Welcome everyone!

We have around 130 people signed up this time, so it's going to be a busy and fast-moving thread.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to enter your weight.

The lovely Sayrra manages the spreadsheet. Please don't mess with it! Just enter your weight and leave all the other columns/rows alone!

I'll start a questions thread to run along side this chat thread, so that you can post stuff there in the knowledge that your question will definitely be seen. (I can't promise to get to your questions immediately, but I will read and answer them)

And please, please, please - no matter how fast-moving the thread is, please read the whole thing and don't just post your own thing. You'll miss a lot of valuable stuff that way, and it also presumes that I (and other posters) are happy to keep repeating stuff.

But above all, very good luck everyone!

D: kangaroo steak (yes you read that right), cauliflower and broccoli cheese, and mushrooms
S: Greek yoghurt

Myothercarisalsoshit · 16/05/2016 23:01

Hello low carbers!
Please could I join in? Sorry to have left it so late. Been meaning to sign up all weekend.
Myothercarisalsoshit: 200lb
Thank you

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 16/05/2016 23:04

It's the weirdest feeling. It's bedtime, there's food in the house, but I don't want to eat for no reason...

Fourarmsv2 · 16/05/2016 23:13

Finishing off some left overs today so:

B: strawberries & cream (no more berries now for a fortnight)
L: (at 2.30 after 7.30 breakfast - fine when fat adapted :) ) pork medallions, salad and lashings of mayo
D: exhausted after busy day running Y11 revision so CBA to cook - piece of full fat mature cheddar, salad and mayo

Too much coffee and milk (although breakfast coffee was cream). Not enough water (about 1l).

WanHeda - at F&B I have bits from GF menu, or steak and salad (ask for no dressing).

Iamdobby63 - when my loss slowed last time (lost 5 stone... Have regained 1.5 over the past year) - I added in some 5:2 LC days and some intermittent fasting to shake things up.

My tips to you all:

Buy a beautiful notebook. Record daily food & water (plus weight if you're a daily weigher). It helps you see patterns. I also record TOTM, bowel movements (I can go 4/5 days so lose track and get constipated if I'm not careful).

Reduce mug size to reduce coffee and milk intake

Aldi Lincolnshire sausages - low carb and lovely.

Super high strength Vit C tablet helps me if I do get constipated.

margaritasbythesea · 16/05/2016 23:24

Thanks BIWI and wombattoo

FarelyKnuts · 16/05/2016 23:31

Evening!
Breakfast was on the go today so best of a bad lot was 2 rashers and a sausage
Lunch was chunk of brie, lettuce, 2 cherry tomatoes, hardboiled egg.
Dinner was tacos using baby gem lettuce for the shell and then spicy mince, cheese and sour cream.
4l of water.

Gcalgske · 17/05/2016 00:58

Ok, here goes an epic gcal post catching up with 10 pages. Whoo! First of the BC.

Hello everyone. I've missed you.

I've been on BC since the last BC so will refrain from posting food daily. I'm down to only 2 proper meals a day due to being fat adapted and don't want to confuse anyone.

SociallyAcceptableCookie blend the butter into your coffee, for work buy a cheapy battery powered milk frother (ikea or eBay) makes it lush like a latte!
Lord knows what they thought. Blush to this day!

Double cream is dairy, it has carbs. 2.6g/100ml so be careful, I like lattes etc and if I let myself I could easily get through a 300ml pot a day in coffees which adds up. There is a school of thought that dairy sugar effects insulin production disproportionately to the actually sugar involved but it is a personal tolerance like most things it's best to do what you can to be sensible and if for some reason you aren't losing its the first thing to drop.

Hi guymartinssideburns glad to see you back. How are you?

ciderwithbuddha Flowers for you and DC, migraines and poorly children/ exam stress. What a combo.

doingitformyselfatlast carb flu is largely thought to be mineral/electrolyte deficiency. You suddenly change food and start drinking tonnes of water and dilute all your electrolytes. Maybe try a supplement, more potassium (lo salt is good for that) or a good mineral salt.

strawberryleaf total fage full fat or lidls full fat Greek yoghurt (in a bucket!) are my favourite

flipdoodle not exactly unexpected as I've been low carb off and on ,for years (you think I'd learn, hmmm) but my sense of smell, mental clarity, anxiety, acne, eczema, psoriasis, PCOS, PTSD all improve on low carb high fat. Grin

raisedbyguineapigs avoid packet sauces if you can on BC we are trying to avoid processed foods. There will probably be all kinds of nasties and 15g carbs is quite high. You can make a tasty stirfry with a bit of garlic, ginger, chilli, 5 spice and some tamari and lime juice. I normally make it for me and the carbivores in the house and once ready I take mine out and thicken their sauce with a little slaked cornflour or gravy granules.

