New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

Mimosa I've cut and pasted my previous post about why men lose weight more easily than women...

The truth is that it is generally easier for men to lose weight than women. They have a higher proportion of muscle so their metabolism gives them an advantage. They don't have oestrogen hormones priming them to hang onto their fat stores. They don't have periods causing a temporary increase in calories and water retention each month. They're less likely to have low level thyroid issues. And they're less likely to succumb to comfort eating.

Queen if you're eating three (or even two) meals a day and feel satisfied without feeling hungry between meals or needing to snack, and you're losing weight most weeks then don't change anything! It's when people are having problems that we recommend making changes. Eating more fat and/or drinking more water are the solutions to most issues on this way of eating.

On vanity sizing, I have a pair of size 10 jeans from the early 90s and I'm pretty sure I will never fit into them again post-children. They originally fit me when I was 60kg and thought I was fat lol but even when I got down to 58kg a couple of years ago they still wouldn't do up.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 21/01/2018 17:53

B Greek yoghurt, coffee
L olives, cold chicken
S crackling crisps, coffee
D courgetti bolognese
W about 0.5litre. Utterly pathetic.

But I did manage to avoid all sorts of deliciousness that everyone else was having.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 21/01/2018 17:56

Worried that period / not enough water / the fact that I stalled for week 2 last time means I am going to stall for tomorrow’s weigh in. If that happens, I will just KOKO...

prettybird · 21/01/2018 17:59

There is still time to drink some water GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness Wink

Sounds like you did well on your food. Give yourself a big pat on the back. Smile

Thanks pretty bird, I am glugging it now (and will be cursing you when I get up to wee twenty times in the night!).

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 21/01/2018 18:02

And have just been told there was a spoonful of sugar in the bolognese sauce. Gah. But that was the last of the meals under someone else’s control :)

prettybird · 21/01/2018 18:08

Grin Grand Wink

....and don't worry about the added sugar. Divided into individual portions, that will be a tiny amount.

Thanks pretty for the food processor info - i will look into it. Thanks too for leading us for the past weeks - it's so good to have this thread & you're great at getting back to posters. Thank you to beryl for taking us on the next phase.

BIWI · 21/01/2018 18:24

I have another week before I'm back at work, so I'm going to start new recipe threads, based on specific ingredients, i.e. beef/pork/chicken/vegetarian, etc.

I'm going to start by copying and pasting from the existing recipe thread, but please feel free to add to them!

prettybird · 21/01/2018 18:27

BIWI - I'd started a 2nd thread so that there would be room to put in links on the original thread Smile

Evening all! Food logging Smile

L: massive Nandos blowout - I had 10 chicken wings to myself Blush and a side salad Grin
D: will be a 2 egg omlette with pancetta, mushroom and cheese fried in butter

Should hit 3l of water by bedtime.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 21/01/2018 19:40

I have had an impeccable day.
B: scrambled eggs with butter and cream and butter sauted mushrooms.
Lunch: salad with dressing and mayo and two chopped up chicken thighs.
Dinner: roast lamb, mint sauce, kale and leeks.

2/3 of a 2L bottle of sparkling and on 2nd lge mug of peppermint tea.

TitusAndromedon · 21/01/2018 20:01

I had the most delicious dinner. I did chicken fajitas using thighs instead of breast and served mine in a bowl of celeriac rice sautéed in butter, a layer of spinach leaves, and topped with grated cheddar, sour cream and guacamole. In the past I’ve always just had the chicken on a bed of lettuce, but this was so much nicer and more filling.

prettybird · 21/01/2018 20:17

My dinner tonight Smile

Steak with Boursin, brussels and asparagus.

.... and shallots fried in butter and the left over bacon fat from earlier this afternoon (why wash if I can make use of the flavour? Wink)

Lots of lovely food being posted/described. Great for ideas Smile

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 21/01/2018 20:57

Brunch - cheese, parma ham, sour cream and chive dip, celery.
Dinner - chilli, salsa and guacamole, grated cheese, huge pile of spinach and cucumber.
Snack - pork scratchings and a dairylea triangle
1 creamy coffee and 2 almond milk teas.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 21/01/2018 21:16

Looks delicious prettybird maybe that's because it is exactly what I had last night (except for the borsin) Grin

Today:
B: creamy coffee (wasn't that hungry and I was runoff my feet by the DC)
Lunch: 2 sausages, fried mushrooms, spinach and an egg
D: courgetti sauted in garlic oil with home made tom sauce (toms cooked down in garlic oil with a spoon of mascarpone) and mozzarella
S: babybel and a mini peperami
W: will be around 3 litres

Can feel the rumblings of my period so not sure what impact that will have on tomorrow's weigh in.

prettybird · 21/01/2018 21:27

Couldn't finish all the steak TheWayOfTheWorld (and nor could dh and ds) - which means there is plenty for a stir fry on Tuesday Smile (Although I need to get some more soy sauce).

Tomorrow night is chilli (kidney-bean-less for me) which I'll serve for myself with brussels (.....again Wink) Chilli again on Wednesday (ds has rugby training at Monday and Wednesday at 8, so we need to eat no later than 6.30).

Thursday is going to be haggis 'n' neeps (for me) 'n' tatties (for dh and ds) Smile

OP posts:
Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 21/01/2018 21:34

How bad are kidney beans? It's hard to leave them out the way I make chilli, but I don't put a huge amount in because DS doesn't like them. I had a few tonight.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 21/01/2018 21:34

I mean hard to lesvevthem out fir just my portion, I could leave them out altogether.

prettybird · 21/01/2018 22:03

Don't know just how bad they are but they are bad enough : I just take out a portion (enough for two Wink) before putting in the kidney beans. It just means that my portion(s) don't get the long slow cook that theirs does, as I can't be bothered watching over a small pot that could catch easily. The big pot can go in the oven on a low heat.

When I'm on Boot Camp Lite, I'll sometimes have the kidney beans (served with veg rather than rice) but only if I've otherwise been making good progress. Tomorrow/this week I'm still going to follow full Boot Camp with maybe the odd square of dark chocolate Smile

Just checking in to log food:

B - eggs scrambled with butter and cream, plus half an avocado and three slices of chorizo
L - roast pork with crackling, cabbage, kale and cauliflower
D - Pate on celery plus radish and cucumber

Feel a bit sick which I am worried might be related to the Pate...?! Will see what tomorrow morning's weigh in brings...

CointreauVersial · 21/01/2018 22:24

Food today:

Brunch - bacon and eggs
Snack - bulletproof coffee
Dinner - sauteed salmon steak, cauli mash, buttered sprouts

And a couple of sips of DH's red wine....

Hoping tomorrow reveals a pound or two lost; I can certainly feel a loosening of waistbands.
