Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

BIWI · 05/02/2018 06:42

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

I bet you look fab in them ASD! I know what you mean about ‘interim’ clothes. I’ve just ordered a top in 2 sizes as I’m not sure which will fit.

YoLoHogwomanay · 07/02/2018 15:32

thanks for all the insights into wine drinking. I have very similar issues with food and BC has helped me realise this. It was a revelation to me to learn this last year. What complicated relationships we have with food/drink! My triggers are stress, tiredness and hormones. And in spite of what I have learned about myself, I still reach for comforting sweet food when I am experiencing a trigger. I try and make it a creamy coffee or very dark chocolate now. I think what I should be looking at really are other non food ways to address these issues/cravings.

Thanks everyone for sharing.

ASD take some pride that YOU have managed to slim out of these clothes and ensure that someone else can now enjoy them via the charity shop. You should use this to be resolved and determined NEVER to be that size again. Its your decision not something that happens to you. Absolutely DO NOT keep a "just in case" wardrobe. Because that pretty much guarantees you will be wearing it in a few months time. Look forward to all the lovely smaller size clothes you will buy for the summer!

YoLoHogwomanay · 07/02/2018 15:35

lizard and blacktea good one!

alma I am liking the recipe attribution "a la YoLo"! It also works with chicken Wink

Rshard · 07/02/2018 15:40

I took a pic of your recipe yolo, it sounded delicious

MumOfAPickle · 07/02/2018 15:51

I am having a serious wobble today. Stupidly weighed myself this morning and I have put on 2lb since Monday for no good reason. Have been fighting the 'fuck its' all day and now I'm home and it's my real danger time (between school and club runs). The malteaster bunnies are winking at me.....

blackteaplease · 07/02/2018 15:58

@Mumofapickle have a big drink of water and step away from the bunnies. If you are hungry have something lchf but don't eat for the sake of it. You can turn this day around.

Rshard · 07/02/2018 16:07

Distract yourself with something mumofapickle, getting club clothes/equipment ready?

MumOfAPickle · 07/02/2018 16:13

Thank you, had a bit of cheese and yes will try a big glass of water too. I know I need to trust that this will work in the long term but some days that's harder than others....

Alwaysinmyheart · 07/02/2018 16:20

I have low carb biscuits and cakes that I make to eat in case I need a sweet snack, if pp are feeling tempted, then maybe try doing that instead of reaching for the carbs?!

Scabbersley · 07/02/2018 16:38

Need to add a serving spoon of chicken curry to my daily food. Homemade, chicken, spices and cream, lemon juice. Delicious. It's for tomorrow must. Stop. Eating. It

Mimosa1 · 07/02/2018 17:29

Asd congratulations on your smaller size and for donating your clothes to the charity shop. I know what you mean about having nothing to wear and feeling queasy about it. Could you buy a few inexpensive things, maybe from the charity shop where you dropped your clothes? I think your plan to wait until you're a size 12 to buy some pretty clothes is a tiny bit harsh as you should also celebrate how far you've come! I'm so impressed by how much you've achieved. Wow.

EeeSheWasThin · 07/02/2018 17:33

So I’ve been doing LCHF since the beginning of December, when it was recommended to me, and I also do one hour personal training each week.

My PT measured me back at the beginning and again last night....

I have lost 7.5 cm from my waist! 7.5!! Also lost 4 cm from my hips! Am beside myself with joy. I have also worn trousers all day for work that I haven’t been able to fasten for two years.

The best thing about this WoE for me is I’m having so much cream, which is almost my favourite thing, and I have always felt really guilty about having it before.

Thanks to everyone on here for their support, not only specifically to me when I’ve posted, but all the general encouragement to help everyone along. I really feel like we’re in it together

BumbleBeef30 · 07/02/2018 17:41

7.5cm from your waist is fantastic, Eee!

B fried mushrooms x 2
L Louisiana chicken with spicy stir fry veg and avocado smash
D salmon
W probably about 2 litres so far.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 07/02/2018 17:46

7.5cm! Well done!!

asd, having faith in yourself like that is amazing and takes lots of strength. I’m not surprised you hade a bit of a wobble afterwards - I would have too. But you should definitely find some bits as interim garments, even if only cheap or from charity shops, not least because looking nice is part of the motivation to continue, I am sure of it. Also because part of this WOE is about self care, and you deserve to look nice and celebrate your own success.

