Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh-in!

BIWI · 19/03/2018 07:19

Good morning!

Well, we've finally reached the end. Here's the spreadsheet, for the last time

It feels to me like it's been a really good Bootcamp, with lots of NSVs as well as success on the scales. Hopefully today sees another good reading on the scales too!

As I've said on previous threads, just because we've reached the end of this Bootcamp, it doesn't mean that we all just melt away - I'll keep this chat thread going and when it fills up, I'll start another general chat one, so there's always someone here for help and support as well as ongoing low carb stuff.

I'll probably put the big stick back in its cupboard for a while though Grin

Grimbles that's a very good question! Where are you going? I'm off to Marrakech in a month and I'm just going to try and eat healthily, minimise sweets and alcohol and get back on it when I get back. The food looks bloody amazing out there so I'm sure I will put a few pounds on!

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2018 18:20

I just find it a bit bizzare. There Is so much evidence that it works, that it's healthy, it can even reverse type two diabetes. I find myself getting annoyed when folks say things like it's so unhealthy to cut out whole food groups.

Like who the fuck is cutting out whole food groups. Unless you consider bread, cakes or chocolate as a food group in their own right. 🤣

BIWI · 24/03/2018 18:24

Oh yes, @Bluntness100. I've had my arse handed to me countless times on MN that I try not to post about low carbing unless I think it's really going to be a helpful post. And I don't know how many times I've had to point out that it's low carb, not no carb!

@Grimbles - if you enjoyed it, and if you're eating other veg, then I don't see why not!

And to offset the impact of carbs, there are several different things you could try. First, if you know your evening meal is going to be very carby, then keep carbs to the minimum/zero at other meals. Make sure you've eaten breakfast and lunch before, so that you're not starving at dinner, so you can eat smaller portions/swerve as many of the carbs as you can. Drink plenty of water. And the next day, be super strict, drink the water and eat the fat. Exercise of any kind is good. If you're used to exercising, then exercise hard!

@Destinysdaughter - not petty at all Grin

@Lonesurvivor - that's really good to hear, and not uncommon. Just to check though, were you on medication for your blood pressure? If you were, you need to see your GP to make sure either that your dosage is reduced, or to get them to confirm whether or not you need it any more

I’m really really tired.
This is a major trigger for me.
I have eaten a 25g bar of dark chocolate (5g carb in the whole thing so not terrible but I only normally eat 1/3 or half) and I am prowling the kitchen looking at carby foods.
I have a sensible dinner planned (steak burger no bun, mushrooms and celeriac dauphinois) but the cravings are awful.
Typing this mainly to distract myself

Grimbles · 24/03/2018 18:43

I agree bluntness, I actually eat far more veg on this woe than I did whilst eating carbs!

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2018 18:51

Yes I eat healthier, I'm not diving into the millionaires shortbread head first and my meals are veg, salad, meat, eggs, a little cheese, that sort of thing, so there is nothing unhealthy about it. In addition my alcohol consumption is way down and I'm exercising daily as I have rhe energy.

Can't see the issue myself..🤔

Rshard · 24/03/2018 18:51

3 stone is awesome yolo!

That’s a brilliant NSV lone, you must feel better too?

Great job destinys 👊

Thanks grimbles, it was quite liberating tbh! I’m not sure about the answers to your questions, sorry.

I feel the same bluntness, I’ve told so many folk about this woe. It’s altered so many of our lives for the better!

BIWI · 24/03/2018 18:53

@Nan0second - don't do it! If you're hungry, why not have you meal earlier?

Destinysdaughter · 24/03/2018 18:55

Drink some water and eat a piece of cheese?

BlackMozart · 24/03/2018 19:25

bluntness my DD has been away for 4 years but I can’t believe it’s nearly over now. Picking her up from Uni tomorrow. She could come on the train but the two hours I get to spend in the car with her is just our time before we get home to everyone else and I love it. I think she likes it too 😊

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2018 20:52

God. black Mozart. I know. Three years nearly here and it's gone so fast. I was crying my eyes out when she left, can't believe she's nearly done it already.

