My goodness Smile I don't think we've ever had a second thread in week 2!

Anyway, the last thread is full, so let's carry on the chatting here until the new thread on Monday!

I made yogurt in my Instant Pot yesterday. It's been in the fridge overnight and is now thick enough to stand a spoon up in Grin. It's full fat, cultured for 10 hours. Someone has pinched my kilner jar and won't admit it .

So, I did end up going off piste yesterday (so am expecting BIWI and Jiminy wielding their big sticks) but am pleased I did so as I discovered something out which has been bugging me for years and which I got nothing from the doctor when I asked her about it.

Basically, for the last few years at least, I've felt fuzzy headed most of the time, unable to think straight and feeling really tired. Despite having an office job I'd usually have to spend half of Saturday asleep if I was to have any hope of doing anything on the Sunday. But this had been going on for so long it was normal to me. At the same time I had diarrhoea most mornings, but didn't think it was linked to the above.

Had bloods taken recently to be told everything was fine (wondered if fuzziness was related to low iron, for example) and my bp is fine. Also mentioned my other problem but was told that as it was normal for me not to worry (despite it being a real annoyance every morning).

Anyway, since going LC all this cleared up. Way hay!

Yesterday morning, however, thinking the whole day was going to go down the drain I had a coffee with a syrup in. Half an hour later my head went (still isn't clear) and a few hours later it went to my stomach. Have been stuck in the loo most of this morning.

I, therefore, think that I'm allergic to something in the syrup, possibly sugar, which would make sense as, before deliberately avoiding it I was eating a fair bit every day, like most people. But I am going to go back to the doctor about it, taking with me a list of ingredients in the syrup. Of course, I might be wrong, but it's hugely coincidental if that's what it is.

No idea if it will have buggered up my weight this week, but I did try to counter it by a 10 mile bike ride on Friday. And I'm looking forward to getting rid of whatever is currently annoying my body and going back to feeling what is 'normal' for others.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 04/06/2017 09:46

Morning everyone - what news to wake up to...

B: sausages, egg, mushroom and spinach
L: chicken and avocado salad
D: TBC

YoLoZammo · 04/06/2017 10:01

time that is interesting. I've had brain fog and fatigue for a couple of years but put this down to long term sleep deprivation (due to DC and hectic life/useless DH I don't get more than 4-5 hours a night at best), but a blood test showed I was deficient in folic acid, and short course of high dose made me feel much better. Of course I have self medicated with sugar and caffeine to get thru each day awake. Until bc of course. Last two weeks I have had more energy and been more alert on waking /being woken. I also think I've been more productive at work as I can just think straighter. It's a revelation.

Anyway, get your gp to check for Vit B deficiency, thyroid, iron, and folic acid if they haven't already. All can cause fatigue and brain fog I think. Don't accept anything as "normal for you" if it's really a long term symptom of an undisclosed chronic condition or deficiency.

ilovecherries · 04/06/2017 10:02

namechangr for years (decades) I've had IBS-D, with the charmingly called morning rush being a particularly bothersome feature. Since Day 3 it completely disappeared - I've now had 10 days total remission - I've never, ever had a good spell that lasted that long. And it's not just the low level grumbliness that normally constituted a good day, but a total disappearance of all symptoms. I'm still drinking coffee (so not caffeine related); cheese and cream (so probably not lactose related, although I DID used to have maybe a pint of skimmed milk over the course of a day, so I guess I've reduced my lactose a lot); but I've certainly knocked gluten completely cut of my diet, as well as sucrose, so I'm guessing it's either of those.

L238 · 04/06/2017 10:03

Slept badly and stayed up late watching the awful news unfold, the world is a mad and scary place.