pengweng sprouts are grand! Add bacon and Camembert

humphreycobblers whenever I have an epic stall I notice I've let my fat drop and my protein creep up. Might be worth a check? It's easy done.

wanheda frankie & benny they do a 'naked burger' on their gluten free menu (served in lettuce leaves) or the Napoli salad with chicken (mozzarella, olives, tomatoes, chilli, mixed salad leaves, lemon olive oil) ask for dressing on the side with either as they smother in sticky nonsense usually.

boldly / equiem / auntiemaggie PCOS solidarity fist bump! I used to take metformin but it did nowt except make me feel rubbish and have squits (apol, realise we have not yet reached that time in BC when all chat turns bogwards)
My assisted reproduction specialist took me off of it after 5 years and put me on a LC/HF eating plan and I lost weight and conceived.

The thing is that the way he explained it the metformin combats excess insulin but if you eat low carb and get into a state where the body doesn't produce excess insulin you don't need it. Obviously I'm not a Dr just sharing what he said, he was senior prof. Assisted repoduction at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the medical school here where they are quite innovative and forward thinking regards treating things with a dietary cure. Might be worth a conversation with your health care professionals

SayrraT · 17/05/2016 05:45

B: eggs fried in butter, coffee with cream
L: prawns and crayfish tails in lettuce wraps

HammerToFall · 17/05/2016 06:35

Pisseslikeahorse · 17/05/2016 06:39

Pengweng · 17/05/2016 07:11

Yey for sprouts! I really do love them with runny eggs for breakfast. Dh thinks I'm nuts but he hates them altogether. Going to try a sprout coleslaw i think then if i can find some fresh. Grin

Titsalinabumsquash · 17/05/2016 07:13

I have woken up feeling strangely detached from my body, I also have the shakes like a champ, I don't feel good, I assume this is a form of carb flu?

Well done to everyone! The first day is over, I like reading what you've all eaten to give me tips. I think I'm going to roast a whole chicken or 2 today, 1 for the fridge and 1 for dinner.

glenthebattleostrich · 17/05/2016 07:18

Morning all

Food for today:

B - coconut yogurt, chai tea with coconut oil and cream
L - eating out so probably steak salad
T - pork and chorizo casserole
S - pork scratchings, baby bel
W - 3 - 4 litres

Tried running yesterday and cramped in my calf so ended up just walking. Will up salt before I go on Wednesday.

Bought a water filter bottle yesterday and dug out my filter jug so did well on the water front and it's been In the fridge chilling for today. First pint down.

Xoticdreamz · 17/05/2016 07:32

Morning , what brand of coconut yougurts is low carb ? I really fancy some today .

Beammeup11 · 17/05/2016 07:49

Morning All, hope you don't mind me recording weight here as I can't access a computer at the moment.
I am a whopping 14st 7. That number will never grace my scales again Angry

Had a low carb breakfast of eggs, bacon and herbal tea.

HumphreyCobblers · 17/05/2016 07:55

Hello, not on the spreadsheet but weighed in at 10.4 this morning. Have eaten two boiled eggs and butter with one coffee blended with coconut oil. I like this much better than a proper BPC.

Feeling very pre-menstrual so today will possibly be grumpy...

Flisspaps · 17/05/2016 07:57

Morning all!

3 egg omelette with mushrooms, ham and cheese for breakfast. Unsure on lunch as I'm working from home today, probably some sort of greek-ish salad with olives, leaves, feta and a drizzle of olive oil.

Tea will be Spanish casserole (lean turkey breast to use up, chorizo, diced veg cooked in olive oil, 1 tin tomatoes, garlic and paprika) with salad

stilllovingmysleep · 17/05/2016 08:09

Morning all! Feeling quite optimistic today. Had a bit of a headache yesterday at work and took painkillers. Other than that, I have lots of energy and feeling fine (but I've been on a LC WOE for more than 2 months on & off now so I guess this was just a headache, not LC flu.

Breakfast today: black coffee (lots) / 2 boiled eggs / handful of green salad with oil lemon and chunk of cheddar cheese. Not too exciting and after 2 months I'm slightly tired of eggs for breakfast

BIWI · 17/05/2016 08:10

Morning all! A lovely 11 degrees here in Moscow today. Have no idea what the day has in store for me food-wise, but I've realised that I can get back to my hotel for lunch, and will be finished at a sensible time this evening, both which means I'm more likely to be able to choose low carb foods - the menu in the bar looks quite good, so I'm feeling positive about that.

Some lovely sounding menus going on as well!

