Evening all!

I'm starting this thread now as I have to leave early for work tomorrow. and I know how keen you'll all be to weigh-in first thing, so won't want to wait until I can get round to getting it up and running Grin

Here's the link to the lovely shiny new Spreadsheet of Fabulousness ]] for which many thanks, SayrraT.

Your name should be on it, but if it isn't, just add it at the bottom. Don't try and re-alphabetise the list - Sayrra or Wombattoo will do that later.

And don't touch the blue cells!!!

Loving the posts about feeling full for longer, it was my first bit of proof that low fat diets weren't helping me lose weight Grin

NamelessEnsign · 23/05/2017 12:48

PS jiminy I like your BC defiance story - I bet you nearly fell off the scales that first week!

JiminnyCricket · 23/05/2017 12:55

GetReady · 23/05/2017 12:56

For those with really bad shakes or carb flu...i got into this woe via the paleo diet where you eat slightly higher carb. The very first week i transitioned i kept some cooked sweet potato in the fridge. Every mealtime i'd cut off the equivalent of a few bites. It just eased my symptoms a little. I'm not saying everyone should do it but it really helped my transition. The second day of the diet, i remember i lay on the kitchen floor to eat breakfast because I'd have passed out otherwise Grin

So if you're seriously struggling or like me have a chronic illness, it's an option. I still occasionally eat maybe 10-20g of sweet potato with meals simply because I think they're very good for you. I have a lot of bowel cancer in my family and read that populations that eat them have very low rates of bowel cancer. I've also been reading lots about your gut microbiome and how lots of fibre is crucial for it. So that's obviously not strict bootcamp but I only eat little bits here and there and still lose weight doing so.

It took me a long time to get my head around eating fat. I can only say that eating fat has resulted in amazing soft, spot-free skin. I sleep better. I'm in less pain. I get far fewer coughs and colds. My blood sugar is good, my blood pressure, my weight is going down. Fat really is very good for you. I wouldn't stop eating it for anything.

PlymouthMaid1 · 23/05/2017 13:03

Thanks for the carby OH tips Jiminy. He actually showed a bit of interest last night when i was telling him the basics and asking him not to put flour in sauces for me etc.

last night I had haddock fillets cooked in some cream and cheese to make a sauce and broccoli and mushrooms. Not been hungry between really which is good but only managed 3 glasses of water as i realised the work water tasted quite horrid - will take some ice bags in and some lemon that will help.

Feeling pious as dodged the gorgeous looking plate of chocolate brownies in today's work meeting.

HemanOrSheRa · 23/05/2017 13:09

I'm running an hour late in work. I thought it was 12 pm not 1pm Blush. I am usually almost in tears with hunger by 11.30 and trying to hang out until 12pm until I can eat. I was merrily gassing away with my clients and then I gasped at the time.

AdalindSchade · 23/05/2017 13:11

My calorie counting breakfast was a low fat yoghurt which would leave me hungry by 10.30am. Then I would have a calorie counted pack of light crisps which wouldn't actually stop me being hungry.
Lunch would be a low fat soup or salad depending on the season, leaving me hungry again by 3. Then I'd have a snack sized chocolate bar and be starving by 6 and unable to wait for a proper dinner. It works for weight loss but it's shit and makes you obsessed.
This way is so much better.

thenightsky · 23/05/2017 13:13

Oh dear. Passing M&S this morning, I swerved in as I suddenly remembered 'chorizo crisps'. There was one pack left (sold out of the salami ones sadly).

OMG... I think I'm going to have to bulk buy them. I ate the whole box in about 5 mins!

ShastaBeast · 23/05/2017 13:14

I've not had any withdrawal symptoms but I have started weeing loads this past few days. Is this part of the diet? I'm no drinking much more either. I thought I was coming down with a uti but it's not just the urge I do need to go.

PissPotPourri · 23/05/2017 13:16

Hi all! I'm maintaining now, although a couple more pounds lost here or there would not be a disaster. So therefore not going to add my weight to the spreadsheet.
I have had one big NSV this week though, and that was a friend of my husband seeking me out to say that he and his wife had been so inspired by my noticeable dramatic weight loss that they too are staying a LCHF woe. I felt great!

styledilemma · 23/05/2017 13:17

I've just finished reading through the MN webchat with Dr John Briffa

It's really interesting.

