Week 3 - the parting of the way! - Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hope you've seen a good result, making for a very satisfying first two weeks.

Now. Those two weeks were probably quite tough, so if you want to, you can now move on to Bootcamp Light - the rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Essentially this means you can start to skip breakfast (or another meal) if you want to - if you're finding that you're not hungry. (Please don't skip meals for any other reason)

You can also introduce some fruit - mainly berries - in moderation, and also nuts and seeks - again, in moderation - and alcohol - IN MODERATION!

But. It's very often the case that in weeks 3 and 4 your weight loss will slow right down. Sometimes you may see a slight gain, even though you know you've been following Bootcamp to the letter. So you may not want to relax things quite yet.

Entirely up to you.

Remember, though, if you choose to stay on Bootcamp, please remember to make sure you're getting your carbs in the most part from vegetables and fruit - you need that for proper nutrition.

If you like you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

But whatever you choose - good luck and I hope you have a good week. Flowers

Was a carby twat yesterday - had fish pie with loads of potato. We were round for lunch at friends and whilst I could have scraped it off the top i’d Have looked more of a twat/been rude to do it (i’m not sure i’ll ever get over not wanting to seem rude). Anyway, onwards today!! Hopefully weigh in tomorrow won’t be too bad...

Cherrypi · 29/10/2017 07:21

NSV - size 14 pyjamas fit and I love them 😍

Shock
HarlotsWeb · 29/10/2017 07:33

totty the rudeness fear really is the biggest saboteur, isn't it?

Thiswillbemyusername · 29/10/2017 07:35

Morning!

I miss my creamy morning coffee Sad I'm still at a relatives and they only have skimmed milk. I might go to b&m and buy those little cream cups as PP mentioned, for next time Grin (love the advice given on here I'm finding it incredibly helpful, thank you)

Almahart · 29/10/2017 07:38

I agree and eating at friends' houses is by far the biggest challenge. It's so difficult not to worry about rudeness, or having to explain what sounds like a wierd diet

HarlotsWeb · 29/10/2017 07:44

Exactly alma. And even if I do manage to say something, I invariably then temper it to lessen the "offence". So I avoided the massive baked potato yesterday, but then had some of the cake. Because I somehow couldn't say no twice.

Mimosa1 · 29/10/2017 07:48

Hi everyone. Just checking in.
Food yesterday
B- eggs and pancetta
L - chicken salad with avocado , green beans and red onions (not strictly BC)
D - leftover chicken and buttered cauliflower rice w parsley

Slimey - i also dislike the mouthfeel of cream in tea or coffee but I've got used to a splash of whole milk. You need less to turn the hit drink white compared to skim stuff. A little whole milk on this woe should be fine, it's big lattes or glasses of milk that are a problem.

SoMuchToBits · 29/10/2017 08:11

Slimey, if you are finding everything a bit fatty/greasy, maybe you could try having a portion of plain steamed veg or undressed salad with your meal. So long as the main meal has plenty of fat, a "fresh" accompaniment would probably be ok, and give your palate a break from the butter/oil/cream/mayonnaise. And maybe a snack of cucumber sticks or celery would help.

prettybird · 29/10/2017 08:19

My NSV from last night is going to a Cheese & Wine and not having any wine and choosing not to have anything from the buffet. Instead I probably had too many had some peanuts and resisted the crisps and some chunks of cheese and lots of water. It helped that it was a fundraiser so the wine that was included in the ticket price was pretty crap Grin (dh had my mini carafe). Drank loads of water instead. Had to keep going through to the "bar" (aka the kitchen Wink) to top up from the tap.

We did finish the evening by going across the road to our friend's and getting him to open a decent bottle of wine Blush but I only had a small glass and refused top-ups.

Today's challenge is going to be the fact that I'm making a batch of tablet this morning Shock

Veryflummoxed · 29/10/2017 08:25

Chai latte chai teabag (cinnamon spicy flavour) cover in boiled water.* Steep for three minutes. Warm almond milk, some cream if you like. Froth with frothers if you want to. Add to steeped tea. I didn’t expect to like it. It is delicious.*

SoMuchToBits · 29/10/2017 08:28

I also agree that the hardest thing is avoiding carbs when at other people's houses for fear of seeming rude. Does anyone have any good strategies for this?

