Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp - I declare it to be open!

Welcome everyone!

We have around 130 people signed up this time, so it's going to be a busy and fast-moving thread.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to enter your weight.

The lovely Sayrra manages the spreadsheet. Please don't mess with it! Just enter your weight and leave all the other columns/rows alone!

I'll start a questions thread to run along side this chat thread, so that you can post stuff there in the knowledge that your question will definitely be seen. (I can't promise to get to your questions immediately, but I will read and answer them)

And please, please, please - no matter how fast-moving the thread is, please read the whole thing and don't just post your own thing. You'll miss a lot of valuable stuff that way, and it also presumes that I (and other posters) are happy to keep repeating stuff.

But above all, very good luck everyone!

Evening all.

Firstly, just to say caffeine isn't banned on Bootcamp. It's a bit of a controversial one though - some low carb plans ban it, others allow it. Atkins forbade it in his original plan but then allowed it in his more recent one (or the other way round - can't remember!)

My view was that going 'cold turkey' from caffeine as well as carbs would probably mean that no-one would ever speak to me ever again, so I allow it ... Grin

Second, low fat foods aren't a good idea on Bootcamp - even if carb counts are low - we're aiming to eat food in the following proportions: fat/protein/carbs. You need the full fat versions of everything!

My day hasn't been great - lunch on the plane was a sandwich and a Kit Kat. Thanks, BA Hmm. I did swerve the gin & tonic and the wine though Halo

And now I'm starving - I hate the hollow feeling of hunger that comes when you've eaten too many carbs!

Titsalinabumsquash I think we all need a duckling to play with!

Titsalinabumsquash · 16/05/2016 17:32

It certainly passes the time having a little duckling, he/she is very tiny and adorable and if mama hen would let me, I'd pop him in my pocket for all day entertainment, sadly she's very protective of her 'chick'.

wombattoo · 16/05/2016 17:35

flip I have seen posters report improvements with sinuses on previous threads.
There are loads of other benefits such as improved sleep but it has never helped me sleep

flipdoodle · 16/05/2016 17:45

I can't report improved sleep, I've slept terribly the last few days. Very specific circumstances though, I don't blame bootcamp :)

Statelychangers · 16/05/2016 17:46

Not bad today - loads of different veg
B curry with spring greens
L pork stir fry
D shakshuka with broccoli

Snacks - successfully avoided the stevia sweetened dark choc and had a few cherry tomatoes instead. Drinks mint tea and lemon tea.

flipdoodle · 16/05/2016 17:48

If BIWI could see fit to issue all bootcamp inductees with ducklings to take our minds off carb cravings I'm sure we'd all see resounding success! Grin

stilllovingmysleep · 16/05/2016 17:51

Hi all! So excited to be finally starting. Accountability and peer support is crucial for me so I'm very pleased.

Today I had
B: omelette with sautéed sliced mushrooms and some broccolini
L: leftover roast chicken with broccolini and oil / lemon

BIWI · 16/05/2016 17:58

And where would I get 150 ducklings at this short notice? Grin

Low Carb heals my skin - that's really why I'm here - any weight loss is a nice bonus

Xoticdreamz · 16/05/2016 18:16

I think I have done okay today . Eggs , varied types of chicken with Piri Piri sauce and some salad without the tomatoes . Quite a lot of all these though !
I find it really difficult not to look at the calories and focus on the carbs when logging .
Feel really positive though .

WanHeda · 16/05/2016 18:16

Another successful day :)

B - BLT
L - Sausages & fried mushrooms
D - Meatball stroganoff with cauli rice

Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp - I declare it to be open!
Veryflummoxed · 16/05/2016 18:19

My menu for day one. It was delicious and I am stuffed.

B. Two poached eggs on buttered spinach

Coffee with cream.

L. Home made beef burger (beef skirt, finely chopped shallot, egg). Mushrooms cooked in butter. Undressed green salad leaves baby bel cheese, mayonnaise.

D. 2 low carb sausages (1.6 gm carb total). Celeriac mash (well buttered) runner beans, more butter. English mustard.

Mint tea, black tea, half litre of sparkling water. And (will have drunk) 3.5 litre tap water.

I find the water drinking one of the hardest things. I practised building up last week. Am using a 24ounce water bottle so need to drink 5. I am using a tip from the internet. Start with five bands around the bottle. Each time I empty it I take a band off and put it on the handle. Stops me loosing count (as long as I remember to do it!) and encourages me. Am adding ice and slice of lime to water.

Equiem89 · 16/05/2016 18:20

I definitely sleep better when I low carb. I must get better quality sleep because I have crazy dreams. I know I'm in ketosis when the crazy dreams start.

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 16/05/2016 18:23

wombat thanks. That's why I only had a small amount and I don't want to continue having the tomatoes.

I have so much coffee normally that I think cutting down is good enough. I've been so thirsty today that I've been craving water, not coffee.

SayrraT · 16/05/2016 18:24

Thanks wombat I'm still at work but I'll add extra once I'm home. You are a Star for adding everyone, I really appreciate it.

I think this might be one of the biggest BCs we've had.

BIWI · 16/05/2016 18:29

It's like herding cats

OP posts:
flyright · 16/05/2016 18:40

I'm not sure cats and ducklings are the best combo

WanHeda · 16/05/2016 18:41

Plenty of protein though.

Pengweng · 16/05/2016 18:42

So far today I've had,
Breakfast: 2 eggs cooked in ghee with brussel sprouts (a bit too carby i know but they needed eating and I won't buy any more) and mushrooms and some salami.
Lunch was cucumber, goats cheese, 2 slices of ham and an egg.
Snack - babybel and some yoghurt with vanilla extract
Dinner is going to be roasted veg (courgettes, green peppers, a few baby tomatoes and shallots cooked in olive oil) and salmon fillet with butter.

I am normally absolutely starving by now and would normally be snacking on something while DH does bedtime but I'm actually not gnawing my own arm off. And i felt shocking this morning but I've perked up a bit though still have a sore throat.
Drinks were black coffee x2 (very restrained for me as normally have about 6) and water. Might have a cup of black tea before bed.

SaltedCaramels · 16/05/2016 18:43

Thanks to the poster who suggested M&S for Serrano ham & manchego rolls! Delicious & filling, and only 1.6g carbs. Had that for dinner with 2 boiled eggs (am going out to an event so needed to eat at work!).

ClopySow · 16/05/2016 18:45

I've been low carbing for a month now but i've been shit with the wine in the last week so i'm back to the start with you lot this week.

So.

B Coffee with cream, 2 of those black farmers sausages

L large green salad with pastrami, stilton and celery and a good dollop of mayo

Coffee with cream and a cold sausage mid afternoon

D left over roast beef, cauli mash, leeks and spinach with a desert spoon of cream cheese

I'm worried my diet is a bit dairy heavy and might need to cut back.

BIWI · 16/05/2016 18:47

... also a bit heavy on the processed food! (Sausages and pastrami)

OP posts:
WanHeda · 16/05/2016 18:48

The tandoori calamari & prawn pots at M&S are delicious too.

wombattoo · 16/05/2016 18:49

Pengweng I've just looked at the carb count for sprouts. I don't think they're too bad. Plus I eat loads of them!