NamelessEnsign · 23/05/2017 13:18

Shasta yes I think so - as far breaks down some of it is coverted into water, which makes you pee more.

Cherrypi · 23/05/2017 13:18

Note to self one babybel and a creamy coffee is not enough for breakfast. Went a bit funny in Sainsbury's. Omelette tomorrow I think.

AvaCrowder2 · 23/05/2017 13:18

Wombattoo I can't add my starting weight to the spreadsheet, as I'm away from home, would you enter it for me please?

It's 126lb.

Thanks.

I've really enjoyed reading the thread, lots of lovely sounding food ideas and inspiring stories. Thank you everybody.

ScoobyDoosTinklyLaugh · 23/05/2017 13:29

Afternoon all. I feel quite upset today after whats happened in Manchester and I'm a bit teary.

B: 3 eggs scrambled with butter

Had a naughty tea with milk at playgroup - I've switched to almond the rest of the time, which has been surprisingly painless.

L: I was a bit disorganised and was supposed to have made broccoli and stilton soup last night and I was starving when I got in so I had a roast chicken salad while I made the soup and then had a bowl of soup as it was too delicious to leave. Feel like I've eaten too much though and feel a bit disappointed in myself.

D: BELLY PORK! Can't wait. Going to either have salad or cabbage/broccoli with it - depends what I fancy.

AdalindSchade · 23/05/2017 13:39

shasta are you drinking enough? You will get ill if you don't drink enough

styledilemma · 23/05/2017 13:45

I've not had any withdrawal symptoms but I have started weeing loads this past few days. Is this part of the diet? I'm no drinking much more either. I thought I was coming down with a uti but it's not just the urge I do need to go.

I know!
I've almost wet myself a few times Blush
and had to rush to the loo.
Ah well. It proves I'm having enough water.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 23/05/2017 13:51

I know my GP would be highly critical of this,

ilovecherries I've run this way of eating past three different doctors (two GPs and my cardiologist). The response has always been positive and all have given their blessing.

Done correctly, there are many benefits generally, but there seems to be growing evidence that cholesterol andas someone mentionedblood pressure are positively affected.

What they've all hated, unsurprisingly, was any meal replacement type of dieting for quick weight loss. It's not real food after all.

ShastaBeast · 23/05/2017 13:53

Drinking a fair amount, more than enough to not become ill but not forcing myself to drink either. Tending to drink hot water as the office is cold.

Naschkatze · 23/05/2017 13:54

I too feel much fuller than usual. Since starting breastfeeding I have been so hungry and have eaten far too much cake! Hence not losing the pregnancy weight!

Today, I probably could have skipped lunch but made sure I had something (celery, cream cheese and ham).

I am a bit concerned by Nutracheck telling me I've gone way over the daily allowance for saturated fat...
I'm only logging it to check I'm eating enough calories for breastfeeding.

StuntNun · 23/05/2017 14:00

Cherries another factor going for this way of eating is how you feel. In my experience I don't hear people on calorie controlled diets exclaiming that their skin is clearer or they have more energy or their IBS has cleared up or their arthritis pain has gone away or they no longer have PMT or they're sleeping better or their teeth are cleaner.

Jiminny it is strange that Keys's theory got such a strong following. There was supposed to be a clinical trials but it ended up too expensive. The biggest crime was his systematic attacks on Yudkin. If you read Yudkin's book Pure, White and Deadly he was right about an awful lot of things, even the implication of sugar playing a role in dementia. If people had listened to Yudkin instead of Keys there would be no obesity epidemic.

DustMotes have you looked into resistant starch for gut health? It's something the Primal crowd tend to recommend.

Shasta, weeing more than usual can mean a weight loss whoosh is on the way.

JiminnyCricket · 23/05/2017 14:02

Naschkatze here's 5 studies explaiing why saturated fat isn't bad for you, and actually is essential!

The diet heart hypothesis (the one that tells you that sat fat is bad) has been completely de-bunked over the last 20 years :)

ASDismynormality
I was recently sent to a weightloss support group by the NHS.
There were 8 of us there. 7 were Mothers of kids with some sort of SN.
(not an excuse, but not a random correlation either, methinks).

JIminnyCricket
They are luffly. Will get ds to help me put pic of ours on later Blush
