Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

We've reached the half way part now, and I hope you're finding it a bit easier - no more carb flu, and getting used to a different way of eating.

If you've suffered from the week 3, 4 or even 5 stall, I hope that this week you'll see the scales start to move (downwards!) again.

I hope you all have a good week

Good idea. I have lost one of these on BC.

Week 6 - Low Carb Bootcamp - welcome to part 2
Nan0second · 15/02/2018 20:53

Love the animal pics.
Apparently I have lost the equivalent of 42 blueberry muffins!
(Found a website that compares weights to other things...)
That’s only 4.2kg so nothing like as spectacular as above but still is highly motivating given it has only been 4.5 weeks for me. (Plus I’m out of the week 4 still according to the scales today)

Went to a birthday party this afternoon. Managed to ignore the sandwiches, cake, sweets and crisps (which normally I would have nibbled continuously). I ate 2 strawberries and 2 blueberries and then came home and ate the idiot proof moussaka that I made this morning. I’m so proud of myself.

BerylStreep · 15/02/2018 21:37

Cherries, I think sometimes worrying about things in advance is so much worse than it actually is. I'm not a nurse, but if I was, and was weighing you, I'd be so impressed and want to know how you had done it. You never know, you could maybe come away with a few new recruits to the thread!

Sayrra - glad the interview seemed to go well.

My food for today:
B: Coffee with AM&C, poached egg, sausage & bacon
L: Crunchy salad (celery, radish, spring onion & romaine) in mayo, coleslaw and mackerel pate. Lidl greek yoghurt
S: 1/2 packet of macadamias, some raspberries & blueberries with cream (working late, so this was about 5pm)
D: leftover steak with green beans, shallots & garlic

I'm off tomorrow, so will hopefully get round to doing some of the things on my to do list. I have a curtain to finish, which will only take about 2 hours to do, but I hung the other one on Christmas Eve and still haven't finished this one!

BumbleBeef30 · 15/02/2018 21:42

Gorgeous dog, abbey.

B mushrooms and goats cheese
L beef madras (a meal out to celebrate with a friend, and to my amazement I avoided the rice, naan and poppadoms quite easily)
D spaghetti bolognese with courgette, red pepper and broccoli, and celeriac chips instead of spaghetti
W 2.5 litres, so not enough

Bluntness100 · 15/02/2018 21:47

Just popping in again to say that dog is gorgeous. I seriously considered getting one at one point, they are so beautiful. It was the, exercise requirements that put me off and husband talking me out of it but god they are lovely.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 16/02/2018 06:36

Bah humbug. One of my lbs is back on.

Only one though, so... still finally a lb down after the longest stall in the history of all histories.

Am off for a weekend with friends - no idea what we'll be eating, when, or where, but fairly sure I will manage. Have a good one, everyone.

Twoo · 16/02/2018 06:45

Great news Athel’ , losing always give a good feeling Grin.

Twoo · 16/02/2018 06:49

’World, I’m a daily weigher too. Yes my graphics go up and down too, but overall I’m down ... I think. I find seeing the graphics motivating and it does aid me sticking to plan.

Twoo · 16/02/2018 07:11

Sayrra I have everything crossed for you. Good luck!

’Cherries you have done fantastically well. You look awesome! Keep going and that pesky 5lb will come off.

Sorry Athel’ crossed post. I was saying losing was great news, not putting on a lb.

Yesterday I took one of my nieces out for the day. When it came to time to eat, the options were wall to wall carbs (I know I should have gone prepared but was running late as it takes me an age to just get myself together, washed & dressed etc). I thought, oh no this is the day I take a tumble from the wagon’.

All I could see was sausage rolls, pasties, chips, pie, beans, pasta, rice, sandwiches, paninis, scones, cake. It was a carb lovers dream. Then I saw it. A glistening golden tray of loveliness .... cauliflower and broccoli cheese bake.

Never in my life was I so happy to see vegatables Grin . Also they had fresh cream to have with my coffee.

Out for a full day and stayed totally on track. Not lost weight though Hmm

Rayna37 · 16/02/2018 07:55

Daily weigher on a stall here, 8 days cycling up and down within a 0.8lb window! KOKOing though and resisted all the plentiful carbs on offer at a friend's place yesterday with ease. Have managed to get into the mindset that it's simply not allowed.
I have treated myself to "porridge" this morning, my first nod to boot camp light. 20g each of flaxseed, chia and ground almonds (the latter replaced my normal oat bran) plus some coconut oil, peanut butter and milk.

ASDismynormality · 16/02/2018 08:03

188.8 lbs on the scales this morning, such a satisfying number!

Mimosa1 · 16/02/2018 08:47

Rayna i love porridge. Could you tell me a bit more about how you made yours? And how was it?

ASD - that's IS a satisfying number!

Going to a conference today - hope there will be some good options.

AveAtqueVale · 16/02/2018 09:10

What a lovely dog! Have a look at this website which calculates your weight in various animals. I have lost one and a half koalas and weigh slightly more than a harbour seal Grin.

SoMuchToBits · 16/02/2018 09:16

cherries, you've done amazingly well! It's so not worth giving in to cake at this point (or probably ever really). You'd probably feel really rubbish if you did eat it (both physically and psychologically). But you know that!

And those 5lb will go, it's just a matter of time. I spent all January thinking I just wasn't going to lose any more weight, but now we're into February a couple of pounds have dropped off. You're such an example of how this WOE does work over the long term too, so don't lose faith now!

