Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

We've reached the half way part now, and I hope you're finding it a bit easier - no more carb flu, and getting used to a different way of eating.

If you've suffered from the week 3, 4 or even 5 stall, I hope that this week you'll see the scales start to move (downwards!) again.

I hope you all have a good week

Cherrypi ooh cheese scones sound nice! Are they on the recipe threads?

Dakota I still have milk in my tea though now down to probably only three cups a day. I’m drinking the water instead now, so I think that’s replacing the seven cups I used to get through! I do also have a coffee each day but I have cream in that. I’ve given up my daily latte (no choice now as my coffee machine blew up yesterday 😔 but I was just using it to make americano). From reading the messages some people find dairy stalls them, though I seem to be living on cream. Over boot camp so far I’ve lost 5lb which I suppose isn’t loads but I’m happy with a steady loss.

dakota, I still have milk in tea but like eee, drink far less than I used to as I’m glugging water all day long these days. If we’re grabbing a coffee out, I will go for an americano or an almond milk cappuccino if it’s Starbucks

Yes on the vegetarian one Destinysdaughter. They use ground almonds and are very yummy.

@TheWayOfTheWorld and @Spiderkitty thanks for your menus. What carbonara recipes are you using? I have a lot of smoked ham in the fridge that I wouldn't mind using up.

Signing on quickly. Not had a chance to have lunch today been in the lab all day!

Might have to stop for something from lidl on the way home as I still need to do the horses.

Up a bit this week because I had what I wanted in Saturday night at the Indian. No regrets!

Hello all! Can I join in? I know I'm late but I'd really like to start low carving again. I'm gaining and losing the same lb at slimming world and I'm miserable. I'd like to start eating delicious food again. May still go to SW and get weighed though... let me know.

Plateaued again after last week's loss. I'm resigned now to this being slow and steady!

@JingsMahBucket I'm making the Low carb Courgetti Carbonara which is on page 4 of the meat recipes sticky, I bet the smoked ham would work well in it!

Report
TheWayOfTheWorld · 12/02/2018 17:45

JingsMahBucket mine is a bastardisation of a non-low carb version:

(Serves 2)

  • spiralise 3 courgettes and sauté in butter/garlic oil until soft (I press them between teatowels to remove moisture first)
  • separate pan: generous knob of butter, sauté shallots (I use half a pack of Waitrose ready diced frozen ones)
  • add chopped up bacon rashers (4) and asparagus spears (probably 10-12, I like asparagus!) and cook down; add more butter if pan dries out.
  • once cooked, add some spinach to wilt and then a good slosh of double cream. Mix in with courgetti and devour!

It keeps well, so I put half in a tub and have it for lunch or dinner the next day.

About milk in tea and coffee. As far as I know there are two issues. One is that milk is much carbier than cream, all down to the lactose sugars, so total carbs can start to creep up. The second is that lots of people are unable to process lactose (some people lack the enzyme required to process it), so it can contribute to inflammation and indirectly cause weight gain / stall.

Cream has minimal lactose, as does butter, and to a lesser extent, cheese, which is why some people can tolerate them, but not milk or yoghurt.

I'm now just over a week in (please could I be added to the spreadsheet? - I started last Saturday 3rd Feb). I've lost 1kg - from 75.5 to 74.5 and 2inches off my waist. I'm not having any trouble sticking to it - It's the first diet I've tried where I'm not hungry ALL THE TIME!

There were a few miscalculations last week where I ate more carbs than I thought I had (I think I've got that under control now), so I'm happy with 1kg, but hoping for more this week.

Today, I have had
B 10cal jelly (before I went running - I can't run on a full stomach) and 1 ryvita wholewheat crispbread thing (only 3.5g Carb) with butter and smoked cheese
L Bacon, Mushrooms and scrambled egg
T Salmon, Caesar salad (minus the croutons) and home made coleslaw

B: Leftover celeriac with a bit of cream cheese
S: Pork scratchings and piece of cheese
L: Leftover coconut pork with a load of rocket and some grated cheese
D: Courgetti carbonara (with was very tasty!)

Have started writing down some mini goals, planning on giving myself a little a treat on each of them. I've not bought any new clothes since having a baby as I've been feeling rubbish about how much weight I put on during pregnancy and have lacked the confidence to go shopping, so I'm going to go and get a few bits when I hit my first mini goal! Smile

Welcome aboard lana. Lots of motivation and advice here.

I’ve just made the low carb loaf from The Londoner, that a boot camper recommended (sorry can’t remember who). I just sampled a bit and it’s gorgeous so thanks!

I really fancy cheese scones now!

Day 8 booze free. No cravings Smile

Breakfast was sausage and scrambled eggs, lunch out and about was a cold sausage, salted almonds and some chorizo chips from m&s so that’s quite crap. Dinner was salmon fried til crispy in a bed of leeks with tartar sauce made from ff yoghurt and capers. It’s one of my fave lc meals

Evening all, and to new people.

I am on my 27th consecutive day of weighing exactly the same (an extended stall alright), but have felt distinctly weird today - weepy and waily - so am hoping it's the same hormonal craziness that happened when I shed a load of weight in the first few weeks, i.e. fat cells releasing their load. I have been desperately craving trifle (trifle!? Confused) all day - the proper 70's version with sponge fingers and hundreds and thousands. I haven't eaten that since I was about eight, (mainly because it's absolutely gopping) so it's actually quite a nice change to have a craving that I have absolutely no intention whatsoever of fulfilling.

Counting my other blessings over the last week alone: my face continues to develop contours (going in under my cheekbones not straight down!); my skin has suddenly developed Galadriel levels of creaminess; I have FINALLY lost an inch off my hips and another inch off my waist; my thighs have just developed a hint of contour; I exceeded my personal best for (knee) push ups this morning to 12; and lastly, I am a little pocket furnace. It's hovered around freezing here today, and I have been pottering about outside in just a cardigan, and have not needed the heating on all day in just normal clothes. I have warmed up MASSIVELY over the last few weeks, and could hire out my hands and feet as radiators for the elderly. Dunno what that's about.

So, resigned to my stall as long as the above continue Grin

Meat free Monday here! Started this year as we realised how rare a vegetarian main meal was since getting further into this WoE.
B: mushroom omelette
L: kale and Brussels microwaved with some butter and a grating of mature cheddar
D: quick easy standby of halloumi, buttery cavolo nero and hm ratatouille (from the freezer). Some Greek yogurt as a pud. If I'm honest I prefer the "Greek style" rather than the Greek yogurt (Aldi but like Total/Fage I think) but putting up with it for now to keep the carbs as low as poss.
About there with water and just 2 coffees, 1 with cream, 1 milk. Big end of 1st phase weigh in tomorrow morning!

Yeah, the '70's ended just in time, Rshard. Although not quite in time to avoid my mother sending me off to my first proper disco in navy corduroy knickerbockers and a turquoise silk shirt.

Athelstane I LOVE trifle. For all my foodie cook from scratch snobbery, it's the one thing that has to be old school rubbish: cheap Swiss roll, tinned strawberries, birds custard from powder, Harvey's Bristol Cream, jelly, cream... I did make an amazing Black Forest trifle this Christmas with home made brownies ... one of the reasons I'm here now I supposeSmile
I'm really not into all these low carb sweet recipes using sweetener etc I'd generally rather just go without, but I am tempted by the Tom Kerridge Tiramisu I've seen up the thread!
