Thanks Style, have just put a batch in the freezer. I have a vanilla grinder so will see how that works. Also added a bit of cinnamon and the dregs of.a bottle of natural vanilla extract (didn't have sugar in the ingredients). Tempted to use the fast freeze function on the freezer so I can have one after tea.

Day two of extended family holiday nearly over and I've managed to stick to it totally APART from one gin and slimline tonic. I regretted it as soon as i had it but an hoping it won't kick me out of ketosis, I've been very strict today with food and esten
B: spinach and goats cheese omelette cooked in butter
L: scrambled egg, streaky bacon, mushrooms sautéed in butter, one grilled tomato with a drizzle of olive oil.
Dinner will be a BBQ so easy to stick to meat, green salad and olive oil dressing.

Ineedagoodusername · 28/05/2017 16:39

Sorry where am I meant to be looking?

ilovecherries · 28/05/2017 16:57

londonnanny, thanks so much for sharing your experience. I've certainly felt much better the last few days with just a tiny increase in carbs, plus a mug of bullion each day. My endo doesn't believe in exhausted adrenals so I won't get much help there. Like my GP, he is into a 70% calories from carbs diet, with very low fat. Interestingly, I had Hashimotos when I was younger, then developed an unrelated tumour on my thyroid, resulting in me parting company with it. I was very upset at the thought of having zero thyroid function of my own, but in fact it's been MUCH easier to manage without it, when I know I'm totally reliant on supplementation. I can't remember the last time Ive needed an adjustment, whereas before I felt I was always over or under correcting.

On the week one boot camp thread Biwi links to the spreadsheet of fabulousness. It's got our weights bit on different tabs there's all the rules to follow :)
Welcome!!!!

thenightsky · 28/05/2017 17:01

I know I've asked this previously, but the last thread whizzed up to full so fast I probably missed the answer, but, how do you make Exploded Babybels? Don't you get burned by molton cheese when you unzip them?

BIWI · 28/05/2017 17:07

cabbage67 - and anyone else in the same situation

It's terribly difficult when you've been invited to dinner, and someone has put a lot of effort into cooking for you.

However, if they are your friend, then surely they will want to provide something for you that's suitable? If you have an allergy, or diabetes, or you are a vegetarian then wouldn't they want to accommodate you?

If you're going to dinner, it's not unreasonable to say 'by the way, I need to tell you that I can't eat [xxx]. No need to explain why if you don't want to - although saying you're on a diet isn't a daft thing to say!

However, in my experience, you do need to be specific about what you can't eat - not many people really understand low carbing.

You have a right to have the food that's good for you and not to have to eat food that's not good.

BIWI · 28/05/2017 17:11

@ineedagoodusername

Welcome! If you go to the overall Bootcamp topic, you'll find our recipe thread, which is stickied at the top of the topic. You should also find our first week thread which has a link to the spreadsheet, and there's loads of information there (look at the tabs at the bottom).

Very good luck, and glad to see that you've (at least considered!) joining us Flowers

explodingkittens · 28/05/2017 17:11

You take them out of the wax before you melt them thenightsky Grin

Lovely BBQ today (finished just before the deluge started!) - sausages, chicken, halloumi, a salad of watercress and cucumber, olives, guacamole and plenty of mayo. Avoided the puddings and just drank fizzy water with lots of lime.

Dinner will be leftover chicken from Friday night.

Am loving the almond milk and think I might buy myself some chai tea bags for a chai latte; I really miss them!

explodingkittens · 28/05/2017 17:17

On a slight tangent, it depresses me to hear so many people having trouble with HCPs who are still fixated on high-carb, low-fat WOEs, despite the 40+ years of evidence in front of our eyes that all they do is make us fatter and sicker.

I wish HCPs would keep themselves updated. The evidence base around low-carb is really significant now, but the people who really could make a difference to our health are still wedded to outdated and ineffective ideas. I know some are more enlightened, but there is still a long way to go.

Evening all!

I know that tomorrow is our first weigh-in since the start, and as I'm away - and not bound to wake up by the alarm clock Grin- I'll probably try and start the new thread this evening.

However, I only have my iPad, so I can't guarantee it will work ... Confused

ilovecherries · 28/05/2017 17:43

You're right there, kittens. I have a LOT to be grateful to the NHS for, at one point after my accident I thought I'd never walk without crutches again. My surgeons and physios were wonderful. But when it comes to basic nutrition help, they are generally sadly lacking. And because of there intransigent position, it actually stops you accessing help with things like basic monitoring. I spent two years struggling on a 10% fat diet, and I could see them getting more and more critical of me, as if I had some sort of moral failing for not losing weight on it.