Going to spinning for the first time since starting this WOE. Fingers crossed, it's been a while since I've been to a spin class so it might be a struggle Hmm

ilovecherries · 04/06/2017 10:03

I also used to eat a LOT of fruit, so I guess that's gone as well.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 04/06/2017 10:11

YoLo I'm pretty sure they did a full screen, as I'd never had a blood test before, but I'll ask about Folic Acid (I specifically mentioned the other three). The only thing that came back as slightly odd was my haemoglobin levels (high end of normal) but I think that could be caused by my asthma.

Cherries I've referred to my problem, to myself, as 'morning IBS' for years. Pretty sure it's not the full-blown thing, and I wouldn't like to offend anyone who does have it by using the term, but yep, I do know the 'morning rush'. Poor DP had had to modify his morning routine to give me maximum bathroom access, as I've had to drag him out more than once to get to the loo!

Had never linked the two problems before but the last 24 hours have been a revelation. Am definitely going back to the doctors armed with as much info as I can find and will demand answers!

Spectacularly crashed out yesterday at a wedding - had some cake and four drinks but other wise ate well, pork and loads of salad. I even took a pack of pork crackling just in case. Tracking on mfp was a shock with the macros, 1700 calories but I felt like I hardly ate. I don't regret it (v good friend) but it was a lesson, cake and alcohol are only for special occasions in life! Hopefully eating well 99% of the time will balance it long term. Luckily I've coped well with getting back after slipping. As a penance I'm going to do an extra week on the proper BC instead of light. No raspberries in my yoghurt for another week. I think my raspberry cravings have abated so it doesn't seem so bad now. I may even drop the yoghurt as it makes the carbs rise more than I'd like. I need easy breakfast ideas for my work days.

I have a friend visiting who is understanding so it won't be difficult. No plans over the next week so it will be easier.

Pork belly is defrosting and I've had my creamy coffee. I will weigh in tomorrow.

SometimesMyArmsBendBack · 04/06/2017 10:16

Delicious breakfast this morning. 2 rashers of bacon plus oodles of kale fried in butter and some garlick and ginger paste with curried scrambled eggs.
I find eating so much butter can be a bit cloying so I enjoyed the spicy flavours.

styledilemma · 04/06/2017 10:21

Bacon and eggs for breakfast. It was delicious. I cooked the bacon so the fat crisped up.
mmmmmmmm

Weigh in tomorrow! I'm trying to resist having a sneaky peak of the scales Smile

styledilemma · 04/06/2017 10:23

Who wanted bread recipes?

Captain I think that was me. Thanks!

SometimesMyArmsBendBack · 04/06/2017 10:36

Plus thanks to whoever suggested the fruit tea bag in fizzy water. It's delicious.

Naschkatze · 04/06/2017 11:22

Also tired this morning. Struggled to sleep after seeing the news when I woke up to feed DS last night. Sad

B - yoghurt, cream, raspberries, 6 almonds and some desiccated coconut (is that allowed?!)
L - Salad, eggs, avocado, cheese, olives. Trying to use up bits in the fridge.
D - Chicken breast, garlicy spinach, cauliflower and brocolli cheese. Maybe some roasted courgette.
S (if needed) Brazil nuts, olives.

We are away for a few days from tomorrow, provided DH (police officer) doesn't get called in to work, hence clearing out the fridge! Eating out a lot will hopefully make staying LC easy.

readyforno2 · 04/06/2017 11:23

I'm just catching up here.
Jim, you looked lovely on Friday, hope it went well?

I'll post food and stuff later. Kinda fell off the wagon of Friday, it's our local festival and I ended up drinking.. stuck to gin and slimline so not all bad hopefully

StuntNun · 04/06/2017 11:27

Don't use oil or fat that has already been heated. I think it is a carcinogen Oliver you're thinking of polyunsaturated fats. Saturated fats (butter, lard) are stable because they don't have any double bonds to oxidise. Monounsaturated fats (olive oil) are more stable than polyunsaturated fats because they only have one double bond so they take longer (higher temperature or more reheating) to become oxidised.

