Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh-in!

BIWI · 19/03/2018 07:19

Good morning!

Well, we've finally reached the end. Here's the spreadsheet, for the last time

It feels to me like it's been a really good Bootcamp, with lots of NSVs as well as success on the scales. Hopefully today sees another good reading on the scales too!

As I've said on previous threads, just because we've reached the end of this Bootcamp, it doesn't mean that we all just melt away - I'll keep this chat thread going and when it fills up, I'll start another general chat one, so there's always someone here for help and support as well as ongoing low carb stuff.

I'll probably put the big stick back in its cupboard for a while though Grin

I second a good stretch before and after running.

Rayna37 · 30/04/2018 08:10

I've gone a bit wild with carbs over the last few days and have gained some lbs accordingly. Not really sure why other than holiday mentality (off tomorrow) and I think also the start date for the next boot camp weirdly making it seem ok?! Will aim for a good day and do my best while I'm away (they don't really have deep fried mars bars in Scotland, right?!).

I'll go against the grain with the running and say stretching and warm ups over rated!! Definitely no need to stretch beforehand and I don't warm up if going for a slow/long run, only if racing/something faster, unless it's the middle of winter! Stretching afterwards is good and while I always do it on a run that finishes at home, if I'm out and about it can be a bit patchy, not crucial. Also don't sweat about your running gait, how you run is how you run and you'll likely do more harm trying to alter that than if you stayed how you were. Lovely to see all these new runners on here!

Bluntness100 · 30/04/2018 09:04

Morning all.

Nothing to report here...just saying hi. 😁

AthelstaneTheUnready · 30/04/2018 09:47

Ahhh, @BIWI, it's my syntax at fault, sorry!

When I say "more running than walking", I don't mean overall pace, I mean I ran slightly longer running sections than the inbetween walking sections. So two minutes running, then one minute walking, IYSWIM. Because I do already do a fair amount of physical activity, plus some fell-walking, I thought I would see how far I could get without getting painfully out of breath, and it turns out that 2 minutes is my maximum. Blush

Rayna, an impending new BC has also done funny things to my attitude to carbs, so knocking that on the head as of today.

Morning, Blunt! Grin

Rshard · 30/04/2018 10:24

I’ve had a few carbs over the weekend too rayna, controlled indulgences that I enjoyed but back on it today like athle.

Waves to blunt

TimeIhadaNameChange · 30/04/2018 11:41

Well done, Athel - I was going to send you a message to say good luck, but I see you've already been out. My advice would be to very much stick to what C25K says (do what I say and not what I did!) and do the 5 mins walk to start with. More importantly, when you're running SLOW DOWN!!!!! Go as slow as you can, then slow it down some more, especially at first. You'll feel like an idiot but it will mean you can go for longer.

I've taken the plunge. Applied for the Glasgow half marathon in September!!!!! And entered the London Marathon ballot. This is seriously not me!!!

Have decided to go for Pie and Mash for Wednesday, minus the mash. This does sort of depend on my being able to acquire proper beef suet from the butcher's. We'll see.

Need to sign myself up for the next BC. I would like to get rid of the final half stone and I know I can do it if I put my mind to it. I'm also considering an egg fast for the end of this week as DP is finally away (which makes it easier as I don't have to worry about what he'd think / eat) but at least one meal has to be eaten in front of children, so I need it to look fairly 'normal'. I'm thinking egg wraps filled with cheese.

Eolian · 30/04/2018 13:02

I've been LCing for a couple of weeks now, but the scales are up and down like a yo-yo and this morning I was exactly the same weight as I was when I started.

I'm sure it's because I haven't been full-on Bootcamp-strict (have had some nuts, berries etc and a couple of glasses of wine at the weekend, plus probably a bit too much dairy and not enough water).

I know that I will lose weight by being stricter (which I'm now going to do), but it's got me wondering about the long-term 'maintenance' aspect and about how LC you need to be once you've got to the weight you want. Any wise words, BCers?

It's confusing, because my dad has just lost a couple of stone, reversed his pre-diabetes and lowered his bp by doing a much less strict LC diet (no sugar, bread, pasta, potatoes etc but still has a big bowl of muesli every morning and eats carrots, peppers, some fruit etc). He also makes no particular attempt to eat high fat. He's had to reintroduce carbs a bit more now because he doesn't need to lose any more, but was still losing weight!

