As several people look like they're reaching or soon reaching their target, I thought it would be a good idea to start a maintenance thread.

I know lots of people are worried about how they're going to maintain, so having a support thread for ideas and suggestions sounds like it's going to be important!

I've got a posh frock "thing" first weekend of fab and before that I've got 2 weekends away/out in January. Panic is setting in....

starsky22 · 29/12/2017 21:40

Weighed myself this morning and I weigh the same as I did on Monday, but that's mainly because I picked up a sickness bug and started vomiting on Christmas Day! Didn't even make it to pudding! Am feeling better now and feel like I need to make up for the eating I have missed and can't stop! Have just had sticky toffee pudding and salted caramel ice-cream. Yum!

I also need it to be Jan so I can get back to normal eating!

Almahart · 29/12/2017 21:57

I'd been eating reasonably mindfully until this evening when was overtaken by carb demons.

Have had enough of this now. Have put 3ibs in and want to get back to low carb now!

BrassicaBabe · 29/12/2017 22:02

Sorry to hear you've been poorly starsky It's a crappy time of year for a sickness bug but there's heaps around.

I've got to the major munchies. But I'm managing to stick to low carb snacking....

BrassicaBabe · 30/12/2017 08:58

3 Xmas lbs off 3 to go!

littlebillie · 30/12/2017 12:39

I hadn't moved a lb upwards since November and now a few days post Christmas I'm up 5lb back to it 🙄

FurryTurnip · 30/12/2017 22:49

Well done Brassicayou are the inspiration for those of us who need to get back on it.

Singadream · 30/12/2017 23:34

I weighed myself after my two week Christmas off the wagon and I have maintained. Woohoo. I haven’t been having carbs with meals but I have been having plentiful mince pies etc and wine so that is great. Staying at a friend for new year but back in it in a big way from Jan 2nd.
Also had a nsv week before Xmas when at a posh work dinner I said no to the bread roll which made me feel very virtuous whereas usually I would just absent mindedly take one. And ate just half the pud.
Also on Christmas Day I only had one and a half roast potatoes. This was a big deal for me!

FurryTurnip · 31/12/2017 07:38

Very well done Sing, that's impressive, and proves it can be done without falling headlong into a tonne of sugar, like I've done!

BrassicaBabe · 01/01/2018 10:13

Sing that's amazing.

I'm now only 0.4lb up on xmas. I'll take that. Although fish and chips by the sea is probably in my future for today. I will probably abstain but feel a bit of a diet loon when I sit with nothing while others eat

BIWI · 01/01/2018 11:24

Morning all, and a very happy new year to us all Thanks

What you're all experiencing is the harsh reality of maintenance. It's tough. But the key thing to have I. Your head is the acceptance that there isn't just one number on the scales you should be at - but that it's a range.

When you eat a lot of carbs again, you are refilling your glycogen stores. And this can account for as much as half a stone. This is stored energy, so the best thing to do is use that up! Eat low carb as soon as you can (but eat normally, don't deprive yourself or eat something you wouldn't - this is about your ongoing life after all!), drink plenty of water and do some extra exercise.

BrassicaBabe · 01/01/2018 16:02

How many grams of carbs are we allowed?! I've just eaten 24g

I don't have a sweet tooth. I really don't. Not fussed about the piles of chocolate the kids have. But I dooooo like Lindor truffle balls. MIL bought us a huge ball thing of them. I've made the mistake of opening them. And eaten 2 x 2. I say 2 x2 instead of 4 because I planned for 2 then went back and had 2 more Grin

Other than that for me a mushroom omelette for lunch.

FurryTurnip · 02/01/2018 08:22

Right, morning. Officially back on it today, life returns to normal and all the crap is out of the house.

Weighed myself and am 2.75lbs up from pre Xmas weight, so still under my goal. Quite surprised by that I have eaten very badly, but it's taken its toll in other areas. Big dark rings under eyes, body feels wobbly, ratty, short tempered, hot flushes and also (this may be tmi!) but I've noticed if I eat too much sugar I get thrush like symptoms.

So it's day one of proper maintenance, more systematic, no sugar at all.

Thanks BIWI for your support, useful to remember maintenance is a range and we will move within it. And yes, it's very tough!!

starsky22 · 02/01/2018 09:58

Just weighed and I've put on 2lbs over the last couple of days, still under my target weight so I'm ok with that. This week I'm going to concentrate on drinking more water and eat mostly low carbs meals, whilst I get rid of all the carby temptation in the house. Then going to join bootcamp on 8th Jan to reset myself for a low carb 2018!

