Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

‘Fighting the fuck its’! That could be my mantra! Love it

JingsMahBucket · 07/02/2018 20:09

‘Fighting the fuck its’!

I love that. I'm totally in that mode right now.

blackteaplease · 07/02/2018 20:16

I thought your explanation was better than mine YOLO, I couldn't find the words to say it properly.

Rshard · 07/02/2018 20:33

Also love ‘fighting the fuck its’!

LeapinLizards · 07/02/2018 20:36

In about a weeks time, everyone will be using FTFIs (fighting the fuck its) Grin

hayser33 · 07/02/2018 20:43

Hi All
I was told to post on here asking for advice on my first day of eating low carb high fat diet ,I want to make sure I'm doing it properly as I'm desperate to lose at least 3 and a half stone before my wedding next year.
I'd be really grateful if you can look at my food diary and tell me if I'm doing good it right or where I am going wrong.
Drinks -water, decaff coffee (a couple black ,one with unsweetend almond milk and one with double cream )
Breakfast - tesco cafe had what I thought was best..a cheese and ham omelette with full fat mayonaise 1 sachet thing !
Lunch -iceberg lettuce with olive oil tin of tuna in sunflower oil mixed with mayonaise (I got a mayonaise which is 3 gram carb per 100 gram ??)
Dinner -salmon fried in olive oil with spinach broccoli and cauliflower rice and some mayonaise
(Mayonaise every mealittle but it equals to about 3 tablespoons over the day ..I'should that too much ?)
Really rather hungry atm so considering a few Strawberry and a bit of double cream.
How does that sound? Am I having too much of the mayo ? I always need a sauce I can't eat plain food makes me feel sick.
I feel ok but I have a headache and very bad stomach.
Thanks in advance for any replies much appreciated

BerylStreep · 07/02/2018 20:49

Just checking in.

B: Lidl greek yoghurt with cream, cinnamon & a couple of brazil nuts. Coffee with almond milk & dash of cream
L: Crunchy salad (celery, spring onion, radish & romaine) in mayo with coleslaw & homemade mackerel pate (made with fish I caught!).
S: Bag of macadamias - probably too many. Another coffee
D: pork belly with celeriac dauphinoise and stir fry broccoli.

Still dry.

BerylStreep · 07/02/2018 20:50

hayser33 welcome!

Your menu looks pretty good - looks like you've done plenty of prep reading.

BIWI · 07/02/2018 20:55

@hayser33 welcome!

Your meals sound fine, but can I check just how much fat you're using? It sounds, from your question about mayonnaise, that you're worrying that you're having too much. Whereas the opposite is true - you should have more fat!

If you're hungry - partly it's probably just the first day and getting used to the diet. As you go on, it's a signal that a) you're not eating enough (although unless you've been having tiny portions, your choices sound like they're good) b) you're not eating enough fat

And you need to drink plenty of water. Go to the spreadsheet which is linked in the OP of this thread, and look at Bootcamp rules (on one of the tabs). Rule 6 will show you how much water you should be drinking each day.

Good luck!

It’s all very lovely on here today, as always. So many warm and helpful messages. Welcome to the newbies 🙂
I am still succeeding with no alcohol - like the discussion on why we drink wine too. Not so successful on no dairy though. Stayed on the woe today but was out at a meeting and no milk alternative there; also ate some Gouda slices for breakfast because I was rushing and needed something to eat in the car. However it’s been a good day apart from coming home to find I needed to buy a new washing machine! Ho hum...

hayser33 · 07/02/2018 21:16

I had read varying reports on mayonaise and altho id got a low carb one I wasnt sure if I had to go easy on it..same with cream and cheese in particular?
Tomorrow I plan on having 2 eggs scrambled with butter and bacon fried in oil ..does that sound ok (sounds so bad for you as I'm used to weight watchers and the pointage of that would be sky high! etc)
Lunch will be salad again with oil and probably sliced beef and mayonaise.
Dinner I'm going to make burgers and I'll fry them in oil with cheese inside with spinach broccoli.
Does that sound ok ?
If I stick to this rigidly with only the odd slip up if I have something sociable (so when I have wine) is it likely I could lose the 3 and a half stone by the end of the year? I'll be looking for my wedding dress this time next year you seeSmile

BerylStreep · 07/02/2018 21:19

Hayser most people find they can lose between 4 - 8 lbs the first week, then it steadies off to an average of about 1 lb a week (although very much an average - it is rarely linear and people experience stalls, and even rises along the way).

YoLoHogwomanay · 07/02/2018 21:23

thanks blacktea Blush

how awful blackmozart about your washing machine.

