Hello Bootcampers and welcome to week 3. Thanks so much to PrettyBird for the previous threads – I hope I can live up to the high standards this week.

Hopefully this WOE (way of eating) is starting to feel easier for you, and you will have seen some good losses in weeks 1 & 2. The exciting thing about week three, is that for those who want to, we can tentatively move into Bootcamp Light.

The key changes are that you can add in some carbier vegetables in moderation, although it is best to stick to those that are 3g carbs per 100g or less for the majority of your vegetable intake. You can add some fruit in the form of berries in moderation, have nuts and seeds in moderation, and can have some alcohol – you guessed it – IN MODERATION. Vodka and soda, dry white wine, or red wine are the best choices. The rules for Bootcamp and Bootcamp Light, along with fruit, veg & nut carb counters are in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, kindly organised by SayrraT.

The good thing about Bootcamp Light is that it opens up your menu choices, and hopefully feels sustainable for a lot of people. However don’t be tempted to view this as a free for all – if you suddenly start eating loads of roasted butternut squash, followed by bowlfuls of berries all washed down with a bottle of Prosecco and packet of almonds, it will stall you.

Lots of people find that sticking to Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light for the weekend works well for them. Others find that they need to stick to Bootcamp in the main, either because their metabolisms can’t cope with the extra carbs (me) or because psychologically they are in the ‘abstainer’ camp (also me) rather than the ‘moderation’ camp. Just do whatever works for you.

Some people find they stall in Weeks 3 and 4, and the initial whooshes of weeks 1 and 2 can quickly become distant memories. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on), celebrate non-scale victories, drink plenty of water, and trust that this will work. Weight loss isn’t always linear, and there are loads of posters on here who have had amazing losses over the last year who are testament that this works in the long term.

So after what feels like an epic OP Grin, good luck on the scale and non-scale victories this week!

These lemon cupcakes look rather nice, and LC compatible with a bit of tweaking. ( never tried coconut sugar so would use Splenda)

www.whattheforkfoodblog.com/2017/07/17/gluten-free-lemon-cupcakes/

Also is is bad to have chocolate cookies with cream for breakfast? It’s LC but always feels a bit decadent! 😀

Sometimes I can’t face eggs/meat/ cooking first thing in the morning and this is so quick...

BumbleBeef30 · 25/01/2018 17:53

I’ve tried starting the boot camp for the last two weeks and have sabotaged myself, sometimes deliberately, but mainly absent-mindedly.

This is the second day I have stuck to the LCHF boot camp.

B slice of ham
Brunch mushrooms and egg
S slice of ham
D garlic chicken (skin-on), courgetti and peppers.

prettybird · 25/01/2018 18:00

Bumbles - doesn't look like you've eaten much at all today. This WoE (Way of Eating) is not about being hungry and depriving yourself.

Looks like you need more (low carb Wink) veg and fat (eg microwaved buttered brussels). Have you been having your required water? It really does help.

BumbleBeef30 · 25/01/2018 18:07

I’m feeling rather ill today (thanks, kids, for passing on the bug) so I don’t feel hungry. I do crave toast, but I’ve hung my size 16 jeans on the door next to the bread cupboard and I’m hoping they will prove enough inspiration to keep me from snacking.

I fried the mushrooms, egg, courgetti and peppers in butter.

I do need to drink a lot more water, though. I’ll go and get a glass now.

prettybird · 25/01/2018 18:17

I'll let you off if you have your water Wink

Some really inspirational stories here: I've lost just over 3 stone since I started back in May Smile. And that includes a plateau in August/September when I got a bit complacent/lost focus Blush

BerylStreep · 25/01/2018 18:27

Alwaysinmyheart personally I would be cautious about lemon cupcakes and chocolate cookies for a couple of reasons.

Firstly gluten free flour isn't necessarily low carb. Also there is some research that artificial sweeteners can provoke a similar insulin response as sugar does.

Secondly, these sort of 'treats' can provoke an unhealthy psychological response. Part of the purpose of boot camp is trying to retrain our brains not to crave sweet things.

Thirdly, do you think you could really have just one? Or would you find yourself looking at an empty plate wondering what happened to the other 11 cupcakes you made? (I'm possibly projecting with this one. I absolutely know I would be looking at an empty plate Grin)

It's up to you, but you might want to have a think about what the attraction of cookies or cupcakes is.

Welcome back bumblebeef. Lots of support here - you can do it.

B ff Greek yoghurt with cinnamon, 2 x creamy coffees
L a tub of olives (desperate measures when trapped without other options)
S some cold celeriac fished out of tomorrow’s packed lunch stew.
D stir fried beef, pak choi and French beans in sesame oil and soy sauce.

