Hello Bootcampers and welcome to week 3. Thanks so much to PrettyBird for the previous threads – I hope I can live up to the high standards this week.

Hopefully this WOE (way of eating) is starting to feel easier for you, and you will have seen some good losses in weeks 1 & 2. The exciting thing about week three, is that for those who want to, we can tentatively move into Bootcamp Light.

The key changes are that you can add in some carbier vegetables in moderation, although it is best to stick to those that are 3g carbs per 100g or less for the majority of your vegetable intake. You can add some fruit in the form of berries in moderation, have nuts and seeds in moderation, and can have some alcohol – you guessed it – IN MODERATION. Vodka and soda, dry white wine, or red wine are the best choices. The rules for Bootcamp and Bootcamp Light, along with fruit, veg & nut carb counters are in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, kindly organised by SayrraT.

The good thing about Bootcamp Light is that it opens up your menu choices, and hopefully feels sustainable for a lot of people. However don’t be tempted to view this as a free for all – if you suddenly start eating loads of roasted butternut squash, followed by bowlfuls of berries all washed down with a bottle of Prosecco and packet of almonds, it will stall you.

Lots of people find that sticking to Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light for the weekend works well for them. Others find that they need to stick to Bootcamp in the main, either because their metabolisms can’t cope with the extra carbs (me) or because psychologically they are in the ‘abstainer’ camp (also me) rather than the ‘moderation’ camp. Just do whatever works for you.

Some people find they stall in Weeks 3 and 4, and the initial whooshes of weeks 1 and 2 can quickly become distant memories. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on), celebrate non-scale victories, drink plenty of water, and trust that this will work. Weight loss isn’t always linear, and there are loads of posters on here who have had amazing losses over the last year who are testament that this works in the long term.

So after what feels like an epic OP Grin, good luck on the scale and non-scale victories this week!

TheSeason - looks lovely. Why don't you post it across to the Vegetarian Recipe thread that BIWI has now pulled together. Smile

Rshard · 25/01/2018 12:07

Looks and sounds lovely theseason

Basseting · 25/01/2018 12:14

Day 2. Cutting carbs is fine but dont think I am getting enough fat in?
Off to shops shortly. What to buy?

headoutofthesand · 25/01/2018 12:14

I just bought some of the butter from Waitrose with sea salt flakes in it. Heaven! I know there was a discussion yesterday about how butter isn't processed by our bodies in the same way as other diary but can I really cut slithers off and eat it? please say yes!!

Just had a couple of tablespoons of cold celeriac boulangere and it's surprisingly good. Whoever made one earlier in the week and it lasted for ages l, how did you re-heat it? I'm never that successful with re-heating things.

On the topic of fussy children again, what really annoyed me is that I devoutly followed Annabelle Karmel with both DC even lovingly cooking things like
chicken livers which I can't abide, offered puree & finger foods and the way DS acts you think he'd never stepped out of a junk food freezer aisle in his life. I do try & do healthy options sometimes like made my own fish fingers or at least buy breaded cod rather than fish fingers but I'm not sure whether it's worth the effort as he'd prefer the shop ones.

BerylStreep · 25/01/2018 12:34

headoutofthesand that was me. I made a big celeriac dauphinoise and it has lasted ages. Each time I have more I just scoop some out into a bowl and bung it in the microwave. I may have added extra grated gruyere.

Basseting - lots of butter Wink

Also, nice fatty cuts of meat (like pork belly, lamb breast or shoulder; the added advantage being that they are cheaper cuts Smile), mince with c20% fat, chicken thighs with skin on.....

Parmesan, FF Philadelphia, Boursin.....

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 25/01/2018 12:39

Thanks I've popped it on the veggie recipe thread Smile

Shnazzyshot · 25/01/2018 12:51

Hi I hope you don't mind me posting here. I have pcos and am struggling to lose weight even though I have cut down on food and am exercising. The only thing I have left to try is a low carb diet. Do any of you have pcos and have found this works? Thanks!

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 25/01/2018 13:05

Btw is there going to be a fish recipe thread or does it get put on to the meat thread?

Polkadotties · 25/01/2018 13:12

schnazzy I have PCOS and I’m insulin resistant. Low carbing is the only way I can lose weight. The weight falls off effortlessly, physically and mentally I feel better when I don’t eat carbs.

Shnazzyshot · 25/01/2018 13:45

Thanks polka that's great to hear. I'm just so sick of trying so hard and getting nowhere.

Scabbersley · 25/01/2018 13:56

B: nowt
L: three eggs, some thinly sliced leftover roast pork, some spinach, all fiddled together in a pan with olive oil and soy. Topped with sliced avocado and mayo.

I love my chuck it in a pan lunches.

D: not sure but I am so full!

prettybird · 25/01/2018 14:15

Tonight I'm going a wee bit off-piste as I'll be having haggis Smile - with plenty of mashed neeps and loads of butter. I'll leave the mashed potatoes Wink

We're leaving the full Burns Supper until the weekend - when I'll have to go off-piste again Blush

Scabbersley · 25/01/2018 14:34

Blimey. Haggis? Isn't that quite carby?

prettybird · 25/01/2018 14:39

Very Blush

No added sugar but lots of oatmeal Blush

TimeIhadaNameChange · 25/01/2018 14:47

Don't worry, prettybird - we had our Burn's supper last night so you're not the only one.

BIWI · 25/01/2018 15:12

@TheSeasonoftheWitch

Yes, there's going to be a fish/seafood thread, and also a poultry (chicken/duck) thread - when I get round to doing them!

BIWI · 25/01/2018 15:13

Oh, and a desserts/cake thread too

Almahart · 25/01/2018 15:38

whoknows I meant batch cook delicious low carb things for you!

mrsglowglow · 25/01/2018 15:57

I bought these as a snack today in
Waitrose for £1. They are unusual and taste quite salty but OK and nutritious and only 0.2 g carbs per pack!

Also got some of the lighter life seeded bread which was lovely toasted with lots of butter.

Week 3 – Keep celebrating the scale and non-scale victories!
mrsglowglow · 25/01/2018 15:58

sorry should say 0.4 g carbs in the pack!

ThunderboltsLightning · 25/01/2018 16:33

@Shnazzyshot there is quite a prolific PCOS/Keto presence on social media. I follow a woman in the US called Carisa Gilman who struggled to concieve for 10 years and then had a baby after she started low carbing. She puts it all down to low carb and talks a lot about it. Even though I don't have PCOS her story was one of the things that inspired me to think that low carb was a good thing.

prettybird · 25/01/2018 16:40

This recipe looks interesting for anyone who is egg-free/ vegan

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 25/01/2018 17:00

Alma, oh, I see! I do freeze portions of mashed swede etc but not often while meals. I think as much as anything the problem is that after heavy, fatty breakfast and lunch I only want something very light in the evenings and meals that I would enjoy normally I really don't feel like eating, they just seem too rich. I know I could just snack but I am becoming over-reliant on cheese, ham, celery etc.

BerylStreep · 25/01/2018 17:17

Happy Burns night all.
