Week 3 – Keep celebrating the scale and non-scale victories!

Hello Bootcampers and welcome to week 3. Thanks so much to PrettyBird for the previous threads – I hope I can live up to the high standards this week.

Hopefully this WOE (way of eating) is starting to feel easier for you, and you will have seen some good losses in weeks 1 & 2. The exciting thing about week three, is that for those who want to, we can tentatively move into Bootcamp Light.

The key changes are that you can add in some carbier vegetables in moderation, although it is best to stick to those that are 3g carbs per 100g or less for the majority of your vegetable intake. You can add some fruit in the form of berries in moderation, have nuts and seeds in moderation, and can have some alcohol – you guessed it – IN MODERATION. Vodka and soda, dry white wine, or red wine are the best choices. The rules for Bootcamp and Bootcamp Light, along with fruit, veg & nut carb counters are in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, kindly organised by SayrraT.

The good thing about Bootcamp Light is that it opens up your menu choices, and hopefully feels sustainable for a lot of people. However don’t be tempted to view this as a free for all – if you suddenly start eating loads of roasted butternut squash, followed by bowlfuls of berries all washed down with a bottle of Prosecco and packet of almonds, it will stall you.

Lots of people find that sticking to Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light for the weekend works well for them. Others find that they need to stick to Bootcamp in the main, either because their metabolisms can’t cope with the extra carbs (me) or because psychologically they are in the ‘abstainer’ camp (also me) rather than the ‘moderation’ camp. Just do whatever works for you.

Some people find they stall in Weeks 3 and 4, and the initial whooshes of weeks 1 and 2 can quickly become distant memories. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on), celebrate non-scale victories, drink plenty of water, and trust that this will work. Weight loss isn’t always linear, and there are loads of posters on here who have had amazing losses over the last year who are testament that this works in the long term.

So after what feels like an epic OP Grin, good luck on the scale and non-scale victories this week!

Congratulations ASD, that's a brilliant achievement.

Went out with friends last night and we got carried away chatting, so by the time we went to a restaurant the kitchen was closed! I was starving when we got back and demolished some cheddar and olives which was not an ideal dinner.

Making fathead pizza later today- does anyone have any favourite topping combinations to inspire me?

BerylStreep · 27/01/2018 10:10

ASD the NSVs come in all sorts of surprising ways Grin.

I have these scales Orkney and like them a lot. You can input your height into them and they calculate your BMI for you. They supposedly measure your percentage body fat and I doubt it's that accurate but it does let you see the number going down over time.

MumOfAPickle · 27/01/2018 11:11

Morning, checking in with yesterday's food
B: eggs, bacon, spinach
L: smoked salmon pate with cucumber
D: nigella's one pan sausage and chicken with sage and onion with loads of broccoli and green beans
S: olives, small glass of red wine, 1 square of 85% chocolate

Re the chocolate, my DH has always eaten it and I've always said it's horrible - far too bitter, my god it tasted sweet and amazing last night!!

Out tonight with two of my oldest friends so not expecting much weight loss (if any/a gain) this week but no going out plans for a while after this so going to koko.....

Twoo · 27/01/2018 11:50

What a great incentive Abbey’! Not had a cruise for a v long time. From what I remember they are fab although there is wall to wall food Shock

B - Coffee with cream. Not hungry for food.

L - Boiled Eggs, cheese & coleslaw.

D - Sausage, Kale & celeriac mash.

Generally I don’t snack in between meals.

NSV - blouse did up easier without straining at the buttons. Usually boobs at risk of being exposed when the buttons give up the fight.

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 27/01/2018 11:52

I have weight watchers scales that I bought at Tesco on sale for £10. I only bought them at the beginning of boot camp so they might still have them?
It gives me lb/st/kilo readings plus water %, fat%, and bmi

nekobus · 27/01/2018 12:59

I'm loving the NSVs and the SVs too - always great to get under a milestone like the obese BMI or a stone/half stone mark. Well done ASD !! I was trying to calculate what weight I need to get under so I'm not obese I think it's 13 stone so need to lose another 21 pounds. Eek! Must get myself some mini goals!

New recipe threads are looking good and much easier to search on my phone - from the veg one I'm making the celeriac dauphinois tonight (prettybird was that the recipe you used? I normally go for one from great British chefs but don't have any gruyere, I'm sure cheddar will do!)

Orkney I have some weight watchers brand scales, had them for ages so have lost the instructions. They do body fat too but I've forgotten how to set it up so just use for weight it was a cheap supermarket purchase. I also use 'true weight' app on my phone which evens out the fluctuations.

And thanks whoever mentioned that buttermint tea is back in the shops - found some in my Waitrose and bought 3 boxes in case it disappears again Grin )

I think I've missed a few days good logging so here is yesterday
B - creamy coffee, tea and soya milk
L - leftover Brussels and Asparagus with 2 fried eggs
D - chicken stir fry with courgetti noodles
S - babaybel, total Greek with dbl cream and cinnamon
W - 3L incl fruit tea

prettybird · 27/01/2018 13:05

No nekobus - my celeriac Dauphinoise I make with just cream, some mashed up garlic and the top of celeriac dotted with butter. I might mix the cream with some ff milk if I'm short of cream.

DakotaFanny · 27/01/2018 13:11

Nearly one week in and all going smoothly...scales suggest I may have lost over half a stone!! Is that even possible??

prettybird · 27/01/2018 13:21

Dakota - it is indeed Smile

But don't get too excited: it does level off to an average of 1-2lb a week : sometimes less. Stalls can and do happen (weeks 3-4 are particularly notorious) but you just need to KOKO and the scales will begin moving downwards again.