Alwaysinmyheart · 25/01/2018 18:35

Beryl thanks for that! I’m actually fine with cakes and chocs etc. I’m the sort of person who could buy a bar of chocolate, have one piece and put it in my bag and forget about it. It’s alcohol that’s my downfall. I REALLY wanted a glass of wine tonight. Didn’t have one, but that’s what I’m really craving...

Alwaysinmyheart · 25/01/2018 18:37

I also think in the morning I don’t want the faff of cooking so something ready made is easy. I’m just lazy really! 😀

Gammeldragz · 25/01/2018 19:03

Good day for wise today.
12pm - leftover aubergine and bolognese bake.
4pm - creamy coffee
5:30pm - roast kale, bacon, Parmesan and mayo.

orkneyfudge · 25/01/2018 19:20

Always - what about making some egg/bacon muffins or some BC friendly almond flour bread for toasting to have with butter? This is what I do once a week then I'm all sorted.

prettybird · 25/01/2018 19:32

I've just ordered some psyllium husk, erythritol and inulin (the latter to make cranachan) off Amazon.

Looking forward to trying to make some low carb breads.

prettybird · 25/01/2018 19:34

....but I promise, I'm not going to go mad with the sugar substitutes Grin

Jerm123 · 25/01/2018 19:39

Hello, may I join in again please? I’ve had a pretty grim month where I’ve gone completely off piste, as have been dealing with two sets of parents in hospital. Hospitals do not always provide a good choice and I haven’t had time to shop properly, so now that everyone is home again, I’m relaunching this diet and forgiving myself.
Luckily the stress has contrad the carb-fest and I’m 13 13.5, which is only 1lb more than pre Christmas and 1.5 stone down on last October

I restarted on Tuesday, but unlike everyone else will be in bootcamp for a couple of weeks!

Alwaysinmyheart · 25/01/2018 19:40

Good luck with the low carb bread, do let us know how it tastes!

Rshard · 25/01/2018 20:02

Another one interested in how the low carb bread turns out please

I’ve learned this week of another swim parent who is apparently low carbing. I don’t know this guy but had noticed he’d lost weight so I will have a chat next time I see him at a gala. He’s apparently lost 33kg.

BerylStreep · 25/01/2018 20:02

Jerm welcome back. It's hard going when loved ones are in hospital - it's such a drain on your time.

schnazzy I have PCOS and this is the easiest way I’ve ever lost weight. Feels effortless and like this is how I am supposed to eat. It’s worth giving it a try to see if it works for you. Smile

Grimbles · 25/01/2018 21:45

Evening all! Just popping in to log food. Only managed 14hrs fasting today, had a miso soup around midday.

Miso soup
Pork Scratchings
Prawns and Marie rose
Chicken with broccoli and asparagus roasted in butter

Bit low on the water today as well

SayrraT · 25/01/2018 21:47

BTW, those lemon cupcakes are absolutely no way low carb. Gluten free flour 80g carb per 100g! Gluten free means no gluten, not no carbs.

IAmSamSamlAm · 25/01/2018 21:48

I'm bloody gutted. DDs dads mate forced me to take some chicken and rice and a Rio when I walked past his food van. Gave the chicken and rice to my dad but didn't even think about the Rio until I was a third of the way through on the bus AngryAngryAngry

Didn't even want it. Was just habit cause I was a bit thirsty and completely forgot! So annoyed with myself.

In other news, I've been so stressed today I've only had a chicken salad. Loads of water though.

Fml.

BerylStreep · 25/01/2018 22:18

Sam well done on the water. In terms of the Rio - just move on - it's only a blip. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

I made moussaka from the Idiot Proof Diet book tonight. Delicious. Had it with salad ... which means I have had leaves in oil with all of my meals today

TitusAndromedon · 25/01/2018 22:43

Just popping on to report my food today.
B: Two boiled eggs with mayo, cheese
L: Spinach leaves with roast chicken, cheese, cucumber and Italian dressing, followed by olives
D: Pork shoulder, crackling, celeriac rice in butter and broccoli

Lots of water and various fruit teas. The pork was kind of a revelation. I’ve never liked crackling before but even that was delicious, and the pork itself was lovely and tender. One toddler wasn’t interested in it but the other kept asking for more, and my husband was in heaven. My MIL’s pork has always been a bit dry and sad (sorry, MIL!) so I assumed I didn’t like it, but I will definitely be doing it again.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 25/01/2018 22:59

In low carb terms I have done badly today. In food terms I have done well.

Butternut squash soup for lunch
One sausage, on spoon mash, one spoon baked beans Blush. Sorry.