Nano second, I hope you listened to biwi...

Well, so much for my wine consumption dropping, I've had two small glasses of red whilst watching a movie with my husband, but now stopping, as I really don't want to be hungover to see my daughter tomorrow and want to do the gym also. it's weird, I seem to be able to drink but not get the urge to eat.

That's fairly new for me.,,

Lonesurvivor · 24/03/2018 21:34

Thanks Bibw and Rshad

No Bibw I'm not on meds that was the next step I was meant to go back and get the monitor on and go from there, it had only recently gone into the actual high bracket.
I walked away and decided I had to give myself the best chance I could before starting meds and I'm so glad I did.
I work in a pharmacy so decided today to get checked and it's decreased dramatically.
destinysdaughter re comparison to climate change denier that's so funny and true.

YoLoHogwomanay · 24/03/2018 22:17

thanks to everyone for the congratulations, BUT.....

I still have to lose 2 more pounds to get to the 3 stone mark. It hasn't happened yet!!! But it will Grin

And, the tummy pics aren't mine. Wish they were. My belly is a big wobbly blancmange with train tracks all over it. It's actually looking worse unclothed the more weight I lose. But hey ho. I would rather try and stuff a car crash smaller belly in big knickers than walk around with one the size of a 6 month pregnancy. Before, it came into the room before I did!

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2018 08:02

Morning all.

Yolo, whose tummy did you post then 🤣

Mine is defo mine. Not pretty but as I'm 49 years old I'm not stressed by it. It has been a lot worse, I still need to lose a little more weight, but not much so that's what it's gonna keep looking like.😳

My daughter comes home today, very excited, except my husband has to pop into my brother in laws on the way back to collect something and my sister in law decided to make them Sunday dinner. My husband kept saying no, but they were very insistent, and as much as it's lovely gesture, I'm a little peeved as I wanted to do that and have a nice family meal since I haven't seen her since the end of the year.😔

AthelstaneTheUnready · 25/03/2018 08:12

Thanks for the encouragement and the thwacks. Shag, I know from experience what you say is true, just can't seem to turn it from knowledge to action.

YoLo, thanks for the prompt to think in a bit more detail. It is indeed the alcohol that sets me off, but not always... and I've worked out why that is. If I get dinner ready, and then sit down with a glass of wine 10 mins before it's done, I don't want another and I don't drink with the food. If I don't have a glass first, then I have no desire for one during or after dinner. BUT, if I have a glass of wine before even starting to prepare, that's when it all goes wildly wrong. So no more wine unless dinner's nearly ready.

I have a gynae op grin scar from hip to hip - from when I was 20. It bulged for some years, but when I was subsequently at my fittest and lowest weight (still well within the normal BMI), I not only had a flat stomach, but a concave one, so I'm telling you all that you can most definitely get rid of it - it is not a permanent fixture! (Yes, some core exercises were involved, but nothing dramatic - just regular callanetics at home).

Lone, that's fantastic news about your blood pressure! And Grimbles, great to hear you actually enjoyed your egg fast. Next time I stall for more than a few weeks, I'm definitely going to give that a go.

Time, I hope your run went well, and you gained a lot of satisfaction from being out in the rain. I ended up doing 6 hours straight gardening, resulting in a 24 hour fast, so hoping I've headed off a bit of the damage I did.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 25/03/2018 08:14

x-posted Bluntness, sorry! That's really tactless of them to hijack your first day of reunion Angry. Do you have anything planned for you all, or are you just going to take it as it comes?

Rshard · 25/03/2018 08:32

Morning everyone

Oh bluntness, that’s really overstepping the mark.

StuntNun · 25/03/2018 08:33

WayoftheWorld and Blunt I'm jealous of your tiny c-section overhangs. Mine never looked that good even when my BMI was 22. Pickle you should be able to get rid of the overhang by having a very low body fat percentage, i.e. 20% or lower, so you need to lose weight and gain muscle to do that. I was doing a lot of weight training (Stronglifts) a few years back but it was all scuppered by getting pregnant and I've never managed to find time to get back into it.

