Welcome everyone!

We have around 130 people signed up this time, so it's going to be a busy and fast-moving thread.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to enter your weight.

The lovely Sayrra manages the spreadsheet. Please don't mess with it! Just enter your weight and leave all the other columns/rows alone!

I'll start a questions thread to run along side this chat thread, so that you can post stuff there in the knowledge that your question will definitely be seen. (I can't promise to get to your questions immediately, but I will read and answer them)

And please, please, please - no matter how fast-moving the thread is, please read the whole thing and don't just post your own thing. You'll miss a lot of valuable stuff that way, and it also presumes that I (and other posters) are happy to keep repeating stuff.

But above all, very good luck everyone!

Morning everyone!

I'm feeling a bit crap this morning, spaced out feeling and my muscles feel like I've been exercising. I suppose this is carb withdrawal.

I'm breastfeeding my 11 month old, she doesn't feed much now only all bloody night Hmm so I thought bootcamp would be fine. Wondering whether to hold out on bootcamp or move over to lite.

Maybe I'm being impatient, it's only been a day but I do feel very run down and I was hoping for more energy reducing carbs.

SoMuchToBits · 17/05/2016 08:57

I was thinking of having last night's leftover Bolognese for breakfast - but my 15 year old ds saw it in the fridge and snaffled it for his own breakfast! Grin Looks like another omelette then... (but I'm not fed up with eggs yet, so that's ok!)

stilllovingmysleep · 17/05/2016 08:59

Strawberryleaf: yes it's only one day, I urge you to continue! Try drinking lots of water / take paracetamol if needed and make sure you're eating lots. If you're not sleeping well due to bf that on its own doesn't help of course...

Pengweng: what is courgetti? Sounds intriguing

BIWI thanks for tips for breakfast. I'll try some of these

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 17/05/2016 09:01

Morning all. Just had my breakfast - 2 scrambled eggs with spinach in butter with coffee and cream - and finally have some shopping coming later so my meals can hopefully start to get a bit more interesting Grin

reader77 · 17/05/2016 09:06

Costa coffee with pouring cream - I don't think any of the other big chains offer cream.

Salmon, scrambled eggs and asparagus for brunch.

CiderwithBuda · 17/05/2016 09:07

Morning all.

Day one went well although I was hungry so snacked a bit. Babybels and a slice of ham. I think my lunchtime salad didn't have enough protein and dressing. Mid afternoon I was really craving something crunchy so succumbed to some almonds. Had 8 and they took craving away. Not ideal but not too bad I don't think.

B was scrambled eggs, halloumi and two cold sausages
Lunch was egg mayo, salad,,a slice of bacon and some avocado.
Dinner was yummy! Steak and I fried up some shallots, some yellow pepper, asparagus and mushrooms, lots of salt and pepper, whole grain mustard and some cream. Very nice!
Was nibbly in the evening so had some Brie.

Drank lots of water. Although perhaps not the 3.5l I need. Will measure and count it more today.

I don't drink much coffee but do love my tea. Just had two yesterday morning though which is good. Had herbal teas after.

I'm out for lunch today at an ASK Italian restaurant. About to check out the menu to plan what to have.

Oh! I forgot to say with coconut oil, in not sure if it's well known but just incase.

In Tesco, the oil and vinegar section has coconut oil in various forms for £££ but if you go along to the international food section there is a jar of 100% coconut oil for £1.50 per jar and it's exactly the same stuff! I always buy a few jars when I go incase someone realises and takes it away. Blush

This vs this! I know it's not organic but still v.naughty of the shops imo.

Stillloving - courgetti is spiralised courgetti strips used in place of pasta. You can buy a spiraliser or use a julienne peeler. I find the spiraliser easier - mine just works like a pencil sharpener. In the states they called them zoodles as they call courgettes zucchini. You can steam them or fry up in a bit of oil. You can buy them ready done now in Sainsburys and Tesco which is handy but expensive in comparison to doing it yourself. I love them done with some red onion - shallots would be lower carb - asparagus, cherry tomatoes and pesto and have a piece of salmon with it. Yum.

Iamdobby63 · 17/05/2016 09:18

Gcalgske Re double cream, according to my packaging it's 1.6 carb per 100ml. But it is very calorific and as you said can be easily over done so we do need to restrict the consumption. I don't have more than 45ml and I water it down for use in coffee.

BIWI · 17/05/2016 09:19

Sainsbury sell them ready made, along with 'Boodles' - butternut squash boodles, as well as cauliflower rice - although every time I've gone to buy some, they're sold out! They're in the ready prepared section in the veg aisle.

I blitz up a couple of caulis in the food processor and freeze them in portions: hey presto, cauli rice available in 5 mins in a wok. Not sure courgetti would freeze as well though.

I'm also loving Sainsbo's mushroom antipasto, v low carb and a big spoonful on an avocado makes a great lunch.

Breakfast was Sunday's leftover fish stew and a bullet-proof coffee. Have 2 boiled eggs for snacks and I'm practising my simple but effective socially-obliged carb repellent: "not for me, thanks" .

Pengweng · 17/05/2016 09:32

Yes courgette noodles. I normally buy them premade from Waitrose but they didn't have any last time i shopped Shock Grin so i just bought some courgettes and will make my own. One courgette is about right for just me. I normally have it with pesto but that's out because it has pine nuts in it so I'm having meatballs instead.

I think i might have to switch to sainsburys though as I've seen lots of stuff from there recommended.

HavingAnOffDAy · 17/05/2016 09:32

Wow, I'm so glad I found you! I've been dithering about starting low carbing again & thought I'd have a sneaky look at the food lists etc this morning & found a lovely new bootcamp. It must be fate Grin

I'm not adding myself to the s/s but will be sticking to the WOE.

