As several people look like they're reaching or soon reaching their target, I thought it would be a good idea to start a maintenance thread.

I know lots of people are worried about how they're going to maintain, so having a support thread for ideas and suggestions sounds like it's going to be important!

Thanks pretty will go over and say hi to everyone in a bit. I am still planning on joining in, for at least the first 2 weeks to get back on track. I've been eating mainly low carb meals, but too much chocolate and puddings!

I have lost the 2lb I put on over Christmas, am now 9st 3 and am going to try and get to 9lb and then see how I feel.

Feeling rough today, I've got tonsillitis and want comforting food, keep thinking about the ice-cream in the freezer! But if I don't start BC today, there is a risk I never will and the sugar will have a hold of me forever!

Hippadippadation · 08/01/2018 16:09

Get some of the Halo Top to try @starsky! Grin

BrassicaBabe · 08/01/2018 16:50

Well I've joined BC. Maybe this thread will be where I come to confess Grin Not feeling the urge for dry January!

Grimbles · 08/01/2018 21:27

Sugar free sweeties made with isomalt instead of sugar. Yay or nay?

Wiki says isomalt has no impact on blood sugar and doesn't provoke an insulin response. Am I missing something?

FurryTurnipHead · 09/01/2018 09:14

Don't think I would Grimbles, but you may be stronger than I am! Even if it didn't give me a sugar spike I think mentally if I was allowing myself something that sweet it would set me off.

On that note, today really is day 1 of back on bootcamp . Yesterday's good intentions went out the window. I am now 1.5lbs over my goal weight which I know isn't a lot but means I am 4.5 over my pre Xmas wejght as I built in a buffer zone, and was happy at the lower end of the range.

I have meal planned the week, no crap in the house and about to do a HIIT workout.

Mumof5kiddies · 09/01/2018 10:15

Hi all,
I’m really struggling with maintenance. I’ve lost a fair amount of weight down from 71kg to 51kg in 6 months but as I start to increase my carbs my weight goes up the next day ☹️
I think I am one of those people that cannnot go beyond 30g of carbs a day.

Any ideas ladies?

FurryTurnipHead · 09/01/2018 11:27

Hi mum. Well done on the weight loss. I'm not in a strong position to advise as I am struggling too. But just wondering, is it all carbs that immediately put weight on or have you managed to identify the worst offenders? I know that sugar really affects me, whereas I can get away with potatoes with no harm.

Also, I was told to expect a few pounds gain when starting maintenance but it would level out. How long have you tried with increasing carbs, or if you see a small gain to do you immediately cut back? May be worth trying for a couple of weeks and see if it settles?

starsky22 · 09/01/2018 13:58

Day 2 of strict bootcamp and I am struggling! Can't believe how quickly the sugar gets hold of you again! I'm not hungry, but can't stop thinking about chocolate! Can anyone remember how long it takes for the sugar cravings to go?

I think the fact that I don't really need to lose anymore makes it harder to stick to BC, as I don't have the weight loss to motivate me.

FurryTurnipHead · 09/01/2018 14:37

I'm much the same as you Starsky, finding it hard to get through the cravings. I think it was about 3 days for me last time to get the sugar out my system. Luckily there is none in the house, though I will admit that yesterday I ate Nutella straight from the jar!

Agree much tougher when you don't have any weight or only a little bit to lose makes it much harder to stay focused. For me I am focusing on the improved mood and skin that I will get from ditching the sugar again, I get proper massive dark rings under my eyes within a couple of days of sugar binges now.

Mumof5kiddies · 09/01/2018 14:42

Thanks furry, yes definitely the sugar here. I had a week off on holiday over the Xmas period gained 4kg but was able to lose it all within a week going back to strict BC rules.

Maybe I will start with more carby veg and see how that affects me.

Losing the weight was easy maintaining is another kettle of fish altogether 😩

FurryTurnipHead · 09/01/2018 15:06

Totally agree mum, I'm quite envious of those on the new bootcamp that they have a few weeks of sticking to it and regularly losing weight without having to think about it too much.

