scales would just move down just a little bit.

BIWI · 28/06/2018 20:00

You could always try doing Ultra Bootcamp? Three days' worth of recipes are on the spreadsheet

What the best things to order and avoid for Chinese takeaway? Urgent - friend here for the footy and requesting Chinese, how can I avoid ruining everything? Will obviously avoid noodles and rice and just have a main dish.

oldbirdy · 28/06/2018 20:21

Ok quick Google tells me egg Foo Yung is a relatively safe bet....stand down 😁

abbey44 · 28/06/2018 20:58

Thanks BIWI - I've just had a look at that. It's pretty much what I'm eating at the moment, so I'll stick with it over the weekend and see what Monday brings.

LazydaysofSummer · 28/06/2018 21:25

@qumqat and those others craving something crunchy have you tried Golden Pork Crunch, from the Original pork company?
I really miss crisps and don't really like pork scratching but these are like an aerated version, kind of a big quaver type thing that tastes slightly meaty. There's no teeth breaking crunchy bits just crispy light snacks that are

qumquat · 28/06/2018 21:57

Ooh sounds good lazydays thank you. I do actually like pork scratchings but my local supermarket doesn't seem to stick them any more. Unfortunately there was box of Pringles at work just when I got peak crunch craving and I succumbed to a few. I might get to Morrisons tomorrow so I'll look them up.

LazydaysofSummer · 28/06/2018 23:08

I'm impressed you could stop after a few @qumquat and not just inhale the tube! Obviously I'd prefer a walkers cheese and onion but they are a nice crunchy substitute that work with this WOE.

Itchyknees · 29/06/2018 09:18

Oh oh oh oh!

I got some electrolyte tablets and all the water I felt I was retaining has GONE!!! 3lbs off! So 21 in total!

I look different, I have collarbones and cheekbones for a start. My mother, who I’ve posted about before, has not said one word. Hmm

m0therofdragons · 29/06/2018 10:14

Feel like I'm playing catch up as I'm on week one and having loads of revelations which I imagine the rest of you had either weeks ago or years ago!

It's only been the last 2 years I've been overweight and after 3 babies the weight came off with very little effort if I'm honest. Funnily enough a toddler and twin babies meant I didn't have much time to eat but then they all went to school and me to work and I eat constantly.

I've always had pasta, rice and bread as a big part of my diet but never saw it as an issue until recently I was suddenly devouring so much bread even dh commented I'd had a lot. Since starting this I've not actually craved bread, which feels weird. Similarly, last night I did bolognese and I had the meet with Parmesan but no pasta and didn't look at dc plates feeling left out as I had more of the quorn bolognese and a lovely full fat yoghurt! So excited to be away from muller lights!!!!

Waswittyonce · 29/06/2018 10:15

That's brilliant @Itchyknees!
I remember your post about your mum and how she sounded like my grandmother was with my mother, and one or two other people I know are too. Sadly they seem never truly happy, and don't have the ability to see outside themselves which means they never change either.
Try not to take it to heart too much, we're all behind you here and you are doing this for you after all xx ThanksThanks

prettybird · 29/06/2018 10:33

Good for you m0ther - it is indeed a revelation Smile

It's lovely to find yourself free of those cravings.

When I make carbonara or bolognaise, I serve up pasta for dh and ds and courgette "pasta" (aka ribbons of courgette panfried briefly in butter) for me. Also helps with the required FLGV Grin

In the meat recipe threads, there is also a recipe that I adapted from my mum's fabulous recipe for lasagne, using thinly sliced courgettes instead of lasagne sheets.

Lonesurvivor · 29/06/2018 10:36

Well done waswitty great loss both today and so far.
I've a difficult (understatement of the year) mother too who hasn't commented but at least she no longer comments about how fat I am since after one comment too many my sister and father put manners on herGrin

prettybird · 29/06/2018 10:42

My mum would've loved this WOE and would have come up with all sorts of brilliant recipes, adapting existing ones or making up new ones.

She and I did Atkins many years ago - but this WOE is sooooo much better. Smile

{{{UnMNy Hugs}}} to those with unsupportive mothers - and the same again to those who miss their mums Sad

TimeIhadaNameChange · 29/06/2018 11:07

My stomach is really not happy today. It's acting as though I had a shedload of carbs yesterday, but I didn't, and haven't since the weekend. It's really strange. Am wondering if it was the heat yesterday. Was feeling quite rough come the afternoon, and then "ran" home (slowly, and with some walking). Didn't actually feel too bad, had lots of electrolyed water with me. Jumped in the shower as soon as I got in, but then really didn't know what to do with myself. Wanted to sleep, but couldn't.

