Week 4 - Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp: are you KOKO?!

BIWI · 06/06/2016 07:40

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Doom Fabulousness

Week 3 might not have been kind to you - and here's the warning that week 4 might be the same Sad

But hopefully by now you're starting to adjust to low carbing, and should be feeling some of the other benefits, even if the scales are resolutely ignoring you!

If you're struggling, come here and tell us about it. Don't self-sabotage by thinking 'oh fuck it' and diving into the carbs!

Anyway, my food today hasn't been exemplary:
B - Greek yoghurt followed by bacon and eggs
L - underripe avocado fried in coconut oil with mozzarella and salad. Bowl of Greek yoghurt.
D - gammon and fried egg with fried courgette and pepper
S - cashew nuts and a creamy coffee

Way too much processed meat and not the best choice of nuts from a lc perspective (though they were delicious). I was just so hungry today and ate so much food. Have had a couple of queasy days where I didn't want much fat so maybe that's why.

LaserShark · 08/06/2016 21:33

Oh and I drank over 3 litres of water.

stilllovin, you're right - a one off would be ok but when it's ongoing like this I need to plan ahead or it could send me right off the rails!

bettyblueeyes83 · 08/06/2016 21:36

Oops, was still hungry so had another snack of FF Greek yog with double cream, with cinnamon and vanilla and some macadamia nuts - was really good!

stilllovingmysleep · 08/06/2016 21:39

nekobus I've also been doing more exercise (=lots of walking) helped by the amazing weather.

By the way: for those of you who remember the konjacgate, where I (and another Bootcamper) had eaten Konjac noodles a couple of weeks ago & ended up vomiting & feeling awful in every way, I confess that today I gave konjac noodles another go as an experiment. This time I ate half a packet (not the whole thing as the previous time), boiled them in some water for a while & drank endless glasses of water before & after (and am still drinking water out of fear!) I also took an omeprazole in advance Grin. I know all this sounds completely overkill, but its because konjac noodles can play absolute havoc on the digestive system. I'll report back on how it goes!

lexloofah · 08/06/2016 21:40

play, I made similar frozen lollies today, just some stewed rhubarb, greek yog and vanilla blended. they are a nice, cooling treat for the summer. DCs not happy I have used the lolly mould usually reserved for them so will just have to get my own one

PlayNice · 08/06/2016 21:49

I got mine from Poundland. And Lidl had some ones shaped like Calypso moulds when I was in a few days ago. I'm thinking I might make some ones with just lime juice and water, or lemon, or crushed raspberries and yogurt. Not quite the same as fruit ice lollies, but would probably hit the spot on certain days.

Rhubarb is a good idea! I may try that later this week. Might blend some almond essence in with my yogurt and see how that tastes.

margaritasbythesea · 08/06/2016 21:59

I know this isn't the recipe thread but I thought I'd post this Hairy Bikers masala roasted chicken. They tout it as 'guilt free' curry but I don't think there is anything particularly low calorie about it It's a real crowd pleaser with all my family. I don't do it with yoghurt because DH doesn't like it. I just make the marinade with oli instead. My kids love that and make me spoon it over their rice. Perfect to make with chicken thighs. It's really tasty.

margaritasbythesea · 08/06/2016 22:00

Ignore the low fat yoghurt obvs Wink even if you do decide to make it with yoghurt and not oil.

Flisspaps · 08/06/2016 22:06

Hope DS is ok today tits.

I've been much less miserable this afternoon. All I've eaten is a bit of bacon for breakfast and some bolognese with courgetti for tea. Not been particularly hungry today at all. Total U turn from last night.

Wombat I slowly fried my courgetti in butter until it was like fried onion, then stirred in cheddar and some garlic oil. It was lovely - not bitter or odd smelling, but I find it usually does so perhaps I've not cooked it long enough before. It's definitely better with some sort of sauce than on its own though

Feeling a bit uninspired but KOKO. Have 2 meals out this weekend. Checked menus online. Saturday will be fine but nothing very low carb for Friday. This will be with a very dear and poorly friend and if she's well enough to go out I'm not going to make requests to swap dishes around to suit. The evening will be all about her and just the 2 of us. Very special. And there will be wine if she wants it. And on Saturday for my lovely dad's 85th. So hmmmm.