Also going to do dry January.

Oh and at some point I should think about doing some exercise!

FurryTurnip · 02/01/2018 10:09

Starsky just interested in you joining the next bootcamp. Are you at your final goal, or did you just reach an interim goal at the last bootcamp and want to carry on losing weight? Must admit I am going to miss the bootcamp thread and may well lurk on there....

Also need to up the exercise, planning to finally get out those Kettlebells, I am going away at Feb half term and swimming costumes will be involved so I want to get toned up a bit!

starsky22 · 02/01/2018 10:40

I did get to my final goal, but now I'm there I think I'd like to lose a bit more. However the main reason for bootcamp is because I've got into the habit of having chocolate/pudding over Christmas and I want a couple of weeks off sugar to reset myself and then I think I'll find maintenance much easier. Worried that my recent eating could become permanent!

FurryTurnip · 02/01/2018 11:01

I'm with you there Starsky the sugar is so addictive. I'd got into a really bad habit of having chocolate every time I went into the kitchen. I'm now swapping it for a glass of water!

Good plan re bootcamp, plus you'll be a great inspiration to those starting out.

Grimbles · 02/01/2018 11:04

So my carby week ended up being a carby 9 days. Yesterday was spent finishing off the pringles and kettle chips Blush

Still only 3lbs over my pre Xmas weight, af is due and my fingers are quite swollen so touch wood it is just water weight that will go once I am back on plan.

Back on it today, am fasting til 2pm and am not feeling hungry yet so hopefully I can slip back into a 16:8 without too much hassle!

I got a Fitbit for Christmas which I am finding very useful at the moment, I can log food and water on it and as it measures my heart rate and activity it works out calorie usage and defecits - it also breaks food down into macros so that will be interesting too!

Hippadippadation · 02/01/2018 20:09

Hi everyone, hope you all had a good xmas and happy new year! Will catch up on the thread later.

Up 4lbs over xmas, even though I wasn't a carby twat, (except for a blowout on my Green & Black's set on xmas day) but that still puts me under where I'm happy and I believe a couple of lbs is probably water weight.

Back to low-ish carb, under 80g every day so will see where I am on Friday.

DD2 was ill over xmas with a sick bug and DH has been ill over new year with a sore throat virus thing, so haven't even had the chance to indulge in our lovely LCHF continental buffet we got for new year's eve. It'll keep until Friday I hope so we can really enjoy it.

I'm kind of missing being on the main BC thread, is that weird? Even though there's no need for me to be on it?

FurryTurnip · 02/01/2018 20:28

Not weird at all Hippa I also miss the main thread! Also, having started again on the low carb stuff today I realise how much I've missed eating this way. I feel better psychologically already, just more in control.

My extra carbs today were in a couple of potatoes and some carrots. Everything else was bootcamp worthy. Keeping a close eye on how my body feels as over Xmas had loads of bloating and wind, but suspect it was all the sugar.

Hippadippadation · 03/01/2018 09:11

Thank god I'm back down another lb today. I think I was right it was water retention, I'm constantly in the loo at the moment!

Food plan for today:

Smoked salmon & scrambled eggs
Roast partridge breast & spaghetti squash salad

Loads more water to shift the water retention!!

FurryTurnip · 03/01/2018 09:18

Well done Hippa, and blimey that's a very fancy low carb menu.

Almost a lb off for me too. Today's plan:

Scrambled egg with half a protein roll
Leftover cauliflower and broccoli cheese
Greek salad

Looking at that there are no extra carbs in it, so I am going to have to consciously add some, as I'm back under goal. Might add some mixed beans to the salad.

Grimbles · 03/01/2018 19:07

Phew, it appears my carbytwat weight gain was mostly water and I am back in the 12's again!

Being back at work and getting back into a routine is a relief in some ways.

BrassicaBabe · 03/01/2018 20:24

Hmm the good stuff: streaky bacon and halloumi for lunch (happy to miss breakfast) and pheasant with green chilli for dinner (sounds wanky but I had them festering in the freezer and am determined to get them used up).

The bad stuff: 2 lindor balls and cleaned up half the kids chicken Kiev.

Watching Tom Kerridge for some reason. Thought he was LC. Well he really isn't.

Singadream · 03/01/2018 21:12

First proper day lchf post Christmas today. Any ideas what to do with half a red cabbage and half a green cabbage left over from making coleslaw?