In the end I spent many hours in my new garden seat DP had put up for me that afternoon. It was shaded, so I wasn't in the sun, and there was a breeze. I didn't end up eating much for dinner as I just wasn't hungry.

Mandate · 29/06/2018 11:16

Hello all. This will probably be my last check in on the BC threads as we are leaving for holiday this evening, and I will try to cut back my internet use while we are away. I am 82.6kg again today, so another week of staying the same, though I have actually gone up then down during this week. I am going to try and eat in a maintenance style while I am away - mainly low carb, some high carb foods if they are worth it (so if there is the option of a real French creme brulee I will probably say yes, similarly to one or two real croissants) but try not to go off piste for anything unnecessary.

I haven't posted on the threads as much as I would have liked, find it difficult to keep up sometimes - but I have so appreciated reading this thread and some of the older BC threads for tips / support / similar experiences. Thank you @BIWI for running BCs! And to everyone else on the threads, the group support is amazing.

I am 5.5kg down on where I started on April 30th, so almost exactly two months since I started back on strict LC. After my holiday I will get back on some strict BC for a few weeks, and then KOKO with BC light. My biggest NSV during this BC has been that I have not even once fallen into eating carbs as a technique to calm me down, which is my biggest downfall where carbs are concerned, even though there has been a range of stressors in these two months. I have gone off plan sometimes but only when I have decided it is worth it to me.

I was thinking about the graphs some people have posted - if you imagine the line you would get if you weren't trying to lose or gain it would almost certainly have ups and downs - so you would fluctuate by a few pounds either way even if you were staying the same weight on average. So when you are making the line tilt down the way when you are trying to lose weight, then you get the same line but tipped downhill. It helped me to feel ok about some ups that I couldn't explain through eating choices! (Doesn't explain your completely straight line, though @ilovecherries....!)

@TimeIhadaNameChange I have had a week or so of feeling bloated like I have had carbs even though I haven't - for me I think it has been a combination of the heat / not enough water and also a low level tummy bug which has given me tummy pain and bloating but no other symptoms (unlike dh who got a dose of d&v....)

Good luck to everyone for the last two weeks, I will see you again in the chat threads or next BC! KOKO!

Rshard · 29/06/2018 11:25

That’s awesome, well done itchy

So glad you’re enjoying this woe m0ther, like prettybird I usually have courgette with my bolognaise. Or spinach

Enjoy your holiday mandate

Gammeldragz · 29/06/2018 13:30

itchy oooh, a possible confirmation of my electrolyte hypothesis! Glad it worked for you.

Study day today (last essay of year two hopefully) and I've had a bulletproof coffee, bowl of strawberries, linseed mix and double cream for breakfast, chorizo, camembert and mangetout for lunch. Lots of black coffee.
Picking DS2 up from residential in a minute so I'll take my electrolyte drink with me as I usually have it on the way to work/placement.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 29/06/2018 15:26

Not been here much as been packing, packing, packing, packing, packing, packing, packing, packing, wilting, wilting, wilting. Have one more day before I'm off to Glasgow (minus the heavy furniture which is waiting for the removal firm on the 11th).

@prettybird or @ilovecherries - is there a grocers/chain in Glasgow that's similar to Booths or Cranstons here in Cumbria? i.e. 1/2 way to being a supermarket, but selling local veg and locally raised meat?

All this electrolyte talk is interesting - am sharing the swollen bloaty feeling but couldn't fit another sip of tap water in. Mineral water goes down like a dream though, so likely you're all onto something!

DramaAlpaca · 29/06/2018 15:38

I've just had a pint of water with an electrolyte tablet in it so will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens!

I'm not posting much, but still pottering on. I'm not hungry much at all these days. It's quite a revelation to not be thinking about food, and when I do get hungry it's a different feeling - sort of a gentle reminder to eat rather than a gnawing, utterly ravenous sensation.

I've lost 8lb so far, which I know isn't much compared to some of you, but I'm very happy with my progress.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 29/06/2018 15:44

oooooooooo... I think you're all right! I've just had a teaspoon - a teaspoon of seasalt and it tasted bloody marvellous.

Itchyknees · 29/06/2018 16:16

Gammaldragz, I think your theory is spot on. I am weeing like a horse too.

prettybird · 29/06/2018 16:29

Not really Athelstane Sad

There's Peckhams - which is really just a big deli. There's also Locavore (which is close to me and to my shame I've never been) https://glasgowlocavore.org/buy/locavore-grocer/

They also do veg boxes.
