I love this week, because this is when all the naysayers and doubters realise that this WOE really works!

(... and those who've cheated realise that that really doesn't work Wink)

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your first loss

I missed most of this weekend as I have my very lovely SIL staying with us, prior to her leaving for a 6 month stint in Australia. So I haven't been able to be as glued to the laptop as I am usually.

Glad to hear that some of you have reported in good losses already - I'll look forward to hearing the rest today!

Good luck everyone, for this second week. Hopefully after a good first week you'll know it's worth it Flowers

I meant to ask what phyllium husk is. I keep on seeing it in online recipes.

YoLoNovVitMe · 20/10/2017 15:50

monkey scarlet fever? That sounds plagueish. Hope you and the little monkeys are all better soon.

Thanks yolo - added them to the shopping list.

SoMuchToBits · 20/10/2017 16:20

Thanks for posting, StuntNun - it's really encouraging to hear from someone who has managed to maintain their weight longer term on this WOE. I'm hoping I can do that too, when I have reached the weight I want to be.

I don't ever want to get back into eating a lot of carbs. I've realised that I feel so much better eating low carb, not just from a weight loss point of view, but also for my mental health, joints, etc.

Thanks also, BIWI for all your useful info and encouragement.

All this talk of savoury yoghurt has made me want tzatziki, so I have just been out and bought cucumber!

I've really noticed since low-carbing how much crap most people buy. I was looking at the shopping of the person in front of me in the supermarket, saw the low-fat "healthy" spread, and felt like shouting "No, no, buy some BUTTER !" Blush I managed to restrain myself though. Grin

StuntNun · 20/10/2017 16:33

SoMuch I have noticed a big change in my food preferences over time. Those carby foods you miss at the start become almost irrelevant when you've been doing this for a while. I regularly bake my own bread for my kids and while I enjoy the smell when it comes out of the oven, it doesn't tempt me one bit. But put some nice fatty roast pork in front of me and I start to drool! Whereas before I went low carb I would have been disgusted at the idea of eating the fat from meat. Now I think my body recognises that as its primary energy source so it has become more appetising and palatable.

SoMuchToBits · 20/10/2017 16:38

Yes, Stunt, the savoury carbs are the ones I miss the most - I was never a great person for sweet things.

I have always loved things like pork crackling, cream and butter, but used to feel guilty eating them. Not any longer! Grin

TimeIhadaNameChange · 20/10/2017 17:21

I'm really not good at eating the fat off most meats. I do like fatty bacon if it's crispy but chicken skin, pork belly and the like just don't do it for me, which is a real shame. I want to like it but I don't like the mouthfeel.

Cream and butter on the other hand, I could eat all day!

Gammeldragz · 20/10/2017 17:39

Helped at a school cake sale this afternoon. Wasn't really bothered at not eating any, but I did have a cream and choc pot when I got home as my reward for not eating any (and because I'm in pain). Made it with 50g extra thick cream and one square of 81% dark choc. Nuked for 30s and stirred. 4.3g carbs and it was heavenly.
Cheesey celeriac chips for dinner!

Veryflummoxed · 20/10/2017 17:44

I just like fat. All fat. I like the sweet stuff but prefer savoury so this woe does suit me. I still find it hard to believe that it’s ok though, even when I’m experiencing the benefits. And I expect negative reactions from other people if I mention LCHF.

Lunch was left over curry and yogurt.
Dinner burger, Stilton, lettuce, h m coleslaw (celariac, cabbage and shallot) mustard.

Veryflummoxed · 20/10/2017 17:46

Oh Ragz . I had Cheesey celeriac chips a couple of weeks ago. They were so good I’d forgotten till you mentioned them.

ShastaBeast · 20/10/2017 18:11

I’ve always liked the fat on meats but it was a guilty pleasure I spent years avoiding. DH can’t get over the mental block so I get his too. On the other hand DD aged 7 is now vegetarian so completely different diet to mine. Its gonna be tricky shopping.

Is anyone else spotting? And anyone struggling with rings getting loose - my engagement ring is twisting round. I’m sure I was lighter when we bought it so didn’t expect to have to consider tightening it. It will be interesting to see if I ever get in my wedding dress.

NOMOREoatcakesandcheese · 20/10/2017 18:25

Hello all,
Thanks for the update on C4, Hippa I’m flabbergasted that her PA got knocked off mumsnet. I’m checking in for updates. I do believe that we should be continuing to do what we do so well on here ie support advice encouragement info etc etc

Stuntman thank you for your story and well done on doing so well 💐.

As you might guess from my name, I loved (past tense!) oatcakes, especially with cheese and if I woke in the middle of the night and couldn’t sleep I’d munch on a few oatcake biscuits or if I felt a bit peckish during the day. I started eating them to wean myself off my digestive biscuits addiction thinking they were less carb loaded but surprisingly they aren’t. I don’t eat either now - in fact it’s now my Labrador Buster who gets his morning treat of a digestive biscuit and I don’t.

