Week 3 - the parting of the way! - Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hope you've seen a good result, making for a very satisfying first two weeks.

Now. Those two weeks were probably quite tough, so if you want to, you can now move on to Bootcamp Light - the rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Essentially this means you can start to skip breakfast (or another meal) if you want to - if you're finding that you're not hungry. (Please don't skip meals for any other reason)

You can also introduce some fruit - mainly berries - in moderation, and also nuts and seeks - again, in moderation - and alcohol - IN MODERATION!

But. It's very often the case that in weeks 3 and 4 your weight loss will slow right down. Sometimes you may see a slight gain, even though you know you've been following Bootcamp to the letter. So you may not want to relax things quite yet.

Entirely up to you.

Remember, though, if you choose to stay on Bootcamp, please remember to make sure you're getting your carbs in the most part from vegetables and fruit - you need that for proper nutrition.

If you like you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

But whatever you choose - good luck and I hope you have a good week. Flowers

Somuchtobits - yes, I do remember gold top milk. Smile

Apparently you can still buy it or rather, it is now being stocked again in Tesco and Sainsbury's as "Jersey Gold Top". Must keep an eye out for it.

StuntNun · 29/10/2017 09:30

I tried making yogurt with gold top Jersey milk but it didn't work as well because the cream formed a thick skin on top of the yogurt.

SoMuchToBits · 29/10/2017 09:38

Ooh, nice to know gold top hasn't entirely vanished! It's making me reminisce about the 1960s before "low fat" became the norm and you could eat things like omelettes cooked in dripping (something my grandmother used to make).

YoLoNovVitMe · 29/10/2017 09:43

I am worried about Christmas. I think I will miss the traditional fayre that I always look forward to. The roast dinner on the day is the easiest part for low carb. Mince pies, Chocolate log, pannetone, truffles, mince pies, Baileys... Oh and did I mention mince pies?

I can live without the quality street, Ferrero rocher, stuffing, roast potatoes and yorkies.

Anyone got a recipe for low carb mince pies?

prettybird · 29/10/2017 09:50

I now keep a "dripping pot" just like my mum did.

Not just for this WoE - but also because dh and I watched Giles Coren do a piece in one of Gordon Ramsay's programmes on "fat bergs in sewers", so we now religiously avoid throwing out fat.

ASDismynormality · 29/10/2017 09:50

yolo. I have decided I can have 2 days off low carb over Christmas- Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and then will be straight back on it. Would that work for you?

SoMuchToBits · 29/10/2017 09:56

I'm trying but failing to think of a way of making low carb mince pies! Grin

prettybird · 29/10/2017 10:01

I'm having two days off (we have our "main" Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve Danish tradition and then have another one on Christmas Day with traditional British Christmas pudding) but cutting way back on the potatoes.

I usually make about 200 mince pies over the Christmas period Shock - I hate shop bought mince pies but I do like my own because I like my pastry Grin

I'll probably have one maybe two over the period - and keep them in the freezer to be heated up for guests as necessary (because I don't like hot mince pies yes I'm weird )

Rshard · 29/10/2017 10:02

Well done for the nsv’s and resistance. I had a small glass of wine last night, I enjoyed it but itdidn’t have the “wow I’ve missed this” I was kind of expecting. So I’m pleased.

I’ve massively cut down the amount of tea I’m drinking, largely replaced with water. I do have a cup first thing tho.

Christmas - I’m planning 2 days off but not going to go mad

Weigh in tomorrow - not sure, I’ll be happy with a pound.

YoLoNovVitMe · 29/10/2017 10:02

Ok so I googled carbsbynumbers.com/cream-cheese-mince-pies-4g-carbs-per-serve/

I might try and make them.

The problem with taking 1 or 2 days off is that I can't trust myself to get back on it. I would binge on sugar and then feel really ill, then my resolve would go. I've managed to get through birthdays and weddings this year and stayed on plan mostly (just one bite of dessert and one alcoholic drink for example). Christmas is just looming and threatening to defeat me. I need to stay strong! Think I need a plan to get through it unscathed. Maybe one tiny thing of what I would normally eat, like one Mince pie or one chocolate truffle and that's it. It will be soooo hard!

Scabbersley · 29/10/2017 10:03

ok so I'll say 12.4 if its 12.4 and a 1/4, but 12.5 if its 12.4 and 3/4

YoLoNovVitMe · 29/10/2017 10:04

I'm bloody craving mince pies now. The bastard spicy fruity devils.

Scabbersley · 29/10/2017 10:05

I've cheated this week croissantgate and found it very easy to get back on it. At Christmas I'll allow myself a few mince pies and some booze. Won't want the cakes. Our trad breakfast is poached eggs on muffins with parma ham and hollandaise, can easily avoid the muffin.

ChinchillaFur · 29/10/2017 10:07

Well done everyone KOKO. It's very hard at other people's houses isn't it Totty! Especially if they have gone to the trouble of making something special. I have a lovely veggie friend and I am dreading her inviting me round for lunch. It's 100% carb central! Pasta/sausage rolls/toasties.