Grimbles there is a Facebook group for people doing the egg fast every week so that might work. I think it's too low in protein so in my opinion it would be better to add in some meat rather than veggies. If you're planning to eat carbs then the best time to exercise is straight afterwards as that will burn off the glucose before it is laid down as glycogen.

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2018 08:46

They don't have any kids, and I suspect she's thinking he will have been driving for six hours so making them dinner is nice, but yeah I'm a little peeved and trying not to think negatively. We've also not told our daughter as doubt she will be well chuffed she needs to go to her aunts for dinner before coming home, so it's going to be an ambush 😳

Stunt, it's not tiny, but thank you, I think what's interesting to me, is I've never seen any one else's before and I've realised just how much longer mine is. The one yolo posted is so much shorter.

Athel, I doubt I will ever get rid of mine, sigh, although agree I could if my body weight was low enough...don't want to go there though.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 25/03/2018 08:55

Blunt, I didn't have to drop my bodyweight really low - I was in the normal BMI range. I think I just wanted to emphasise that 'never/ever' isn't true. It can be done, and without going overboard.

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2018 09:06

Ah, I'm not disagreeing,,,I'm trying to think if I ever didn't have it and I do think at one stage it was smaller when I was younger,, but I tend to carry my weight on my tummy,,🤔

Nan0second · 25/03/2018 09:15

Thanks all. I was strong and didn’t snack. Drank some water and distracted myself. Treated myself to a small glass of wine after dinner (the one planned) and slept very well. Woke up feeling good.
It really helped posting on here - focussed me on why I’m doing this.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 25/03/2018 09:20

I’m inspired by Athel’s belly tale. I would SO love a flat stomach. It is going down with the running, but I still have a overhang and always have, despite no pregnancies. Though, actually, my stomach now looks weird. Instead of one section of fat it is now a three-pack of fat. Very odd!

My run yesterday was fun, but tiring. I was going to post after but it was too much bother! Honestly, it took me over half an hour to have a shower and drag myself out of it when I was done. I was comatose. It didn’t start well. Since I’d gone out, last week, after a full English and lots of coffee (I usually have 1 drink and no food) and been fine I thought I’d have something to eat again this week, esp as I wasn’t going out to the afternoon. I had two boiled eggs mashed with butter, and then got a stitch before I’d got off the sofa! It did go, eventually.

I then did about half my warmup walk before realising my NotAFitBit was still on charge, and as I’d wanted to set a halfway alarm on it (so I wouldn’t have to faff getting plus I wanted the steps I went back for it, only to be passed by enthusiastically waving friends, who thought I on the homeward straight. Whoops!

I did get out, eventually. Wanted to do 5 miles so, though I started running sooner than I had last week, meant I had to go further the other end, which meant going down more of a steepish hill. I turned round, looked at the slope and went “O f*!”. I did get up it, jogging very slowly, and made it home with only stoping a couple of times. It was raining for a lot of it but only lightly so it wasn’t too bad. I ran 5.25 miles in the end, so not that much further to go to push it to 10K (though there‘s more of THAT hill to do!).

Destinysdaughter · 25/03/2018 09:35

I'm in awe of anyone who runs, my boobs are too big and it hurts!

Just popped on to share a new website I discovered. It's got lots of good keto/paleo recipes on, I especially like the look of her nut bread. Not tried making low carb bread yet but will have a go and report back!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 25/03/2018 09:38

Bluntness it was me that posted the c-section/stomach pics - I put them up as a contrast to the ski trouser ones to show where I carry the weight on my stomach. I've started doing Pilates in an effort to reduce it.

How annoying for you re: your SIL though! It sounds very kind but once your DH had refused she shouldn't have kept pushing it.

Food yesterday was ok - I tried celeriac chips and they got a bit cremated whilst I was putting DC to bed Sad. Most of them were still vaguely edible and I had them with steak and spinach.

Off skiing next week - to Italy - so will probably have to go off-piste a bit see what I did there but plan on sticking to plan this week and doing an egg fast when I get back.
