Week 3 - Spring Low Carb Bootcamp - To B or to BC, that is the question!

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

I see from the last thread that some of you have already weighed in - well done to those who've lost and commiserations with those of you who haven't.

We now enter week 3, which is notorious (along with week 4) for being a bit of a bugger of a week Grin

At this point, you'll see weight loss slow, stop or even reverse. It's a very, very common thing. So if this happens to you, don't panic - it's perfectly normal. Your body is adjusting, and weight loss will resume again, assuming that you keep on keeping on.

You can now choose whether or not you want to move on to Bootcamp Light, which allows a bit of fruit, some nuts/seeds and alcohol - all in moderation of course!

If you prefer, and if it's suiting you, you can stay on Bootcamp - or you could do a mix of both. So Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Up to you.

Good luck whichever approach you take

Feeling pants. Just glad I had the day off work.
Not had much of an appetite, but bought sirloin steak as a treat for tonight. Will have with courgetti, roasted veg and peppercorn sauce.
Might have a medicinal glass of wine.

Veryflummoxed · 24/02/2017 18:34

I was really hungry and in need of breakfast this morning but we didn't have much to hand and I was in a hurry. I ended up with a bowl of buttered left over sprouts. I did enjoy them though.
Lunch was two fried eggs on leaves followed by a portion of Liddl Greek style yogurt full fat.

Dinner was steak, dressed leaves, mushrooms, tomatoes and avocado chips.

That lunch looked really good hesdead. I'd have struggled to leave it even if I'd been full. I'm trying to change my "clear the plate" mentality though.

wombattoo · 24/02/2017 18:51

hesdead That is a fantastic result. Well done you.
I haven't been very good this bc. Only a week to my holiday and instead of thinking 'get on with it' I am thinking 'well there's no point cos I will gain whilst away'. I know better and am kicking myself up the butt.

Patapouf · 24/02/2017 19:09

What are avocado chips??

I think I'll be having that vanilla/peanut butter yoghurt tomorrow, it sounds amazing. Might even freeze some into ice lollies..

L: butter fried chorizo and halloumi/courgette muffins
D: pancetta, mushroom and cheddar 'carbonara' with courgetti. I think all the double cream has made me feel a bit sick though.

Patapouf · 24/02/2017 19:18

I've just had a look at the spreadsheet because I forgot to add my weight on Monday. My whinging about not losing any weight was unjustified, I actually lost 1lb 😂😂

I'm hoping for the same again this week.

Visaste · 24/02/2017 19:31

So sorry callmesausage Flowers

I have the Tom Kerridge book. Haven't tried anything yet but was going to make the moussaka tomorrow callme so really pleased to hear it's good. Also love the sound of the tiramisu...

Well done for avoiding a fuck it binge, BIWI. I did really well yesterday and then stupidly blew it by eating some oreos :(

Back on it today though - B - coffee and cream x2; L - hb eggs and bacon; D - vietnamese beef lettuce wraps.

Visaste · 24/02/2017 19:32

That dinner looks lush, very

Hesdeadjim · 24/02/2017 19:35

May or may not have just eaten an entire tray of LCHF cauliflower cheese Blush DO will have to sort out his own dinner!

BursarsFrogs · 24/02/2017 19:59

Welp, as tasty as boiled up cauliflower sounded, I caved in with the takeaway - but at least only a large chicken kebab with loads of salad, garlic mayo, and no pita.

Ronniesleaddress · 24/02/2017 20:24

Been feeling sick all day I think because it's a huge adjustment for me..

B - BPC
L - 4 rashers of streaky bacon, punnet of mushrooms and a fried egg
D - Beef brisket, guac, salad, coleslaw, sour cream, chilli butter prawns
I'm looking at it but am still full from earlier!

Really enjoying the veg side of it, and my skin is glowing

Thanks BIWI I read up a bit after I posted and saw that info - totally makes sense! So the sugar situation is under control...I've given it up in coffee. I was probably having 10 tsp a day in coffee although I don't have a sweet tooth at all with food. My youngest has taken a lot of interest in my diet and is trying the coconut nectar sugar instead of using sugar...so result!

Think on my days off I'm going to try out a few recipes....and also start exercising. Been counting my steps and def need to up them despite being on my feet at work all day. So apart from feeling sick I am doing alright today and feeling confident I can keep it up

KatieKaboom · 24/02/2017 20:26

Hello! I am going to join you as my weight is probably the highest it's ever been (158pounds/71kg for my 171cm/5ft7- BMI not far from tipping over into overweight). I exercise a lot but can't control sugar cravings. A substantial dinner with a honey sauce will leave me hungry and fridge-raiding all evening. Same with rice. I now think it's very possibly the carbs.

Been reading about the benefits of a high fat diet. The hardest thing seems to be adjusting my attitude- I have this fat= bad belief. Going to try it though, as I am tired of being so flipping out of control with my appetite and also I want to get down to a BMI of 21 or 22 again.