On the IBS front mine clears up completely so long as I eat low carb but if I eat wheat then it starts again the next day.

BIWI · 04/06/2017 11:33

Yep, another one who only suffers from IBS when the carbs creep in.

It was one of the first things I noticed when I started doing low carb, which was originally for weight loss, and it's one of the key things that reminds me why it's such a good WOE whenever I slip off piste!

OP posts:
ilovecherries · 04/06/2017 11:38

The other thing that has cleared up completely and rapidly is reflux. Can't believe Ive lost enough weight yet for that to have impacted it, so presumably it must be diet - it feels counterintuitive, because I worried high fat would make it worse. It's perhaps as simple as the quantity (i.e. Actual volume, not calories) of food I'm eating has probably halved, do my stomach isn't putting on so much upwards pressure.

CaptainBraandPants · 04/06/2017 11:44

Yep, another one with (fairly mild) IBS which improves with this woe. Anyone noticed their acne getting better yet? Takes 2-3 weeks, but mine then clears up. When I strayed from the path in-between bootcamps, my skin broke out and it's only now that it's clearing up again.
I really should learn that this woe is beneficial in more ways than weight loss.

style sorry, i couldn't remember. This thread is so fast moving, it's difficult to keep up. I would really recommend the flax bread, but in small quantities. If anyone is constipated, it will certainly help. Grin

cathyandclare · 04/06/2017 12:11

Urghhh, the curry has knocked me out of ketosis. I think the cauliflower side dish must have had something in it, although it didn't taste sweet at all. Feel bloated and have gained 3lb. Will go hardcore to get back, very frustrating, I was all virtuous avoiding all the rice/nans/ etc

May weigh in on Tuesday...

Sunborn · 04/06/2017 12:12

Went a bit off piste yesterday and had a few glasses of prosecco - but did stay away from the bread and the sweets, so overall not too disappointed in myself.

I'm hopefully going to do a bit of batch cooking today. I'm single (no children) so it's hard to cook a different meal every night without being some sort of ingredient planning wizard.

Does anyone have any recommendations for recipes that freeze well?

C4pinkwheels · 04/06/2017 12:17

WTF is going on - I have lost 2 1/2 inches from the top of my legs and someone's stolen my tits, I could fit a kitten inside each of my 38DD cups when I put my bra on this morning. If I post a picture would it be diet porn?

BIWI thank you for the answer, I'm going to be frustrated with a really slow weight loss but my health has to come first.

It's really annoying that I have a respiratory consultant who is constantly nagging me to exercise more and lose weight ( I honestly think he forgets that I only have one fully functioning limb and can't walk) a surgeon who is nagging me to take it easy and remember I've had major spinal surgery and I need to rest and the voice in my head that says stop being a lazy cow and do stuff. I've never been a sit and watch TV person and I find myself bored stupid 90% of the time.

DS's boss is mortified that I couldn't eat at the pub yesterday and has asked me to go and show her exactly what needs to change to make the BBQ area accessible and free 3 course dinner in the restaurant for me DH, DS, DGC, DDIL whenever we want.

Food

B: yogurt, five blueberries, lemon zest
L: ham & salad
D: roast beef with cauliflower mash & green veg

ragz134 · 04/06/2017 12:18

Just realised I am in a new stone bracket! I weigh in pounds so don't often keep track, but I am 12 stone 13lbs today! I was just over 15 stone at the beginning of the year...
Hoping tomorrow's weight is as low as today.

styledilemma · 04/06/2017 12:23

Urghhh, the curry has knocked me out of ketosis.

Cathy how do you know it's knocked you out of ketosis? Do you use the strips?
I don't seem to have bad breath this week so I'm wondering if I'm still in ketosis? Confused

I haven't cheated yet so I'm assuming it's (Ketosis) is happening to me?

styledilemma · 04/06/2017 12:25

Well done C4 I bet you're pleased that you are seeing progress with the weight loss.
