Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh-in!

BIWI · 19/03/2018 07:19

Good morning!

Well, we've finally reached the end. Here's the spreadsheet, for the last time

It feels to me like it's been a really good Bootcamp, with lots of NSVs as well as success on the scales. Hopefully today sees another good reading on the scales too!

As I've said on previous threads, just because we've reached the end of this Bootcamp, it doesn't mean that we all just melt away - I'll keep this chat thread going and when it fills up, I'll start another general chat one, so there's always someone here for help and support as well as ongoing low carb stuff.

I'll probably put the big stick back in its cupboard for a while though Grin

Athel - I presume you already have walking socks but if not, I’d get some. You can get running socks, but I’ve not bothered, just use my hiking ones and I’ve been fine. No blisters, even after yesterday. (And that’s wearing trainers bought online, so it’s not like I tried loads on to get the best fit. Not that I’d recommend buying them online but, living where I do it’s either that or wait months til I visit a city.)

Rayna37 · 28/04/2018 08:28

Leapin I've never found front opening necessary. I recommend Shock Absorber but they do lots of styles, the one you need is called Run. The rest while great for the gym, classes or lower impact stuff aren't the same for actually running. All depends on boob size I guess though.

MrsBertBibby · 28/04/2018 08:52

I have found M&S ones much cheaper and perfectly adequate.

Plain black sport leggings from TXMaxx because I am a miser

Big old T shirt.

I do spend on trainers though as they genuinely matter. If you are running on grass, trail shoes will give you better grip. I would go to a running place that will do you a gait analysis so you get the right kind for you. I found them perfectly pleasant and unintimidating, despite my total amateurishness.

Bluntness100 · 28/04/2018 09:48

Morning all

I've no idea what my sports bra make is, Ive one sweaty Betty one but the one I wear all the time I got off of amazon. It's back fastening. I remember though it was a high impact/high control one and the reviews were excellent. I can't remember the term they use, ie high impact or high control or whatever for sports bras, but if running uou want to have the one that minimises bounce the most.

It's nigh on impossible to run properly whilst holding your boobs,,and not something uou want to do in public 🤪

Bluntness100 · 28/04/2018 09:56

Oh and I have guests for dinner tonight. Although the meal is easy for me to stay low carb with, dessert is sticky toffee pudding.,,which I shall be having,,yum.

And we have two ducks which apparently have come to live in the garden, they just wander around or swim about in the stream. They are quite comical, if I walk past them when they are on the grass they walk alongside me for a bit, I'm starting to feel like they are pets 🤣

LeapinLizards · 28/04/2018 10:57

Thanks @Rayna

Rshard · 28/04/2018 12:19

Your running antics made me chuckle time! I’m also in the market for a new running bra so interesting to hear the praise for the shock absorber.

I’m sat at a swimming gala and didn’t bring running gear as the weather is shocking but there’s a gym that I could of gone in and done a bit on the treadmill. Am kicking myself. This is a big change in my mind set!

Destinysdaughter · 28/04/2018 12:29

Hi all. Er something rather strange has happened...

Before I went on my carby Moroccan holiday I was 10 stone 10. After eating all the carbs I came back and I was 11stone 1. However I just weighed myself and I've gone down to 10 stone 8 in a week!! How is that possible? That's 6lbs in a week!

Is this the famous carb refeed I've read about kick starting weight loss? I'm very pleased but a bit puzzled. Any ideas?

MrsBertBibby · 28/04/2018 12:39

Well, I'm down 6 pounds in my first week of low carbs. It's pretty astonishing, isn't it?

BIWI · 28/04/2018 12:59

@LeapinLizards that's a good idea - there are already lots of resources on there, but a FAQ section sounds like a positive addition

Feeling a bit wobbly today. Have eaten (cheese, leaves, avocado, more cheese, oil on salad and cherry toms). Drinking water. Any tips, or just keep on.

Almahart · 28/04/2018 13:50

Hallo all. Already feeling a little more energetic and not at all tempted by bread. Still drinking wine though, always my Achilles heel.

Bf was chia porridge with berries
Lunch 2 sausages and scrambled eggs
Snack Greek yoghurt and blueberries

3ibs down but cd do with being stricter, I know that’s just water

BIWI · 28/04/2018 14:01

@MrsBertBibby - you could need to eat more sodium - try having a hot drink made from Oxo/Bovril or Marmite and see if that helps.

Destiny, i suspect you were retaining a lot of fluid. I also think eating some carbs now and again can kick start weight loss.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 28/04/2018 15:28

Dislocating your shoulder, Time Shock

Too late, got an all in one. Reduced from £50 to £6, so worth a punt - Zohkti, I think it's spelled. Just tried it on and wriggled in and out without pulling a muscle, which is good. Then went for a walk up an extremely steep 800 foot fell, with an extremely steep descent the other side. Legs a bit wobbly, but views astonishing.

