Week 3 - the parting of the way! - Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hope you've seen a good result, making for a very satisfying first two weeks.

Now. Those two weeks were probably quite tough, so if you want to, you can now move on to Bootcamp Light - the rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Essentially this means you can start to skip breakfast (or another meal) if you want to - if you're finding that you're not hungry. (Please don't skip meals for any other reason)

You can also introduce some fruit - mainly berries - in moderation, and also nuts and seeks - again, in moderation - and alcohol - IN MODERATION!

But. It's very often the case that in weeks 3 and 4 your weight loss will slow right down. Sometimes you may see a slight gain, even though you know you've been following Bootcamp to the letter. So you may not want to relax things quite yet.

Entirely up to you.

Remember, though, if you choose to stay on Bootcamp, please remember to make sure you're getting your carbs in the most part from vegetables and fruit - you need that for proper nutrition.

If you like you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

But whatever you choose - good luck and I hope you have a good week. Flowers

Ok fine. I don't want to upset anyone. I'm off. Thanks all and good luck! Xx

I'm back from a few days away staying with friends, had a lovely time, but worried about what the scales will show tomorrow. I told them in advance that I was doing low carb and they did their best, but there were some things that were carbier than I would have liked (butternut squash noodles and crackers in meatballs) also probably not enough fat as my friend is in the low fat camp. I also drank wine, which I know affects me and we had an indian take-away on the last night and I had a few bites of poppadom and naan, I wish I hadn't as I didn't feel great after eating them. Have thought about why I did and feel it's because I had already eaten some carbs/drank wine and knew I wouldn't have a loss this week and so thought what difference will it make having a few more carby things. Really not a great way to think. However, I could have gone completely overboard and dived into more carbs today, in fact was very tempted by an M&S turkey feast sandwich for lunch today, but I didn't and am back on low carb today. Also, despite drinking wine and some carbs, I didn't have anything sweet, which would be my usual downfall, so pleased about that.

Scabbersley You are lucky to be able to have a croissant and still lose weight on this woe, I know that any carbiness take me out of ketosis, I put on weight and I feel awful getting back onto low carb, so I do try to avoid it (should have reminded myself of this last night!).

I agree that part of the purpose of this thread is to keep us accountable, BIWI has her stick for a reason, sometimes we need to be told sternly to look at what we are eating. I posted the other week that I was thinking about eating cake and it really helped to have posters telling me bluntly not to do it. Weeks 3 and 4 are notorious for being difficult and people will often stall or even gain weight, so to be honest it's not a great time to be experimenting with what carbs you can get away with eating.

Blimey, croissant-gate!

I can only say that I have had major support on this and the previous bc. Sometimes it is tough love and sometimes a shoulder to cry on. Food is not just fuel. It can be filled with emotions, from our childhoods, relationships, society, our body image, etc etc. I have been fat all my adult life and I have learned a lot on BC about why that is. It has literally changed my life for the better. And in many ways.

I have not found bc to be judgy, well not in a bad way. We are all here to support each other and to keep each other on the straight and narrow. Sometimes that involves a raised eyebrow or a question about why someone has made a particular food choice or BIWIs big stick. That is what we are all here for. And to share our struggles so we all learn from each other.

Scabbers i do hope you stay and keep posting and contributing. Nobody should feel unwelcome here unless you are peddling WW or SW Grin

ClearEyesFullHearts · 29/10/2017 23:50

I actually thought people might be a little bit supportive.

Loads of posters regularly say it's your choice, don't worry, get back on to Bootcamp tomorrow, etc.

Some point out that some foods are not BC, because a lot of people here are new to LCHF and actually don't know, so it's informative.

What kind of support did you hope for but not get, Scabbersley? I'm genuinely curious.

YoLoNovVitMe · 30/10/2017 00:03

So here is my food accountability today:
B: bacon mushrooms and greens fried in butter
L: plougmans with no bread. Basically a cheese salad.
D: creamy soup.
Late S: cheese, creamy coffees, 2 squares dark choc

My learning point for today was that I wasn't really hungry at lunchtime due to a late breakfast, but I ate the food anyway. This was because we were out and others in the group were hungry, and it was lunchtime. So I conformed and didn't enjoy the food at all and regretted eating it. As a result i didnt eat dinner until late. Also had far too much cheese today. I just fancied something after dinner but I didn't really need it hence the snacks.

