Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh-in!

BIWI · 19/03/2018 07:19

Good morning!

Well, we've finally reached the end. Here's the spreadsheet, for the last time

It feels to me like it's been a really good Bootcamp, with lots of NSVs as well as success on the scales. Hopefully today sees another good reading on the scales too!

As I've said on previous threads, just because we've reached the end of this Bootcamp, it doesn't mean that we all just melt away - I'll keep this chat thread going and when it fills up, I'll start another general chat one, so there's always someone here for help and support as well as ongoing low carb stuff.

I'll probably put the big stick back in its cupboard for a while though Grin

Well, I would have blamed it on that, Lizards, were it not for the streaming red eyes and the sneezing. We live in a very rural area and once the rape flowers I do get horrible hay fever, but everything is so far behind with the cold weather, I don't think it can be that. pretty miserable, though.

Eolian · 02/05/2018 10:45

Maybe you've branched out into tree pollen hayfever, cherries - that starts pretty early, I think. Sympathies- hayfever is a bastard. Bizarrely, having children cured mine (but caused me to become intolerant to red wine Confused Angry).

AthelstaneTheUnready · 02/05/2018 11:28

Could well be a specific birch pollen allergy, Cherries - can develop at any age, and the birch is in full swing right now at this latitude. I'm surrounded by fields of rape and they're barely showing a tint as yet.

Nice things, Blunt Wink

Rshard · 02/05/2018 11:40

Morning all

Also chuckling at your aching things @blunt.

Sounds unpleasant @cherries, hope you feel better soon

Bluntness100 · 02/05/2018 14:29

I have to say I'm very distressed that cherries is getting lots of sympathy whilst my achey things aren't being laughed out of school.

Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh-in!
Grimbles · 02/05/2018 14:34

Afternoon all. I don't want to speak too soon but the scales have dropped the last couple of days so hopefully the stall is over!

Had a dental appt. today, my periodontitis is still progressing so I am potentially looking at extraction and dentures/implants in the next few years. I kind of want them to do it now because my teeth look awful and happy and I just want it done with.

On the plus side I've been holiday shopping and it's a great feeling to pick up shorts and flimsy dresses and look kind of ok in them!

ilovecherries · 02/05/2018 19:21

Aw Blunt Grin. (Pats Blunts achey thighs).

Bluntness100 · 02/05/2018 20:36

Congrats on the shorts grimbles and good luck with the teeth.

And thanks cherries 🤣

Rshard · 03/05/2018 09:57

Morning all

After mention of idiots being rude to runners I had a man experience last night. I often fit my run in while dd swims, so last night I’m doing my thing and a smart arse shouts “lets see a sprint”, I resisted the temptation to tell him to FO. Not a nasty comment but completely unnecessary.

Bluntness100 · 03/05/2018 10:22

Morning all.

And sigh rshard, I don't know why blokes do it. 😔

ilovecherries · 03/05/2018 11:25

It's such a pain, Rshard. It was me that had the heckling the other day, and my DD won't run outside anymore. She's 21 and says it just intimidates her too much. It's such a shame, we still pay her gym membership (student!) and she runs there most days, but it's not the same.

Rshard · 03/05/2018 12:27

Me neither @blunt

Ah yes @cherries I remember now. It’s such a shame that your dd feels that way because of a tiny minority of idiots.

The guy who shouted at me was with his wife/partner - if my dh behaved like that.......

Eolian · 03/05/2018 13:17

What idiots. Can't imagine a woman heckling runners...

So... I have realised that my scales randomness seems to be partly, um, digestion-related! Any recommendations for 'keeping regular' on a LC diet? I'm guessing that drinking plenty helps, but are there any BC-approved foods which might be helpful?

Bluntness100 · 03/05/2018 16:29

I personally don't have those issues, but I know on one of the threads people who were taking magnesium supplements found they went to the loo a bit more...

I take one daily, have done for years and have, ehrm. no issues in that department, not sure if the magnesium helps or not.

So maybe try one of those. Additional benefit so to speak...

Eolian · 03/05/2018 17:00

Excellent - will seek out magnesium supplement. Thanks!

BIWI · 05/05/2018 08:04

Are you getting your carbs mainly from vegetables and salad? Are you making sure that your diet is high fat? And are you drinking the amount of water that you should be?

All of those things should help! And don't forget, constipation isn't about going to the loo less - it's about having difficulty and finding it uncomfortable.

A strong coffee first thing in the morning and a high strength Vitamin C tablet can help.

I don't know about the magnesium, but I have heard others talk about it.

Another solution is sugar-free sweets - but go easy on them as they can have dire consequences!!! Grin

LeapinLizards · 05/05/2018 11:50

I'd like to add my own warning about sugar-free sweets. I once ate an entire packet of sugar-free toffees when visiting a friend in Australia - I spent HOURS on the toilet which is not what you want either as a house guest or a host.

ilovecherries · 05/05/2018 14:21

M&S sugar free butterscotch sweets are the work of the devil. I ate them on the beach while walking the dog. The consequences were dire and are now part of family folk lore.

Eolian · 05/05/2018 17:53

And don't forget, constipation isn't about going to the loo less - it's about having difficulty and finding it uncomfortable.

That's a very good point, BIWI. It's noticeably less frequent and inevitably affects the scales but I'm not in discomfort. I still need to drink more water, I think. I always find that hard - silly really!

TerfsUp · 05/05/2018 19:35

Just popping in to say Hi! to everyone. Hope you are keeping on keeping on.

Nan0second · 06/05/2018 06:32

I’m annoyed that I’m awake! I’m post a drunken party and DD isn’t here and yet I’ve woken up at the crack of dawn as if she was!
Moderate amount of carbs eaten in the form of fruit cake and alcohol. I’ll be back on the wagon today...

Tiredemma · 06/05/2018 08:12

I've continued with low carbing but as I posted last week, I was useless at updating the spreadsheet. Weighed myself Friday and total lost to that date was 14.5lbs.

I plan to join the May group and do it properly as I have another stone to get off

Bluntness100 · 06/05/2018 15:19

Well done on the 14.5 pounds, that's fantastic.

On the, ehrm, loo front, I do drink strong black coffee. Not for any laxative effect, but because I love it and need to wake up in the morning. Biwi has made a good point there, if you like coffee have a strong one, it might help.

Cherries, you made me laugh, my father in law when he stopped smoking ate a ton of sugar free mints, the results of which are also in family folk lore.

He was away from the house and any facilities and couldn't get back fast enough, and the phrase "shit me breeks" was used. He never ate a large bag of sugar free mints in one go ever again.🤣

Eolian · 06/05/2018 16:10

I'm mostly a tea person, but occasionally drink (proper ground) decaf coffee, as proper coffee makes me jangly and bad at sleeping. But actually, it does still have that effect a bit, I think. I might have to make it a more regular thing! ShockGrin at 'shit me breeks'!

Mostly I need to drink more WATER . Maybe I need to put a 'Drink some water, you goon!' reminder on my phone...

Destinysdaughter · 07/05/2018 01:37

When I was a smoker ( Vape now ), a fag in the morning always used to make me go!