As far as fat on meat goes I’ve grown up with the low fat message and have for as long as I remember cut the fat or skin off meats. I’ve discovered that I love the cattiness of meat and I think it makes the meal much more tasty and filling.
KOKO everyone I’m off to the pub - with my water bottle under my arm!!

AveAtqueVale · 20/10/2017 18:37

Sooo... I've been doing really well. No cheating (other than adjustments for slightly higher carbs due to breastfeeding), and have lost 9lbs. But have just inhaled a macaroon bar FOR NO REASON. Even thinking 'you'll regret this' while doing it. Wtf is wrong with me?! Can somebody give me a slap??

Also, can I have some genuine advice for next week- I'm about to go away for a week with my mother, aka the biggest diet-saboteur in history (and in fact purchaser of the macaroon bar if memory serves). She is going to nag me all week, insist we stop in every cafe we pass, buy chocolate for DS1 at every opportunity etc etc etc. We'll also be eating at relatives' houses a lot and as I'm already coeliac and they have to cater for that I kind of feel like I need to eat what I'm given. I am planning one cheat - a trip to my favourite ice cream shop in the entire world, last visited fifteen years ago - but would like to stay mostly on plan otherwise. Any tips for broken record type phrases I can employ?

NutButterNutter · 20/10/2017 18:49

Baaaaaaaaalls I just mindlessly ate a piece of DS's birthday cake Slightly stale. Not worth it in ANY WAY WHATSOEVER. Will drinking a tonne of water help? Shit shit shit.

Shasta I am also spotting and did last time I went low carb a couple of years ago. I thought it was my weirdness so it makes me feel better that I'm not alone.

CarbyDeadUn · 20/10/2017 18:52

Evening all. 'Tis I CarbyDiem in Halloween guise.

I have had a teeny weeny little NSV today and I really need to apologise to everyone here for having such a massive downer whingefest at the beginning of the week.
There I was, in work, hands on hips, swaying, while nattering to my colleagues, when lo and behold I thought 'Blimey, my fat bits feel less fat'.

Veryflummoxed · 20/10/2017 19:08

“YAY” big cheers 👂Carby

Veryflummoxed · 20/10/2017 19:09

Is this an ear? Where did that come from?

CarbyDeadUn · 20/10/2017 19:17
Grin
LtheWife · 20/10/2017 19:22

I’ve had a bit of spotting too despite not having a period for 5 years (cerazette). It happened with the 8 week blood sugar diet too but it stopped around 3 weeks after starting.

I weigh daily and went up by a bit this morning but I’m still lighter than I was on Monday so it’s all good. NSV, I can feel more of my ribs and have lost a couple of inches from my underbust measurement. 1 more inch to go and I’ll have the same back size I had 20 years ago! And DH had a parcel delivered today that came with a couple of small bags of Haribo. They went straight in the bin.

Friday night has always been treat night here so craving sweet treats at the moment. Or a glass of red. I’ve got nothing in that’s off plan so there will be no cheating. Doesn’t stop me from opening the fridge every half hour hoping something yummy will have appeared from nowhere though.

ponygirlcurtis · 20/10/2017 19:27

Both DSs had pizza for dinner and I mindlessly put a corner of crust in my mouth that fell off. I then realised and spat it out! Grin Halo

ASDismynormality · 20/10/2017 19:29

I bought a tub of Oppo, I ate the whole tub. First fail since starting this woe- ate it mindlessly straight from the tub while watching tv.

ponygirlcurtis · 20/10/2017 19:34

Oh, and I shall also back up what StuntNun said - I have been eating this way for over 3 years, and I was a massive carb and sugar fiend before. I feel so much better eating like this, I wouldn't want to go back to how I used to eat.

CarbyDeadUn · 20/10/2017 19:41

I'm having a peppermint pukka instead of wine. I'm so knackered i don't even care.i'm on-call on Sunday so that's ok. But i do fear I'll be really fancying a glass tomorrow,

HolgerDanske · 20/10/2017 19:42

Congrats on all losses and NVSs, my thoughts to C4, and KOKO, everyone!

A couple of points, on spotting, I believe I remember something about changes to the body's supply of oestrogen upon embarking on low carb eating, something to do with regulating hormones, but I'm not sure of the details. I think it's fairly common though. Someone else might be able to offer more of an explanation.

On the eating of a certain tub of ice cream...... onward and downwards, you'll have to just get straight back on the wagon! But maybe consider this: you may have eaten it mindlessly, but you won't have bought it mindlessly... why did you buy it when you're on bootcamp? Don't put roadblocks in the way of your own success!

I've had a really rough couple of days. Feel emotionally wrung out and wholly exhausted (mentally). I need snuggles, really, and to feel safe. Some weeks ago I might have retreated into food to eat it away, but tonight I'm going to have a cup of sleep tea, get into bed and read some of a good book. I'm hoping for a positive day tomorrow.

HolgerDanske · 20/10/2017 19:44

Mind you, on the ice cream, I was envisioning a great big tub; if it was only a little tub then it's only a small blip!