BIWI · 30/04/2018 13:11

@Eolian - the key thing to bear in mind is that your weight will naturally fluctuate anyway, on a daily basis. So even when you've reached your target you should expect it to go up and down.

The best thing is to have a range in mind that you're happy with - i.e. target +/- 5lbs, and if you go over that consistently then you get back to strict low carbing.

Don't worry about your dad. It's a sad and irritating that men seem to lose more easily and more quickly then women! (But great for him that he's reversed pre-diabetes!)

Thanks BIWI! I'm more curious than disheartened tbh, because anyway I actually feel so much better than I did 2 weeks ago, and definitely a little slimmer around the middle. I've started running again and going to the gym, so that will be making a difference too. Looking forward to Bootcamp proper! Oh and yy to the irritating weight-losing men!

Destinysdaughter · 30/04/2018 17:58

Well, I started LC 3 Jan and DP did Slimming World at same time. We had both lost the same amount of weight, but he put on 2lbs on hol and another 2lbs last week! I think it's much easier to cheat on something like SW as you can eat anything and so you can say, oh well,I'll eat this chocolate bar today and cut back tomorrow. Except you don't. I like this diet as the rules are pretty cut and dried and therefore I'm not tempted to cheat. Apart from alcohol, which is allowed ( in moderation...) 😀

BerylStreep · 30/04/2018 21:35

Who was it who asked about dairy free and gluten free recipes? I can recommend the Whole30 cookbook. The majority of the recipes are quite low carb as well.

I've just wolfed down turkey burgers with a roasted fennel and garlic mayo from that book. Will be having mortician spiced lamb and cauliflower rice tomorrow, and charred almond crusted turkey escalopes with minted cauliflower rice the next day.

New job still shit and stressful 😪. Am hoping it will get better, but I've committed to a dry May, so I need to knock the stress wine on the head.

BIWI · 30/04/2018 21:37

mortician spiced lamb?! Grin

(Sorry to hear about the job, btw.)

LeapinLizards · 30/04/2018 22:17

Oh no beryl. I mustve missed the post about new job - very sorry to hear it's so stressful. I can relate to stress wine. Prob good to go dry got may. Hope it is just teething problems & job settles soon

Rshard · 01/05/2018 07:15

Sorry to hear the new job is stressful beryl, your menu sounds delicious though.

Rshard · 01/05/2018 08:36

Interesting article on bbc this morning, research suggesting eating a high carb diet may hasten the menopause - www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-43948399

Bluntness100 · 01/05/2018 09:21

Morning all.

Beautiful day here is sunny West Sussex.

And my friggen thighs ache...again 🤣

Rshard, that actually might be an incentive to eat high carb,,,

Beryl, sorry about the job, maybe it will get easier as you settle in?

Rshard · 01/05/2018 09:35

Yes possibly blunt...

Destinysdaughter · 01/05/2018 11:37

Ive got a huge bag of spinach to use up so did a bit of googling and found this recipe. It looks yummy so thought I'd share it with you all! If it works, could be a good one for a dinner party? It's also vegetarian 😀

LeapinLizards · 01/05/2018 13:17

@Destinys that looks fab - thanks for sharing. I've bookmarked it to try.

Nan0second · 01/05/2018 13:43

That does like nice.
I made a chicken saag yesterday which was deliver - would work well with any meat or paneer though!

Nan0second · 01/05/2018 13:43

Deliver = delicious

Bluntness100 · 02/05/2018 08:55

Morning all. How's everyone today?

My things still friggen ache. No gym today though, sigh, hopefully they will recover.....😔

ilovecherries · 02/05/2018 09:13

Morning Blunt. I LOOK like I've had an allergic reaction to something (eyes so red and swollen I can't even think about contacts, sneezing and itching inside my ears), but no idea to what given it's raining and only 5C! So feeling sorry for myself, somewhat.

LeapinLizards · 02/05/2018 09:54

@blunt I'm laughing at your things aching Grin. @cherries, it's not that awful itching that's related to LCing back, is it?
