As several people look like they're reaching or soon reaching their target, I thought it would be a good idea to start a maintenance thread.

I know lots of people are worried about how they're going to maintain, so having a support thread for ideas and suggestions sounds like it's going to be important!

Afraid my red cabbage recipe would include red current jelly which I'm sure is a no no.

I saw a recipe on the recipe thread for braised white cabbage which I've been meaning to try. It's cooked in double cream!

FurryTurnip · 03/01/2018 22:37

Could you use the cabbage instead of pasta in a lasagne? Ive done it with savoy but not sure if red and white would be too thick and crunchy?

FurryTurnip · 04/01/2018 13:02

Annoyingly gained half a pound today, after two days of being back on it. I suspect that it may be delayed sticky toffee pudding damage from New Years day!

Hippadippadation · 04/01/2018 17:55

Brassica Tom Kerridge lost the weight through LCHF, his dopamine diet is basically a higher carb bootcamp. What do you mean he's not LCHF?

Sing I love raw red cabbage in salads, got one on the go at the moment. Otherwise braise it with a load of wholegrain mustard. One of my fave things to do.

I'm down another half lb today, you must have mine Furry haha.

I've been managing to avoid the christmas chocs etc, I seem to be back in the mindset and really loving it. Also discovered that my sugar free coffee syrups are actually quite lovely in Greek yoghurt. There's a tip for you.

My food today has been a bit random, as DH took the DDs out all day so I could study:

Scrambled egg & ham
Homemade curried parsnip soup
2 satsumas
Lots of water

Bit peckish now, so not sure what to have. The red cabbage is calling to me from the fridge thanks to Singadream so I might have it in a massive salad with tuna.

prettybird · 04/01/2018 18:52

Hippa - Tom Kerridge's own weight loss (and his Dopamine diet book) was based on low carb and fat (butter, cream, oil, FF Greek yoghurt).

However his TV series (which started yesterday) is based on calorie counting and restricting calorie intake and the standard message of "eatess, move more". It includes things like "lower calorie muffins" and "low calorie rice pudding" while also using zero fat Greek yoghurt, low fat ricotta, 1 calorie oil sprays.....

He even admits in the programme that it's not the way he lost weight but then says that his way is too difficult for most people Hmm

BrassicaBabe · 04/01/2018 19:49

Yep TK. I thought the programme would be LCHF because of what I've heard about the book. But the TV was definitely traditional low calSad

prettybird · 04/01/2018 19:58

There's apparently a different book associated with the TV programme.

Interestingly, the Dopamine Diet book is now out of stock on Amazon for 1-2 months Shock I wonder if that is deliberate Hmm

Hippadippadation · 05/01/2018 09:59

That's ridiculous about Tom Kerridge. He's clearly just doing it for the money. Personally I think LCHF is much easier than HCLF!!

starsky22 · 05/01/2018 12:24

I agree, there is no way I could do low fat/calorie counting. The thought of cooking a roast chicken and leaving the skin fills me with dread!

I'm slowly getting back on track no pudding/choc yesterday and down a pound today. Also managing to do 16:8 fast most days. Still got far too much chocolate and tempting food in the house though and want to do strict bootcamp from Monday.

FurryTurnip · 05/01/2018 13:20

I was also really disappointed by the Tk programme. Having seen a few diet things on TV this week it feels like none of them are prepared to pin their sail to the mast around Lchf. They all talk about its effectiveness but it feels like as there isn't enough long term data they aren't prepared to promote it fully. Which I can sort of understand from health professionals, but would have been good if TK had gone with it on the programme.

BrassicaBabe · 05/01/2018 14:24

I'm a bit fed up with all the diet programs on tv. It's hard to find anything half decent!

I'm making doner kebab for this evening. I'm a bit sad though. In the old days I'd have made my own naan or pita to go with it. I miss the carby aspects of entertaining

FurryTurnip · 05/01/2018 15:01

Agree Brassica there are certain things that just aren't the same without bread. Curry is not right without chapati or naan bread to mop up the sauce. But now I'm at goal I'll just have it, but only a small portion and only on occasions. That's the bit I like about maintaining, its remembering I can actually have those extra bits and there won't be too much damage.... (says the woman who has just polished off half a bar of dark chocolate....)