And WHAT is with running bras coming in sizes 10/12/14 etc, or S, M, L etc!? They're bras, so where is the sizing Angry.

Have found some old cut off leggings from when I did martial arts in my 30s (now that gives you a stomach of iron), plus an XXL sweatshirt from a previous job, so am all set first thing Monday morning to head out looking like a lunatic. Plan is to go really early on the road outside the house - it's very up and down, but I thought I would walk the up and run the across and downs. May not take more than about 10mins each way, but then I doubt I'll be able to keep going for 10mins each way, so we'll see.

Good going, Bert Grin

Eolian · 28/04/2018 15:42

I think I'm going by roughly Bootcamp Light rules atm but will be stricter once BC proper starts. Off to do my weekly Aldi shop tomorrow. Anyone got any particular suggestions as to nice filling LC things to stock up on?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 28/04/2018 15:51

Athel - see, you did the sensible thing and did a test run with your bra! My first attempt was post workout when I knackered, and it hadn’t occurred to me that getting out of the bloody thing would be in any way challenging, so I wasn’t prepared. Plus, you got a decent one which is probably easier to get on and off than my cheapo one.

I’d reconsider your walking uphill running downhill plan, unless, by walking the fells so much your knees are immune to the declines. I buggered my knee up a month back by running downhill and it still hasn’t forgiven me. Stick with the C5K timings (was it you who was going to do a timed playlist???) and just run slowly, very slowly, whether running up or down.

And enjoy! We will be expecting a report from you on Monday!

ilovecherries · 28/04/2018 15:54

When I restarted running, I did the 'run your first mile' programme from a FB group, then a 'run your first 5k' run by the same people. Now I'm trying to move up to 10k if my leg holds out, I'm Jeffing it on a 30:30 ratio. I wear M&S running gear and a bravissimo sports bra (which does have cup sizes) and I'm neurotically careful about trainers.

Bluntness100 · 28/04/2018 16:31

Oh I just remembered years ago I bought a sports bra that actually had no fastenings and I attempted to put it on at the gym and then spent a few mins bent over like the hunch back of notradam, with my boobs hanging out trying to get it on. Got all hot. sweaty and out of breath, as you do. It's one of those things, once you've started, you can't stop till you get the bugger on due to the utter humiliation. You can't just give up, shout fuck it, and go home because you can't get your bra on. Then you've got to style it out like that didn't just happen and it wasn't you.🤣

If I remember correctly I left with it still on, in my gym gear, and took it off in the privacy of my own home wnd binned it...

Rayna37 · 28/04/2018 18:36

Eolian my LCHF Aldi tips are Manchego cheese, frozen Cauli rice, pork belly strips, cavolo nero if they have it in, generally meat and fish, loads of great dairy, veg etc! I think the chipolatas are the only very LC sausages there so do read the packaging carefully.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 28/04/2018 19:17

Burp.

I have been RAVENOUS these past two days. Don't know what's up. Have already had: ham, tomatoes, goat's cheese, olives, feta, squid, prawns, octopus, blueberries, double fried egg and mayonnaise sandwich (GF gooey bread), yoghurt, walnuts, big bowl broccoli, 1/4 pack butter, slab of ribeye, 1 boiled egg, fistful of chives and sorrel from the garden, 2 bits 100% chocolate, and an emergency lamb chop just now.

Still hungry.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 28/04/2018 20:11

DP wants to go to an event on Wed. It’s free, but you need to take a dish to share. I need ideas! I’m not too bothered about it being LCHF but we can’t afford to spend loads. Would probably have to be prepped and cooked Tues, unless it’s very quick to do. Not fish or seafood.

Any suggestions? Will have to pick up ingredients tomorrow, so it doesn’t give me much time to think of something. Help!

BlackMozart · 28/04/2018 20:21

Just popping in after a few weeks out.
Twinkle I was so sorry to read your news. I hope you are doing ok.
ilove as others have said, what a bunch of twats.

I will check in on the new thread although still feeling very sorry for myself so if I can’t get motivated in the next two weeks I will keep out of the way.

Nice to read all the success and koko stories though.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 28/04/2018 20:28

Hi, Mozart!

Time, what sort of food is it - people helping themselves from the side, or an actual dish to heat up in the oven and serve on the table?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 28/04/2018 20:49

I've just looked at the map Blush. It was in fact 800 metres up and down, not 800 feet. I will excuse my legs this once.
