Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh-in!

BIWI · 19/03/2018 07:19

Good morning!

Well, we've finally reached the end. Here's the spreadsheet, for the last time

It feels to me like it's been a really good Bootcamp, with lots of NSVs as well as success on the scales. Hopefully today sees another good reading on the scales too!

As I've said on previous threads, just because we've reached the end of this Bootcamp, it doesn't mean that we all just melt away - I'll keep this chat thread going and when it fills up, I'll start another general chat one, so there's always someone here for help and support as well as ongoing low carb stuff.

I'll probably put the big stick back in its cupboard for a while though Grin

Ah, the way, I was getting confused. I thought yolo had posted someone else's tummy 🤣

Destiny, buy a good sports bra. I am a d cup and run fine. So not huge but you get some very supportive bras that stop any discomfort.

YoLoHogwomanay · 25/03/2018 10:08

phew! The great Yolo belly myth is busted!

ilovecherries · 25/03/2018 12:20

Destiny I started running at a 38K. If you can beat that, you get a free pass Grin. Its not easy though, and I used to feel like I'd murder the next person who told me that shock absorbers were great. Im sure they are, but they didn't bloody well go anywhere near big enough.

Rayna37 · 25/03/2018 14:28

As has been said, boobs definitely not an excuse Destiny Try https://www.boobydoo.co.uk/ (though personally not one for online clothes shopping especially bras!) Shock Absorber Run bras are good if available in your size (not just any old shock absorber sports bra). My top tip from when I started was a crop top or vest with in-built support over a sports bra, under your tshirt.
If you're in doubt, look up Bryony Gordon; if she can run a marathon , no-one can use boobs as an excuse.

EeeSheWasThin · 25/03/2018 15:23

I’ve just walked in starving from supermarket and instead of hitting the crisps/crackers I’ve had 4 spoonfuls of the clotted cream I bought.

It will put me on until I eat proper food scrambled eggs again

Suspect I’ll be at the same weight tomorrow morning but Bette ruthenium putting it on.

I have left that in as potentially the most bizarre autocorrect ever...but “better than” putting it on...

Lonesurvivor · 25/03/2018 16:18

Sorry for asking a stupid question but it's burning inside of me since I found this forum😶
Why is been very high fat, even more so than protein one of the rules?

BIWI · 25/03/2018 16:38

Fat is satiating, so stops you getting hungry. One really good reason!

This piece might also help you understand why we don't fear fat!

Grimbles · 25/03/2018 17:20

I think people have trouble with its the proportion of fat in your diet that matters, not necessarily the actual amount. I know I still struggle sometimes

As BIWI says, fat stops you being hungry so you end up eating less. If you are eating 1500 cals a day, the fact that 1000 of those are from fat is irrelevant if you were previously eating 2-2500 cals of high carb food instead (which also tend to a lot of fat in them too).

That's my view anyway!

BIWI · 25/03/2018 17:22

... plus, of course, if you were eating those 1000 calories in fat, there's no impact on your insulin levels, unlike with carbs and also, to a much smaller degree, protein.

Thank you both for the replies and links.
Last time I did low carb I really struggled with the fat element. I still often used lower eat products despite knowing this wasn't the plan. It's very hard to break two decades of habit.
Currently because I'm limiting calories too I'm not eating copious amounts of fat but I'm determined to break the cycle of low fat choices so in 5 weeks when I up my calories I will be naturally eating more.
I am using full fat cheese, yogurts and butter. Eating some nuts and choosing oil rather than vinegaret dressings.
I'm never hungry so something is working!

TerfsUp · 25/03/2018 19:02

I'm starting Week 10. I've fallen off the wagon only once and that was to eat some milk chocolate (horrors!) that wasn't very good.

If someone had told me back in December that I could go nine weeks without bread, potatoes, pasta or wine I would never have believed them.

Rayna37 · 25/03/2018 19:47

Have been off-piste over the weekend: two fabulous brunches and two great evening restaurant meals in York. Cheats were top quality and in the sourdough, artisan pork pie and a few beers category rather than chips, cakes and puddings, but too numerous. Egg fasting now until we go away again on Tuesday. I will weigh in on Tuesday!

Rshard · 25/03/2018 19:48

Really bizarre auto correct eee!

Well done terfsup, it’s amazing isn’t it to be not eating a previously dominant food group but managing perfectly well without

TerfsUp · 25/03/2018 19:54

Thank you, rshard! It's great - I'm really pleased with my progress.

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2018 07:27

Morning all. Well I had two glasses of red wine again last night sigh, due to daughter coming home, but again didn't eat wrong. Hmmm, no more booze till Sunday now, as I'm having a party then, so will drink, but will stay off till then.

She did comment I'd lost weight, told me I looked great, however seemed more taken with my new car. Apparently the pics didn't do it justice and had to take her for a spin round the town immediately.,, in my large fluffy slippers which make my feet look like mini mouses.🤣

Sister in law went to a huge effort for them, so suspect she was just trying to do a nice thing. 🤔

Rshard · 26/03/2018 07:53

Morning

I think bluntness, is following this woe whilst still living your life. And why this woe works! I smiled at your dd being enamoured of your new wheels!

LeapinLizards · 26/03/2018 09:23

How hilarious - love your daughter's reaction, bluntness. "You've lost weight and you look brilliant, mum, but OMG your new car!!!!!"

ilovecherries · 26/03/2018 09:42

Humph. STILL not under that 160 lbs. how hard can it be to lose 8 bloody OUNCES!

YoLoHogwomanay · 26/03/2018 11:16

Go and have a wee, ilove!!!

LeapinLizards · 26/03/2018 11:39

Or a massive poo! Grin

ilovecherries · 26/03/2018 12:08

I did the first suggestion and can currently only dream of achieving the second!

ShagMeRiggins · 26/03/2018 15:15

If you're planning to eat carbs then the best time to exercise is straight afterwards as that will burn off the glucose before it is laid down as glycogen.

@StuntNun will you please clarify if this is general LCHF advice or were you referring specifically to an egg fast. Cheers.

@BIWI you provide some great links for us—is the references bit of the spreadsheet updated with the articles and studies we’re pointed to?

I’m fairly evangelical about this WOE and would love to point others to good resources so they can make up their own minds.

People are really starting to notice the weight loss now and comment on it—people I see daily, weekly, monthly, even yearly. Every time someone asks how I did it, I bang on about LCHF, the Mumsnet Bootcamp support group, and then tell them what I’m having for dinner, which is usually something lush and on their “naughty” list Wink

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2018 16:21

To be completely honest the reaction was....

Kiss
Big Hug
Her nice car, can you open it
Me, sure.
Her. I thought you bought an old mans car. But that's actually really nice. Let's go out.
Me ok but Im in my slippers,,,
Her. Oh by the way you look great! You can really tell you've lost weight.
Me thanks for noticing,🤣

TimeIhadaNameChange · 26/03/2018 16:37

I had a NSV yesterday. I've taken to wearing skirts or dresses on a Sunday to get the shopping, as jeans make work life easier, and Saturdays I tend to just hang around the house in joggers. Yesterday I was out wearing a tunic, and had put a wide, elastic belt on to give myself a waist. Saw someone who I know from work (so who only sees me in jeans) and she was amazed at how tiny I was. Told me her hands would fit around my waist! They wouldn't, but it was lovely that she said that nonetheless!

Rshard · 26/03/2018 17:13

Some lovely nsv’s and loved the transcript of your conversation with your dd bluntness