Agree about the diet programmes too, quite depressing really that the same things are on year after year. I am so glad I have now found a way of eating that suits me and I don't have to go back to that yo-yo diet lifestyle.

MargotTippytoes · 06/01/2018 07:19

Just saying hi because I have name changed, following reading the thread about being identified. Not that anyone would identify me from listing what I eat on a low carb thread. I am a previously hairyish root vegetable.

BrassicaBabe · 06/01/2018 07:54

Hi Margot is there another MN hack scandal in the offing or are you a one off? I'm sure your LC secrets are safe with us Grin

MargotTippytoes · 06/01/2018 08:16

Ha ha, no, was just reading the thread about people being outed. And though this thread wouldn't do that, I realise I've not name changed for years so thought the new year was a fine time for a new, carb free alter ego!

Fell off the wagon a bit yesterday. Was cleaning out cupboards and found a mini Twix and a Club biscuit... Today's a new day, off to make some chia porridge.

Velocity · 06/01/2018 09:01

I've been back on LCHF after the Christmas/new year carb indulgence. Have sorted out cupboards and have hidden the excess chocolate. Trying to get back to 16:8 but my body is not quite comfortable with that rhythm yet. My DH is proposing to re-Start his LCHF with a 24 hour fast - has anyone else done this?

BrassicaBabe · 06/01/2018 12:00

Home made doner kebab was bloody ace! I had mine with garlic mayo, white cabbage and onion. DH had his with a pita too. We washed it down with fizz just because! It made for a nice Friday evening x

FurryTurnipHead · 06/01/2018 12:58

Wow Velocity a 24 hour fast would be impressive and would certainly reset your system. Can't say I'd ever try it though as I suspect I'd be a cow to live with.

Name changed back, couldn't live with the new identity!

Hippadippadation · 06/01/2018 16:43

I couldn't do a 24 hour fast. Is he only having water? Good luck to him!

prettybird · 06/01/2018 19:39

I've done a few 24 hour fasts over the last couple of Boot Camps.

Counter-intuitively, I've chosen to do them when I'm going to be busy and out of the house (eg supporting ds at rugby) so that I don't get a chance to prowl the house looking for a snack Wink I also make sure to drink plenty of water.

So, I have a meal on the Friday night and them don't eat again until the following evening. It's not that different to a 16:8 fast - it's just that I don't have any food available to me in the afternoon until I get home! Grin

Hippadippadation · 07/01/2018 17:52

Gah - emotional eating cravings ahoy. DDs have been stressing me out to the max today and I want chocolate so badly I could cry. Eating chocolate never ends well for me, always turns into a binge, so having a little bit isn't an option. Just going to have to power through it. Sad

prettybird · 07/01/2018 18:02

You can do it Hippa - it won't actually make you feel better. In fact, with hindsight, you will feel worse because you will be annoyed at yourself.

You've been doing brilliantly. Give yourself some Flowers and go and put some lipstick on to show that you are worth it Star

FurryTurnipHead · 07/01/2018 21:18

Hippa hope you managed to avoid the chocolate. I caved in today and feel crap for it, really tired and moody. I'm going to do full bootcamp until the weekend as I need to refocus.

Hippadippadation · 07/01/2018 23:34

Oh I avoided the chocolate, I have no choice. I literally can't eat it unless I want a full on desperate binge. Which obviously I don't!

Just seen something on another site that Tesco have Halo Top ice cream, which is supposed to be a bit like Oppo. There's loads of interesting looking flavours like cinnamon roll and peanut butter. I'm dying to try it, but I have 2 tubs of Oppo in the freezer that need eating first!

FurryTurnipHead · 08/01/2018 09:17

Oh my god those ice cream flavours sound amazing. But I shall resist.

I have realised that I am the same Hippa I just can't do chocolate in moderation. I'm not even going to admit how much I ate yesterday, and all of it in a very secretive binge eating kind of way, in the car, packets disposed of. That's just not healthy in any way.

So today is day 1, hard-core bootcamp until the weekend, when we have a meal out and I'll allow myself some extra carbs. I find weekends really hard on maintenance so maybe I need to do bootcamp during week and have my extras at weekend and see how that goes, like a reverse 5:2.