Also know now that I just can't do half measures with sugar, for me it is all or nothing, so it's got to be nothing... (sniffle)

starsky22 · 09/01/2018 16:03

I'm not sure what caused me to gain weight over the Christmas period, as I had potatoes, bread, chocolate, puddings and alcohol! So could have been any or all of them!

I can't talk about this on the bootcamp thread, but I've got a Lindt reindeer that I really want to eat! Keep thinking I should just eat it, so it's gone and I'm no longer obsessing over it!

BrassicaBabe · 09/01/2018 21:40

starsky GrinGrin that made me proper laugh. Thanks.

I'm on day 2 of my Pizza Hut experiment. (Before BC started it should be noted!) 10.4.4 on day of pizza. 10.6.0 the day after pizza. 10.5.4 this morning. Let's see what tomorrow holds!

I wonder if I'm kidding myself joining BC. I'm doing strict BC except alcohol but just can't see much more loss. That said I'm still a firm size 12. I kidded myself before Xmas buying some size 10 jeans online. They didn't fit but a factor of scout 5 inches!!!

starsky22 · 09/01/2018 21:57

brassica I'd suggest stick with the 2 weeks and see what happens with your weight and how you feel. That's what I'm going to do. I'm not sure I'll lose anymore, but even if I don't at least it will have stopped the sugar cravings!

I have managed to avoid the chocolate, had a lovely dinner of pork wrapped in serrano ham and cabbage fricassee. I do like how this woe makes us cook better meals and eat more veg.

prettybird · 09/01/2018 22:00

Brassicababe - you do know that alcohol is used for energy before fat, if you're still wanting to lose a few pounds?! of course you do Wink

BrassicaBabe · 09/01/2018 23:06

pretty you really don't want to know about my Diet Coke habit either Grin

Flip aside I find this woe easy and I'm happy to stick with it. Maintenance or further weight loss. For the first time in my life I'm exercising too so let's see where that leads.

prettybird · 09/01/2018 23:16
Grin

....but at least you're not mentioning these aberrations Maintenance approaches on the Boot Camp thread Wink

BrassicaBabe · 10/01/2018 10:08

We could rename the thread...LC Maintenance: the confessions!

Back to pre-Pizza Hut weight! So it took 2 days. Overall calorie intake on those 2 days were pretty low but I'm happy with that as penance for an occasional blow out. We're away this Saturday but going to a fish restaurant so LC will be easy enough.

FurryTurnipHead · 10/01/2018 10:50

Well while we are on confessions I'll admit to not following strict bootcamp like I said I would during the week. But, I have consciously chosen to eat the carbs and still feel in control.

I suppose technically I shouldn't be confessing as it's just part of maintenance to be adding carbs, just hard to get my head into.

I've had porridge oats for last couple of days, mixed with Greek yogurt and fruit as overnight oats. Mainly because I've been doing a lot of exercise, and despite the fact that exercise on low carb is possible, I never felt as strong or like I had as much stamina when on low carb. Maybe I wasn't in the full on fat burning mode. Anyway, going on holiday in February that will require a swimming costume so very keen to tone up!

prettybird · 10/01/2018 11:24

Furryturniphead - that used to be one of my favourite breakfasts (recipe from yonks ago in the Good Housekeeping from a spa where the nutritionist had horrified people by saying it should be full fat yoghurt Shock). At least the porridge oats are low GI.

FurryTurnipHead · 10/01/2018 12:33

I had forgotten how lovely it was pretty. I think sometimes it's about having a different texture to vary things a bit.

That was my extra carbs for day so food plan is this:

B: overnight oats made with Greek yogurt and almond milk
L: cauliflower rice with halloumi and avocado with harissa mayo
D: omelette with spinach and mushrooms

starsky22 · 10/01/2018 22:09

I'm here for confession! Have fallen off the low carb wagon, had a sausage roll this afternoon and then for dinner DH cooked cauliflower cheese using flour and with breadcrumbs on top. To be fair he had tried and failed twice to make a cheese sauce with cream and so couldn't complain too much!

I'm still sticking to no sugar though!

BIWI · 11/01/2018 00:14

How could he fail?! Heat cream, dump I’m a load of grated cheese and heat till it melts!

That's what I said BIWI He said it scrambled!?