Great start hayser I'm well impressed!

BerylStreep · 07/02/2018 21:24

I'm sulking tonight. Me & DH discussed whether or not to cancel our ski holiday at the end of March as he won't be able to ski. I asked him to make enquiries with the travel agent and the insurance company to see what we could get back. He has gone ahead and cancelled it, and I am beyond fucked off that I am not going to ski this year.

I'm tempted to just go and book a week on my own, although I hate skiing by myself. I'm feeling a bit weary as I'm working (really hard at the moment), running after DC & DH, doing all the driving, shopping, laundry, cooking and clearing up and Not Even Going to Get To Ski. Angry

YoLoHogwomanay · 07/02/2018 21:25

beryl you caught your own mackerel?? Star Star

YoLoHogwomanay · 07/02/2018 21:28

I'd be fucked off too beryl. it's a bit selfish of him, sorry!

Can you book a last minute deal and just go with DC?

BerylStreep · 07/02/2018 21:36

I think I'll phone the travel agent tomorrow and see if we can cancel our cancellation. I don't really want DH to come as it means he'll be hanging round the resort and I'll be expected to join him for lunch.

YoLo yes, we went out on a fishing boat in July and caught absolutely loads of them. There were so many we were landing at least 4 per line. No one else wanted to bring them home, so I ended up freezing 6kg of mackerel in little sandwich bags!

YoLoHogwomanay · 07/02/2018 21:51

I'm now imagining you as one of those cross country Olympic skiers doing the rifle thing and trekking across snowy mountains in search of deer to hunt or something! Reminds me of one of the Bond films too. Grin

BerylStreep · 07/02/2018 21:56

You imagine correctly Grin

YoLoHogwomanay · 07/02/2018 22:11

Grin Grin Grin

MumOfAPickle · 07/02/2018 22:29

Ha! I'll be all chuffed if FTFI's catches on!! I did resist the bunnies and have stuck to lchf today (almost) but I've had too much I think
B: 2 x egg, bacon & spinach muffin
L: roast pork with cabbage and sprouts (+ gravy and a spoon of apple sauce)
D: tuna steak with broccoli, garlic, chilli etc
S: homemade choc truffles, flax bread with butter

Tomorrow is a new challenge with book group tomorrow night. I will do my very best. Thanks for all your support today everyone and keep fighting the fuck it's!!!

SoMuchToBits · 07/02/2018 22:30

Interesting to hear other people's experiences of stopping drinking wine and sleep patterns.

I used to drink wine pretty much every night before I started low carbing, and in fact I think low carbing has been the thing that has enabled me to stop drinking wine on a regular basis, as it removes the wine cravings which I used to get every evening.

I also found when I started low carbing/stopped drinking wine I suffered from insomnia, and like cherries it took several weeks to develop better sleep patterns. But I do feel much better when I don't drink. Both mentally, and also when I do drink, I wake up feeling dehydrated, my skin feels tight, my stomach feels irritated. I need to remind myself of this to make sure that on the few occasions I do drink, I don't overdo it.

I love that I feel so well on low carb eating.

YoLoHogwomanay · 08/02/2018 00:30

somuch before lchf I felt like an elderly person, full of aches and pains, tired, couldn't think clearly at work, grunting when I stood up from a chair or when I bent down. I felt physically and cognitively about 20 years older than my actual years.

Cutting out the carbs and I now feel like I did 10 years ago or more. I'm never going back!

mumofapickle well done on coining a new bc phrase and for bunny shunning. You won't just do your best at book club because that is a pre-emptive excuse to cheat just a little (which could end up just a lot), so ...You will smash it! You will plan ahead and take alternative drinks and nibbles or choose good lchf versions of what's on offer. In fact you may even recruit some club members for bc, so totally convincing will your delicious food and drink choices be that everyone will want some.

Can you tell us where it's held and what carby twat temptation you are expecting to face? We can perhaps help you with alternatives. You can do this!

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 08/02/2018 05:52

A lb off this morning, at last, thankfully, so I am almost at pre funeral weight and in place to make an assault on that bloody overweight threshold again! Will be so pleased to get there. I know these are bad weeks for stalling so am just trying to have faith!

Twoo · 08/02/2018 07:29

Morning Peeps forgot to post yesterday’s menu:-

B - None
L - Crustless Brocolli quiche with mayonnaise
D - stewed beef, Kale, sprouts & Brocolli

Water about 2 ltrs which I know isn’t enough.

Lovely reading all you comments and successes. I particularly like FTFI Grin
