Week 3 – Keep celebrating the scale and non-scale victories!

Hello Bootcampers and welcome to week 3. Thanks so much to PrettyBird for the previous threads – I hope I can live up to the high standards this week.

Hopefully this WOE (way of eating) is starting to feel easier for you, and you will have seen some good losses in weeks 1 & 2. The exciting thing about week three, is that for those who want to, we can tentatively move into Bootcamp Light.

The key changes are that you can add in some carbier vegetables in moderation, although it is best to stick to those that are 3g carbs per 100g or less for the majority of your vegetable intake. You can add some fruit in the form of berries in moderation, have nuts and seeds in moderation, and can have some alcohol – you guessed it – IN MODERATION. Vodka and soda, dry white wine, or red wine are the best choices. The rules for Bootcamp and Bootcamp Light, along with fruit, veg & nut carb counters are in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, kindly organised by SayrraT.

The good thing about Bootcamp Light is that it opens up your menu choices, and hopefully feels sustainable for a lot of people. However don’t be tempted to view this as a free for all – if you suddenly start eating loads of roasted butternut squash, followed by bowlfuls of berries all washed down with a bottle of Prosecco and packet of almonds, it will stall you.

Lots of people find that sticking to Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light for the weekend works well for them. Others find that they need to stick to Bootcamp in the main, either because their metabolisms can’t cope with the extra carbs (me) or because psychologically they are in the ‘abstainer’ camp (also me) rather than the ‘moderation’ camp. Just do whatever works for you.

Some people find they stall in Weeks 3 and 4, and the initial whooshes of weeks 1 and 2 can quickly become distant memories. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on), celebrate non-scale victories, drink plenty of water, and trust that this will work. Weight loss isn’t always linear, and there are loads of posters on here who have had amazing losses over the last year who are testament that this works in the long term.

So after what feels like an epic OP Grin, good luck on the scale and non-scale victories this week!

BIWI · 26/01/2018 19:55

I hate you all

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 26/01/2018 19:55

Bereft of your big stick and everything!

BIWI · 26/01/2018 20:00

Hah! After Beryl has done her two weeks, I'm grabbing the big stick back. And I will be in a bad mood if I can't have gin, so you'll all have to be jolly careful.

prettybird · 26/01/2018 20:10

If you can't take it, you can't give it ..... WinkGrin

BIWI · 26/01/2018 20:14

It's what I've always said @prettybird. It's not do as I do, it's do as I say! Grin

BlackMozart · 26/01/2018 21:12

So BIWI I am going to think seriously about joining you on the dry Feb. I did half of Jan but not all so I need to do this. My birthday is near the beginning of March so it’s a good time to go for it.

Right decision made. I am in. Girds loins, grits teeth, steels spine...

BIWI · 26/01/2018 21:17

Oh thank goodness

BumbleBeef30 · 26/01/2018 21:29

B fried mushrooms
S ham
L courgette, ham and goats cheese omelette
D beef stew with lots of peppers

I need to expand my veg range more. Mushrooms, courgettes and peppers will get very boring soon.

BlackMozart · 26/01/2018 21:30

No I agree it is not going to be easy. Our success will be hard won, but we will succeed. We’ve got this. And just imagine how we’ll feel on 1 March. 😇👏🏋️

Waiting to see if it’s just us or will some other brave souls step forward?

ilovecherries · 26/01/2018 21:31

Well, I haven't (yet) started drinking after my alcohol free year in 2017. We've (DH & I) decided on another 90 days and then review again. So I'm dry till end March.

BIWI · 26/01/2018 21:32

I did check it's not a leap year, to make sure it's only the 28 days Blush

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 26/01/2018 21:35

Fuck it. BIWI and Blackmozart I failed dry Jan on day 20, I and my liver could do with a stretch of no alcohol!

BlackMozart · 26/01/2018 21:38

That’s the spirit !! (Whoops maybe not the best phrase😊)

headoutofthesand · 26/01/2018 21:40

I was so in need of a drink after work today but reminded myself how desperate I am not to have a week 3 stall and that I'm doing dry Jan and stuck to hot water & lemon. I'll probably do dry Feb too. I'm lucky that my social group includes other non & low drinkers as well as some heavy drinkers so anything goes.

Duck for dinner which was delicious.

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 26/01/2018 21:53

Food today, better than recently
B: fried courgette and pepper, 2 poached eggs, small smoked salmon and cream cheese
L: Goan fish curry and caul rice
D: Bolognaise, caul rice , parmesan.
S: half a prawn cocktail, few pecans
Have the nice, satisfied, not that hungry feeling. Much better than the constant carby snackiness

prettybird · 26/01/2018 22:09

Just talked with dh: I think I can do dry February with the exception of Valentine's Day. Would that do? Wink

BIWI · 26/01/2018 22:12

Oh! I'd forgotten about Valentine's Day. Perhaps we should all be allowed that day off?!

BlackMozart · 26/01/2018 22:23

Not quite dry Feb then Wink

ilovecherries · 26/01/2018 22:26

BIWI - you are really already planning a cheat day so early in the process? You know Dry February doesn't work like that ;). (Channels big stick)

prettybird · 26/01/2018 22:30

Start a day early.....two full weeks DRY....... Valentines Day .......2 more weeks dry ..... Dry(ish) February completed. Grin

tries to justify the cheat day Blush

abbey44 · 26/01/2018 22:31

Well, I've just had a 'fuck it' moment this evening and have booked myself onto a cruise holiday for my birthday in March. Well, it's a landmark age and I thought I deserved something memorable, especially as I haven't had a proper holiday since 2004. I'm hoping having something nice to look forward to will help to keep me motivated. Before BC I certainly wouldn't have dreamed of doing something like this.

Anyway, I've spent a couple of hours sorting through my wardrobe trying everything on, and the 'too big' pile is satisfyingly large. I've discovered some lovely things that have been put away and are within sight of fitting again. Seven weeks tomorrow I'll be heading to the Caribbean and I can't bloody wait Grin

prettybird · 26/01/2018 22:39

Brilliant abbey44 - fan-bloody-tastic Grin

Good for you! I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time - and will look fabulous! Smile

nekobus · 26/01/2018 22:53

Good on you abbey! Proper treat for yourself Grin I'm well jealous- DH doesn't want to cruise whereas I'd love to!

LeapinLizards · 26/01/2018 22:55

abbey that sounds amazing. What a great incentive to KOKO.

I'm up for dry Feb BIWI and others. I'm a singleton so can sail through St Valentine's without needing to break. I knew there would be an advantage to being single on St Valentine's day if I searched long enough Grin
