New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

prettybird · 15/01/2018 08:10

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

Evening all!

Managed an 20hr fast today, mainly due to a walk into town and not getting back until 5pm.

Today's food:

2 slices of Emmenthal
Pork medallions with a med veg tomatoey sauce, broccoli and asparagus roasted in butter and sprinkled with a pinch of garlic salt
King prawns and a bit of Marie rose.

Am at 2.5 l of water but have had a few coffees and a small glass of coke zero too.

Grimbles · 20/01/2018 21:45

Oh, and I can't remember if I've already said, but I am officially 2 stone down since the start of September. I am hoping to be into the 11's by the end of bootcamp.

I had my waist measured back in the summer as part of my health check and it was 103 Cms (40"). Now it's 90cms (35.5")

prettybird · 20/01/2018 22:03

That's brilliant Grimbles Star That's a fantastic difference in your waist measurement - and great progress with your weight.

It's really motivating for others to see these success stories. Smile

Out of interest, what height are you and what's your current weight?

Just remembered, earlier in the week I was bemoaning the fact that Chicken Bovril disappeared from the shelves years ago. Well, I was pleased to be proved wrong today when I found some in Sainsburys.

Grimbles · 20/01/2018 22:38

I'm 5'5" and 12.7 at the moment. This woe definitely works!

I tend to be a 'whoosher' rather than a steady loser though. I remember getting quite upset and frustrated in the last BC because I didn't lose anything for a couple of weeks, and then all of a sudden a few lbs would go overnight and then the same would happen over the next couple of weeks. So, anyone who isn't recording a loss please stick with it as you may be building up to a whoosh.

BerylStreep · 20/01/2018 22:48

I'm looking forward to being guest OP from Monday. Just hope I can follow well in PrettyBird and BIWI's footsteps. Just need to persuade PrettyBird to relinquish the big stick. Grin

TheWayOfTheWorld we're off to Mayerhoffen in Austria. I absolutely adore skiing in Italy, and have done for the last 4 years. They make such a fuss of the DC and makes a welcome change from the austerity of ESF. My experience is that outside of the weekend slopes are deserted with really short lift queues. I also found Italy surprisingly good for low carb - it's not all pizza and pasta!

Ouch to cauliflower induced injuries!

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 20/01/2018 22:48

I don't always see any loss either, and my whooshes tend to be small (I am possibly not quite a strict as I should be) but I am happy with averaging a pound a week, if I go too strict and lose any faster I just know I will fall off the wagon and rebound (been there before). Slow and steady definitely works better for me.

prettybird · 20/01/2018 22:59

Great progress Grimbles - you and I are similar heights and you're tracking about 6 weeks behind me. I started at 14 stone 13lb in May and it took me c5 months to lose the first 2 stone.

I gained an extra inch after re-measuring myself after doing Pilates for a number of years - and an extra 1/2" after a particularly stretchy Pilates session WinkShock Every little helps when calculating BMI! Grin

Grin Beryl - I've got too very attached to it and. Don't. Want. To. Let. Go. Grin

Morning, all.

Rshard, your poor finger! I broke a forefinger once and it was eye-opening how many things I couldn't do properly without it. Hope it mends soon.

I decided last night that I'm definitely carrying on as I am for a while - even debating whether to BC lite got me into a here-are-the-situations-I-can-bend-the-rules debate in my head, and I'm not solid enough in my choices yet for that. And then I decided that 'for a while' was also too open to abuse, so I'm BC'ing for four weeks and will then reassess. As prettybird says, some of us are stuck being abstainers due to poor moderation ability! Which is why I'm here in the first place...

NSV - random: my earlobes have shrunk - they're tiny! I only noticed yesterday because I dug out some nice earrings to wear - and the lobes are literally half the size they were and a different shape. Bizarre. Who know you could get fat ears.

SV: I must have been BloatyMcBloatface, since I have lost another chunk of pounds, but my measurements are pretty much the same as they were two weeks ago (I started a week early). If that's mostly water weight I'm surprised I didn't splosh when I walked.

