Week 4 - Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp: are you KOKO?!

BIWI · 06/06/2016 07:40

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Doom Fabulousness

Week 3 might not have been kind to you - and here's the warning that week 4 might be the same Sad

But hopefully by now you're starting to adjust to low carbing, and should be feeling some of the other benefits, even if the scales are resolutely ignoring you!

If you're struggling, come here and tell us about it. Don't self-sabotage by thinking 'oh fuck it' and diving into the carbs!

Hi all, I'm due back to work after maternity leave and wondered if anyone could give me some nice lunch ideas that will keep nice till lunch?

I like salads at the moment so that would be good but I'm struggling to think of a salads that will stay fresh till lunch.

Thanks Flowers

WanHeda · 07/06/2016 14:27

Soup is always good Strawberry. Cream of asparagus, cream of leek, courgette, broccoli & basil, chicken & veg, creamy wild mushroom, kale & chorizo, cheese broccoli & cauliflower etc.

margaritasbythesea · 07/06/2016 14:35

BIWI - Thank you very much Flowers. I wouldn't be able to go on my crazy diet for a couple of weeks or more anyway so will apply tweaks and KOKO. I think I rely on dairy too much as a source of fat. I'm going to go back to stir frys and use sesame oil etc. Less carby veg with those usually too (wanders off to put shallots on mental shopping list....)

I probably drink more water than necessary if anything. Pinkie promise!

lexloofah · 07/06/2016 14:42

strawberry, will they be going in the fridge or a cool bag? Nothing worse than limp salad leaves. I am currently loving two courgettes grated, squeezed and mixed with hm mayo & black pepper. that will keep better and be more filling as part of your salad. as for what to have with it: egg mayo, tuna mayo, poached salmon & mayo, prawns & mayo maybe with a hard boiled egg, roast chicken & garlic mayo, ham roll ups, grated cheddar mixed with mayo and chopped spring onion. Olives good in pretty much any of those too.

I have just had stewed rhubarb ( no sweetener, just water) and cream - lovely. v v hungry today, no idea why as had sausages, eggs and mushrooms for brek with butter and coconut oil.

as for squishy fat, well mine is all squishy all of the time, no idea how I would tell it was pre-whoosh fat or not!

anniebambammie · 07/06/2016 14:43

Finally updated the spreadsheet Blush

Whoever it was that posted a recipe for "English muffins" awhile back- thank you!!!! So yum with a massive slab of melty butter on top....

Hello, for some reason I can't edit the spreadsheet. Would someone mind adding my weight inagain please?

I forgot to up date last week so there's 2 weeks to input
30/5 136.5lbs
6/6 134.25 lbs

Thank you Flowers and sorry Blush

WanHeda · 07/06/2016 16:26

Playnice, that looks delicious!

SingToMeInFrench · 07/06/2016 16:46

Thanks for the kind words everyone Flowers
I started a strong dose of ADs this morning and I've felt quite nauseous since midday. Not eaten much as a result, but trying to get all 3l drunk.

B: BPC
Early lunch: chicken and pork scratchings

Gcalgske · 07/06/2016 16:58

Margaritasbythesea try not to be disheartened. Do you have any PCOS or anything like that? A stall isn't a stall until a at least 4 weeks in my opinion BUT I know how frustrating it is to be inside one. Some of your veggies looked a bit carby (swede/onions) etc but are fine in moderation. You can swap onion for shallot /leek/spring onion easily though. One thing I do (if I'm having something with lots of tomato etc) is plan the day out so that my other meals are really low - so for example if having Bolognaise for tea lunch will be salad as tomato based meals can get high carb quickly.
I struggle with protein. As a woman with PCOS and insulin resistance I'm really prone to excess protein converting to sugar so I have to keep my protein portions sensible and fat high to see any loss and I've also had a lot of success with intermittent fasting.

Sing, hope you are feeling better soon. It's great that you felt in control of your emotional eating. Boredom is a massive trigger for me - and the reason I put on so much weight on maternity leave, to be honest. Well, I'm really bored at the moment being so restricted (got to a hospital appointment this morning and was wildly excited to be in a car, outside the house, away from the sofa!) but it really hasn't made me snack. I'd never have thought that was possible. There is a big bag of salted nuts in the kitchen and a bar of dark chocolate and ordinarily I couldn't rest knowing there was nice treat food in the house but I haven't felt tempted at all today.