AuntieMaggie your day sounded fine

GCalske thanks for your post - it's brilliant when others can benefit from your experience

wombat thanks so much for helping with the spreadsheet. It's a real pain that Google docs is so hard to access if you're not on a PC/laptop.

Hopefully everyone is still enthused, after day 1! Just a quick word about:

CARB FLU

Over the next 3 or 4 days, some of you may experience this. Not everyone will, though. You may feel headachey, a bit spaced out, tired - just as if you're going down with something. It's to do with the amount of water we're drinking, as GCalske explained above, but also it's withdrawal from carbs. And if anything, doesn't that confirm how unpleasant they are for us? If they make us feel so bad when we cut right down on eating them? Hmm

Things to do if you're suffering:

- make sure you're getting enough sodium, magnesium and potassium. These are key electrolytes. Salt is especially key - and again it's counter-intuitive, but you need to eat more salt when you're doing Bootcamp. Add it to your food when you're cooking, add it to your food at the table. Consider a hot drink made from Oxo, Bovril or Marmite. Potassium and Magnesium you can get from salmon, avocado, spinach and natural full fat yoghurt. You can also use Lo Salt for Potassium.

- don't suffer! Take some paracetamol. (But avoid ibuprofen as for some reason this is implicated in weight gain or can impede weight loss)

- if it's really, really bad, eat a slice of toast. If the symptoms go away, then you know it's the carbs.

But take heart - it will only last a few days, and when it's gone, you should find that you feel great.

FYI, for anyone who is looking for coconut oil, here's a bargain on Amazon, with free delivery (4.40P for 1L)

www.amazon.co.uk/Pure-100%25-Coconut-Multipurpose-500ml/dp/B013QTHVEO/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463468881&sr=8-1&keywords=coconut+oil+ktc

Or it seems Tesco online has it for 1.50P for 500ml, if that's convenient
www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=256412443&gclid=CjwKEAjwguu5BRDq8uSKhaKIzDkSJACQ7WJlnIzC2KuBJGm5jqTC6aX7fBTe1ro81lju8ME7v8KvihoCyt3w_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I've been using it for a few months and it's high quality (as far as I can tell). You don't need much, either.

BursarsFrogs · 17/05/2016 08:11

Good morning all.

boldly / equiem / auntiemaggie / Gcalgske I have PCOS too, and have been on Metformin for years. I don't really know if it's doing anything, but since I have some other metabolic syndrome symtoms too, a consultant wants to me to stay on it. Luckily no side effects for me. I do have periods and apparently ovulate, but no babies for us sadly so far - but then we have some male factor reasons, too. (We happen to be going to an appointment at a fertility clinic today!)

Unlike many others, I found myself starving yesterday. I suppose it might have been sugar craving type of thing, rather than not having enough food. I added some double cream to my coffees and had a sizeable snack of cheese, avocado, gherkins (2.1g carbs per 100g) and pepperoni.

Today the plan is:
B: feta omelette, cucumber, creamy coffee
L: yesterday's chicken soup
D: pork chops and buttery broccoli and cauliflower

Pengweng · 17/05/2016 08:13

Breakfast today will be mushrooms and salami with 2 scrambled eggs with butter
Lunch - not sure yet but will involve egg mayo somehow as i made loads yesterday
Dinner will be courgetti with meatballs and a tomato, pepper and olive sauce (will only have a tiny bit and DH can eat the rest with his pasta)

No snacks planned but I have plenty of cheese and yoghurt.

WanHeda · 17/05/2016 08:28

Thanks for the info for F&BS - I just had a look at their GF menu and some of the stuff on there seems ok!

gcalske are you from Aberdeen? If so, have you tried the LC restaurant? I want to try it next time I am there.

AuntieMaggie · 17/05/2016 08:32

Gcalgske Thanks re PCOS. When I conceived last time it was a combo of low carb and metformin and my consultant upped my dose just before we started trying. Going to give it a go anyway and see where we are. I think my insulin resistance is fairly well controlled at the moment but happy to try as there isn't much support now I'm trying for my second!

Today's food:
Mushrooms, scrambled egg and spinach
Prawn, Mayo, avocado, lettuce and cucumber
Lasagne using left over bolognese corgette cream and soft cheese

BIWI · 17/05/2016 08:42

Re breakfast

You don't have to eat eggs! In fact, there's no specific food that you have to eat. It's the cereal manufacturers who have got us into a mindset that breakfast has to have its own foods.

If you keep eating the same thing every day, you'll soon get bored, and that will lead to the inevitable cheating.

Mix it up a bit. Have a continental breakfast, so ham and cheese. Or have bacon and mushrooms.

Or - go wild and eat a normal meal Grin

I sometimes have leftovers. If you've made something like celeriac or cauliflower or swede mash, fry those up in a patty, like bubble and squeak.