I'm trying to plan ahead for when we visit my sister at Christmas. She is a good cook, and there will be plenty of veg and salad, and also protein things I can eat (she does a good potted pork and always gets in nice cheeses), but the hard thing will be refusing all the things I would have eaten in the past but now don't (mince pies, trifle etc). These will all be home made and much harder to decline than processed crap.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 29/10/2017 08:30

Harlot it absolutely is. I guess because if someone came to my house and started scraping potato or whatever off a pie, i’d be a bit 🙄 too. Well obviously I wouldn’t now on this woe but previously I would if i’d gone to effort to make a nice lunch. I did refuse pudding but somehow it just seemed ott to scrape potato off pie!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 29/10/2017 08:30

I totally agree about the "other peoples houses" thing, we stayed with ILs this week, they already think DH and I have an outlandish diet because we use garlic, spices etc, so I ended up with toast for breakfast (and have to admit I enjoyed every crumb of it).

Mimosa - I'm struggling with tea, I have tried and tried whole milk, sometimes stopped buying skimmed for a few months at a time but whole milk in tea still tastes unpleasant to me. It's also that "perceived pressure from friends" thing again, I often have friends round and when we stopped buying skimmed for a while last year I was conscious that the tea I was giving them tasted horrible (semi-skimmed seems to be ubiquitous in everyone else's house). So I'm still buying skimmed but trying to only use it once a day. This is one area where I don't think my tastebuds are going to change.

I am finding I've lost my taste for pasta and potatoes though so it's not all bad news. I'm not craving sweet stuff either, I enjoy it normally but don't pig out, savoury carbs are definitely my problem area.

SoMuchToBits · 29/10/2017 08:33

Ah, a Cheese & Water evening, prettybird! I can see why you declined the crap wine though. This WOE is making me feel much more that I want small quantities of something good, rather than lots of rubbish (food or drink).

WhoKn0wsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 29/10/2017 08:35

Very thanks. I'm not sure if I like the sound of that, I don't like cinnamon except in lamb dishes.

Scabbersley · 29/10/2017 08:45

Milk is definitely my weak spot. I also love milky coffee. I do drink it with cream at home but occasionally have the odd latte when out.

Scales showing a tiny loss today which is a miracle as was carby twat in middle of week, plus having very unwelcome heavy period Hmm. Not sure it will stay that way by tomorrow.

What's the weigh in etiquette on 3/4 of a pound? If I'm 12.4 and 3/4 what do I put in spreadsheet?

SayrraT · 29/10/2017 08:46

very I make mine with no water, so either on the hob or in the microwave. Just almond milk and cream.

ilovecherries · 29/10/2017 08:48

Went running this morning. Fasting period a bit messed up with the clock change so am going to enjoy my breakfast as soon as it's ready and head off to the shops for gait analysis and to buy me new running shoes (a phrase I never expected to come out of my mouth!)

ilovecherries · 29/10/2017 08:51

I think it's entirely up to you, Scabbersley, although I think I noticed last time that the spreadsheet only accepts one decimal point. (Plus you need to convert to pounds).

prettybird · 29/10/2017 09:02

Whoknows - the whole "low fat" industry has a lot to answer for Angry I am old enough to remember when you could only buy "milk" Wink - and non-homogenised milk at that, so the creamy top was a treat.

When it became possible to buy semi-skimmed milk, I remember it taking a while for me to get used to it, but I persevered because "it was good for me" Hmm I remember trying fully skimmed milk but finding it too watery (so just put extra into my tea to get it "the right colour") so didn't persevere with it.

So if you'd never had reduced-fat milk, you'd probably be ok with the "full fat" version.

prettybird · 29/10/2017 09:08

Somuch - yes, that's very much my attitude. If I'm going to have wine or go off-piste, I'd prefer it to be small amounts of something worth it.

Unfortunately, that also applies to my tablet Wink, as I make the best tablet even if I say so myself according to all my friends. But there again, I can always make more and apart from checking the one small piece for texture, I should give away the rest. Grin

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 29/10/2017 09:08

Finally just dropped out of the 15 and into the 14 stone territory. Only by 1/4 llb and fully aware that I am still very overweight but pleased nonetheless. I don’t weigh religiously every day but was curious after potato gate yesterday. Let’s see if it holds for weigh in tomorrow!

SoMuchToBits · 29/10/2017 09:11

prettybird, do you also remember Gold Top milk? Can you even buy that any more? I also miss the non-homogenised milk, where the top of it was creamy.

SayrraT · 29/10/2017 09:16

Well done totty