Have had:
B - Greek yoghurt, water, black coffee
L - avocado and bacon salad with hm Mayo
D - roast chicken salad with hm Mayo, lots of fresh crunchy veg and mozzarella (which was reduced fat, purchased in error due to unclear packaging Angry 1.5 carbs per 100g and only had a little bit. Cheese-mad toddler tried it but spat it out in disgust - he's a pro low carber, full fat all the way).
S - 2 X creamy coffee, one mini pepper stuffed with cream cheese.
Loads of water - I don't measure but have got through 9l of sparkling water in just over two days so I think I'm drinking enough especially as I have still water in addition.

saffynool · 07/06/2016 17:51

My dinner smells delicious. Am roasting a pork fillet on a very low heat, with lots of garlic, cumin, fennel and red peppers. Put a slosh of white wine in there too but hopefully that won't do too much harm! I have actually emptied a couple of tins of butter beans into the roasting tin as well, for Dp and ds, but will have mine with broccoli and spinach. Yum!

saffynool · 07/06/2016 17:54

I've also ordered a load of cauli rice in this week's online shop - it's freezeable, right?!

LaserShark · 07/06/2016 17:56

I forgot to put that I had blueberries, raspberries and Greek yoghurt at dinner as well. I always miss something off my list!

Wintersea · 07/06/2016 17:59

Just posting meals to keep on track
B 3-egg omelette in lots of butter
L mushrooms in butter with a glug of double cream plus Ham/Philly roll ups x2
D will be chicken mixed with chopped up cucumber and a bit of tomato in ff Mayo with shand if salad leaves and avocado
Haven't been counting my carbs but did have a greedy guzzler portion of mushrooms (pretty much the whole plastic carton) and wondering if I should start....

Wintersea · 07/06/2016 18:00

Oh and still ploughing my way through the water (and checking for squidgy fat thighs)

wombattoo · 07/06/2016 18:01

Guy and MrsD s/s updated
Sing I'm glad you have a plan and a diagnosis. Hope you feel better soon Thanks

B: Ham and philly rolls
L: Chicken salad with mayo
D: Mince with swede/carrot mash (I didn't have much)

wombattoo · 07/06/2016 18:03

I think I had a visit from the whoosh fairy but don't want to say too much till I see it's still off in a day or two Grin

Justmuddlingalong · 07/06/2016 18:10

I started low carbing a few weeks before bootcamp. In almost 7 weeks I have lost a stone in weight. I now weigh 1 STONE less that I did 7 weeks ago!!! The inches I've lost is incredible. Everyone is noticing and I feel so much better for it. I wish I'd done this years ago, instead of moaning about how heavy I was getting. Please persevere BCers. You'll be glad you did.

ReggaeShark · 07/06/2016 18:11

Oooh Wombat, exciting. Fingers crossed.

I keep seeing that people have eaten pork belly slices. I have some but don't know what to do with them. Help, anyone?

wombattoo · 07/06/2016 18:22

Thank you Reggae We just put pork belly in a roasting tin, cover with foil and slow roast. Take foil off for last 30 mins to crisp up. Lovely.
I have seen other say they coat them in spices and put in slow cooker.

Just That is a fantastic loss. Well done Thanks

nekobus · 07/06/2016 18:31

excited for you wombat ! I did a sneaky weigh in today and back down to 175 so the 2 lbs I put on has come off again, phew! I knew things were ok as I'm now onto 4th hole in my belt Smile

Reggae I dust them with (sugar free) 5 spice powder then roast at 180/90 in fan oven for about 20 mins. If I don't eat them straight away, I save them in fridge and then chop into chunks and re-fry them later for e.g adding to stir fry (I've never liked the fat on meat unless it is crispy so this helps render more of the fat out).

Just what a great loss! thanks for the reminder to stick with it!

Wintersea · 07/06/2016 18:36

Like the sound of this sugar-free 5 spice powder nekibus can you recommend a brand and is it usually found in normal spice section or in world foods?
Fab loss justmuddling - very inspiring!
Smile wombatoo

Wintersea · 07/06/2016 18:44

Sorry, nekobus - and well done on the 2kb down!

saffynool · 07/06/2016 19:22

I do my pork belly slices with cumin, paprika, fennel seeds, etc - or recently I bought a Baharat spice mix from Bart spices which was lovely with them. The longer and slower you can cook them for the better - makes the fat soft and delicious and the outside crispy.

I find I need something crispy or sharp flavoured to eat with them though as they get so unctuous, you need something to cut through that. So a salad, or maybe some cauli rice fried with a squirt of lemon?

They are so cheap and so delicious, well worth giving them a go.