Next time, I will just have a coffee while everyone else eats and have handbag snacks for if I get hungry later. Planning is key. And will just drink water in the evening instead of browsing the kitchen.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 30/10/2017 01:54

I’m feeling a bit better this evening. Thanks for all the supportive messages earlier. I did really need it.

Today’s food:
B- scrambled egg, sausage, bacon, avocado
L- 2x babybel and 3x slices Parma ham
D- cheeseburger no bun with green salad and a square of dark chocolate.

Good luck for weigh ins tomorrow guys. Unless my next hotel has scales I won’t be joining you but I’ll catch up again next week.

HarlotsWeb · 30/10/2017 04:17

238.4lbs for me. 1lb off since last time. Could have been a lot worse so I shall just be grateful I haven't gained.

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 30/10/2017 05:01

Wow. Lots of jabbering here this weekend.
Not sure I agree with ith long term panicking over Xmas. Months away. Or 10 to 15 lbs. If I'm lucky.
Sticking with this being Day 1 of 50 were I plan to stick to some rules that make my current eating different from normal.

If you want to have different rules go for it.
As for portion size eat when hungry. I'm not cutting calories but carbs so if hungry eat or drink something fatty.
Sometimes I have a large portion then find there is a longer period in between or the next meal I take less.

Good luck on the stall week weighing don't be upset if the fat cells are fighting to exist by filling with water. They'll get flushed in a week or 2.

Rshard · 30/10/2017 06:36

I don’t think it’s panicking over Christmas food, more acknowledgment of the usual huge amount of food that’s about and recognising that it’s a huge opportunity to slip back into old habits. So I’m calling it planning for Christmas and retaining control. That control might be a day or two off or being really strict, going to be different for different folk.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 30/10/2017 06:37

3llbs off this week - very pleased!

ilovecherries · 30/10/2017 06:45

Hmm. I want to be clear, Scabbersley, that being upset was MY issue. I don't need people to be avoiding things to protect my feelings. I was trying to explain, maybe badly, that bootcamp is strict for a reason. Many of us are here because we have a lifetime of poor food choices, and for some of us that has led to metabolic difficulties. I have no vested interest in what other people eat, or don't, but I'm making an assumption that everyone here wants to change in some way, and although croissant gate passed me by completely, I do think it's important part of support that we are sometimes challenged. I'm really sorry you didn't find it supportive, and I would be really interested to know what you were hoping for when you say you'd hoped for more support, because maybe it could have been provided.

CarbyDeadUn · 30/10/2017 07:09

I appear to have put on 4lbs. Either my scales are broken or this isn’t working for me.

SayrraT · 30/10/2017 07:09

link to week 4

SayrraT · 30/10/2017 07:10

carby go to week 4 thread! A gain is normal in week 4 you just need to KOKO

Veryflummoxed · 30/10/2017 08:35

I wrote a very long and post and lost it.
Basically Scabersley keep posting please and please be honest. I think we’ve all had responses we’re not happy with at one time or another but there is loads of support here for everyone as well.
Timbuktu sounds to me like you’re getting there and yes I agree you may well not be fat adapted yet.
* put it behind me, no regrets* I’d say this is healthy. Especially if you add “and learn from it”

I think this thread had always been a combination of brutal and supportive. Probably both are needed so long as the supportive far outweighs the brutal which I think it does

Well done Starsky

Sorry if I’m repeating what’s already been said. I’m still catching up with the thread but wanted to post before I lost it again.

BlackMozart · 31/10/2017 00:17

Just catching up after a busy weekend and Monday so have got very behind but I have read every word, promise.
So much humanity on here. I think the phrase I would use is we are ‘flawed but willing’; or maybe sometimes both flawed and unwilling but never less than human.
I’ve done one week of bc and have stuck to it. No red wine no chocolate more water than before so I will be interested to see if the scales show any change. I could do with...ahem...a ‘movement’
Whatever happens I promised myself I would do 2 weeks no straying and then I will pause and re-evaluate whether to stay on bc or go to bc lite. I have about 4 stone to lose so ideally want to keep my head down and go for it.
Wishing everyone well.