Keep a note of the NSVs - they are very motivating when the scales do start to stick.

nekobus · 27/01/2018 13:36

Thanks prettybird! Even easier!

BIWI · 27/01/2018 13:44

Sorry I have been slacking on the recipe thread front! I'm going to try and do the chicken/duck one this weekend. I think that's going to be quite a long one.

BerylStreep · 27/01/2018 13:48

My earlier post was meant for Headoutofthesand Grin, but well done on the BMI victory ASD!

Orkney I have Tanita scales, and they are pretty consistent. No magic patches on my bathroom floor.

LittleLadyLawyer I'm making fathead pizza tonight too! I'm doing chorizo & cheddar and will have shredded iceberg lettuce on top. I've never made it before, so will post the results.

Annoyingly, one of the down sides of not eating very much is that my fridge is bulging. I had to throw out some poached chicken breasts and a whole cauliflower yesterday that had been languishing in the fridge for too long. I'm now routinely only eating 2 meals a day.

Abbey the cruise sounds fantastic!

DakotaFanny · 27/01/2018 14:14

I’ll take it Prettybird Wink and accept that next week will be a very different story!

As an aside- my skin feels very dry (although more glowy!) did anyone else experience this?

Rshard · 27/01/2018 14:18

Improved skin is def a result from this woe dakota, my skin, although never especially bad is much better.

Your cruise sounds lovely abbey

Thanks BIWI for all the time you’re spending on sorting the recipe threads

BerylStreep · 27/01/2018 14:22

I'll join the dry February. Great idea for the D.C. fans to join too!

OP posts:
TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 27/01/2018 17:25

I'm seriously cranky and not feeling the love today. Not been off piste but I have eaten very large amounts... and two potatoes.

Trying not to break open the 90% chocolate as I'll eat the entire bar.

Urgh.

Rshard · 27/01/2018 17:37

Can you distract yourself with something witch? Walk the dog, clean the bathroom, go for a run??

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 27/01/2018 17:58

I've put the children in the bath, so now I can't leave the bathroom!!

And then I'll be into the story/bed shenanigans and hopefully by the end I'll be in bed too. I'm in the south west and it has been relentlessly raining since the beginning of the year. I feel enveloped in grey by the weather, it's horrid.

Montypulciano · 27/01/2018 17:58

Sorry you are struggling, The Season. I find a bovril can help or some nibbly bits. Do you have olives, pork scratchings, the nice seaweed crisps or something? Have a glass of water and try to resist. Or make a slimline tonic with lots of ice and lemon. Bath? Paint nails? All good distraction tools I sometimes use. Sending strength Flowers

Small nsv today - my size 12 dress goes on. It doesn’t look right as it’s still too tight but at least it will go over my knockers. I am noticing a reduction in back fat too which is encouraging. I hate back fat probably more than my front fat as my tits detract a bit from that, but the back just folds. Still, baby steps eh?

Keep on keeping on, everyone. Smile

ilovecherries · 27/01/2018 18:26

Bloody hell. Currently travelling first class between Glasgow and London and have just been given my complimentary snack. 200 gms of carbs!!!!!. And I would routinely have eaten that before and the gone out to dinner.

littleladylawyer · 27/01/2018 18:26

Witch I know how you feel, I hate the constant grey rain and wind. Makes me want to crawl into bed until summer!

Beryl hope your fathead turns out well- DP decided to put overnight oven cleaner in while I was out this afternoon so going to save it til next week and go out for dinner tonight instead. It's an Italian restaurant where they do really good meat dishes, last time i went I had oxtail so hoping for something similar.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 27/01/2018 18:45

I feel the same, witch. Am just doing my best to struggle through today, and hope that tomorrow feels better and I can get back on it with enthusiasm rather than this dragging glumness.

I’ve not had a great day, food wise. I didn’t plan well for a day where I was going to be trapped in control of other people (and on a boat), so the hunger got so bad I honestly didn’t feel able to do anything other than eat three of the biscuits on offer, basically in order to keep functioning. I then did my best with a buffet when we got back off the water (eating the inside of sausage rolls and discarding the pastry), but since I’ve been home I’ve had half a glass of wine and a few spoonfuls of someone else’s trifle. All that could have been avoided if I could have been bothered to get up and go to the shops last night and buy stuff for breakfast and LCHF snacks for the day. So that’s my lesson. Always be bothered to plan.

B creamy coffee
L 2 x coffee with milk and 3 x choc digestives
S inside of three sausage rolls, handful of Brazil nuts
D chicken wrapped in streaky bacon with salad, trifle, glass of wine
W barely anything (apart from the bitter tears of regret)

abbey44 · 27/01/2018 18:59

Today's notes:

B: Mushroom omelette
D: Stir-fried celeriac and cauliflower rice with spinach, rocket & watercress salad. Plenty of butter & dressing.

And a two-hour walk on the beach with the dogs, battling the wind, which I think came straight from Siberia.

The cruise....the massive attraction is that James Martin is on board, doing cookery classes and dinners, but you can't find out the availability to pre-book places until you've committed to the cruise. I've dithered about it for so long that of course there are no places left for either his classes or dinner. To say I'm disappointed with that is just a little understatement, but I'm kicking myself as of course anyone with half a wit would have realised this and got their skates on.

Still, it's going to be fine, isn't it...? (And I will get over my entitled princessy disappointment before I go, I promise Grin)