I've a hen weekend in the sun coming up in less than three weeks, and then the wedding itself...both incentives for me

Pengweng · 17/05/2016 09:33

I also blitz cauliflower and keep it in a big tub in freezer so I can just get a few scoops out when i need it. I just cook it in the microwave and then fry it up for egg fried rice.

DoingItForMyselfAtLast · 17/05/2016 09:35

Oh Em Gee, found heaven in a mouthful. Literally. It's their tagline! CoYo coconut yoghurt, vanilla flavour. Fat 19, protein 3, carbs 0.5

Breakfast sorted! and lunch and dinner

WanHeda · 17/05/2016 09:48

Doing, they are soooo expensive though! :(

DoingItForMyselfAtLast · 17/05/2016 09:58

I know. Sad

But I'm worth it!

For today anyway. Tomorrow it's back to eggs!

Gcalgske · 17/05/2016 10:04

KP that coconut oil is ok and a bargain but it's highly processed. It's a good fat source but doesn't have coconut taste (some people think that's a good thing)
It also doesn't have some of the excellent fat that cold pressed / virgin coconut oil has (MCT's) which are great for energy.
There is a a third way with coconut oil - you get lightly steamed which removes the taste but keeps most of the MCTs. Biona cuisine is the brand I get but there are others.

Gcalgske · 17/05/2016 10:08

Titsalinabumsquash sorry but it's not the same stuff. above post before I saw yours

It's highly processed, the difference isn't just about organic/ not organic. Obviously price is a big factor but if you shop around you can get cold pressed for a good price. Aldi and home bargains recently started carrying it.

Titsalinabumsquash · 17/05/2016 10:16

Oh balls! Thanks though. At least I know now. Smile

When people roast some veg, which ones are you all using to keep the carbs down? I'm hoping to have some mixed roast veggies to go with my chicken for dinner.

Workinzzz · 17/05/2016 10:24

Please can i join? Even though I'm late?

Gcalgske · 17/05/2016 10:25

wanheda I am close to Aberdeen. I went to the restaurant for my birthday earlier this month and I was so so so disappointed to have made the 1.5hour round trip...

Started ok, ordered a salad 'aux lardons' and asparagus with hazelnuts, egg and hollandaise for me and hubs to share. Picture on the menu of salad with bacon lardons and soft yoked eggs, what arrived was limp lettuce with Parma ham and hard boiled egg (complete with green yolk which I hate) asparagus. It was ok. Main was a bit of a disaster. Hubs isn't LC so he had fish and chips which was fine but I ordered the chicken yakitori (made with xylitol) with the low carb veg option - he asked me twice if I meant quinoa (should have known) when it came it was a plate of chicken with overlooked sweet corn, peas and carrots (pre mixed frozen veg looked like) on the side. I nearly cried. I know it's an over reaction but I'm trying to make this a permanent lifestyle change and thought that ONCE I wouldn't have to tweak things, change things, sub things and have drawn out conversations with waiters who don't care. Sad
When I said "I'm afraid those vegetables aren't low carb, I can't eat them" (was v polite despite annoyance he went away and changed them for more limp undressed lettuce this time with shredded carrot (SMH)
I was sooooooo looking forward to treating myself for my birthday to a pudding made with xylitol- the owner came over to show me her "low carb" flour blend ONLY 39g/100g. She got a bit ratty with me (I remained polite but explained that I eat less than 20g carbs per day) which she told me was "too low" Hmm
She wasn't happy that I wouldn't order pudding. Overall it was a disaster. I'm a keen cook. The best thing about low carb to me is the freedom and variety of gorgeous food I can make but I get tired of cook sometimes and just want someone to cook something for me that won't give me a stomach ache or send my insulin rocketing/ eczema flare etc.
The definition of low carb at that restaurant is not, IMO, low carb. It's an average eatery that caters to gluten free quite well and has options lower than potatoes and rice but by no stretch of the imagination low carb. Better off going to cafe Boheme or prime cuts and making subs.

Mookbark · 17/05/2016 10:25

Morning all.
I didn't manage to post yesterday as I was busy at work.
I have been LCing again for almost 2 weeks and feeling good about it at the moment. Not feeling so good about my weight, but I was down 3.4lbs from the Monday before so going in the right direction.
DH has stolen my lettuce this morning, and half of my tuna mayonnaise, so lunch isn't quite what I had in mind! Think I need to do another internet shop tonight.

B: creamy coffee x2 - I know cream isn't great but it's so lovely. I try to restrict myself to 2 and when my weight loss stalls, I might will cut down.
L; odd bits of veg (cucumber, celery, mushrooms, 2 cherry toms), tuna mayonnaise , olives, also have an avocado if I need more food.
D: something chickeny
S: spicy chai latte with almond milk, babybels on standby.

I can't remember who was asking about F&B's, but I went at the weekend and had the steak and fries, without fries but with salad. It was fairly uninspiring tbh, but was LC.

Lastly, I want a duckling.

Grin
Mookbark · 17/05/2016 10:30

Gcal I think I would have cried in that situation.
The best meal I've had out since LCing was at a handmade burger Co. place. I had a bunless burger with salad and a bit of coleslaw and it was absolutely lovely and very, very filling. We are out to see a comedy show on Thursday and I am hoping we will have time to nip in there first.

WanHeda · 17/05/2016 10:35

Gcal, oh that is so disappointing :( I amabout an hour away and visit a few times a year and was going to eat there - definitely wont now! That sounds poor, it would be s easy to cater for proper low-carbers! I am also a foodie and love cooking, they could easy add celeriac mash or courgetti to meals.
