Welcome everyone!

We have around 130 people signed up this time, so it's going to be a busy and fast-moving thread.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to enter your weight.

The lovely Sayrra manages the spreadsheet. Please don't mess with it! Just enter your weight and leave all the other columns/rows alone!

I'll start a questions thread to run along side this chat thread, so that you can post stuff there in the knowledge that your question will definitely be seen. (I can't promise to get to your questions immediately, but I will read and answer them)

And please, please, please - no matter how fast-moving the thread is, please read the whole thing and don't just post your own thing. You'll miss a lot of valuable stuff that way, and it also presumes that I (and other posters) are happy to keep repeating stuff.

But above all, very good luck everyone!

Yeah I cut their cereals way back and stopped fruit juices a long time ago. They usually have eggs or ham and cheese and bread and salad. I'm going to try them on less carbs and more fat. They just had the same lunch as me but I did give them some pita bread too.

BIWI · 19/05/2016 12:20

Certainly children should be having full fat everything anyway, as they need it to grow

Feeling good today . Off work so generally eat a little less .
Quite proud that no alcohol has past my lips since sat might as I am partial to a G and T every couple of nights .

Today so far
A creamy coffee .. I watered down the cream a little and I did although I know its rubbish used one sweetener . I did try without and hated it .
I've just finished a lovely feta , chicken and olive salad with a nice big dollop of mayo which was lovely .
For dinner I have some mussels in a white wine and garlic sauce ( I assume no actual alcohol is in the pack ?) and a ton of spinach .
Some olives or a boiled egg later if I need it .
I've lost a pound so far which is okay with me .

Hi everyone

Going okay here. As long as no one tells BIWI I had a glass of wine

Getting a bit fed up with my frittata and feta for lunch. I've had it every work day for over 2 weeks.

So thinking of a cottage pie type thing. Make a big batch and freeze in portions. Using celeriac and leek as the topping which someone helpfully mentioned up thread.

Wondering a bit about how to make the mince tasty. I usually use a lot of Passata or purée and they will be out because of sugar.

Maybe add soy? Just stock cubes? Will have a think but any ideas welcome.

Xoticdreamz · 19/05/2016 12:23

The mistakes annoy me !

flyright that's what the recipe thread is for! There's a recipe wot I wrote there for shepherd's pie, using celeriac and leek mash.

flyright you can use passata just get one without added sugar and don't go mad. I typically use 2/3 of a 500g carton to make a Bolognaise that will serve 4 plus a pre schooler. So it's possible just don't go mad. Getting a rich beefy flavour in cottage pie though can be achieved with the addition of minimal carbs. You need to get the maillard (sp sorry) reaction going which develops the umami flavour profile.
Best thing to do is to use 20% fat mince and brown in small batches. And I mean brown, like the fat on a well done steak brown, dark golden and crunchy. The fat will render out. Do not dump it, use it to fry shallots and mushrooms. Again get them brown. Then add back the meat and deglaze the pan. I use a (1/2 glass) bit of very dry red (the majority of the alcohol will cook off and has low carbs) once BC lite or bone broth/hm stock or a good quality bought stock (or even beef consommé). Heston blumenthal recommends the use of whole star anise for a boost of beefy flavour. I tie them up in a spice bag to avoid losing the little blighters. It doesn't taste of star anise, just meatier... Simmer it gently or transfer to a slow cooker. 1 hour minimum, 3 hours plus is better.

Eva50 · 19/05/2016 13:17

The mashed celeriac with butter was lovely. Dh can be a bit funny with new things but he really enjoyed it. I'm going to roast the rest of it tonight.

regularbutpanickingabit · 19/05/2016 13:23

EMERGENCY!!! Potato supplied for lunch with beans and cheese. In M&S on rescue mission. No egg and spinach protein pots. Choices...
Layered crab5.1g carbs but 0.3 sugars
Or salmon fillet 0.7 carbs 0.1 sugars plus Greek salad 2.2g carbs and 2.2 sugars. Help!!!!

flyright · 19/05/2016 13:25

Gcalske that's very kind - thanks for that - will give it a go.

And read the recipes thread Blush

regularbutpanickingabit · 19/05/2016 13:26

Or salmon and pot of baby mozzarella carbs 0.6. Think I will go with that?