I'm struggling with the carb flu here. Those croissants were SO not worth it Sad. At least my headache is bad enough that I really really don't want to have to go through this again. Have had 2 breakfasts today as I woke up early and it's going to be a long time til lunch. Had FF yog with keto waffles, then 2 hard boiled eggs!

I have bought a small deep fat fryer. After almost 40 years of steaming and grilling it has been a revelation to eat deep fried celeriac chips. Feels very wrong and naughty!

Mimosa1 · 29/10/2017 10:08

Asd and Yolo - I've also been thinking about Xmas this year. I LOVE xmas, the food, the music, the booze, the bad TV, the queen's speech, the carols, the services, the games, the presents, the stockings, all of it. My toddler has been asking me weekly if it's Christmas time yet, so Ive apparently passed it on. SmileI really don't want to undo all my hard work (10kg off in 4m! - felt super slow at times, but I keep reminding myself time is going to pass anyway) but I do want some planned time off from this woe. I read your post, ASD, and thought "only 2 days?!" So I've clearly got some thinking to do. I'm with family for the first past of Xmas then we are going to the in laws. They always go for long walks as they live near a forest so at least I'll get some exercise while I'm there. I'll be happy thrilled if I just stay the same over the Xmas period and don't put on any weight. Will set that as a goal I think.

In fact, there was a discussion a few days ago on the thread where posters suggested setting some short term mini goals, so here are mine for the next few weeks.

  1. get under 170lbs into the 160s ('m very nearly there!)
  2. get into the 12sts - which I work out as being under 76.3kg / 168lbs
  3. we shall see!

Koko all - this thread has made a huge difference to me so thanks all for posting!

prettybird · 29/10/2017 10:09

YoLo - would it help to keep your long term goal in mind? I have a target for next May that I'm steadily working towards. If I go too far off piste over Christmas (I have 2lb lee way) then it will make it more difficult to achieve. And I am going to achieve it. Grin

Gammeldragz · 29/10/2017 10:10

I'm having two days off for Christmas. We have our dinner Xmas eve as I don't want to cook all day on Xmas day. I'm not fussed about roast potatoes or Yorkshire pud or stuffing. I am looking forward to mini stollen and Bailey's tiramisu! Not buying chocolate tubs this year as they aren't that nice, just stuff myself to the point of nausea for no good reason.
I'll have to make sure I don't cook too much carby stuff as the leftovers go in DH's amazing bubble and squeak which we eat for weeks afterwards. I'll try to keep it LC, but I'm not going without - I prefer the bubble and squeak to the main event!

Gammeldragz · 29/10/2017 10:11

Oh, I was 1lb up this morning after eating a whole fathead pizza last night!

GailLondon · 29/10/2017 10:16

Hey everyone! I haven't been posting much but am following boot camp, and have been low carbing since the beginning of September.
I started at 12st0 and have been setting myself lots of mini goals.
For reaching 11st7 I bought myself a new jumper dress, and I've just reached 11st4 so am booking myself a haircut!
Next on my list is the M&S advent calendar!

Rshard · 29/10/2017 10:16

Christmas seems to be a potential stumbling block so why don’t we all agree to ‘meet’ on the koko thread that I think follows the boot camp on the 27th? We can continue to support each other.

I think it’s important to remember that by the time we get to Christmas we’ll have already negotiated tricky situations won’t we - Christmas is just another one. Appreciate it’s extra tricky if you visit lots of people or have hook to stay.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 29/10/2017 10:37

Going back a few pages, but I'm not sure how I feel about the "I'm fat because I'm polite" defence. Hmm

HarlotsWeb · 29/10/2017 10:49

It's not remotely intended as a defence, cleareyesclearheart. It's just something that a lot of us find difficult to handle.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 29/10/2017 11:01

I absolutely understand that Harlots. But it reminded me of a while back when someone ate off-piste as a kindness to a friend who was struggling.

It's wonderful to be a good friend.

It's wonderful to be polite.

It's also wonderful to be at a healthy weight.

It's wonderful to put ourselves first and assert our needs. That can be done politely, too.

It worries me because ultimately I see it as a form of self-sabotage if it's not addressed.

No offence intended with the use of 'defence.'

WhoKn0wsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 29/10/2017 11:07

Prettybird, SoMuch - I never really liked milk growing up when all you could get was full fat, or even worse gold top, which my grandmother used to have. I only really started drinking tea and coffee as an adult, with the advent of skimmed and semi-skimmed. As for the cream on the top, yuck, it makes me feel queasy. We tried organic from the milkman recently but it was not homogenised and the DCs wouldn't touch it until we'd shaken it to oblivion. That experiment didn't last long.

It's weird because I don't generally buy into the low fat thing at all, we've always had streaky bacon, butter, full fat cheese and yogurt no problem. It's just the milk.

As for Christmas, it's the savoury stuff that is my problem. I'm capable of strictly rationing sweet stuff and alcohol, but there is no off button for roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. Or crackers and cheese (cheese on it's own just isn't the same), croissants for breakfast. Hmmm.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 29/10/2017 11:09

Cleareyes - that was me and I have no regrets at all, either the next day or now. I would rather stay fat for a day longer than upset a friend who is already really struggling.
