My goodness Smile I don't think we've ever had a second thread in week 2!

Anyway, the last thread is full, so let's carry on the chatting here until the new thread on Monday!

Yolo, yes, you're right, the mousakka could be spun loads of ways. If tomatoes were more low carb friendly, it would up the possibilities a lot as well, but I need to find a substitute. It's one thing eating one tomato at breakfast, and another using pounds of them to make a passata. Not quite sure what I'll do with the big tomato glut that I have at the end of every summer. Usually make a huge vat of pasta sauce for freezing for over the winter, but that won't be happening this year. Was wondering today if rather than tomatoes if it would be possible to do something that tasted a bit Italian by dousing courgettes in garlic butter and layering it with mince and pancetta with maybe a chimicurri type layer made with Italian herbs rather than parsley and coriander. Clearly I think about food far too bloody much!

ilovecherries · 03/06/2017 22:23

And since pesto is off the menu, I'm also going to have to deal with the forest of Basil that is taking over my teeny kitchen.

SayrraT · 03/06/2017 22:39

ilove you could still make passata but just not use it too regularly. Same for pesto once we are in bclite.

prettybird · 03/06/2017 22:42

Ilovecherries: dh and I used to love a simple supper of pasta, melted butter and torn basil. Could you do something similar with courgette ribbons which you have lightly sautéed also in butter?

thenightsky · 03/06/2017 22:44

Good day today, despite scales saying I was 2lb up for some mad reason.

B - tablespoon of Total FF.
L - 1/4 of fat head pizza.
D - Lemon butter chicken from the recipe thread, with broccoli and cauli rice.

Snacks - none.

Knocked a min off my parkrun time this morning too.

YoLoZammo · 03/06/2017 23:46

ilovecherries how about slicing one tomato thinly and using that as part of the layers. Would add moisture and some flavour but not as concentrated as passata or puree. Since the dish serves four then that's a quarter of a tomato. I'd probably add more than one in that basis if I were creating an Italian type version.

YoLoZammo · 03/06/2017 23:56

Not bc related but there is an incident developing in South London. Possibly terrorist. Police have shot someone. Oh dear Sad

Yorkshirebornandbred · 04/06/2017 01:32

Got up very late today Grin and wasn't really hungry, so just had a creamy coffee and a little egg mayonnaise.

Late lunch was tuna mayonnaise with celery.

Dinner was chilli made with mince, leeks, mushrooms, tomato puree. It was lovely!

Snacks were pork scratchings, creamy coffee and celery with mayonnaise.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 04/06/2017 06:33

Hi everyone, been a bit MIA recently, due to decorating / half term / life! Anyway, just had to tell you that I'm running a half marathon today, fuelled by eggs & chorizo! I wonder how it will compare to my previous half, which was fuelled by toast & peanut butter. My running has got much better since being LCHF - knocked a minute off my average mile times. We'll see what happens, eep!

NigellasGuest · 04/06/2017 06:51

Morning - very tired as couldn't sleep listening to the radio about the incidents in London - totally shocked

The animal pictures have made me feel a bit better.... bassets - I never knew much about them! Interesting to read about them Jimminy - I have a cocker spaniel and knew nothing about adorable bassetts!!
C4 your bunny sleeping on the kitchen floor is adorable! I don't think a house bunny would work with my cocker but would love one ! And Sayrra! Amazing picture! I'm a horse lover too and volunteer at riding for the disabled. Have fantasised about having my own horses since i was 7 years old!
Thanks for the pictures all of you - I don't know you in RL but it's still different to seeing random pics on the internet and weirdly has helped me somehow !!

NigellasGuest · 04/06/2017 06:54

And BIWI don't wave your stick in my direction- i didn't see Doris yesterday and won't be Dorissing for a couple of weeks so yesterday was a perfect LC day Star

Cookingongas · 04/06/2017 07:16

Morning all. Horrifying news to wake to Sad

I'm koko today, but will be challenged as I'm doing a boot sale and my table is stationed opposite the burger van Angry
I've woken very hungry- does anyone else find that if they eat later in the evenings , they wake hungrier in the morning?

Are chopped tomatoes not okay then? The lidls ones I use are 3G per 100g so staying in the under 3G rule- plus if you use one can for four it's not the full 12g of the tin?

CaptainBraandPants · 04/06/2017 07:33

I'm ignoring the bad news hoping it all goes away.

hippa good luck with the half marathon, very impressed. I want to do one before I am 50, so I've got less than 3 years, but haven't got my arse into gear yet.
Love the pictures - Jiminny, dogs, horse and bunny. Very cheering. I 'd post one of my fluffball, but the stairgate has broken, so she has escaped upstairs.

Who wanted bread recipes? Here is the flax bread recipe I don't like cloud bread - I find it far too eggy, but you can google it. Sometimes called oopsie bread, too.