WanHeda · 19/05/2016 13:26

regular I'd go for the salmon & the salad

WanHeda · 19/05/2016 13:29

strawberry butter chicken recipe here - foodess.com/recipes/butter-chicken/ I made the sauce then put it in the slow cooker instead of simmering it in the pan. I also used shallots instead of onion.

This is my lunch today, celeriac and smoked salmon dauphinoise!

Weird stomach gurglings going on with me.

And zero hunger.

I missed breakfast today (sorry Biwi!) mainly because I was so busy but also because I just wasn't hungry at all!
Have eaten breakfast and lunch together to make up Smile

Jemmima · 19/05/2016 13:46

Just checking in. BIWI thanks for being here for everyone.

Im not going to post to much as I am doing paleo which is low carbish but my meals would through people off. Maybe when people are doing bootcamp light I can join in more. I don't eat dairy in any form and don't have too much fat as it makes me feel awful. Lost a couple of stone already so hoping that checking in on here will keep me from straying. Paleo treats are too yummy :)

Jemmima · 19/05/2016 13:47

"throw!

ClopySow · 19/05/2016 13:50

I measured in inches today rather than scales because my scales are cheap tat and can differ by a stone.

I started low carbing about a month ago, and quickly lost about 1.5 inches from my waist and under boobs, but stalled completely on my weight loss in the last fortnight due to too much dairy and wine

I adjusted this week, much less dairy and no wine (yet) and i've lost another inch around my waist, 1.5 under my boobs and almost an inch around my neck since i measured on sunday night. The great thing is, usually when i lose weight, my boobs and bum disappear but my waist stays thick. With this method, it's the fat around my torso that's disappearing. Two of my colleagues have been in to ask me about it and commented on the difference in my waist and back.

Jemmima · 19/05/2016 14:07

Sounds good Clopy. I found that when I ditched all dairy my weight loss was much quicker. I also found that my hormones sorted themselves out and hot flushes stopped (menopausal). My daughter went dairy free and all her period pains and cramps went. There is a lot to be said for not having dairy. I did a lot of research on it and it is very high in oestrogen which is not beneficial to us and the calcium benefits are apparently lies. All very interesting.

lisbapalea · 19/05/2016 14:14

All good here - bit headachey so have just guzzled 1l of water and hope it will pass.

B - DH went out yesterday to get greek yogurt for this morning's breakfast and he came back with Yeo Valley full fat plain, which is much carbier. So I mixed some of that with some ff creme fraiche for my breakfast which I had with dessicated coconut and flaxseed.
L - hm salad with 2 boiled eggs, approx 1/3 of a large avocado, some cubes of cheddar, chopped cucumber, loads of homemade coleslaw, some homemade tzatziki and some lettuce. It was massive and I now feel stuffed!
D - not sure but will prob be something like a frittata to use up some kale and blue cheese that are both on the turn

FinallyHere · 19/05/2016 14:26

Yes, have read lots (sorry, no sources....) about dark green leafy veg having more calcium available.

Feeling really good about things today, I haven't measured my middle but notice that doing up my belt is now two notches smaller than on Monday. I know that difference can't be maintained but its great to see the evidence that it is finally ( sic) going the right direction.

Todays breakfast was mushroom, spinach and bacon. I know bacon not ideal... Then lunch lamb and spinach and broccoli. It came with feta creme and a tiny heap of mash, seriously a spoonful. I was considering just eating the while lot then thought why make a fuss about getting an alternative to yesterdays catered lunch and then choosing to eat potatoes today, however small a portion. Going to be very busy tonight so I'm not sure what will happen about supper, glad to be on a roll so that i am motivated to find something suitable.

Hoping the lady in M&S found something good. M&S in motorway service stations have been really useful for me.

poorbuthappy · 19/05/2016 14:28

Wanheda that looks lovely!

Statelychangers · 19/05/2016 14:35

Also to add to the diary free discussion. I am on low carb to help heal an autoimmune disorder - I also need to be diary free, not because of the carbs but because the protein in diary - casein raises insulin-like factor 1 (IGF1). Insulin spikes either from carbs or casein result in hormone issues and so we are advised to avoid them.

Gcalgske · 19/05/2016 14:46

Statelychangers thanks for that, I'm rubbish with the science but read phinney/volek (I understand it when I read it then it falls out my head!) Grin