Please, can some kind soul direct me to the rules?

You all seem like a very kind and knowledgeable bunch!

RupertsMum2 · 24/02/2017 20:40

Out for lunch with friends today. I doubt that pomegranate seeds are low carb but, generally, I don't think I did too badly.

B. FF Greek yogurt, strawberries and raspberries, coffee with cream
L. Bacon and roasted cauliflower salad with pomegranate seeds, steak, cabbage, coffee with milk.
D. Mushrooms in a creamy sauce, courgetti. Glass of red wine.

Ronniesleaddress · 24/02/2017 21:23

Hey Katie...just a few days in myself! I don't really have any advice other than to read everything you can on here. I have found it the best impartial advice all round.

I know what you mean about the fat. However, I have seen so many people in real life who eat like this and how they have had genuine great results for their weight and health. After reading about everyone's experiences on here as well I decided to take the plunge! It's an interesting challenge food wise but there's a lot of scope for new and interesting meals. I'm not finding it that hard with my kids either as I just bung some sort of carb on the side of what I'm having. Work is harder because I have food in front of me all day! Part of my problem is / was picking constantly

SayrraT · 24/02/2017 21:25

katie the rules can be found on the spreadsheet (linked in the OP).

KatieKaboom · 24/02/2017 22:24

Ronnie, nice to have another beginner!

Sayrra, thank you! I will try to make head or tail of it have a look! Smile It would be nice to lose weight and learn how to read a spreadsheet simultaneously.

maggiso · 24/02/2017 23:55

Ooh peanut butter in yoghurt sounds lovely- I have loads in the cupboard, as Pre BC I eat a teaspoon of almond or peanut butter as a snack when at home and wanting a salty snack. I was getting a bit bored of plain total yoghurt for breakfast.
Is a teaspoon of peanut butter OK in the first 2 weeks (I started late), or do I need to look forward to that in a weeks time?

maggiso · 25/02/2017 00:15

Oh I forgot - my corgette lasagna (using longitudinal slices of courgette and just layered with a meat and tomato and shallots mix, topped with cheese) was really nice- juicy and more like moussaka,.today I was delayed at work so DH had tea ready- bless him had made me celeriac mash to go with our LC sausages and mash. It was pretty good too.
B FF yoghurt and cream L fish (batter removed -all that was left) .lettuce tomatoes T sausages, brocolli celeriac mash.

Musicianofbremen · 25/02/2017 08:23

Sneak peek at the scales this morning and another lb off woo hoo.

Went out for dinner unexpectedly last night, I had olives for starter, chicken in a creamy sauce with green beans then peppermint tea (and the whipped cream and strawberries from DDs pudding). Didn't feel deprived at all.

Today
B: raspberries and ricotta
L:Greek salad
D:steak, spinach, tendersem broccoli.

Hesdeadjim · 25/02/2017 09:58

Off to do the shop today :)

I've decided to go to our local butcher and grocer rather than the supermarket for a lot of it. Ive never done this before but I just fancy a foodie trip out!

BIWI · 25/02/2017 11:15

Welcome, KatieKaboom! Hopefully when you find the rules, you'll see that they are straightforward - they've been designed to be easy to follow. No need to bother weighing or counting carbs (unless you particularly want to!), just follow the rules and you'll be fine.

And I well remember the first week of low carbing, being convinced that eating all the fat was going to result in a massive weight gain! But it really doesn't.

When you find the spreadsheet, look at the tabs at the bottom and you'll see one that has lots of resources - links to books or blogs or articles about low carbing, that will explain the science behind it. That should reassure you as well.

Morning all. Going out with friends for a curry this evening. Any suggestions for best low carb dish?

Lucy7400 · 25/02/2017 12:14

Does anyone know what's considered a low carb sausage?

I am loving the idea of peanut butter in yogurt.

Today.

B. Scrambelled egg
L. Bacon and avocado salad
D. Plaice cooked in foil with pak choi, ginger and chilli.

Hesdeadjim · 25/02/2017 13:06

Just back from the food shop and I loved it. Managed to do the whole thing without the use of the car or the supermarket, with 2 objectionable basset hounds as company Grin

Total veg cost: £4.60
Total meat cost: £22.60
Total deli (cheese etc): £21.40
Total extras (Epsom salts, some bits for DP) £20.70

All in LCHF for 2 people for 7 days: £69.70

Only things I couldn't get in town were salmon, almond milk, flat mushrooms, stir fry veggies and double cream, so I did stop at the supermarket on the way home and picked up our bath and cleaning stuff too.

Both dogs and I are exhausted!

Lucy We use Tesco Finest sausages. 1.5g for two sausages. Black Farmer ones are also good.

Veryflummoxed · 25/02/2017 14:27

Hesdead fantastic shop. How any one can say that doesn't look like a healthy way of eating is beyond me.