L: Tuna mayo and Lettuce roll ups. Radishes.
S: 2 mini Baby bell
D: cold fried salmon, fried haloumi, salad, mayo
H20: 4 litres
Pilates class.

CathemeralChild · 08/06/2016 22:31

As a non-meat eater I'm struggling to eat enough protein and fat. I ate about 50g almonds earlier and then felt guilty but I couldn't face fish again.
Dinner was supposed to be spag bol but I decided that was too carby and had spinach and rocket salad with a tin of tuna instead. Trouble is, I put gherkins, jalapeños, and capers on most things and wonder if I'm sneaking in too many carbs there?
I miss lentils and chickpeas. Sad

Oh, and I bought some mayonnaise and remembered why we never eat it. Yuk. Hence the need for the capers........

StuntNun · 08/06/2016 22:35

Courgetti is nicer if you slice it in advance then leave it on some paper towel for a couple of hours to dry out a bit. The other option would be to leave the seedy centre out - maybe it could be added to salad for an earlier meal?

PlayNice · 08/06/2016 22:37

Have you tried making your own? I hate shop bought mayonnaise, but I love it homemade. Or hollondaise with asparagus or fish? Mmm.

How about dairy? Does it stall you? Yogurt, cheese, double cream? You could make a roasted vegetable lasagna with cheese for fat and protein.

Or avocados? They're high in fat, although not in protein.

PlayNice · 08/06/2016 22:52

You could try:

  • tofu in a peanut butter and soy sauce
  • cheddar/cauliflower cream soup
  • crustless quiche with goats cheese (or another cheese) and roasted vegetables, or perhaps pesto or sundried tomatoes
  • grilled vegetable fajita salad with sour cream and guacamole OR white fish lettuce leaf tacos with sour cream and guac.
  • smoked fish like kippers with butter and salad

That should all have fat and protein. I definitely find fat easiest to eat in avocados or in creamy products like yogurt (or cream).

StrawberryLeaf · 08/06/2016 23:02

I found the chat earlier regarding how strict to be very interesting.

Today has been:

B - Greek yoghurt
L - tuna, egg, lettuce, radish, asparagus salad
D - spicy mince (chilli type without beans) with lettuce and Greek you and jalapeños. Then for the first time, a few dark chocolate drops melted and mixed with cream cheese and cream Grin
S - chunks of cheese

margaritasbythesea · 08/06/2016 23:14

Someone upthread mentioned Rose Elliot's low carb vegetarian. There are second hand copies pretty cheap on amazon. Thinking of getting it myself.

Gcalgske · 08/06/2016 23:15

Steak with swede chips (yesterday) and pork belly with asparagus and roast radishes (today)

Roast radishes?! My mind is blown. What did they taste like?

Wintersea · 08/06/2016 23:45

No.... Those photos are making me hungry. Both look delicious gcalgske - think I'll be copying swede chips and roast radishes. Today I had
B coffee with cream x2
L bacon, 2 eggs and small tomato
Snack Philly ff cheese on cucumber wedges
D salmon grilled with lots of olive oil plus and home made chunky tzatsiki (total ff yoghurt, crushed garlic and more cucumber)
Lots if jasmine tea, few cheeky sips of DH's gin and slim and lots of water
Night all

PlayNice · 09/06/2016 00:03

Omg those swede chips! Copying.

CathemeralChild · 09/06/2016 01:03

Thank you for the tips PlayNice.
I went to a different supermarket today to get tofu, which will make a change. I'm trying to avoid cheese, although I don't want to! I could eat it breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Veryflummoxed · 09/06/2016 02:01

Here's hoping stilllovingSmile

ClopySow · 09/06/2016 06:43

I'm having a much better week this week. But, i'm letting myself down on the water drinking. I felt so thirsty in the first few weeks, but i just don't have the same thirst now so i just keep forgetting.

Equiem89 · 09/06/2016 07:20

I've lost 3lbs since Tuesday and 6lbs since last Wednesday Grin thought I was weeing a lot yesterday Grin

BIWI · 09/06/2016 07:28

Reggae

I'm very sorry to hear that your friend is really ill Sad. However why should this be a reason for you not to eat properly? Asking for a replacement dish is nothing unusual and I'm sure your friend won't see it as a problem!