Itsjanuary · 21/01/2018 06:56

Ok I need to eat more fat (not something I thought I would be saying 😃)

Does this sound ok?

B coffee with cream, some turkey
Proper B - 2 boiled eggs, 4 - 6 slices of crispy streaky bacon to dip in eggs
L garlic butter fried flower sprouts
D pork loin chops, butter fried leeks (served with double cream & cheese - to make cheesy leeks). Cauliflower mash (lots of butter, cream and a little cheese)

S (if needed) coffee with cream, cheese

BIWI · 21/01/2018 07:28

That sounds better - but your lunch doesn't sound very much? Unless you're having a mountain of them, of course!

Eating more fat is always something people find difficult to start with, but the other thing that's also important to recognise is that this WOE isn't about depriving yourself - it's not like having to calorie count, and having tiny portions of food. Please make sure you're eating enough food to satiate yourself (at mealtimes).

The other thing to bear in mind, is that dairy can stall some people - you've added fat into your menu through cream and cheese (lovely! Grin) Other sources would be mayo (check the carb count though), and oily salad dressings (home-made rather than shop bought though)

Itsjanuary · 21/01/2018 07:39

Thanks BIWI

I can add some tuna mayo to my lunch so that I am getting some other fats and tomorrow will buy some avocados - forgot when I was shopping

I’ve been making my own salad dressing with apple cider vinegar & olive oil - will experiment with some other creamy dressings this week - just on amazon ordering the Tom Kerridge book after hearing everyone on here talking about it :-)

I think I will keep on BC cduring the week and go lite at the weekends

Good luck everyone for the weigh in tomorrow x

Rshard · 21/01/2018 08:46

Thanks for all the well wishes about my finger, I am realising how much I can’t do with one arm/hand athelstane! Dh is looking after be very well!

Welcome back BIWi

grimbles, those are seriously impressive results, you should be so proud of yourself.

Thanks beryl for taking control of week 3 and to you prettybird for being so brilliant for the first two weeks, you did an awesome job.

orkneyfudge · 21/01/2018 08:50

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question - what are M&S rollitos actually called and where do you find them in the shop (with sandwiches or with deli stuff)? Does anyone have a photo of them? I haven't been able to find out via Google (is rollito a MN word?) and couldn't find them last time I went to M&S Food and am heading back there today.

BIWI · 21/01/2018 09:03

M&S Rollitos

BIWI · 21/01/2018 09:04

NB There are two varieties - Serrano ham and Manchego cheese, and Chorizo and Diablo Cheddar

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 21/01/2018 09:07

They're with the deli stuff, pork pies etc not the sandwiches. Usually on some sort of 3 for £7 offer.

Rshard · 21/01/2018 09:12

They are gorgeous, I tried some from Tesco which were nice but not as good as the M&S ones

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 21/01/2018 09:20

I'm not all that keen on them, surprisingly as I love parma/serrano type hams and just about all cheeses. Haven't tried the chorizo ones as I hate chorizo. I prefer making my own with strong cheddar.

Polkadotties · 21/01/2018 10:10

NSV for me today, did my sports bra up on the tightest hook rather than struggling to do it up on the loosest.
I find I put on quickly and lose quickly in the ‘back fat’ area. I hate looking lumpy above my bra strap.

prettybird · 21/01/2018 10:11

Rshard - hope your finger gets better soon and you are less incapacitated. I'm fortunate in that I'm left handed so am more ambidextrous than most - but there are still loads of things that you need two hands to do Shock

I appreciate the thanks for doing this 2 weeks (as well as the introductory threads) but the truth is that I've enjoyed it, not just wielding the Big Stick a little too much but note importantly being able to encourage and guide people to achieve fantastic successes on this WoE. Smile

Goes away and strokes the Big Stick for one last day Grin

Can anyone tell me why men tend to do better on this woe? It's working for me too I should add but DH seems to be able to get away for more carbs and lost faster I'm not jealous