Was busy at work yesterday, so didn't have lunch until 2.30pm. In all, I had:
B: 2x creamy coffee
L: tuna mayo salad
D: 2 and a half sausages with courgette, spring greens and asparagus all cooked in butter.
S: 1 square of 90% chocolate (I've been LCing for a while)

I really, really wanted to weigh myself yesterday, but I didn't. I think I will try and hold off until week 5.

CaptainBraandPants · 04/06/2017 07:34

Cooking those chopped tomatoes are fine, just don't have too many of them. Also, you can always have a burger and leave the bun. Enjoy your day.

RubyGoat · 04/06/2017 07:42

Quick question about oil - is it literally only olive or coconut oil we are allowed on BC? I am planning to make mayonnaise (olive oil will be quite strong tasting).

Also - I've discovered Longley Farm double cream. It's absolutely heavenly. Possibly had a little too much yesterday, but at least it was in food / coffee. Mostly... Blush

I need to add more fats to food (just preferably not masses of cream). I'm still struggling with portion sizes, quite small. I absolutely can't stand meat fat unless it's crispy, makes me feel really nauseous. Don't want to reduce my veg intake too much or it will set off my IBS.

I need basic ideas for breakfast, if anyone can help? Must be able to make / prep it the previous evening. Also must be portable to take to work. I work shifts, & some weeks I start early. I can't eat before I leave as no time & I walk a fair distance to work, it's horrible walking far & fast on a full stomach. I have a Nutri Ninja so can do a smoothie if they're a legitimate option. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, FWIW, but don't fancy a purely vegetable smoothie either...!

Is it normal to feel really thirsty at first?

StuntNun · 04/06/2017 07:56

Lego the light and mild type of olive oil can be used for making mayo. Apart from coconut oil and olive oil you can use avocado oil, nut oils, cold-pressed rapeseed oil and any solid fat: butter, lard, beef dripping, duck fat or goose fat. If you have fat left over in the pan after frying something then you can pour it into a jar for later use. You haven't lived until you've had steak fried in bacon fat.

Billionnairewannabe · 04/06/2017 08:13

Haven't had chance to post much this week but still here on track. Posting now to distract me from awful news. 😢

Sometimesmyarmsbend - welcome! My son is T1D so I do this to try and help him see how low carb works. He's enjoyed a few LC meals with me this week but he loves his carbs (teen). Please keep an eye on ketones though and drink water! Wink.

My LCHF Diet going well and not feeling hungry. However I am feeling very tired, irritable and stressy? Snapping at kids etc (more than usual!) and I read this can be part of carb flu? I am going to try salt in my water for breakfast as apparently that can help. I'm not feeling the renewed energy etc, quite lethargic in fact so let's see what added salt does. Anyone else (or am I just a moody b!)? Grin

boldlygoingsomewhere · 04/06/2017 08:16

Morning,

Had a good day yesterday - survived a trip to a National Trust cafe by avoiding the cake and just having a portion of clotted cream! It was lovely but quite sickly.

Enjoying the hound, bunny and horse pics- I have serious animal envy. Would love to have a dog again.

MOIST · 04/06/2017 08:16

I am considering meat. I'm not really a proper veggie, more by accident than anything ethical. I'm just not keen on most meat.
However I think I'm eating far too much cheese. Which is great as I love cheese and my brain thinks there's no such thing as too much but I ate a whole block of halloumi last night.

So. Meat.

Meaty things I actually quite like ....
Chicken
Bacon
Salami
Chorizo
Sausage (ish.)
Ham (ish)

Can I eat those? I assume if no carbs shit added and cooked with fat?

Oliversmumsarmy · 04/06/2017 09:03

Don't use oil or fat that has already been heated. I think it is a carcinogen

HemanOrSheRa · 04/06/2017 09:09

Yes you can eat all of those MOIST. I believe we are supposed to be careful of the more processed meats. Check the carb content of sausages as they can be quite carby.

I think if you can manage it, some meat dishes would be good. You could have so much more variety, particularly when you are on nights.

BIWI · 04/06/2017 09:12

@MOIST just beware that:

Bacon
Salami
Chorizo
Sausage (ish.)
Ham (ish)

Are all processed meats, and whilst very lovely indeed, should be enjoyed occasionally rather than at every meal!

@LegoCaltrops if you're constantly thirsty, despite drinking plenty of water, that's apparently a sign that you aren't getting enough salt

@C4pinkwheels

Question for you: given that I had no choice but to cheat in week one because of extreme low bp and mothers funeral, should I do boot camp for an extra week before going onto lite?

I worry about your health and Bootcamp, so I think it would be a good idea for you to move to Bootcamp Light anyway!

C4 your bunny is adorable, they really are lovely pets.

NigellasGuest. My ds rides with the RDA every week, it's a wonderful charity so thank you for volunteering.

Feeling really sick at the news from London. The frequency of the attacks is really disturbing.

BIWI · 04/06/2017 09:17

Are you eating enough?

And particularly, are you eating enough fat?

Things to eat that help with carb flu are salmon, avocado, spinach and full fat natural yoghurt.

But you could also just be a moody b..... Grin