MOIST · 28/05/2017 17:43

Afternoon all. Lunchbox packed for another night shift.
Salad with hb egg and cheese
Veggies with tofu
Yogurt with cream.

Nights are usually a carb fest but last night was mangable. Just ate on the go when peckish.

Hope I get a bloody break tonight. I'm knackered.

ilovecherries · 28/05/2017 17:44

Their, not there. Argh.

JiminnyCricket · 28/05/2017 17:59

Well today was nearly a disaster.

Out all day at a convention with DP and thought there would be food there, but it was literally all pastries and sandwiches Sad

Didn't touch any of that and DP didnt either in solidarity Grin

Unfortunately though, this meant we were both starving on the way home and stopped at a service station and had KFC Blush

I decided to use this as a bit of a training task, so didn't track my food before I ordered it like I normally would and decided to just eat until I felt satisfied. We ordered a sharing box between us and I ate 5 hot wings and 2 mini fillets. I felt awfully guilty afterwards but I DID stop when I felt full and didn't have any chips or sauces or anything.

When I tracked it afterwards the meal cake to 27g carb and 617 calories. I had coconut coffee for breakfast and no lunch, and won't eat again today so in total I'm only 2g over my carb target for the day, happy days!

Not good that I gave in to a craving or didn't manage my hunger properly by planning ahead, but at least I made ok choices and managed my in take by satisfaction rather than greed. Not great, but not a wrote off either Grin

BIWI · 28/05/2017 18:02

Well done Jiminy!

KFC is my saviour when at a service station (which is quite a lot, as I travel for work, but also to get home to family).

You make the choices you have to make, and they're not always as bad as you'd think!

CodLiverOil556 · 28/05/2017 18:08

Question for you...does Stevia count as artificial sweetener? I have some in the cupboard and wondered Confused

Yorkshirebornandbred · 28/05/2017 18:12

I think I've stuck to this woe fairly well .. apart from too much cheese and cream at the beginning and not drinking enough water. I'm trying to increase my water intake and usually manage 2 l but will try to increase to 3 l.

I don't feel like I've lost weight though, although I feel less bloated and ok. I'm dreading the weigh in ... on the one hand I want to know if I've lost weight, on the other hand if I haven't I know I'll become demotivated Sad I'll see how I feel in the morning and then decide whether to weigh myself.

My only slip ups were the sugar free chewing gum. I'm also struggling to believe that the almond milk iced coffee is allowed ... seems too nice to be low carb? Are we sure it's ok BIWI? I'm using soya milk I had but it has 0.5g carbs ... only adding decaf espresso and ice ... should be ok?

I feel I'm still eating a lot to stop myself being hungry ... I've tried to cut down on snacks but am peckish at bedtime so have a piece of cold bacon or low carb sausage or salami.

GetReady · 28/05/2017 18:16

Coffee and cream almond milk ice lolly!

Low carb bootcamp week one spillover thread
Bibs2014 · 28/05/2017 18:17

Is coconut milk allowed?

glenthebattleostrich · 28/05/2017 18:25

Glad you are feeling better Ilove
Jim, I find people on SW are the worst, its almost like they've joined a cult. Well done on how you handled it, I wasn't that polite to MIL when she questioned LC compared to SW!
Kermmit, I love that dress, well done :)

Feeling brilliant today, I can't believe how much energy I have with this diet and waking up minus the Sunday hangover is quite a treat!!! I'm bouncing out of bed and going running on a morning and feeling brilliant doing it.

Food today:

b: tea with cream and coconut oil, small bowl of ff greek yogurt
l: ham, egg muffin, salad bits
t: belly pork, chicken marinated in olive oil and paprika griddled and huge salad.

The weather is so gorgeous here we have been out walking loads and generally being outdoors and so active.

glenthebattleostrich · 28/05/2017 18:26

Oh and don't forget to take measurements everyone. Sometimes the scales don't move but you are loosing inches

BIWI · 28/05/2017 18:26

@Yorkshirebornandbred if that's the only 'slip up' then you will be fine!!! Grin

But you really do have to drink the water ...

If you're hungry at bedtime, then it's your body's way of telling you that you haven't been eating enough! (Or, that snacking is a habit?)

Don't bottle out of weighing tomorrow - it's important!

MrsDurrell · 28/05/2017 18:33

Ok, I'm in because I look portly and middle-aged. I'm 5' 5 and 11 stone 4 so at least a stone has to go!
Today's food has been:
B 2 egg omelette with fried mushrooms and spinach
L steak fried in butter, rocket, 2 cherry tomatoes and samphire with olive oil and lemon
D thai green curry made with curry paste, aubergine, courgette, prawns and cauliflower rice
Does that sound ok?