Rshard · 07/02/2018 17:46

That’s fantastic eee!

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 07/02/2018 17:48

B creamy coffee, salami
L more salami, CoYo coconut and vanilla yoghurt (coconut milk yoghurt, 4g carbs per 100g - does that sound ok?), celery
D Thai chicken with veg
W a work in progress - maybe a litre so far.

ASDismynormality · 07/02/2018 17:57

You’re all being so lovely thanks Flowers. I’m going on holiday at the end of next month so will buy a few nice items of clothing for then.

eee. 7.5cms, that’s fabulous!

Spiderkitty · 07/02/2018 18:34

Hi! Would it be ok if I joined? I've just been having a good read of the recipe threads and been shopping, so ready to get started Smile

I'm on mat leave at the moment and have a lot of baby weight to shift... I've lost 14lbs so far, but have really stalled and need some motivation (plus I really didn't enjoy Slimming World which I was on previously)

Is it too late to put my weight into the spreadsheet this week?

AveAtqueVale · 07/02/2018 18:36

Pleased I (just about) avoided the big stick yesterday Grin. Food for today has been better:
B: creamy coffee
L: saag paneer (didn’t taste quite right - may have to find an actual recipe as opposed to making it up)
D: bunless burger with salad.

Still feeling vaguely peckish so maybe some cheese in a bit. Congrats ASD on your clear-out! I’ve got a few bits I really really can’t wait to get rid of.

BIWI · 07/02/2018 18:50

Jump right in @SpiderKitty!

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions re sleep/insomnia.

I'm going to have a bath and read my book this evening, which should have the double benefit of relaxing me but also taking me away from blue screens.

Re writing down my thoughts - if my thoughts were anything useful then I might just do that! But it's more just general worry about stuff that's non-specific that swirls around my head that's the problem.

Two good food discoveries - first is Pret a Manger's No Cream Cream of Chicken Soup. I've posted about this one before, but I hadn't realised quite how low carb it is! a 370g pot, which is a really good portion for lunch, and very filling, is only 5.9g carbs. It's one of their Wednesday soups, although I think sometimes it's available on other days.

details here

And I noticed this weekend at Sainsbury's that Bare Naked noodles are now doing a high protein version that are only 0.1g carbs compared with 0.9g carbs for the original version. They must be new as they're not even featured on the Bare Naked website, neither are they on Sainsbury's website.

Honestly @BIWI try writing stuff down. It's not meant to be literature, more like an acknowledgement of your worries to get them out of your head and on to paper to deal with after sleep.

Almahart · 07/02/2018 19:38

Ooh good finds BIWI thank you

My food today
L pret Italian chicken salad
Snack handful salted almonds, square dark choc, asparagus with a poached egg
Dinner pork a la yolo (see above) with leeks cooked in butter.
I slipped up with a Diet Coke. So so not a brilliant day but okay and day theee of no wine Smile

YoLoHogwomanay · 07/02/2018 19:39

BIWI that's the jumblehead i mentioned before. It is called stress! One way is to deal with each thing and let it go. Writing it down is a way of acknowledging and releasing the thought. I did a mindfulness course and learned that these things that stress us (fears, worries etc) are not actuwlly real, they are just thoughts. Thoughts that don't actually come from outside, they come from within ourselves and therefore we can control them rather than let them control us. I often have thoughts swirling because I am worried about forgetting to do something. Writing a calendar reminder on my phone releases that thought so I can forget it for now. A particular worry about something can be released from the swirl by adding it to a list of things to be considered in the morning, or later when you set aside head space.

I really do recommend the guided meditation (plus the practical suggestions above) for actively and instantly destressing and sleeping better.

welcome spiderkitty . Btw your NN gives me the heebies!! Confused

eee well done on inches lost!

bumblebeef please share your Louisiana chicken recipe with us Smile

mumofapickle I love your phrase "fighting the fuck-its". That's got to go into our BC vernacular now. I hope you managed to bin the bunnies. They are just cheap shite really. All refined sugar and vegetable fat. Save yourself for Really Good Chocolate. That is worth a few (not many) carbs.

YoLoHogwomanay · 07/02/2018 19:40

cross posted blacktea !

YoLoHogwomanay · 07/02/2018 19:42

but you were much more succinct than me and my tome!