Yesterday I went to Prezzo for lunch with ds. He had a calzone, I had two starters (meatballs and baked mushrooms). Prior to bootcamp I would probably have had pasta, but I really didn't miss it at all. Last night's dinner was a creamy lamb curry with buttered courgettes.

Today I think we'll have roasted veg salad with halloumi for lunch, and Greek baked chicken for dinner.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 16/02/2018 09:41

I'm a wee bit cross. Now been going for 12 days and the little loss I had has gone back on. I'm still the same weight as I was at the start - it's rather dispiriting, isn't it!
I cut down on the cherries - switched to raspberries and blackberries instead - haven't been having anything else I shouldn't, drinking more water, and STILL not losing. :(
Humph.
Not giving up yet, just wish I was seeing some benefit...

Sounds good, Sayrra - hope you get it!

orkneyfudge · 16/02/2018 09:43

Hello!

A quick question please! I'm making broccoli & stilton soup for lunch and have put in all the old broccoli I found in the fridge - nearly 3 heads. Other ingredients are 200g shallots, Marigold bouillion, extra water & Asda stilton. I've put in the ingredients into MFP and allowed for 8 portions. This calculates as 17g carbs per bowl!!

Have I made a mistake by putting in so much brocolli? Have a miscalculated? What should I do???? Please be kind, I'm trying!

Rayna37 · 16/02/2018 09:53

Orkneyfudge your ingredients sound reasonable. How about trying to calculate the carb counts of each component manually (I.e. data from web or better the packaging and a calculator) and seeing if anything stands out.

orkneyfudge · 16/02/2018 10:24

@Rayna37, thank you! I have recalculated using info from Sainsburys website and guesswork/overestimating putting each (large) head of broccoli at 500g? So even allowing for only 6 portions, it now works out at 11.5g carbs per bowl or at 8 portions (unsure how many I'll get out of pot) at 8.6g per bowl. Still a bit high but just planning goats cheese salad for tea so hopefully will still come in at my daily target. Thank you.

Rayna37 · 16/02/2018 10:24

Mimosa ah, porridge, I can talk about this for some time... I'm known for trying to convert anyone at mine for breakfast to my weird porridge and laughing at others basic porridge.
It's best in a pan, but the microwave is fine and makes less washing up, but you may have to stir, check and adjust milk quantities. Takes about a minute or so.
Ingredients: before Christmas I'd have used roughly 2 tbsp of oat bran, 2 tbsp of ground flax seeds, 1 tbsp of chia seeds, 1 tbsp mixed seeds (sunflower, sesame and pumpkin) plus a bit of frozen banana and a few blueberries, coconut oil, almond butter, and with milk. Since Jan I've eliminated the fruit, used less nut butter, reduced the quantities overall and the amount of oat bran specifically.
For boot camp light I'd suggest basic recipe 2tbsp ground almonds (in pjs e of oat bran, barely noticed the difference!), 2tbsp ground flax seeds, 1 tbsp chia seeds, small chunk of coconut oil and whole milk (I like mine fairly stodgy) in a pan or microwave and adapt from there. Aldi sells all this stuff though I like the darker ground flaxseed from Health Food shops and Costco plus possibly mainstream supermarkets.
Adding good nut butter and seeds like pumpkin and sunflower will increase the carb count so going to experiment gradually. I've never tried it with a splash of cream, may be good?!

Almahart · 16/02/2018 11:33

My ib has stayed off despite my eating tons of food.

Does anyone know if weight lost slowly stays off more realiably?

I have six ibs to lose now. If I lost one a month for hte next six months that would actually be okay with me. I don't intend to ever go on a diet again

Just had extravagant brunch of steak on a smashed avocado. Am hoping that I won't need to eat again until this evening

Gammeldragz · 16/02/2018 11:41

Rayna thanks for that, I have just made porridge with Lidl ground seed mix, ground almonds, Chia seeds, dessicated coconut, almond butter, knob of butter and almond milk. Not bad at all. Haven't had much fiber recently so this should help.

BIWI · 16/02/2018 12:28

@ThumbWitchesAbroad - you do know that blackberries are 10g carbs per 100g, don't you? Cherries are 12g per 100g. So you're not really cutting down your carbs much by the switch. Why not drop the fruit for a few days and see what happens?

@OrkneyFudge according to Sainsbury's website, broccoli is 3.1g carbs per 100g. One head of broccoli is 335g, therefore 10.4g carbs. Times 3, for three heads, means 31.2g carbs. 200g shallots would be 6.6g carbs, therefore your total would be 36.8g - say 40g for the whole lot. For 8 people this would be 5g carbs each - so it's fine!

But - having said that - it also depends on how much Marigold you used. If you only used their serving suggestion, of 5g, that would have added 1.5g carbs.

So it sounds like a really good option to me!

(But why are you focussing on a daily carb limit? We don't do that on Bootcamp!)

OP posts:
orkneyfudge · 16/02/2018 13:02

@BIWI, thank you. I used a bit more bouillion than that and estimated my broccoli heads as bigger than 335g, but came up with about 8-11g carbs a bowl depending how many servings. I do count carbs though, I think a lot of us do!

BIWI · 16/02/2018 13:21

Why?! You're just making it more complicated! The whole point of Bootcamp was to make it easy to follow!

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 16/02/2018 14:01

The office is full of cakes and biscuits today. I am trying to feel happy with my olives. But truthfully I am sitting at my desk googling the carbs in a single Malteser.
